"This guy is unbelievable and still telling people to buy supplements"
From the article, his credentials-already the making of a legend in his own mind:
As a medical student and award-winning researcher with a background in genetics and anthropology..
You might want to watch, read, & study a bit and ask a few questions before posting a lot of new found knowledge.
MLP can also have tax consequences in a 401K or IRA even if no distributions are taken.
No doubt you were surprised by this turn of events after 4 years on Vascepa and maybe feeling a bit betrayed. On the other hand given the angiogram findings, it is possible that fibrous cap stabilization from the drug prevented plaque from breaking away and causing a heart attack.
Master Limited Partnership I believe.
Would it make sense to add: Does the patient have T2DM?
Here are some papers on the subject of bleeding (the last one is lower EPA levels seen in patients with Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm). These studies show no problem with the exception of people on blood thinners and that wasn't a firm conclusion.

Yes, it is FDA approved for triglycerides over 500. Doctors also prescribe it off label for lower levels.

I can't remember what caused me to look at Amarin, unlike the dates 10/16/2013 and 9/24/2018 that I remember quite well. Back in the day, I think the Apple iPhone stock app carried articles by Seeking Alpha and/or Motley Fool and that's likely where I noticed it. Took first position end of May 2013. Had just retired April 1 so I had some cash and time to amuse myself searching for investment ideas. Oh, and I opened our trading account with great anticipation in December 2007. So began my education in the school of investment hard knocks. Didn't sell though, stubborn that way.
By the ADCOM, I had 5,000 shares @~$7 so when it dropped to ~$2, I didn't panic and I generally don't sell unless it looks hopeless.
Not sure when I joined iHub but not right away. People kept mentioning iHub on yahoo and Stocktwits so I joined too. Anyway, the more I learned, the more I added, even at $0.80.
Being the curious type and my Dad dying of his 3rd heart attack at 67, I read everything that folks posted. Probably have a few hundred articles bookmarked. JL's asymmetrical bet notion and scientific perspective as well as HG, Zum, Sam, and others were influential . My wife and I started talking EPA 500 2-1/2 years ago and have experienced positive effects.
My wife and I have been going to Kauai annually since 2007. Since retirement 4-6 weeks every year. Going to the big island for a week on Oct 25 & then Kauai for 1-1/2 weeks. Will be tracking the AHA presentation on 11/10 from Kauai.
People have been speculating whether Baker Brothers sold and how much. My question, why wouldn't they not only keep what they have but also add more in a buying frenzy? They seem to be the most knowledgeable institution holding Amarin.
You can add me to the list.
That's the case for me. 5K shares going into Adcom @ $7. Kept learning and accumulating. Basis now $1.76. Bought 1K @ 0.80 & gut feeling at the time was to buy more. No regrets tho. I'm good with where I'm at.
I plan to get the book. Thanks. "Thinking Fast, Slow" by Daniel Kahneman was very insightful. It was popular on Wall Street when it was published. I suggested it a couple times or so here, but I don't think anyone read it. A couple posters insistently badgered us delusional fools with dark warnings about our confirmation bias which garnered maybe 2-3 paragraphs in the book. I recall that's why I mentioned Kahneman's work because there's more to the human propensity to make bad choices. In any event, just because you have a confirmation bias doesn't mean it won't be confirmed. My confirmation bias was confirmed and I'm happy about that. I surmise that Baker Brothers are familiar with Kahneman's research.
Buy house or condo near new grandchild in Colorado and built a house on our family farm in ND. Help pay off son's school loans. Support favorite charities.
We did 7 day Anchorage to Vancouver on Holland America. Also 6 day land tour booked separately (guided-no worries, thinking or luggage lugging) and 4 days in Vancouver. Four days in Anchorage to synch tour & cruise. First cruise. Have done 2 more. Fifteen day river cruise Amsterdam to Budapest planned next May. Late June to mid-late August probably best weather. June 10-26 cool at times.
BRAVE-EPA trial completes November 30, 2021.

OmegaVia EPA 500 currently out of stock at Walmart. Amazon, and OmegaVia.
Hello 3.00's !!!
References to Vascepa as fish oil or purified fish oil in various articles and comments gets annoying as most of us know. Below is a draft of long and short versions (short meets Stocktwits character limit). Also to use for elevator talks & friends & family.
Long version for SA, iHub, etc.
Vascepa is Icosapent Ethyl, a derivative of the chemical molecule Eicosapentanoic Acid (EPA), one of the omega 3 polyunsaturated fatty acids. EPA is found in fish oil, algae, and certain plants. It is not purified fish oil.
Short version for Stock Twits:
Vascepa is Icosapent Ethyl, derivative of molecule Eicosapentanoic Acid. EPA is found in fish oil, algae, and certain plants. Not FO.
Improvement suggestions welcome.
PVD appears to be more encompassing because it includes veins as well as arteries.
Sts:
REDUCE-IT Tertiary Endpoint:
New CHF, new CHF as the primary cause of hospitalization, TIA, amputation for PVD, and carotid revascularization
Definitions:
> Peripheral Artery Disease is a type of Peripheral Vascular Disease. People with Peripheral Vascular Disease have problems that alter blood flow through both the arteries and veins. Those people with peripheral artery disease have problems only with blood flow through the arteries.
It's not a linear world. Some big companies in addition to the ones you mentioned (not a complete list):
GM: Bankrupt, raised from the dead.
GE: Kicked out of the DOW 30.
Merrill Lynch: Rescued/sold.
Dell: Who?
Lehman Brothers: Bankrupt.
Valeant Pharmaceuticals: Hiding behind a new name, Bausch Health Companies, hoping people forget the scandals.
You get the idea.
Who brought OPEC to heel? Not Exxon Mobil, Shell, etc. No, it was wildcatters in North Dakota and Texas.
Who lands their rockets on land or an ocean barge after launch so they can reuse them? Not Boeing or Lockheed Martin. No, it is some upstart called SpaceX.
Anther concern is why any BP would want a cheap pill that actually resolves disease with no side effects to treat with more pills. Amarin is a disruptive company and in my opinion there is a lot more disruption to come when Vascepa's ability to treat chronic disease caused by systemic inflammation is substantiated by outcome trials. Few companies can internally disrupt themselves. They become fat, lazy, and risk averse as they grow. Apple and Amazon seem to be exceptions to date. Examples you didn't mention.
The article below reinforces the reality these guys can't compete honestly on their own merits. Otherwise they wouldn't put so much effort into unethical practices.

