mlsoft, I understood you correctly. My point in posting the chart was to show the history of lower points in the BtB. Beyond that, I would have to rely on Gottfried's interpretation of the significance for semi-equipment stock prices vis-a-vis the BtB. I recollect he has done some studies in this area.
In any case, the chart can be instructive to those who have not seen it before.
AK
This chart from Gottfried who posts on S.I. shows BtB has been lower, and not that long ago.
Here's one you can keep <g>.
Phil, think you were pushing it with these?
broderick, maybe someone didn't like Phil's Mercedes-Benz?
cheifie, you still working out in the weight room? #msg-592479
Is the Beano helping?

GG - is this what you had in mind?

Yeah Churak, and don't you be messin' with da cheif neither -- he's still exercising away in the weight room -- pretty frisky for 87, eh? Hmmm, think he saw gotmilk in there?

I have lived here for more than twenty years, have almost always had excess vehicles on the property, and now it is a problem.
Phil, maybe it's the way you park them after you've been out drinking?
Jon,
Anybody can call 'em the way you are doing. All Sheriff Matt wants out of you on the Jailhouse is credibility, not stock calls. You can establish your credibility in any number of ways. Clearly you are not doing it with your stock calls. You say you like humor? Well, you've got a lot of staff here with experience in the punatentiary. Go for it, but can the stock hyping for now -- it's not going to help you get out of the Jailhouse.

We're ready Jon. Share a little knowledge.

p.s. Listen to Mr. Houston -- you could be posting elsewhere.
Carolyn, this is a small version of the photo, linking to a different site. Please tell me if this one does not work.
not sure how it will react in the morning
mlsoft, I cannot reconcile the news snippets I posted with the highlighted comments from BRKS. Perhaps the magnitude of BRKS loss, and their CC in the morning, and the fact that they are front-end will bring a dose of reality, rather than hope, but then again, maybe this all is the final push up here so major shorts can be established prior to the SEMI report.
It's not supposed to be rational, is it? <g>

mlsoft, here is a snippet from a CBS Marketwatch article from this afternoon:
Here's the headline:
NEW YORK (CBS.MW) -- Chip stocks led a broad rally Wednesday on recovery hopes in the equipment sector.
Here's the relevant text:
"Helping to prop up chip stocks, Soundview Technology analysts said that the first quarter of next year could mark a "turn in the order picture for the semiconductor capital equipment industry."

UPDATE - Brooks-PRI Automation posts fourth-quarter loss
Wednesday November 20, 9:36 pm ET
CHELMSFORD, Mass., Nov 20 (Reuters) - Brooks-PRI Automation Inc. (NasdaqNM:BRKS - News), a maker of equipment that moves microchips around a chip factory, on Wednesday reported a fourth quarter net loss as it struggles with an ongoing slump in the semiconductor industry.
The company, formed by Brooks's $536 million acquisition of PRI Automation completed in May, said it had a net loss of $673.3 million, or $18.76 a share in the quarter ended Sept. 30, including charges of $623.1 million. It had revenues of $103.2 million.
Excluding the charges for asset impairments, restructuring, and other costs, the company reported a loss of $16.3 million, or 45 cents a share in the most recent fourth quarter.
Analysts were expecting a loss in the range of 27 cents to 32 cents a share, with an average estimate of a loss of 31 cents, according to a poll of 12 analysts by market tracker Thomson First Call.
Comparisons with last year's fourth quarter are not meaningful because they do not include PRI Automation results.
In the third quarter, the company lost $24.2 million, or 89 cents a share, on revenue of $85.8 million.
The company also said it expects revenue to fall in the current quarter to a range of $80 million to $85 million, citing what it called a "double dip in semiconductor capital spending."
Brooks also said it was completing an additional round of work force cuts in hopes of breaking even on an operating basis. A Brooks spokesman said further details on the cuts would be discussed during the company's quarterly conference call with analysts on Thursday.
Brooks Chief Executive Robert Therrien said in a statement the company sees "no catalyst apparent that might drive a meaningful semiconductor industry upturn in the immediate future."
Shares of Brooks closed up $1.20 at $13.69 on Wednesday on Nasdaq.
IC book-to-bill slides to 0.87, says VLSI Research

