correction:...after eBay's notification did their 8K...
I know that Neom did the 8K. Just wondering what whether they knew what was coming internally.
"Witholding".....hmmm...the suit was made known on Feb 18, 3 days after eBay did their 8K on February 15th. Perhaps something substantial they knew was coming and filed a contract dispute/lawsuit? Just throwing something out there....might be nothing.
Video and article on QR and Neoreader.

Sad to hear of Dale's passing. Prayers to his families.
I still have that shirt, too.
eBay - Redlaser @ CES
Neomedia Technologies has granted a five year, non-exclusive, non-sublicensable license to eBay, which gives the online auction firm and retailer worldwide rights to use a number of NeoMedia patents relating to the firm’s barcode technologies, in return for a licence fee for the initial term. Details of the agreement are contained in a 21 December 8-K filing with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission.
The agreement also grants eBay a 60-day option of a similar licence to a number of patents relating to NeoMedia’s search technology. Should eBay exercise its option, NeoMedia will receive an additional licence fee from eBay for the initial term. eBay has the option to extend both licences for an additional three years.
Earlier this year, eBay acquired RedLaser, a barcode-scanning, price-comparison app for the iPhone. The technology was incorporated in the latest update of eBay’s own mobile app last month. It can already scan QR Codes, so it will be interesting to see what eBay’s plans are for the NeoMedia’s technology. Whatever they are, it looks like a good day at the office for NeoMedia.

Ha ha ha! "You can't be a 'little pregnant'"
Exactly.
I agree, JP. Pretty obvious, too. eom
The handset offers all the usual music features plus TrackID music recognition app, a NeoReader barcode scanner, 3D games, video streaming, DNLA and a whole host of Google services. It weighs in at 117 grams, with phone memory of 512MB and 1GHz Qualcomm processor.
Sony Ericsson's newest handset will be available globally starting in Japan in Q1 in 2 flavours of midnight blue and misty silver.
Sony Ericsson's president, Bert Nordberg, said: "We're starting strong in 2011 by introducing our most exciting Xperia product yet. Xperia arc combines state-of-the-art Sony technology with breathtaking design to entertain and wow consumers. All on the latest Android release."
The new Xperia Arc and remember all new Sony-Ericsson phones will come pre-installed with a Neoreader barcode scanner.
I like this quote:
In an October report on smartphone shipments during the third quarter of 2010, Strategy Analytics analyst Neil Mawston grouped Sony Ericsson with Motorola and LG Electronics and described them as having missed “much of the boom in premium 3G smartphones.” Going forward, however, Mawston warned that the top players will need to watch their backs, as Sony Ericsson and the like are finding their strides.
Crammed into its thin shell is a 4.2-inch multi-touch screen with ‘Reality Display’ and mobile BRAVIA Engine.
Plus, a Sony Exmor R for enhanced low-light photography and video capture, an 8.1 megapixel camera, HD video recording and of course the good old Android market.
There’s also a few snazzy treats chucked into the mix as well such as a NeoReader barcode scanner, 3D games, Wi-Fi, turn-by-turn navigation, the list goes on and on. (check out the source link for full specs.)

don't know if this was already posted before...good read on what's to come for 2011
http://www.ebayinc.com/mobilecommerce
eBay published a mobile commerce infographic to analyze mobile sales across its top six mobile markets for the year (through December 21, 2010). eBay has said it expects to generate over $1.5 billion in mobile GMV this year, and made several acquisitions in the mobile commerce space including the RedLaser barcode-scanning app and Critical Path Software.

Hmmm....interesting, indeed. eom
I had not noticed this but on neom's website they trademarked (TM) the phrase "Click. Connect. Discover."
http://www.neom.com/
Yep, a distinct possibility. Could be. Maybe. Who knows?
Well, I see it as a possibility of them fishing for possible answers/angles to address (to go against) certain Neomedia patent claims. Hence, the continual bobbing and weaving looking for any "loopholes" (so to speak) to somehow null those patents one way or another. So, coming here could be one way of doing such a thing challenging posters after posters.
Tis the season for mobile barcodes

In case a name and phone number on Fido's dog tag aren't enough to bring him home from his wanderings, a new tag from online pet community PetHub includes a Fido-centric URL that is scannable by smartphone.
One side of the laser-etched tag displays a human-readable Web link to information on your pet. The other shows a two-dimensional QR bar code that can be scanned by any iPhone or Android phone with the free code-scanning software NeoReader installed.
When scanned, the code automatically navigates a browser to PetHub to display an animal's information.
Privacy Issues With Direct QR Codes?

