Very interesting topic, but what is Americanization of the world?
Sometimes I still try to adapt my logic to MS...
Fred, probably one is always dissatisfied with its own government the most. One outstanding example is Gorbatchev, liked everywhere except in former soviet union.
Just came home from a very successful Hamlet piece on a small stage. Fortunately the modern adaption was well done. So I won't get into pamphlets to much now... LOL
I kind of thought it is funny you called the EU "the last hope of the free world". One might discuss the term free world first to avoid misunderstandings. Anyway the EU bodies are arranged in a highly problematic matter. Right now, it might be more good than bad but time changes and if you don't get checks and balances included into the model it might be very difficult to have a control from the "bottom". Just take the parliament. Don't think it is like in the US when you guys elect your governeurs and the president. I would even bet 90% of the people over here can't name 2 members of the EU parliament. (Birdie?) Actually, it doesn't matter, since the parliament can't introduce a bill on it's own, it has to wait until the commission (kind of executive branch) makes a proposal and only at that time. That is like the US congress has to wait until a bureaucrat from the DOD draws a sketch for a bill about homeland security (And only his sketch is considered). Please. But it goes on, since the commission can give out directives to all the national parliaments, which afterwards changes this directive into national law. And the EU parliament isn't obliged to "comment". The funny thing is, the commission isn't disclosing their sessions, so we don't know (mostly) what they talk about (probably about women and cigars). Now this commission consists basically of bureaucrats and not politicians, who can hardly be kicked out and are strongly related to some lobbies. Take the farmers. Alot of the EU budget goes into the agrarian budget and to keep Non-EU agrarian products out. And so on.
So we got a lot of different countries and the EU tries to get them closer together, I don't know if I want to call it unification. Now this happens by the use of regulation. (Basically everythink is written down, regulated and translated into every language. (Very well paid by the way)) And this regulation takes power away from the national, democraticly elected governments to the not-democratic bodies of the EU.
It is far more complex, but might give you an idea in which direction I am heading. Definitely I am proEU but the current situation is dangerous and nobody really knows the story...
About the cookies, well I don't think it was mainly about the citizens, rather to support the EUcompanies more by pushing back the influence of the americans...
So far so good and Good Night all.
PS.: Free would have to contain least-regulated, imho.
I sure like to watch it, but kind of fighting with the system to play it. No browser/codec wants the way I want...
Unfortunatly not, since I expect a breakout higher to happen anytime, based on TA or/and news I am simply long. Well, lacking still the guts to be a hardcore daytrader like Koi, might become it later on?
Nice weekend everybody.
Did you put your 40% back on the table Koi?
So, looks like it's gonna be a nice weekend. Any news we haven't found?
And now profit taking?
I remember reading the post of yours back at RB, but forgot to ask you at that time...
Birdie, of course, the proof is on IHub.
Do you have a link about the optimization of XP for Transmeta? Thanks.

DMFC(Direct Methanol Fuel Cell)
I remember them talking about 3DNow! and SSE. It could easily be added, but the effort wasn't justified yet, since nobody demanded it. Maybe they will do it with later generations, or they keep that feature for upcoming crusoes...
EU? Last hope of the free world? Ay, the biggest lobbying conglomerate on earth with basically no democracy say openness?
At least the money is cool...
Ok, my bet is we are building a bottom around those levels right now, unless the Naz tanks badly. This is the 50% retracement, right? Probably for people following this for some time (like me) it doesn't matter, since average buying price is far below...
Embedded Bios. Sounds great to me. Crusoe is getting supported more and more. I wish they would bring out a Desktop CPU, so I can build some boxes here. Using 4 PCs right now, sometimes to noisy in the evening...
Even Greater, Bob increased the max number of posts to 10, that should be enough for some wild times. Thanks...
Welcome, weaksidehelp - nice name. (although lately the weak side seems to be the sell side LOL)
About AMD and Intc. Well if AMD stays away from the ULV segment and gives Intc trouble at the high end, this should be positive for Transmeta from a strategic point of view.
Anyway, there are enough markets out there for Transmeta to play...
Like to see them go for the medical/bio sector...Somewhat more stable compared to the gadget industry...