Semiconductor Business News
(11/20/02 06:08 p.m. EST)
SAN JOSE--More doom and gloom for the IC industry. The three-month rolling average of the book-to-bill ratio for semiconductors dropped to 0.87 for the month of October, down from 0.91 in September, according to new figures from VLSI Research Inc. here today.
The IC book-to-bill ratio is expected to remain at 0.87 in November, when bookings are forecasted at $9.67 billion and billings are at $11.09 billion, according to the San Jose-based market research firm.
October bookings were at $9.40 billion and billings were at $10.82 billion, according to VLSI Research. In comparison, September bookings were at $9.52 billion and billings were at $10.51 billion, according to the report.
Fab-capacity utilization has been sliding down from the peak of 87% in June. It was at 84% in October and is anticipated to drop further to 79% in November, according to the market research firm.
“In their pursuit of profitability, IC makers are cutting production to raise prices,” according to VLSI Research. “At the same time, they are adding capacity inexpensively through the following: 1) They are converting existing capacity to tighter CDs, but not production. Reported utilization rates include production of looser geometry parts on tighter capacity, and 2) They are relying on equipment discounts; there is a fair amount of order cancellations and then rebooking at lower prices,” according to VLSI Research.

Semiconductor Business News
(11/20/02 05:52 p.m. EST)
SAN JOSE--Reflecting the current IC downturn, the book-to-bill ratio for the worldwide semiconductor equipment industry hit 0.86 for the month of October, a slight decline from 0.89 in September, according to new figures from VLSI Research Inc. here today.
In November, the chip-equipment market is not expected to improve, as the worldwide equipment book-to-bill ratio is projected to fall to 0.85, according to the San Jose-based research firm.
“Conditions throughout the electronics food chain remain dismal, leading to further deterioration in equipment billings for the rest of the year,” according to VLSI Research.
Billings for October were the lowest level for the second half of 2002. Billings were $2.245 billion for October, down 30% from $3.233 billion from September, but up 15% from the like period a year ago, according to VLSI Research.
Bookings were $1.936 billion last month, down from $2.885 in September, according to the research firm.
Of the total billings in October, $1.34 billion were for wafer processing equipment, $440 million for test and related equipment, $120 million for assembly, and $340 million for service and spares.
In comparison, of the total billings in September, $1.72 billion were for wafer processing equipment, $650 million for test and related equipment, $200 million for assembly, and $340 million for service and spares.
It could go from bad to worse. In November, billings and booking are expected to hit $2.155 billion and $1.841 billion, respectively.
Four of a kind grub
("Do you 'ever' run out of graphics?" -- Matt, with pics like this, what do you think? <g>)
Wormy, please tell us how you really feel.
Great question Matt. I was wondering if he/she had a learner's permit to drive. Hard to know what to believe about Jon -- doesn't seem to be knowledgeable enough to answer even simple questions about his own post, #msg-585365.
You think this is what excites him/her? Don't know why all the talk about short skirts. You seen one, you've seen 'em all.
Think this would keep you off the computer?
I don't even know if Ann is a woman....she/it maybe be a hairy, potbellied, cranky man
Colleen, you are soooo right...

And this could give you a hangover...
(Carolyn, let's get some new beer glasses for the bar, eh?)
This is a hangover too...
You mean this j lo?
Hmmm, nice eyes.
I presume there are separate showers for the female inmates (Feminmates)....am I correct?
Colleen, I really don't know if that issue has been addressed. Annie didn't stay around long enough to get the facility tour even though it was obvious she needed a shower. I think it was the odor from the Cigarellos, BWDIK.
AK
I wonder if they make chain mail underwear in a size 5
Colleen, I'm sure it is adjustable, but how do you know Annie is a size 5?
AK
p.s. Model wearing clothing so as not to upset Sheriff Matt.
Uuh Matt, you're not going to watch the Victoria Secret show tonight are you? You're too young for a heart attack.
AK
Sheriff Matt, if milerman goes to free status, he can't post here at the Jailhouse, and we haven't even given him a bar of Churak's special soap yet. Maybe you ought to consider giving ex-Warden Fred a call <g>.
AK
p.s. And I even brought in something for the inmates tonight.
Much appreciated chiefie, but Opera Baby has been posted here for quite a while. see #msg-557588
I see that you didn't answer Churak's message about you being "frisky". You can always show him this "security camera" shot of you doing your morning exercises; it even captured your jailhouse exercise music.
AK
p.s. And yes, you are excused, but please use Bean-O the next time.

cheif, isn't this kinda old? ... lol ... snort
Why would you think that?