I'd prefer Amarin GIA....Like Apple did.
Pyrr,
Here's my little contribution to your GoFudMe campaign.

Biologic plausibility for treatment of atherosclerosis. Online July 22, 2015. Over a year before your "exhaustively" researched post.
Thanks! I just had to copy and PDF that post by Pyrrhonian for posterity. Such an excellent example of confirmation bias (and many other things).
Yeah, these BP's are all about humanity. The last thing they want is a cheap pill that actually resolves disease with no side effects to treat with more pills. Where's the fun in that?

Would love to but will be in Kauai watching with great interest from afar. Thanks much for the invite. Looking forward to your commentary.
In Fort Collins @ hotel visiting the kids. Went to B/R @ 3:15 am & checked phone. Saw PR & checked premarket on SA (only up ~$7 by then). Tried to get back to sleep, finally gave up. Let wife sleep tho & told her later. Breakfast with kids & new grandson before driving back to Illinois on Monday & Tuesday. They knew about Amarin & our long slog since May 2013. Nice way to wrap up our visit! Monday, somewhere in Nebraska, our Schwab private client portfolio consultant called a bit before market close & asked if we were drinking champagne. He said when he logs into an account that's up over $600,000 in one day, it's because of a rollover or somebody died! Prescheduled meeting tomorrow. Should be fun.
Probably not a good idea to post when you’re drinking.
Congratulations everyone!
Here are some papers. All except one relate to EPA or omega 3 and treatment of depression. One article is about a study that shows Acetyl L-Carnitine was deficient in people with certain types of depression. The study did not investigate whether supplementation with Acetyl L-Carnitine would help.

Just reread this paper on biologic plausibility for treatment of atherosclerosis with EPA. Better use of my time than fussing over the endless conspiratorial theories here and vacuous SA stories.

Fascinating! It wasn't there when I posted. So, I went back to the page where I copied the link and verified no out of stock message. Then I ordered 2 bottles to see what would happen. The order went through & I got an email saying the order was being processed, delivery September 25. Will post if I get an update revising the status to something different. By the way, now the Walmart page says out of stock.
Appears available from online Walmart although I haven't tried ordering from them yet.

Exactly! WTF do these random DA posters misunderstand about Amarin's public statements that top line results will be released by the end of September?
Seeing SA alert message for AMGN on phone in morning while eyes are still bleary & unfocused spikes the heart rate.
Current situation on EPA500:
Amazon:
Currently unavailable.
We don't know when or if this item will be back in stock.
OmegaVia:
Out of stock due to unexpected demand
We expect EPA 500 to be back in stock by mid-September. We apologize for the inconvenience. Sign up below to be notified when product is back in stock.
Seems unusual. Why the unexpected demand? Did a supplement company buy up all their production in anticipation of successful RI? Did OmegaVia embargo their production to supply a national chain in anticipation of RI? Guess we'll see in mid September.

Didn't know much about PAD until Amarin's RWE PR. Here's a few things I learned:
1) Claudiction: (from Wikipedia) is a medical term usually referring to impairment in walking, or pain, discomfort, numbness, or tiredness in the legs that occurs during walking or standing and is relieved by rest.[1][2] The perceived level of pain from claudication can be mild to extremely severe. Claudication is most common in the calves but it can also affect the feet, thighs, hips, buttocks, or arms.[1] The word claudication comes from the Latin claudicare meaning 'to limp'.
2) Classic Intermittent Claudication (IC) leg muscle discomfort provoked by exertion that is relieved with rest.
3) Atypical IC: lower extremity discomfort that is exertional but does not consistently resolve with rest.
4) Critical Limb Ischemia (CLI): In 5 to 10 percent of cases, claudication progresses to a worsened severity of the disease, called critical limb ischemia (CLI)—defined as ischemic rest pain for more than 14 days, ulceration, or tissue loss/gangrene. CLI is the initial presentation in about 1 to 2 percent of all patients with PAD, and patients with CLI have a mortality of 25 percent at 1 year.
5) About 10 million people in the US have PAD. Only 25% are being treated.
6) Over $5 billion in annual US healthcare cost for PAD.
7) Treatment includes lifestyle, medication, angioplasty/stent, bypass surgery, atherectomy, and as things get worse, amputation.
8) Japanese study on PAD: https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0107003
9) Another Japanese study, ABI vs. EPA/AA among smokers with T2DM. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4731969/
Very interesting that Amarin chose to prioritize a RWE study on effects of elevated triglycerides on PAD and present a poster at ESC.
While they may not currently be able to rationalize treatment of PAD with Vascepa, if RI is successful, as more people are prescribed Vascepa RWE data on PAD effects should emerge. It (PVD) is also a tertiary endpoint so the RI cohort will provide initial data.
