OT, The characteristics of the home are often wrong in older neigborhoods. I still think it is unreliable.
OT zillow.com is not very accurate, especially for older neighborhoods where homes could have been altered, updated, etc. It is an interesting waste of time IMO.
OT Newly, you are amazing and so kind hearted. If I were to try to answer that question, I would have to double check some info to make sure I was remembering correctly. There was a lot to the question as it regards real property and estate planning (or lack thereof). You are one smart cookie that is for sure!
Tell us you are "healed" by now.
Nice trade Pantera! Think you'll get back in CELG under 40?
I dipped my toe in and bought a little BTU this am too. I see its dropped a little more since then.
Hey BMD wasn't on your "list"! ;) Hope you know I'm just teasing.
Thanks for sharing your list. I'm happy to report that I actually have owned CCJ for awhile now. Hopefully the others will be as profitable!
Thanks for the additional insights, Cy. You are correct in that I am light on energy plays and that I am looking for longer term holds. I was hoping to select a few in the next month or so. I still own ERF, an idea that I got from you, I believe. Quite happy with that buy. Wish I bought more. :)
Thanks again.
OT That's sad. I wouldn't be ordering pizza from them anymore, that is for sure!
Ask for extra sauce!
<<Frankly, I don't think this market has any legs!>>
And immediately the market goes red!
Cy, do you have any thoughts on BJS? It showed up in James Stewart's SmartMoney column as an oil play with a low PEG (0.64). Thanks.
I hope your friend's brother feels better soon. Slow recovery is at least in the right direction, but it would be nice to have it happen sooner than latter. My understanding is that an unlucky few can suffer with this indefinitely. It sounds awful.
Hey! You beat me by 2cents!
Thanks Marketmaven - another question though -- do you happen to know if RIMM's competitors do the same with their sub #s?
Newly, is buying junk silver an investment or for insurance in a doomsday scenario like Joe Stocks was mentioning?
Glad to hear that you are seeing improvement in your pox battle. My "Wellness Letter" from Berkeley has an write-up on shingles (I think extelecom teased you about it). Since you have the chicken pox as an adult, I would think you have less of a chance of getting shingles. They mention that the virus from chicken pox from childhood lies dormant until it emerges as shingles, typically after age 50. It happens in half of those who live to 85. (That sounds really high to me, but what do I know?) However it appears that people who have had chicken pox and have been re-exposed (like caring for a child with it or teaching in school are two examples they give) probably have less of a chance of developing shingles. So that is why I mention the likelihood of you getting shingles is less. In any case, now there is also a new vaccine for shingles approved for folks 60+. Supposed to prevent half of the cases and lessen the severity of the cases that do happen. MRK is the manufacturer. Plan is to charge physicians about $145 a dose so out-of-pocket costs for those without insurance could run $250 to $300. I mention in case someone here is interested in MRK.
Glasses stay on until the end of the week, which is a major bummer for me. I have a corneal divot that hasn't healed, although the towel-created abrasion is gone. Not sure how I got the "divot" but now I have new drops. Pink eye is gone so I don't look as scarey.
I still like the idea of RIMM short but I don't want to be road kill in case the market is buying the "scam". Why do you think the sub #s are phony?
I see that RIMM had some nice short covering here at the end of the day. It looks as though I might have the opportunity to re-create my short. I just didn't want my gains to slip away as I was in danger of that happening on Friday. As it was, I felt I was lucky with today's am action.
Joe, I am such an optimist that it needing silver coins to trade is beyond my comprehension. I like your thought process on why the '64 Kennedys would be a good choice should that scenario come to pass. Doesn't seem like a bad insurance policy to have - especially with many calling for higher silver prices.
I might have to borrow Newly's jocks and get myself some coin!
Thanks AD. I covered at 78.38, so a little on the early side but perhaps tomorrow I'll have another chance to re-short.
You got a laugh out of me Choad!
Joe, why do you think the '64 Kennedys will be among the most negotiable of the coins? Sounds intriguing to me.
Sounds like a fun way to spend the day. LOL
How much volume are we taking here on the junk silver buys? A cubic yard for $500? (My WAG)
I'm ok, but I am going back to the eye doctor this afternoon as I have a few concerns. I am also going to see another lasik surgeon for another opinion - since I have had the contacts out for so long. So far I have seen/talked to 3 surgeons and have gotten different answers.
Closed out the RIMM short. Got nervous with all the green on my screen.
I'd post more, Pantera, but I don't want to clutter Joe's thread with so much non-stock stuff. And since I am not much of a trader, I really don't have much stock stuff to write about. I can tell you that I still have a short on RIMM open -taking your and AD's idea to action.
Still wish I followed Joe's idea to short Amazon. He laid out an excellent case. The follow-through was beautiful to watch.
Darn, I bet on the Silver horse! That must be the problem.
I don't own any silver either. Just some gold companies.
Newly, any opinion on the new US gold coin - I think the Buffalo - that is supposed to be the first US pure coin? (Heard it advertised on the radio). Thanks.
PS Did you resort to the gloves last night?
Thanks for the good wishes.
As for the trading attire, it changes daily. ;)
OT I'm putting the blame on the pink eye on Saratoga, where I didn't even win a single race that I bet! The cornea was brutally attacked in San Jose by a towel. Can't blame your board, Joe - maybe Newly has a different opinion. :)
Corneal abrasions are painful but heal fast. Today I was practically pain free and the pink eye is almost gone. My biggest problem is not being able to wear my contacts - I'm not used to wearing glasses all day so my perception is a bit off. Looking forward to Tuesday. :)
I'm glad to learn you're winning the pox battle. Its tougher on adults than kids I understand. Hang in there!
I'm already on the mend. Poor Newly has a much bigger battle on her hands.
I should have followed you in DRQ. Nice start to the day!
There is a PNRA in Cupertino and they just opened (or about to open) one in North San Jose (not far from SJC). I would imagine there is one coming to your neighborhood soon.
Newly, we are are pair. I have Pink Eye and yesterday I added a corneal abrasion to the mix! Hope you are feeling better soon.
Newly, It seems you have quite the fan club. :)
Aww shucks, I'm blushing. ;)
cha ching beats a Neil Young song by a mile! I suffered through a couple of his songs a few days ago at the old Woodstock site.
Thanks on GILD. I like your idea (since I was leaning that way....)
Any thoughts on selling GILD here or are the bios too strong lately?
Zeev, thoughts on DECK? Earnings tonight. Thanks.
As one of those threadsters that have ALDA and didn't sell on the ramp, I am happy to note that I did think about selling, but didn't bother since my position is small (and now smaller - LOL) Such is life.
