We should be seeing another certified mold maker this year, as well as at least one more MSR...Paul said this at the ASHM.
The new mold for their "specialty item" should be in house already or in the mail before Christmas (Q4 receipt). I assume they will be certifying this part for low volume production in early 2015. i.e. A customer purchased the mold (Tom said this in his last conference call). A quick call to Tom or Tony should confirm this.
Tom described the "Specialty item" in the field of "sporting goods, firearms, knives or hunting".
If a customer has ponied up the money for the mold on the in-house machine, and it produces the intended part, I'd expect a contract (albeit small) by Q3-4 next year (or sooner depending upon mold test runs).
Liquidmetal Technologies, Inc. (OTCBB:LQMT)'s Descent Accelerates

Got that right....
Liquidmetal and Metal Injection Moulding: Two complementary metal forming technologies Metal Injection Moulding (MIM) is just one of a number of innovative technologies now available for the production of complex metal components. Whilst MIM itself is considered to be a disruptive technology to processes such as machining and investment casting, Liquidmetal is also expected to compete with these conventional technologies as well as with MIM. Paul Hauck recently joined Liquidmetal Technologies following a career of more than 27 years in MIM. In this article he introduces Liquidmetal technology and highlights both the differences and similarities in the two processes. - See more at: http://www.pim-international.com/magazine#sthash.EC3qUk78.dpuf
Anyone at Micro conference? Feedback? SOS?
I guess I missed the Drew Hauck reference?
“We are excited about the new developments we saw” – John Haines of Librizzi Associates - LQMT via Twitter
Please elaborate...
I'm interested to know how "bound" are they in these NDAs. I guess it's understandable, with such a new technology, the company in their respective industry wants to be the first to deploy it in their application, especially if there's a cost savings over their competitor.
If I was a company doing something or using something nobody has used before, I want to shine once it's announced. Unfortunate for the shareholder who has to remain in the dark and invest based upon carefully selected statements.
28 different customers came to the open house. Some may be taking a look but it would be surprising to see the sign-in roster of what companies participated. Aerospace/defense, automotive, medical, "specialty"....
Steipp doesn't want to make any false promises. I think he truly sees 4 new contracts next year...but nobody has signed on the dotted line. Remember, a TON, if not all (until recently), prototypes were made at Visser, whom probably doesn't have the most recent Engel machine (or never had an Engel machine to begin with).
Now they have to essentially either re-certify those parts on the new machine or continue to use Visser (which they stated they probably will). They may not gain substantial revenue but they show the viability of producing and the adoption of liquidmetal parts.
They'll be getting another mold maker certified this year, have a solid MSR sales force, and people are requesting molds to be made on the Engel machine. This is great news and another step forward.
Let's not forget, Paul is working in the background. He distances himself from all the BS tap dancing, NDAs, should/coulda/woulda's, and financial BS.
He's determined, has a plan, and is standing up to the challenge.

Why are they assigning patents to CIP?
How do you know it will happen Tuesday?
Also...
1. How do you search for final awarded patents?
2. How do you search for patents pending final?
Looks like it was already published on 11/29/2012?
Well they "like" them....
Anyone know any connection between Liquidmetal and Flextronics?

