danny, I concur....I will be very surprised if we don't end the day having taken a bit of a hit...Long term however I feel much better than I ever have about this investment. Is this still a very tradeable stock, yes, in my opinion, but LG made this a longtime keeper in my opinion...at this point its not worth a couple bucks a share to me to be out of it...
ed....thanks for your input and expertise on this...No one need cheerleaders or bashers (except themselves)as much as we need good thorough dissecting of info....thanks for the post
to add to tarheels post, for anyone who didn't see it....
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/10900819/
my3sons...me too, 10 out of 11.....I can't believe we aren't hearing all about it from ams today....
ams13, time to get happy we are up a penny at the moment....lol that tells you how little any of that means, even keel dude, you'll be much happier in general
"Could it be that i am happy and content when the share price is up and not so happy when it is down"
Oh my gosh!!!!! the sky is falling down less than 1%....eom
ams you crack me up, where were you the last three days when IDCC was up...now multiple posts with the exact same thing....you must want more shares today eh? You know if you would just admit that you do a lot of trading in the $2 range people might leave you alone.......
OT: great game....one of the most entertaining I have seen. I didn't have a dog in the fight but was cheering for the underdog. This was only the third Texas game I had seen and by far the best performance of the three by Vince Young. Last night he was the best college football player. I have question marks as to how good of pro he will be, however a very good and entertaining college player
laranger...I completely concur and think that line of thought is accurate. If we read the releases this a.m. Nokia is setting a completely different tone in my opinion, they are actually "sounding" more like a partner than an adversary. It will be interesting to see what plays out over the next few weeks although I am sure Interdigital wisely will not let their guard down. I still say a little "break" in the 250 figure is well worth a nice 3G package to move us forward with Nokia and several other players. One thing I am certain about is that many more folks are paying attention today than a week ago and to IDCC's and our stocks benefit.
do you ever wonder......whats its like to be a person that DOESN'T always NEED to be right? I bet you can't imagine what its like to be a happy person as opposed to finding comfort in someone elses dissappointment or distress. Try and turn over a new leaf in 2006, you might be surprised how much better you feel if you don't work so hard trying to "dig" at other people.....Happy Holidays
Our luck...
The judge will be taking a "break" and fall off the toilet, crack his head and be delayed by a year. Heck Jorma would probably push him! I am very doubtful we find out anything meaningful today, just my pessimistic opinion at this point....nonetheless, hoping for the very best! Good Luck to all of us longs.
lotoworld....in my opinion the reason the share price doesn't reflect it is because not everyone (mainly inst. and analysts) aren't thoroughly convinced we will get it ALL and they aren't sure of the timeframe....those uncertainties are costing us in share price...IMO
What I suspected has correctly been pointed out...there was a split so never mind....thanks jeff
this probably isn't apples and oranges either as maybe QCOM has split but if you look at where QCOM was selling 3 years ago today 45.44 vs today 38.39, and IDCC 3 years ago today 15.61 vs today 19.03....which would have been the better investment without trading in and out....again maybe there were splits that throw this all out the window....
He was on "Bull vs Bear" segment, neither gentleman mentioned or even had the opportunity to mention any individual stocks......
Thanks Mschere, so as it stands RIGHT NOW, 45 Million. Thanks again, we certainly need #1 and #2 to be put to bed to our satisfacation
3.NEC, Sharp,HTC, Toshiba, Sanyo,Sierra,Option etc should earn some $30 Million above their 2005 3G recurring revenue payments to IDCC.
Lucent and Kyocera are fixed (for the moment) at some $15 Million due for 2006.