AMD to buy Alchemy
In bed with MIPS embedded chips
By Mike Magee, 29/01/2002 18:38:21 BST
NOW WE KNOW why AMD raised $500,000 last week.
The company is to buy Alchemy Semi, a firm that competes with Intel's Xscale technology and makes embedded chips that uses MIPS technology.
EE Times reports that the acquisition will help position AMD against the StrongARM compatible Xscale technology, which has been something of a money spinner for Intel.
The move also demonstrates AMD's willingness to move back into other areas of the semiconductor market, after a retrenchment over the last four or five years.
Alchemy is a startup company formed by two ex-DEC staffers and needed additional financing, given the currently parlous state of the vulture capital community.
Many of AMD's engineers are also ex-DEC semiconductor veterans, the most notable being Dirk Meyer, who was lead designer on the Compaq/Intel Alpha microprocessor.
No financial details were available at press time. µ

Intel has free access to AMD X86-64 code
Skunkworks a go-go
By Mike Magee, 29/01/2002 12:22:52 BST
SOURCES AT AMD confirmed what we earlier believed, and that is there is no obstacle to Intel using the Hammer X86-64 instruction set if the chip giant wants to pursue a backup plan.
Sources close to AMD said that Transmeta "licensing" the instruction set, which it did last May, meant no more than it had decided to work with the instruction set and there were no real conditions or limitations on use for X86-64 code.
That means that Intel - which as we reported here some time ago has a "skunkworks" preparing a 64-bit backup plan - can freely use the AMD instructions to make a processor, if that's what it chooses to do.
Intel is pinning many of its hopes on its Itanium processor on the three flavours of McKinley and on future generations of the processor, including Madison.
These, as reported earlier, will have large caches and although McKinley will be made using the .18 micron process, other, later iterations will use smaller processes such as .13 micron.
Meanwhile, AMD has no plans to produce ultra ultra low power mobile Athlons in the immediate future, preferring, in one source's words, to "let Transmeta and Intel slog it out". µ

Well, there were a few things that took my hat off, but one of the most striking was how he describes msft giving out revenue guidance, selling puts on its own stock heavily afterwards and collecting the premium. Using this premium to brush up earning and beating analyst predictions, making the stock price rise and the put option expire.
This might be legal, but to my common sense it's not just insider trading, but also stock fraud, since it is not reported to the public. Many more examples he writes. Also how msft is the money giver to reuters and others. But what do you do if the economy is not going well or everybody is running law suits against msft? Speculate against your own stock?
Also intc, selling stocks not to raise cash for capital spending, but to brush up earnings in quarters they don't sell enough chips, to satisfy wall street, like in Q1 01. I wonder why we hear so little about that. Nobody seems to care. Anyway, I am always annoyed by intels balance sheets, looks like financial officers are still in kindergarten. Wonder why?
Take it easy.

Today, I was just sitting back and enjoying.
For my long time hold, I will neither add nor subtract any one share to it, since it is already at a maximum possible amount of money I would put in any one stock. Although at a very good price, I bought all the shares I wanted, strongly convinced that Transmeta is going to be successful. Now when it starts to prove itself, I want to see it go up to 3 digit prices, even if I have to wait for some years. If I loose all the money (if the great team at Transmeta screws up) bad luck, but it won't kill me. I would averaging up now, if I wouldn't have this stock stocked up to max already.
For my personal pleasure, I will play the up and downs with some tiny amounts of money. (tiny really) For now, I bet on the up move.
What is Orpheus doing? ProLiant? After you said it....
Janee, your posts over at rhat are the reason I sold a nice going tech fund with a huge exposure in msft and intc. After reading the speculative spiral msft is in, and the new article of that guy, describing, how Enron tried to copy Msft's speculative modell, but bloodily failed. Tripled the money in 4 years in that fund, was time to get out anyway.
A must read, although I disagree with some "facts" and "opinions" he mentions, simply because they are not true, but he got me cautious anyway. Stay easy:

Thanks.
The yahoo board is indeed crowded and full of information, but you also get spammers there. I kind of got to like IHub. It's small and has a more private atmosphere. Bob is working on customizing the color scheme, we can post charts, pictures and ban bashers. Also, this one seems more focused.
Since I don't think there is an immediate need to hype Transmeta ( ), because it will go up in the long run, I rather hang out with nice people.
Cheers.
Hype or not, we are going up. Those were not only daytraders who bought. There are big guys buying. And they didn't think $3.65 is to expensive. Did you see those 25K blocks traded? Came in on the Bid side over ARCA and other institutional ECNs. They even kept the bid @$3.45 @ARCA until AH 6.27pm EST friday. Question is only will he pause for some days and come back afterwards with a different strategy or will he continue on monday? Nasdaq volume is double counted, so far 2.5mill shares on friday.
I wonder how many people are reading this TMTA board?
What is GARP?
Barron's article is great. Quoting Intel boss ranting Intel chips. The P-III-Server is burning >30Watts.
Run, TMTA, run. Big money chasing you.

Barron's Magazine Table of Contents for January 28, 2002

Institional buying can come well before $5. If there is a gem to be made money on, big guys gonna chase it, on expectation it will go and stay above $5, they can enter <$5. However some funds have limits not to own stocks below $5. Those funds come into play after we stay >$5 and lock some shares away.
On the Compaq CC there is probably a part we can't listened to. Q&A at the end. Analyst asking,...
Anyway ones this stock caught upward momentum, a lot of big guys want to get into. I mean, up till now only Baupost Group owns a big position and some small retirement funds...
Also liked what, was it the CPQ sales guy?, said about the server projects: unlimited scalability, trying to cover everything. There might be a place for Transmeta in Compaq servers (blades)/web hosts as well...
Go TMTA
Did you get that from Compaq boards?
Thanks and a nice weekend.
The TAs were pregnant. Also a lot of rumors. Compaq deal the most likely one, AMD buyout less likely and EcoPC interesting so far. Just think institutions are starting to grab this stock. If we stay above $3 next week we try for $4 and $5, and maybe $6.7.(get the gap closed) Why not? If we get very good news, it will be fast and merciless on the way up like the last 2 hours today.
Production is ramping up. I try to get some infos from the Compaq analyst conference of today. Heavy buying started after their CC was finished. Nobody cared about the Bollingers.
..........
Anyway, guess this one won't be a sleeping pill anymore. Back in game.
Yiihaaaw

Saying LongRun in ALL DesktopPCs. ! ?
Bill Gervasi of Transmeta presents the EcoPC. A new design approach.
Maybe a nice little application for the LongRun. It's all from here: Platform Conference.
It's time for the PC to please shut up! The availability of high bandwidth Internet connections and the presence of music and video file formats has enabled a wealth of new applications for the PC as a home entertainment center. However, the noise generated by personal computers reduces the enjoyment of these media and keeps the PC locked in a side room away from the family living space. Let's look at the sources of noise and lay out a roadmap for the Fanless PC as a true, quiet home appliance.

Koi, so far so good
Considering TA TMTA is ripe for a big breakout. Still it might not happen today but could, Bollinger might have to get tighter. (on my >1month chart) We'll see.
Nice read:

As long as you recognize Tlansmeta, that's ok.
And here is the reference to it. (If they could only ship 'em a plenty, feels like TMTA finally does some more marketing, can't do enough...)

Yup, but there is always a damper. Don't like the last sentence. Getting kind of paranoid on production delays...
So far so good.

The average ASP for TM5x00 chips is $100. Ranging from $80-$120, I am not sure if the range represents different chips (5500,5600,5800) or the amount bought. I assume right now they only ship to OEMs at those prices. To get one separately, maybe if the guys at Transmeta have a good day?