They finally disclosed the amount! I actually emailed NASA and got this before the ASHM....
This was awarded at the end of May '14.
The Phase II solicitations open next week and are only open to Phase I applicants. Phase II max award is $750k. I asked Steipp about this at the ASHM and he said he's not focused on R&D, he's focused on selling parts made by their Engel machine.
Good point. Tom - 1, Me - 0.
For some reason I can't post anything...looks like others are able to.
Misery loves company?? lol
Good to hear Mold Craft was also present....only thing missing is a CLM.
I wonder if they're really pushing low volume high margin products first?
Anyone recognize anyone in the pictures?
Concur.
Good find! I tried to look but didn't come across anything helpful.
Wonder if there are any other Crucible patents with these as assignors???
You're right...looks like Mr. Beals now works for Magna International.
www.magna.com/
Magna International Inc. is a global automotive supplier headquartered in Aurora, Ontario, Canada. In 2012 it was the largest automobile parts manufacturer in North America by sales of original equipment parts, and one of Canada's largest companies.
Keeps getting better....
Wonder if this is one of the Tier 1's Hauck talked about at the ASHM?
Another piece I find interesting is the "assignors" BEALS, RANDY S. and RYCZEK, LAWRENCE H. has an "assignee" of:
DAIMLERCHRYSLER CORPORATION
800 CHRYSLER DRIVE
CIMS 483-02-19
AUBURN HILLS, MICHIGAN 48326
and
SWALES AEROSPACE
5050 POWDER MILL ROAD
BELTSVILLE, MARYLAND 20705
=)
Not entirely following but I'm getting there.
Are you saying their assets should be dramatically higher now? i.e. millions not hundreds of thousands?
Paul Hauck said that's Materion's present max capacity per year.
Well let's start a list...
1. What percentage of the Beryllium and Composites (BC) sales is liquidmetal?
2. Is liquidmetal a percentage of the large growth in medical?
3. Is 2015 the year where we will start to see the upward trend of the curve.
4. Over the next year, how much will liquidmetal impact your BC sales?
5. How many customers (and what categories) have you shipped liquidmetal?
6. It's been said you can support up to 200,000 lbs of liquidmetal per year, how much of this total have you shipped in 2014? What's your estimate for 2015 (kind of same question as above but a little more quantifiable)
OOO, let's setup a conference call with them and get some facts.
Did anyone dial into this mornings Q3 conference call??
I was going to but forgot I had another conference call that conflicted. I would have definitely pressed this.
Did anyone?
Concur.
I know Watts asked if there were more Engel machines and Steipp danced around it but eventually said there are others but could not say how many.
Actually, they were made by Liquidmetal and Visser. Ref. the article in the July issue of the Advanced Engineering Materials.
"New Methods for Developing and Manufacturing Compliant Mechanisms Utilizing Bulk Metallic Glass"
By Eric R. Homer, Matthew B. Harris, Shannon A. Zirbel, Joanna A. Kolodziejska,Henry Kozachkov, Brian P. Trease, John-Paul C. Borgonia, Gregory S. Agnes, Larry L. Howelland Douglas C. Hofmann
Early commercial-grade BMGs fabricated through die-casting were well-known for having carbide inclusions from the graphite casting crucible, excessive oxygen content from poor vacuums, unknown compositions (due to the use of pre-curser materials with unknown concentrations of impurities), low fracture toughness and low fatigue limits.[24] Supplementary Figures 3–5 show an early casting mold and various low-grade components that failed. In the current work, a new injection casting technology is implemented to fabricate the bistable CM shown in Figure 2.[24, 25]

25. Visser Precision Cast®, Denver, CO, USA
Wonder if NASA/JPL has a Engel machine?
I'm pretty sure they were made with Liquidmetal.
Haha!
I think it was more of a tax benefit for the person receiving the stock. i.e. when they sell it they would be at a lower tax penalty due to the stock type.
It wasn't in financial layman's terms. so I'm not really sure exactly why the 30M shares offered now would give someone a better tax benefit once they sold the stock.
Maybe someone with a finance background can explain.
Chung told me he knows they have other shares to use but this new dilution would give them better tax breaks.
How many people were from the, "scientific and engineering community" at the ASHM?
Me and my gf are both electrical engineers so that's at least 2.
Sure it's lacking on the "cool" factor but I saw it as one of those things you hand out at trade shows. But I agree, it doesn't have much of a purpose like a coozie or thumb drive.
Looks like we're making it onto Twitter.
https://twitter.com/search?f=realtime&q=%24LQMT&src=ctag
Haha!!!! Maybe ;)
Well I saw it being made....similar to the video I posted yesterday.
