A.- I hear you, just different trading styles.
We both know that occasionally, with actual physical stops, the PPS will drop drastically--perhaps for only a few minutes--but long enough to harvest those stops. Then the PPS recovers and moves on.
I've been very busy with a real estate deal--my other interest--but will try and visit more often, thanks.
Gary
I'll throw something out.
Everyone is playing with a different amount of chips in front of them. I've been very fortunate, and I enjoy high stakes, so I probably take bigger positions than many on the iHub forums.
But it doesn't matter if you're trading with one hundred dollars or one million dollars, many of the same basic principles apply.
I lost $25,000 on NBG today. I'll get it back, I'm quite confident of that, but I didn't make my money by being foolish and this was not my finest hour.
I've saved my bacon many, many times by averaging down, as have most traders. It's a basic, necessary strategy when used correctly. I kept averaging down on NBG until I had a ridiculously huge position, each time saying those fateful words, "It just can't get any lower than this!"
Set your stops, either physical or mental. Know how much you're willing to risk/lose. When the stock reaches that point, no matter how much it hurts, cut it loose. Move on.
NBG: Well that sucked! Just sold my entire position, huge loss.
Trading is stressful enough, dealing with international politics just makes it worse. Never again.
HL Added a bit $3.96 - $3.97.
Still not sure why this isn't steadily moving up, but I think it will.
I'm sorry, no, but it shouldn't be too hard to find.
All IMHO, FWIW: I think that the political situation in Cyprus, Greece, and the rest of Europe for that matter is affecting NBG way beyond any measurable numerical metric. At this point it's as much about perception as it is equity.
Best of luck.
Busted!
No sweat, when it comes to stocks he does whatever I tell him to do. Secret to his success.
Warren's coming over tonight for beer and pizza, I'll let him know.
I could be wrong but I believe that two Spanish banks, CEISS and Banco Gallego, and Millennium Bank in Virginia all have negative shareholder equity. Probably others out there.
Oh, didn't you know--NASDAQ Rule 22, Paragraph B, Line 8--you get one mulligan per year.
FWIW: A new post by DewDiligence, a very knowledgeable long-time CLF holder: #msg-86179834
Starting to think that it could actually go to $10. Unbelievable.
Agree 100%, that's the floor. I have an overweight position here.
When the hysterical hype calms down a bit--and it will--this should really move.
Best of luck.
CLF It's the biggest North American iron ore producer and now the cheapest buy-out. Someone like BHP could pay a 50% premium and still get a fantastic deal. IMO, just a matter of time.
Alrighty then, in that case I'm now 40, calling my wife at work and giving her fair warning.
At one point CLF was a $112 dividend-paying stock and generally regarded as a safe, somewhat conservative, very solid blue chip stock. Hard to believe what's happened.
Certainly makes you question the wisdom of buy and hold.
TKMR- Agree, wasn't commenting on the drug or company, pro or con, just the difficulty trading it!
TKMR- ADV about 50K, some days as little as 4K! If you try to buy in any size, the ask just runs away from you. Same for selling. Just don't have the patience, also watching.
Well MXWL sure didn't work: sorry folks.
Good morning.
FWIW, I don't trade nearly as much as some here--many days not at all--and today could be one of those.
Holding NBG & HEK green, I'd be happy letting either one go at any time but will probably let them run a bit.
Holding HL & MXWL slightly red but feel good about both, will just let them develop, perhaps add a bit.
Best of luck.
It's like some bad, very bizarre soap opera. Enough already.
HL Like biotechs, which I'm a bit more familiar with, these metal stocks are in a world of their own!
Looking at the fundamentals and the chart, this should be at least in the mid-$4's, maybe even $5.
Any thoughts?
AT Today's drop seems overdone. Any thoughts?
Added some MXWL at $5.59.
Keeping a close eye on it, might add before close.
In HL at $4.02.
In AT at $4.91.
MXWL Starter at $5.63.
NBG Limit sell at $1.05, will see, no problem holding if it doesn't sell today.
The psychology of traders (abnormal psychology? ) is a much-studied subject, and for some strange reason I just like to be done with stuff and move on.
NBG Getting greedy, going to hold and see what happens. Hope I don't regret it!
The main thought on my little mind today is the 100K shares of NBG at .94 that I managed to accumulate because my original buy was too high and I had to average down all last week like a maniac!
Anyway, might get out today while the getting is good before some other bizarre thing happens in Cyprus.
Also, thinking about beginning a positon in MXWL, going to see how it acts. Still holding HEK, probably will for awhile.
Best of luck to everyone today and during the week!
D. - I've somehow accumulated 100K shares of NBG (that pesky averaging down sure sneaks up on you, doesn't it? )
Considering getting out today while the getting is good? You?
"Is the Buy & Hold Stock Strategy Officially Dead?"http://finance.yahoo.com/news/buy-hold-stock-strategy-officially-182631835.html
The "truth" probably lies somewhere between the two syles, and depends on each person's financial situation, their comfort level, their goals, etc.
Very funny, excellent article.
I've been having a civil but ongoing & extended argument with a perma-bear on another site. Virtually every day for the past five years he's been calling for the end of the world as we know it. His opportunity costs as this point are just staggering.
Last April's earnings report showed positive revenue & revenue growth, positive EPS, but slightly lower than the dreaded "analysts' estimates" and so the stock took a hit.
I would say the pull of $18—if I understand you correctly—is no longer in effect and the gravitational attraction of that planet is receeding into another galaxy, not to be revisited for many eons.
However, the pull of the $9-$10 area of just a short while ago is still very much in effect, and we really don't need it to get that high to make a nice profit from the current $5.80 PPS.
Best of luck.
I'm very interested in your thoughts about GLDD and I'm going to start doing some DD today.
Thanks for the idea!
I've enjoyed reading and posting on the board this week!
A bit more weekend DD on MXWL:
Last week Piper Jaffray went from overweight to neutral, changing their price target to $6.50 from $11.50. I think that's rather low, but even at that price there's money to be made.
From the report:
