Worldwide mobile phone market posts healthy gains
Sep. 03, 2004
Worldwide mobile phone sales exceeded 156.4 million units in the second quarter of 2004, a 35 percent increase over the second quarter of 2003, according to a report released this week by Gartner Inc. The market research firm says all regions experienced "healthy sales" of mobile phones in the second quarter, and that more than 300 million mobile phones shipped in the first half of 2004.
Looking toward the balance of the year, Gartner projected total worldwide 2004 sales of around 620 million units, but noted that if the current momentum is maintained the number could grow to 650 million. Additionally, Gartner analysts cautioned that shipments beyond 650 million units this year might result in excess inventory that could harm sales in the first half of 2005.
On a regional basis, Gartner says the Western European market is being driven by consumers who got their first mobile phones in 2000 and 2001, and now they're upgrading to smaller color-screen phones with built-in cameras that have become available at much lower prices. Brazil continued to be the driving force in Latin America, although Mexico also contributed strong sales in the region. Other countries, such as Argentina, are showing signs of recovery from the economic downturn. In North America, replacement sales were high as operators subsidized enhanced handsets, and consumers were willing to upgrade to devices with more features, especially camera phones.
The full Gartner quarterly report, "Market Share: Mobile Terminals Worldwide, 2Q04", is available for purchase on the company's web site.

We'll see how stupid the american people are, if they buy that shit at the convention they are suckers, i love how Bush can run on 3,000 people dead, that was what that whole convention was about
how do you run on your own mistakes and lack of a response, where is bin laden, so basically the guy is running on being able to speak through a bullhorn and throw a baseball at yankee stadium, can someone tell me what else he did right after his government slept all summer through vacation
anyway don't worry about the polls, the real polls will be after the first debate, that time magazine poll is bullshit, no way he has an 11 point lead, whoever wins this race is only winning by 2 points
This is the real poll, Zogby, that and CBS were the only polls to get the 2000 election right, and he nailed the primaries
http://www.zogby.com/news/ReadNews.dbm?ID=857
haha, rooster I am so surprised Bush got a post convention bounce, it means nothing this year, look even Dukakis was up 25 points after his convention, if you show me 3 or 4 polls that come out next week that say the same thing, then I will worry, a little
That same Time poll had Kerry up by 8 percent after his convention, both times they were wrong, if you really think that is his lead you are smoking crack
OT, Yeah, who knows, but that was the worst game, I was only a little kid, but it was one of the earliest memories of being a Jets fan, although one thing is for sure, the Jets team was fast and Miami knew that, many people think the Dolphins kept the tarp off the field the night before to make it as muddy as possible, that was one of the worst fields

NEW YORK - Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., who has pushed for civility in this year's presidential race, is warning that the biting attack on Sen. John Kerry by a fellow Democrat at the Republican National Convention on Wednesday night might harm President Bush's efforts to woo swing voters.
McCain said the keynote address by Sen. Zell Miller, D-Ga., could prove as controversial as a speech by Patrick J. Buchanan at the 1992 GOP convention in Houston.
"I think it backfires," McCain said of Miller's rhetorical assault on Kerry. He added that it "makes Buchanan's speech ... look milquetoast."
McCain made his comments to reporters at a party he hosted after the convention's Wednesday session ended.
Buchanan's speech — in which he declared a "culture war" was under way in America — was thought by many Republicans to have hurt the re-election bid of Bush's father, then-President George H.W. Bush. The elder Bush lost to Democrat Bill Clinton.

