Nope, I live in the illegal infested, bankrupt state....betcha can't guess which one, lol.
Gerald Celente - Someone recently mentioned a subscription to him. For those of us who have kids in high school, what are his views on trends for viable careers in the next ten years? I am really at a loss as to which way to steer my daughter. Seems like the only recession/depression proof career in the future will be a mortician, lol.
Thank you,

Hey Blasher,

We don't know what Palin is up to, but she doesn't strike me as someone who will look back on her life and say "I wish I had...." I have to give her credit for a determined spirit....which is more than most people are possessing these days.
Here is a small example, but by no means compares to Palin's life.
I began playing on a 9 Ball Pool Team a month ago with no prior experience and as the only woman. So obviously I am ranked a 1 and have a steep learning curve ahead of me. Although we have some good players on the team (some rank as high as 7), my team had lost every match last week. There was one match left to play. The other team put up a player with a ranking of 4. None of the other guys on my team would step up and play him because they thought they were going to lose. So they put me up to play him. I thought this was a poor strategy, but I figured I had nothing to lose and I will always take a challenge.
Of course my opponent was mopping the floor with me from the beginning. But I just kept telling myself every ball that I made counts and will make a difference for our overall score. The guy I was playing was very patronizing. I just thought to myself, well this is the crowd that you chose to associate with, so you have to be able to put up with their crap.
Anyway, to everyone's surprise I ended up winning. But even if I would have lost, I would have done more for my team than the other guys were willing to do. My opponent couldn't believe he lost to a ranking 1. I have to say I have lost some respect for the guys on my team that let the fear of losing keep them from stepping up to the plate.
I see Palin as someone willing to step up to the plate even if she loses in the long run and she recognizes the crowd she has chosen to associate herself with.
We the People Stimulus Package
Gleno,
Has anything changed in the last 6 months in the economy to make you think those ships have begun moving? lol
Interesting from a guru:
This is the economic recovery the masses are buying into - what you are seeing is the coast of Singapore - one of the busiest ports in the world. These boats are just sitting there anchored waiting for cargo and have been sitting there for months. Only one boat in this picture has a wake.
You see 80% of the boats in Singapore are just sitting there with no cargo to carry. This is the economic recovery the masses are buying into. Maybe they have more money and more buying power then I give them credit for. Maybe the Fed is going to just print money like mad and put us into an inflationary spiral that will make stocks go up, because the dollar just drops. Or maybe the stock market sinks again in a big way. We'll cross that bridge in the Fall. But this is the economic mess the Fed, the government, and the gullabulls supported because they thought they benefited from it. All they thought they had to do was go into debt or buy stocks and real estate and they would get rich. Now their money is gone, their houses are falling in value, and they have no money to spend - hence no orders for Indonesian factories to turn out.
It is an interesting to see this picture and the sentiment so bullish over the stock market.
Hmmmm? Up signal today.
Gleno - don't look!
Blasher, you have mail.
Here you go 2 bit,
No up signal yet.
Maybe it will be a whipsaw like in November?
Yes John, thanks. Finishing up the school year. I'll get back to you soon.
Smartone-
Will you post a chart please?
$NYSI gave a signal starting tomorrow. We'll see how this plays out. Link back for chart.
Foot or anyone,
Any thoughts on the usefulness of this chart?
Signal is the cross of 20 and 80 on the Full Sto.
Blasher, Looking forward to the email.
S2 - What are your thoughts on this strategy: Buy equal shares of FAS/FAZ, sell OTM Calls on both each month. In time the shares will be free.
What are the negatives to doing this?
Thanks
Ron Paul thinks people should work and save.
Gee, what a great idea, lol.
euterpe,
I agree with you completely. I don't know the reason why the teacher can't retain a student. It is probably from the irrational fear of "You just don't like my kid." Sometimes we bluff and tell the parent, "We'll have to retain Bobby if his reading doesn't improve," in hopes of shocking the parents to get involved. But ultimately we have no power. It is totally the decision of the parents.
I'm glad you brought up the subject. I didn't take it as you were blaming teachers. I just thought I would chime in because very few people really know what schools/teaching is like these days. We all remember back to our school days and assume it must be the same, and wonder ...so how can so many schools be testing so poorly?
Well Toto, we're not in Kansas (America) anymore!

I teach at an "underperforming" school. I can only speak from my experience, which is by no means true for all schools or all teachers. If my school were to close and then reopen, I have no doubt that close to 100% of the teachers whom I work with would be rehired. Those on my grade level have always gotten excellent reviews from administration and have taken criticism well to improve our teaching. Once we were rehired, the school would continue to underperform.
I can only do so much. I teach second grade. Most of my students did not come in reading on grade level. Most come in reading at a beginning first grade or even kindergarten level. So why did the teacher pass them on you ask? One of two reasons:1) The teacher tried to persuade the parents to hold them back to get the foundation needed and the parents refused or 2) The teacher knew it wouldn't make a difference because without a parent in the home to help with reading or math, nothing changes except the child is a year older.
Most of the children entering Kindergarten at my school do not know what a color is, what a number looks like, what a letter is or even how to hold a book to look at a picture, and have rarely heard English. Our staff screens our incoming Kindergarteners each Spring to see what they know. We hand them a book and they look through it upside down because no one has ever read to them or shown them a book.
We are not miracle workers. I have a great track record and have some of the highest scores each year because I work my butt off and have high standards. I have parents complaining all the time to my Principal that I expect too much of their child, when in reality I am just teaching the standards that the state requires. I believe in rewards and consequences which is foreign concept to the parents I deal with. My parents just want their kids to have fun and make sure they get each recess, lol. Why should they have to learn to read and write?? They are just going to get on government assistance when they grow up anyway, right?
Some of the parents of my students this year are: living in hotels, illegal aliens, drug dealers, grandparents raising grandchildren because the parents are off doing drugs, and the others are hard working people with jobs or recently lost jobs.
Each year I try to retain about 25% of my class and maybe 1 in 5 parents will agree. The remaining 4 are passed on to the third grade and they absolutely drown for the rest of their education.
Teachers are a very easy target because it leaves parents off the hook, which is what the politicians want. Who is going to vote you in if your telling your constituents to take responsibility for their children's learning?

Foot,
I agree with you. I teach in a public elementary school in California. I am finding parents are very open to prayer, especially when they come in for conferences and tell me that they have lost their job/home. It just takes a little courage on my part to ask if they would like me to pray for them. I figure all they can tell me is "no thanks". I conference with a few parents throughout the year, depending on what is going on with their child. But school wide conferences are every Oct/Nov. I am expecting that most of the parents I speak with at that time will be wanting prayer.

My friend Blasher has many more predicting skills than I. But if you wait for the pink/white lines on this chart to widen and then trade in that direction,, you can't get hurt too bad.
I had a buy signal EOD, but decided to wait until the open tomorrow to see what it does.

Are Neely and McHugh in agreement?
The last I heard McHugh thought the S&P was in wave 4 up.

I understand 13/50 and Simon. Will you explain WAVE(zig-zag) to me or refer a link, so I can read about it?
Thanks! I always enjoy your posts.
Foot,
I'm glad you found value in this chart. Unfortunately, I don't have time to trade it.
I sent you an email through your Stockcharts page earlier this weekend with a question. Please email me back, even if the answer is no, lol.
Thanks.