The city has also put a scannable "QR" code on its garbage trucks, allowing citizens with Iphones or Androids to point it at the sticker, which fires up a website and plays a video explaining where the garbage is headed.
Todd Asher, first deputy commissioner of the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment, said that scaling these projects to meet real demand from New Yorkers—and teaching them how to use these systems themselves—is the major challenge for the city in developing these sorts of programs.
In July, the city plastered posters at bus stops demonstrating how commuters could use their handheld devices to scan a QR code, those crazy-looking new barcodes, to watch a video about recycling while waiting for the bus. They've only had about 2,000 takers so far. Still, Asher said, the city plans to expand these programs, thinking that if they keep building, people will start coming.
“There has been an impatience, there’s a really strong desire for more,” Asher said. “Now that we’ve been given kind of a taste, there’s a demand to get a lot as possible as quickly as possible.”
Companies connecting with customers through phone-friendly codes Marketers scatter phone-friendly codes across ads
As awareness spreads, businesses and marketers are racing to figure out how to use the codes to attract shoppers.
"We're getting all the right things happening in the market right now," said Mike Wehrs, president of Scanbuy, a leader in QR code development and management. "It's growing very rapidly. … It's not something where you'd say people don't know what's going on. But it's not 100 percent out there yet either."
Scanbuy's data show that QR code generation and usage has risen 700 percent since January, with the number of scans in the U.S. increasing to 35,000 to 40,000 a day from 1,000 to 1,500.
The New York International Automobile Show (April 22 to May 1) and Scanbuy, Inc., the global leader in mobile bar code solutions, have teamed up to make buying tickets to the 2011 Show even easier. The 2-D bar codes, or QR Codes, will appear in NYIAS printed collateral, advertising and marketing materials from billboards and commuter transit to magazine and online advertisements. By scanning the code with their camera phone, people are instantly re-directed to where they can purchase tickets or receive valuable interactive information about the Show.
"Developing digitally interactive ways to communicate with the public about the excitement of the Show is really important and with ScanLife's impressive bar code technology we are taking this commitment to the next level," said show director Candida Romanelli.
"We will incorporate the codes into our Show program to give consumers the ability to receive limitless additional information in the palm of their hands about the vehicles featured in the full-color 144-page publication," she continued.
"We are thrilled to see the New York Auto Show embrace the latest in mobile technology to give visitors the latest from the world of automobiles. ScanLife gives people immediate access to content right from their phone, and this should really elevate the entire Auto Show experience." said Mike Wehrs, president of Scanbuy, Inc.
With the rapid growth in mobile bar code scanning in recent months, consumers are quickly adopting this innovative technology. Last year, NYIAS was the first auto show to offer an app, this year the Show is one of the first to fully embrace 2D bar codes.

Let's say that licensing continues on that trajectory on that same percentage gain exactly one year from now using the last 9 months percentage gain of 5519% would turn out to be $49,615,000. Obviously the licensing has picked up considerably this year. Who knows.
Like you said, keep it coming.
Neustar: On October 2, 2009, we entered into a four year agreement with Neustar, Inc. (“Neustar”) in which we granted to Neustar a right to sub-license our barcode ecosystem patent portfolio to their customers primarily for the purpose of establishing and providing registry and clearinghouse services within a defined field of use in the territory of the United States and Mexico. Neustar’s sub-license rights were originally exclusive within their territory. However, this right has recently changed to a non-exclusive right. On February 12, 2010 we entered into an agreement with Neustar to participate in and to facilitate a leadership role in the 2010 Neustar Mobile Codes Pilot Program.

"QR code" - Google search results show upward trend.
Search trend is for the United States.

And Ms. Patrick is pointing directly at the QR code, too. That race car in the picture certainly is not moving.
