Just this and that but;
1. Since when is an increase in R&D a bad thing? All of the articles that I have read (WSJ had one recently) say that those companys that pour money into R&D are the growing/dynamic companys. The rest just rest on their laurels.
The move of the Xscale to Taiwan Semi is crucial/critical. Then you will probably see the layoffs that posters are lookin for.
I expect MRVL to announce (any time) the purchase of an Israeli GPS company. The street won't like it initially, but will be forced to put 2 & 2 together.
Rough road ahead, but will pay off in the end.
All just MHO.
If that's the case, what do you think the "super major design wins" might be? TIA
Lakers, I'm with you and a few others here in remaining long and strong. In fact, I bought more today. Stick around.
you might want to keep some powder dry. It looks like a rough week next week. Then buy like crazy after Labor Day.
cbs, I use this:

Just fill in the company ticker
I agree. And each AH trade was like for 100 sh. I expect an upgrade tomorrow.
(OT) S2, did you pick up some RVBD when it was around $37 last Thursday? I managed to pick some up at $38
Lakers, how shortly? Sometime in August or in September?
Nice post CBS. What appears to be overlooked by most is that good tech stocks (the ones making money) have been holding up rather well. Food for thought
Nice call S2. Looking good for tomorrow.
S2 and anyone else. If you like Riverbed RVBD, keep an eye on Blue Coat BCSI.
Another killer in the making in the same industry.
This new dude Michael Rashkin certainly got a good deal. He (and a trust) got shares and options.

McClellan said on the 17th that there was "trouble ahead" of the 20 week cycle low due in the middle of August. I wonder if the 20 week cycle low got here early?
Remember all of the business's that they bought in the last year? This is a non-event to me. It's just clearing the air of all the crap so that August should be a blowout. JMO
I can't help but believe that the SOX is breaking out. MRVL to follow, then lead. JMHO
Freakin Sweet. McClellan said that there would be a pullback in the market that should be finished by next Tuesday (roughly). MRVL holding it's own. I just want to say that I looked at the MRVL Edgar article when it first came out today. I don't think that I am high but it listed numbers for "period ending Apr 07". They changed it real quick (No, different numbers). Now, what can we make from that?
Interesting Lakers. I would have believed that since the alleged Sam ARM was not ready, that they would have bought MRVL's. What do you think the odds are that iPhone2 contains Monahan? One of these recently posted articles stated that Apple likes to change vendors frequently. TIA
RIM wins permission to sell in China;

How many millions more......
Here is a question to ponder. I believe that Lakers has been saying that iPhone2 here by years end (to contain Xscale). If that's the case, then the 10 million iPhones predicted to be sold next year should be iPhone2s? Correct?
I stand by my post
You thought wrong
It was old news;
http://biz.yahoo.com/e/070424/mrvl8-k.html
Any other old news you want to post here?
Correct me if I'm wrong but Marvell just released all results/restated results except for this last quarter?
If so, let's hope they saved the best for last.
In case you don't understand retail, the OEM takes the hit, not the component manufacturers. I really don't give a damn if Best Buy paid you to take it, MRVL or whoever already got their money.
NOTHING has been confirmed, just speculated again.
Interesting. This may keep the debate alive till someone pries a processor apart and confirms whose die is inside.
I agree that the lawyers article was written to help someone. Hell, it was written in the future (July 2 2007?).
Let's see how the street handles not having all of the pieces of the puzzle.
"Samsung manufactured Apple ARM chip. Numbers: 339S0030ARM, 8900B 0719, NOD4BZ02, K4X1G153PC-XGC3, ECC457Q3 716. The processor is likely stacked on the SDRAM, which looks to be 512 MB. This chip could have H.264 and MP3 hardware decoding built in"
Again like I said NO ONE has opened up the package to prove anything. They all just assume.......
Every teardown of an iPhone that I have seen online has gotten it down to the circuit boards and no farther. They all see a Samsung P/N on the processor and assume that it is a Samsung ARM so no need to go farther. I agree with Lakers. Until I see that someone broke open the MCM and identified the individual die, I believe that the "evidence" that I've seen and heard so far points to a Marvell ARM. JMHO
If that's the case, you removed my last doubt. I figured that Apple was in deep with Intel during the PC processor migration.
Thanks
That's pretty much what I envision.
I believe that Apple bought the bare/raw die from both Samsung (memory) and Marvell (processor), brought them either in house or sent them to a third party who assembled them into the BGA package that you see in the photos. Sectioning the package would reveal each bare die. Each die would then have the the Samsung or Marvell markings on it.
I agree with Lakers. The only hesitation that I have is that the iPhone has been in development for a while (a few years?). Did Apple have that kind of relationship with Intel at that time to have them designed in? That is the only argument that I see for the processor NOT being Marvell's.
Lakers wrote;
"If both chips are from Sam, Sam would package itself, then put its stamp on it."
I agree with Lakers
Are you saying then Lakers that the chip carrier alone is Apple's and contains 2 die, 1 being the Marvell's ARM and the other being Samsung's memory? Could be but I would have expected a larger chip carrier.
Lakers, if you're correct you really know your $hit. Congrats!
Round of virtual champagne for the house.
That numbering looks like a Samsung;
Starts with KA and ends with XGC3
http://www.semiconductor.com/resources/reports_database/view_report.asp?pID=3928
I have to ask Lakers......how do you know that?
Oh, never mind. I just hope that the street will pick up on it.
It appears to be memory
What's that Marvell chip in the middle?
Processor?
OK, I think we're moving now. Just a little more.
These guys screwed it. This is bigger than the last Sopranos and they screwed it up.
