Tecate,
I was actually surprised to see AMD allowed employees to allocate upto 20% of their pay into ESPP. Intel's ESPP is limited to 10% of an employee's pay with the same discount rate of %15.
Snow
But Barcelona will still rule! You just don't know this because you're not as smart as Mas. ;)
Snow
Then you'll be happy to know that there will be a few surprises at the fall IDF (above and beyond Nehalem). Unfortunately (or forturnately, depends on how you look at it) I don't know what they are but I'm eagerly awaiting to hear about them.
Snow
Probably. Consider the fact that there's already a system called "V8" based on Intel technology that isn't very visible to most. Not even sure there have been many sales of the V8 (if any).
Snow
No, he argues for the sake of arguing and he's never wrong. This is his game and we continue to play it with him. I think he gets great satisfaction from this.
Snow
So send us a picture of the Barcelona you purchased for your purse making company. :)
Snow
Stay on topic Mas. We're not discussing the use of NDA's in general; rather, We're discussing the specific language / content in the NDA that AMD required the Journalists to sign. You're simply trying to gerneralize the topic so you can play your games. Not going to happen.
Snow
You wouldn't be saying this if Intel pulled this crap.
Snow
Drual.... you're so lucky and I'm so envious.
Snow
Wow, nice. If it's not NDA'd, please share the wealth of knowldge you gain.
Snow
drjohn,
Don't forget, Intel already has one operational 45nm fab - D1D and Penryn is scheduled for launch in Q4.
Snow
You reference Dan LOL!!! I wouldn't expect anything less from Joe.
Snow
Which basically means the only quad core cpu you can get today is from Intel! :)
Snow
You live in such a fantasy world. The reviews are saying mediocre at best and yet you see AMD killing Intel. This just tells me you don't really care about the merits or data behind the arguments, you're just here to play ego games. I've had the impression for a while now that you argue just to argue and don't really care about the subject.
Snow
You mean Mas's reality after taking the blue pill.
Snow
To me, it means the glory days of Opteron/Athlon were an anomaly in the 30+ year history of competition between INTC and AMD. Looks like AMD is returning to the pre Opteron/Athlon days. Just my $.02.
Snow
Looks like Intel is taking a play from AMD's PR play book. :) BTW, can you repost your Barc estimates so we can compare them to the recent ISV reviews? (Yes, I'm lazy and I don't want to search for them.)
Snow
To be fair, shouldn't you be comparing a Q6600, Q6700, and above rather than the E series? Phenom is quad core correct?
Snow
Ditto, but on a different day and for $26.
Snow
Didn't mas say he was leaving because he wanted to be a CEO? This looks like a lateral move at best.
Snow
Wish I had an aggressive noise reduction driver to filter/eliminate all the noise AMD creates. :)
Snow
Put on your night vision goggles! 5.5 days and counting til the Barc launch. You're going to need night vision googles to see through the darkness of AMD's marketing blitz on Sept 10. I'm expecting AMD to play every trick they have to deceive consumers.
Snow
The true behavior of a "monopolistic" company. It terrifies me to think what this industry would be like if AMD were in Intel's shoes.
Snow
They don't have to be the ones doing it directly. They create the strategy and pay "mercenaries" to fight for them on the frontline. That's all this is. It's still AMD behind the helm.
Snow
Kate,
You've given up way too easy. AMD has a lot of work to do to prove their case in court. Don't be discouraged by their lame ass PR campaign.
Snow
But you're forgetting, AMD is better by design ;) Forget the details. Details, shmetails!
Snow
Yeah, I'm reading other websites about this same topic and there's a lot of confusion about the test set up for both articles. Go figure.
Snow
I'm not dreaming, there's a contradiction in the test set up info. The top level summary provides the information you referenced, the details in the body of the test say differently. Scroll down and read the display info.
Snow
For what it's worth, here are the side by side system comparisons from the two articles.
Operating System
Intel: Windows XP - AMD: Windows Vista Ultimate
DirectX
Intel: DirectX Version 9.0c - AMD: Not Mentioned
Mobo
Intel: ASUSTeK Blitz Extreme - AMD: Not Mentioned
AGP Rates (Current/Available)
Intel: 8x / N/A - AMD: Not Mentioned
CPU
Intel: Core 2 Q6850 5.1 GHz - AMD: Agena FX 3.0 GHz
Memory
Intel: 2048 MB - AMD: 4GB (3.24GB)
GPU
Intel: 1 ATI HD 2900 XT - 2 ATI HD 2900 XT
GPU Core Clock
Intel: 506 MHz - AMD 830 MHz
Memory Clock
Intel: 513 MHz - AMD 900 MHz
In summary, the overclocked Intel based system is forced to compete with an overclocked AMD based system with twice as much memory and twice as many GPU's and the GPU's are overclocked. Not to mention it is a memory based benchmark that will take advantage of AMD's HT, the extra memory, and the extra overclocked GPUs. Let's configure a similar Intel based system and we may have something worth talking about.
Snow
On the positive side, fewer customers and a more focused sales force. Potentially, better demand forecasting.
Snow
Ah finally, the smoking gun! See Intel is anti-competitive and is severly harming consumers. ;) Damn, from 50 cpu's to one with better performance.
Snow
Elmer,
Mas took the blue pill a long time ago, there's no chance for him to escape The Matrix now. Long live AMD!
Snow
mas,
I remember Intel providing a ton of benchmarks for C/M/W prior to launch last summer. Did you forget already or were you sleeping during class?
Snow
You must have been asleep when they quite easily cut 3 large billion dollar investment deals in the last year.
So AMD's willing to tell the market when they're cutting billions of dollars in investment deals but not willing to be open about the performance of their next gen CPU three weeks prior to it's release? I think you're the only one who really thinks there's going to be some miraculous upside surprise when Barcelona launches. If there is, I'll eat crow. If not, many on this board and the INTC board are going to be all over you.
Snow
You don't have a big launch lined up and then leak *all* the numbers before. Patience grasshopper .
You do if you want to build confidence, attract investors, and keep this from happening.
http://finance.yahoo.com/charts#chart9:symbol=amd;range=1m;indicator=volume;charttype=line;crosshair...
Providing last minute surprises (positive or negative) simply adds risk to the investment and AMD isn't in a situation where they can afford to loose investors (they need all the cash they can get).
Snow
Don't ask me, I don't short.
Snow
But speculation about WiMAX increased substantially after Intel invested about $600 million into another operator founded by cellular pioneer Craig McCaw called Clearwire earlier this summer. Following the move, analysts like Meron believed the decision to fortify Clearwire, the second-largest holder of radio spectrum in the 2.5 GHz band, heavily influenced Sprint toward the WiMAX camp by creating a logical roaming partner.
Wow, if true, that's some pretty damn good strategic thinking by someone at Intel. I wish I were that savvy.
Snow
Yep, picked up some shares on the dip this week and $28 is my next exit point.
Snow
LOL, I'd love to see Chipguy and Mas on Jerry Springer... :)
Snow
Duke,
Are you sure? According to Comcast's web site, the fastest solution they offer is 8 Mbps with a burst of upto 12 Mbps. Do they offer something special in your area?