ZELL MILLER MIGHT HAVE BROUGHT DOWN THE REPUBLICAN PARTY TONIGHT
Just as Pat Buchanan did in 1992, they will rue the day they put him up there, they are not going to get any undecideds or swing voters with his hate filled speech
I am laughing right now at this convention, I was nervous before it but now I am laughing, the Republicans did not talk about the future at all, all they did was wrap themselves in 9/11
and then you have psycho Zell scaring all of the undecided women, hahahahahahha
Zell Miller is a liar, only 3 years ago Miller said John Kerry has consistently voted to strengthen the military
That guy looked like a nazi, i am laughing at the republicans for putting that nut up there, how many swing or woman voters are you going to court with a maniacal looking corpse up there screaming the world is going to come to an end
good job by rove let's put the antichrist up to speak
hahahaa
Well I live about 45 minutes away, any messages you need me to send to the republicans
This is the exact message i get with navigator

Im pretty sure they didn't show it on air, I was watching, he did mention it, but they did not show it
You think any politician can keep all of his promises, if they guy fails to do what he campaigned for then he will be voted out in four years, remember Bush voted on a humble foreign policy and promised no nation building, look I don't think Bush is a bad guy, I just think he did a bad job, he didn't even do the afghan war correctly, that country has one city Kabul, the rest is run by warlords, taliban and al qaeda, and where the hell is bin laden and the top leaders, that is a disgrace
well John Kerry is going to get rid of the tax cut for people making over 200,000 and use the money for health care and education, he is actually going to increase the middle class tax cut, he is going to kill al qaeda, actually al qaeda, not iraqis, because we need a president who will actually hunt down bin laden
kerry is actually going to fund stem cell research, he is going to create a hydrogen institute which will dedicate millions of dollars and a 10 year dedication to develop alternative fuels, so we are not beholden to the saudi pigs
those are just a few things, i can go on and on, funny how you have nothing that bush is running on
Again you are wrong, I am waiting for you to tell me what W is running on, and then I will hit you with all of the things Kerry is running on
yeah tried navigator, it says redirect limit reached on url, need to check if cookie is blocked or something to that effect
Terrorism can't be wiped out, Bush says THE REAL FLIPFLOPPER

Today's Speakers
Here's a preliminary list of speakers at today's Republican National Convention at Madison Square Garden in New York:
Key speaker: California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, a former bodybuilder and movie star who supports abortion rights and criticized his party for pursuing the impeachment of President Bill Clinton.
Other speakers:
• First lady Laura Bush, a former teacher, who will offer a personal look at her husband and his sense of duty to the country.
• Secretary of Education Rod Paige, a charter school supporter who will highlight the president's initiatives for U.S. schools. Paige, who led the Houston school system when Bush was governor of Texas, has spearheaded the introduction of the No Child Left Behind law, signed in 2002 to hold states and local school districts accountable to certain standards.
• Sen. Elizabeth Dole, former secretary of transportation and labor departments. Dole of North Carolina announced her bid for the presidency in 1999 but withdrew in October that year after a weak showing in the polls.
• Sen. Bill Frist, Senate majority leader. Frist, a former heart surgeon from Nashville, Tenn., pushed for prescription drug benefits as a part of Medicare in passing the Medicare overhaul law in November. He also supported the president's policy on embryonic stem cell research.
• Erika Harold, the 2003 Miss America.
• Lt. Gov. Michael Steele, 46, of Maryland, who last year became the first black elected to a statewide office in Maryland.