mschere...based on our present licensees of 3G, how much revenue do you calculate IDCC will earn from 3G in 2006. Thanks
Any fair & equitable price for IDCC would have to value its earning power from the royalty stream generated from 100% of 3G handsets sold in the next three or four years, as well as other Financial factors
Regarding buyout, IMO this is an investment forum where our investment in IDCC is discussed. There are long long time holders here along with newbys, there are short sellers and pumpers/dumpers, and folks who wouldn't sell a share all the way down to a dollar. To me thats fine, as long as everyone respects each other and discusses in a levelheaded manner even a buyout should be viewed as a viable topic. We don't control the powers to be in KOP nor do we dictate the share price or it would be at $100 by now. When people get upset and stomp away because a buyout is being DISCUSSED to me its like burying your head in the sand and not considering possibilities. Some here have more time to wait and others just aren't willing to wait additional "?????" months or years to get what THEY feel is a proper return on their investment. The patented BS statement of "just sell and move on" is so short sighted. This is a discussion and an opinion, no one slams the guys that advocate hanging tight for awhile or even indefinitely. Why can't the same courtesy and openmindedness be extended to the forum in regards to a buyout, merger or even IDCC buying another company. We debate IPR, court rulings, timing, personnel, competitors, new technology, exit strategies should we go to $100 tomorrow........all of which have to do with our investment in Interdigital. People need to chill and not immediately get their dander up because they don't agree with even having a discussion on a certain topic........Just my opinion....by the way thanks Jim and David for the Heartland Closing bell tip,was Nasgovitz on?
Nessco...I am in agreement. Its been a long road and even though many may say we are almost there I have heard the same thing and deduced the same on my own for about the last 3 years. ERICY hasn't been the watershed, NOK will keep holding things up, Lucent wasn't the turning point that I had hoped. I certainly think we have the IPR that can make money I just think that everyone has figured out to just NOT PAY, litigate if we need to, string it out for years, and then even after an award, (NOKIA) keep stretching it out. I just don't think we have the clout or right dealmakers to maximize the IPR that we have. I would take $35 and move on, by my own accord I have wasted too many years (about 8) waiting, you only go around once and I can't wait forever. Patience may be a virtue, but life is short..............
Jimlur...did you have the same nasty feeling in your gut as I did when you heard Merrit make this statement:
"We have their commitment to begin to negotiate the rest of the issues that exist between the companies. I thought that was a good result of the litigations".
Commitment? Who honors them anymore? ERICY, Nokia? Lucent? Someone posted it wouldl be a year before we saw any further developments with Lucent on these lines...history says he is probably right...
hang tight ams13, you will get your shares just keep pushing a negative tone to everything you possilby can...
2112 keep it coming, we need to be open minded enough to look at all possibilities....IMO
dd, I would chill, if the market has any discipline there will be NO craziness until we get some official word, so far there is NONE. All of us have established some pessimism for years of waiting and dissapointment but it might be easier on you if we wait until we truly KNOW something instead of completely speculating
Thanks to all for the good work and sleuthing over the last few weeks. I hope that all prosper from this development but remember no matter what, there is going to be the usual crowd of complainers that "XXXXX" wasn't good enough and its managements fault", try to ignore them, it is what it is, whatever it is.............
there you have it folks, NO SETTLEMENT, JAG is not right when it comes to IDCC....pump and dump....happy being a longterm holdder these days, it certainly is taking much longer than I had planned but I like what the new guys are doing with this company....
mschere.....I would guess you are including jimlur and myself in that as we both questioned the article, as did several others. I hope it is a tip of what is about to come but you shouldn't be so negative on those that wonder where this statement is coming from. If you know enlighten us, I never claimed to be any sharper than a marble but what are they referring to here: My bold
"Nokia recently gave in to InterDigital. And we learned Samsung also signed a deal with it. How can second-string companies like us confront a corporation, which even bigger players cannot challenge?" the official said.
Samsung declined to confirm that it had made a patent-licensing contract with InterDigital.
odd article....what do you take from the following text...I am assuming event though the article is dated today he is talking about some time ago? I guess the more I read it I assume the author is speaking sometime in the past.
