any good questions---?
Finish treats? Frozen fish soup from Finland---our legal firms should provide caviar for the ASM as much as we spend with them---?
Freebies at the ASM? do they giveaway signed autographed copies of our patents at the ASM or some shirts/hats/pins? food? anyone going--show the spoils---
well well, good I think our royalties are retroactive and we get royalties off even all the unsold and the ones they are crushing...MOT used to use a steam roller to crush its phones--maybe Nokia has one---or one of the massive blenders----
Will they Blend
thanks that makes sense---BM said on some of the talks that we have about 5 loaded Barrels on these cats--we might miss one or 2 but some will stick---that's what I heard
what does this indicate to you?
Shouldn't we feel good that Samsung is on our "side"?
Follow the money, who pays this guy? He's a paid blogger by someone...200 phd engineers is not a troll...this guy is a joke....
Texas A&M is a Troll they brought suit against 100's of farmers for infringing on a wheat they invented, that would throw all Universities into Trolls
wouldn't the ball be in IDCC court to say , "Ok boys/girls, now here's the license you said you had but didn't have, all we need is your signatures on it and then we have something to ENFORCE--and pay for what you have shipped since our last license and going forward you will pay x rate....if not then I guess we will have to go back to court"
Just the "cat-a-lyst" we need...
what happened? Barclays must have upgraded us to $32, and "might Buy"
I like your post of a major Catalyst---yes new deal, settlement please, money with some patents, demo some new things---IDCC should have demo's of products going on all the time on their website---I think---something new--Donald Draper would say as he took another drink and smoke
if you were Nokia or Pnokia and MSFT would you really want to risk a ban of your phone in the coming months? MSFT has invested over $1bil with Nokia, I would hope they are speaking---
Is anyone going to the Shareholders Meeting?
Nice up day today, the Stephens conference was good along with our SEP being held up, or at least the FRAND issue is put to bed for a while---
I wonder how big the economic impact on legal firms this relates to in Dollars? My guess if you had a cease fire of lawsuits, more lawyers would be looking for work, this more unemployment---
market squashed our rally today, would have been up 1.50 or more---
Endless delays, diversions, took 2 yrs to litigate this Apple/Samsung, and now the technology is too old to matter---Tim Cook complained about this the other day at All things Digital----
Remand of Nokia any day? is that correct, we are due the remand for Pnokia anyday?
Companies set up "troll" Like entities inside companies, what is a bank of IP attorneys in say Johnson N Johnson? they troll---someone please buy our IP to enhance your Trolling?
Samsung/Google others have amassed huge IP to collect tolls like trolls----
I know its been done , calculated the $800mil on the share price, is it 3X or 4x...
I contend there's not a better place to be--as William Merritt said today " the biggest single market in the world"
Good thought, remind him, he should update his mind
well I guess they told us today, the uphold SEP, and the Frand defense is not enough
Apple/Pegatron deal by default , IDCC will receive royalties per unit from Pegatron---Good news
(DJ Mozilla Plans Smartphones for Emerging Markets), Interesting that IDCC just hired a guy from Mozilla....Something brewing?
there legal bills should be about that as well, if they expect companies to honor their IPR, they should start honoring others IPR---since they area likely to become an NPE
Delay: News for 'AAPL' - (*DJ U.S. ITC Delays Decision in Samsung v. Apple to Tuesday)
Sure, Motorola announced a phone they will build in an old Nokia plant in Ft Worth...this appears as PR, build it in USA----the last time anyone did this it ended up with large unsold phones that had to be crushed and disposed of by pavement rollers, Google hasn't had its "Lisa" day yet, but I think that day is coming----Motorola has like a 3% world wide share--so the $$$ are very small as far as IDCC goes--the Motorola guy said that 70% will be assembled in USA, does this mean they insert the batteries , box it? mostly all modular assembly--
why doesn't IDCC have a lawsuit against Motorola today?
My guess is Nokia will settle but it will be with some patent transfers, some cash and a future licensing---for the life of me I can't understand how a company like Nokia who is a huge proponent of IPR is the most aggressive at skirting the rules and evasion of payments by all methods--
its this ALJ Shaw? how as he ruled in the past on 337's?
isn't that what we all battle over, royalties and agreements?
I agree Nokia had so much pride they ended up on a "burning platform"
going alone in chips and OS--big mistake---
We do know that Nokia filed suit on Apple after this, correct? and we know that Apple settled---and Qcom makes iphone chips? "Besides getting licenses to Qualcomm patents, Nokia said it will assign ownership of a number of its patents to Qualcomm."
"Qualcomm and Nokia have been squabbling in court since the 2001 patent-licensing agreement between them expired in April 2007, causing Nokia to stop making royalty payments to Qualcomm. WSJ"
They, NOKIA was not the "willing licensee" for Qcom, over 20 yrs they had to do legal battle---over and over and over(sound familiar)...
Then 2008 they settled.
was it something to do with the IPR they < NOKIA) wanted to license to Apple? or some transfer of IPR to Nokia or a friend of my potential litigant is my friend----?
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB121685067582378781.html
if you care to read , this tells me some back room deal was put together, Nokia claim on Apple was about $700mil--this was 2008 as the iphone was going crazy---Nokia has never laid down this easy----
It took QCOM 10yrs+ to get Nokia to surrender...this was the defining company who took Qcom to this level
I have seen the patent wall at Qualcomm home office, its very impressive and a massive arsenal of lawyers behind the wall---
Qualcomm Technology Licensing
Qualcomm's extensive, worldwide patent portfolio boasts thousands of patents and patent applications for CDMA, OFDMA and other technologies. Sales by Qualcomm's licensees of subscriber equipment generate more than 90% of our patent licensing royalty revenues. With the rapid expansion of CDMA and OFDMA worldwide, license and royalty revenues have consistently grown since the first commercial deployment of CDMA technology in 1995.
2.057 Billion on FY 2012----15% growth over 2011.....
yes a great upgrade to $30 would really be nice---they seem to have us stuck there---
thanks--would be nice to have some of the free snacks as well
Any one have a link to the conference today? are we invited?
How we interpret things....at the IRS hearing yesterday Congress figured out that the IRS had changed a word from 1959 from "Exclusive"" to "primary" activity is social welfare---Congress was upset---of course they don't have to implement the laws they pass---same with ITC---the rubber meets the road when you have to make these vague laws work----
“The IRS took a hard, clear word like ‘exclusively’ and changed it into a soft word ’primarily’ and then left it to the IRS agents to determine if your organization was primarily concerned with the promotion of social welfare.”
that's certainly within your rights, all the while IDCC has sold patents, entered into Joint venture with SONY, these court cases are what they are, long , drawn out affairs, and if that doesn't depress you there's plenty of other things in the world to get onto---it would appear that our company takes the high road and does deals on a mutually beneficial arrangement--others have seen that--so will the remainder
Congress in grilling Apple , reminded Apple that "patent protection" is one of the benefits of doing business in USA..I would think DC has a vested interest in seeing patent protection upheld at all levels---