NASHUA, N.H. -- Despite campaigning for months as the candidate who can win the war on terror, President Bush said in an interview broadcast Monday that he didn't think such a war could ever be won but that it was important to reshape the world to make terrorism "less acceptable."
"I don't think you can win it," Bush said in the interview on NBC's "Today" show.
"But I think you can create conditions so that those who use terror as a tool are less acceptable in parts of the world."
Democratic presidential nominee Sen. John Kerry immediately countered that he thought a struggle against terror was "absolutely" winnable.
Bush's remark, which appeared to be a retreat from previous pledges to fight and win the war on terror, was quickly followed with statements from aides clarifying what the president meant.
"He was talking about winning it in the conventional sense," White House spokesman Scott McClellan said.
"I don't think you can ever expect that there will ever be a formal surrender or treaty signed like we have in wars past," he said. "You can't put a time frame on it, per se."
Democrats jumped on the statement as evidence Bush was backpedaling in the face of an enemy that has proved tougher than anticipated.
Sen. John Edwards, Kerry's running mate, said Bush was prematurely giving up.
"This is no time to declare defeat," Edwards said, saying that he and Kerry have a long-term strategy for victory.
The Kerry campaign sent reporters quotes from previous Bush speeches, one as recently as last month, in which Bush said the war was winnable.
"I have a clear vision and a strategy to win the war on terror," Bush told a campaign rally July 19 in Waukesha, Wis.
As far back as April, Bush said he found it "interesting" when people would ask if the nation could win the war on terror.
"Of course you can," he said, adding, "it's essential we win this battle in the war on terror."
After the interview, Bush opened a six-state swing that will bring him to New York late Wednesday.
Can I ask what George Bush is running on, and they I will tell you what Kerry is running on
I agree, there is a fine line and I think they already crossed the line, also I am surprised at how much they attack john kerry personally, that is not going to look good either, they are not presenting what george bush will do
ANOTHER ZIT LIE you are wrong that was picked before the speakers, and by the way cbs had the hour tonight, so i don't know what you are talking about, but anyway those days are picked in advance, so the party can change who is speaking accordingly, and teddy kennedy never spoke at 10 pm, the only hour the networks covered, don't forget barack obama got snubbed one night
ZIT YOU JUST CONTINUE TO LIE, IT IS AMAZING HOW MUCH YOU ARE LYING, OR HOW WRONG YOU ARE, YOU JUST MAKE STUFF UP AS YOU GO ALONG
What a sickening display at the Republican convention, the whole convention is politicizing 9/11, I mean I knew they would bring it up, but this is pretty sad, this is their whole convention, you conservatives criticized Kerry for making Vietnam a large part of his convention, let's see if the media criticizes the Republicans for trying to ride into the white house off of the 3,000 dead bodies that day, what a disgrace, I have a funny feeling after this convention we still won't know what Bush wants to do for the next four years
how can they run on 9/11 anyway, Bush still has not caught Bin Laden, what a joke, this guy hasn't done one thing right(maybe I am exaggerating), since his speech after 9/11 in front of Congress
I would like to know if they asked all of the families of the victims if they could do this, you didn't see any 9/11 family members at the democratic convention, this from the same president who opposed the 9/11 commission, and it took a fight from the families to get it created
Hello, anyone know why I can't post on raging bull, deleted cookies and temp internet files, still nothing, i can read the posts but when i try to post it starts to load then goes to explorer can't load screen
OTThanks, I did that, site still does not work, I only deleted the cookies associated with the site, because I hate retyping in all of my log in information for each site, and I got rid of all temp files, but still nothing, raging bull stinks as far as service
OT Ok I know how to do run disk defragmenter and all that, but where do you find your cookies and temp internet files, thanks
Thanks Jimlur I have done that, has not done anything, i emailed them, see what happens
The Raging Bull Board is back, sounds like a good place where rumors can be posted, if I can only get my computer to be able to post again, because I have some sources with some Nokia news, but I can't post it here
amr come on you are smarter than that, you know what I or anybody here says has no impact on the price, this is not a penny stock, I am in this for the long haul, the only thing I am timed in on is my jan 35 2006 options, and even with those I am not looking for a short bump in prices, I don't know why here seem to think at various times I was shorting the stock or day trading, never was the case, never had enough money to do that, I have some long shares and a decent amount of options, enough that if it were to hit 100 by 2006 I would make a nice chunk of change, I'm young so I am trying to set up a nice future with IDCC
the reason why i am posting again is because we are getting close to the zero hour, the election is heating up because it is 2 months away, well after the election we will be 2 months away from a nokia decision, this is going to be huge one way or the other and I am starting to get energized again
good luck