``Nokia recently gave in to InterDigital. And we learned Samsung also signed a deal with it. How can second-string companies like us confront a corporation, which even bigger players cannot challenge?’’ Song asked.
ams13, so you think this is all about Harry's sale? HAve you looked at the rest of the markets the last 2 days? The Nasdaq and Dow have been down with the decliners outweighing gainers 2 to 1 on both the NAS and Dow a this very moment. If it makes you feel better to complain go ahead but the market is playing a huge part of this downturn in my opinion.....see below
http://finance.yahoo.com/q/bc?t=5d&s=%5EIXIC&l=on&z=m&q=l&c=idcc
FWIW, and it isn't much, of the 8 individual stocks that I own (even a couple of 30% YTD gainers)all are down today between 1/2 percent and 3 percent, looks more like a market condition than an individual stock...
revlis....I think this news release is just another nice change that we see from the mgmt now in charge. They have made an attempt to explain that he may be selling a few shares and that he actually has more shares than suggested for a person in his position. I just think instead of sneaking around and then out of the blue we see a bunch of sales, mgmt is upfront and says that he may be selling but it has nothing to do with the state of the company....any of the shorties need only look at the recent licenses, new coverage and such to see that things are PROGRESSING nicely
Ellix...I disagree...the folks that can move this stock , institutional investors, are aware of whats going on. Regardless of the numbers the investment community is close knit and word travels in a hurry. I think too much is being made of not having a press release, believe me, it doesn't take a mole to sniff out this latest deal.........IMO....those in the know are calmly and smartly buying and wilo contniue to accumulate
sjratty...I maintain that in regards to Nokia "Award" all it took was for Nokia to contest the award and it immediately put doubt in the streets mind that we would get paid, fully or partially...A willing participant signing a deal, Kyocera, hopefully will send a different signal
any speculation as to what this is all about? EOM
Agree, if I had a buck on the share price for every post that said "IMO Will require a license from IDCC" I would be very happy (this isn't a slam on mschere just a statement of a lot of expected licenses from this board). The clock is a ticking on 3rd qtr, Merritt best produce those licensees or the proverbial "_hit will hit the fan" with investors, institutional and individual alike. IMO.
FWIW, I must still beleive as I bought back shares today that I parted with a month or so ago. AS the poker players say "I am all in now", bring on some GOOD licenses....
captain..I must be missing it, in that pie chart of "essential" it shows IDCC has 11 out of 663....did I miss something
revlis...you are correct however,do you think Merritt would have let such a bold statement out in the open from his first mate? I guarantee you that was discussed before the cc ever started....no way that gets tossed out there without prior approval..JMO
linedrive.....I can vouch for you as you have been around about the same time as I have and I remember people asking you if you were delivering any pizzas to QCOM...I think you feel the same frustration and pessimism that many here have developed. The longs have held pretty strong thru all the years of saying and thinking "this will be our defining year, after this result we will have our proof, next year at this time we will be rolling along, this will validate our IPR" the latest of which was the Nokia arbitration. Everyone including me thought that would be the defining moment, yet we are still waiting and who knows how long it may drag out. I thought our defiining moment was going to be that watershed event of ERICY...see how that panned out. I am not being negative I just think some people forget that long term holders have really been tested and sometimes its natural to question the investment. This doesn't make anyone SHORT or anti IDCC its just reality at this point. Its good to see nieves post all the positive news of our competitors and "so-called" licensee's (read Nokia) everyday but after awhile I get a little frustrated not seeing any positive announcements from K of P. You have to think that MErritt was 99.99% sure of new licensees or upgrades in 3Q or he wouldn't have made the comment....if he misses that again (I think it was 4Q2004 when that happened)we will have problems. The street has to regain trust that IDCC can get it done, burned too many times and they will move on....
OT: but industry related...this person noticed the difference in cell service when they traveled to Europe...anybody echo this experience?
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8753895
DR....my only thoughts were in regards to 1 & 2. Even with Nokias stature would they necessarily have to be the rate setter on 3G? I don't know exactly how the MFL works but i would start to get concerned that NOK may be costing themselves a ton of money now amd going forward and that at this point I might be controlling my (Samsung) own destiny...
1. Pre-paid discount? (maybe for 2G? no 3G contract outside of BCDMA)
2. Lower rate (not likely since Nokia has set the MFL and volume bar for 2G). They'll set the 3G rate too
mschere...what do you think the possiblities are that Sammy might just decide to try and work things out ahead of further actions between Nok and IDCC? Based on what they are seeing going on might they take the opportunity to work the best deal that they can instead of "getting stuck" with what may end up on Nokias plate? On the surface it would at least occur to me to consider trying to put my business to bed now that things don't look real promising in Nokias world.
I image that Samsung is also perplexed as to their legal status..
