a patent application has been filed for ANAVEX PLUS which, if granted, would provide protection until 2033. It is in the paragraph at top of the message board
If you get a chance check this out....looks like they are finding a common link between AD and MS for the first time showing there actually is a process of similar cell death. www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/318580.ph
Nice article, interesting stuff, thanks flash
Nothing wrong with trading as long as you aren't posting FUD for personal gain..At the end of the day you either have character or you don't right? You should be able to look at yourself in the mirror and be comfortable saying I'm honest, and caring, not a snake in the grass....As far as AVXL, yeah the short term has been silent and that is frustrating at times but I think it's an unfair opinion to attack the CEO for his silence until you know why it's occurring...maybe his silence is best for the company and maybe you might do the same thing if you knew what he knows....I know I would feel awefully silly if I'm bagging on the guy who ends up curing one or more of these terrible diseases....so It would probably be best to hold comments until after the cards are on the table because you know what they say about assuming things...I'm not saying don't be aware, but don't prematurely attack....we have quarterly reports around the corner so news at that time will most likely occur and we have a definate news situation in sept. At an event which looks to me to be important based on the info we already know....and 3 trials to be talked about most likely at that sept. Event but maybe eluded to earlier.
Hey Guys, back from vacation, looks like I missed a lot of manipulation moves, and a few positive additions to the Anavex team and no negative news, so that is good...I wouldn't worry so much about opinions, usually 90% irrelevant and 10% important; everyone sees an abstracted painting differently, what matters is how you see it...Most people can feel an earthquake and know it's happening without a seismologist opinion....AVXL has great promise and the fundamental cell science looks solid, along with a ton of supporting scientific papers and no opposing papers that I'm aware of...therefore, supporting the homeostasis theory. Then you look at the failures associated with targeting the plaque, and it doesn't take a lot of imagination to see which direction science should be heading in this arena...I always appreciate contrarian points of view but in this case I Trust 6 opinions more than my own or focusing on statistics questioning one graph in a small study which wasn't even designed to show efficacy but did show strong evidence that we should be excited to see a P3 start....1.) head Dr. of Alzheimer's journal who thinks AVXL is on to something,2.) institutional ownership increasing dramatically, 3.) well respected Dr's (BOD) and other researching Dr's who want to be associated with this theory,4.) FDA (plenty of statisticians employed there) who allowed patent coverage and are currently involved in designing a study with AVXL,5.) a lack of any credible Dr's opposing AVXL's theory/pipeline and 6.) above all else the patients who are asking to continue on the drug and don't want to stop the trial after a substantial amount of time elapse....if that's placebo then all have the blue pill too... (speaks volumes)...hope all is good.
Plexrec, I definately think your concerns are valid...I'm a doctor myself and so I have had the privilege and the pains of dealing with doctors all the way through school....what I have
Learned about them is they are all type A personalities, fixate on the future more than the present, are smart and are endlessly consumed by the thirst
For knowledge; but there motivations differ and can be sub catergorized sub types 1.) the introverted wizard who gets grades, sets the curve and no one knows it but is driven by understanding truth and aren't driven by money because there currency is enlightenment...2.) the outspoken look at me guy who needs the attention to justify his existence and there by is flashy(needs money) because he was probably shoved in a trash can when he was in high school and needs to prove to everyone including himself he isn't a deusche bag 3.) quiet, soft spoken people pleaser who cares about the outcome of every case, researches everything, wants money but isn't driven by money. So why would you have a quiet period if our doctor is type 1 or 3 (definately not 2)....because either you are coming to grips with an error (in which case you are hiding out not going to Wimbledon) and trying to rationalize it, or you have figured out the answer and your trying to make sure it is correct before you put your reputation on the line. I think it is most likely the second because human nature is very predictable, thus if he was stressed by his decisions he would not be seeking social time, and because the recent FDA hire, financial positioning and announcement of the sept. Talk, which is typical of a company getting ready to expand, not shrink...but that's my two cents....and pennies are cheap these days.
I think it is unfair to point the finger at the CEO and give him shit until we understand fully the quiet period...so far all of the decisions by our CEO have always lead to a stronger company in the long run...I do think everyone sending an email to politely inquire about our position is justified but I don't think we can lynch the captain for deciding to turn the boat in a different direction until we know the bigger picture...this will may take a bit of time; you never know...If and when he finally talks we find out he has been playing ping pong this whole time then give him shit, but if we find out he has being quiet because he is waiting for a perfect sniper shot then the ends justify the means...
100% agree amigo, all of your points are legit, but at the same time it is an exciting time...I see it like the gold rush...a few miners took a risk and found the gold hidden in the hills of the sierra mountains and it took months/years for this to be spread across the land...then a massive population of miners realized the same thing of the few and came to join the gold rush...point is, the few will always exist before there are the many....we just have to be patient.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I've heard nothing but good things about the character and intelligence of AVXL's CEO...And It's my understanding the BOD is for the most part equally respected in the medical community....so Unless they all have decided to pick this time in their lives to become sleezy and corrupt, then it's my belief you have to interpret their silence with their character. This would mean if their character is what we all think it is, then the silence is a very positive thing...this would mean they have something important but we have to be patient. Remember, governments are involved and are starting to press for future solutions (Dr. M has many Washington contacts)/New FDA rules which are being implemented .i.e. Slowing down the normal process of things, MTA with Biogen (which hasn't come out negative yet), placement of a poison pill to help protect against hostile take over, large financial institutions are significantly increasing their positions despite no major news yet, recent hires usually don't happen (FDA hire recently) for no reason, the big companies around us have pipelines falling apart left and right, we have the company stating we have multiple trials starting soon, the pills are now ready for trial starts, stating on their website, ANAVEX™ 2-73 is an orally available drug candidate that restores cellular homeostasis by targeting sigma-1 and muscarinic receptors (bold statement if they don't believe in their own product), very strong preclinical info., and p2 steps proving safety but at same time being highly suggestive of positive efficacy in a group of patients were I just don't see how you can have a placebo effect in, and you have caregivers and patients requesting to continue on the medication(which speaks volumes). There is no reason to jump ship short of unfounded fear tactics...Stay on the train until the year is over or something real negative comes out...and if by the end of the year there is still no explanations or reasoning given; then you can whistle a different tune...otherwise, don't stop believing says journey!
Just curious, not meant to be a poke or anything but honestly Amateur, are you invested in AVXL? I'm not quite sure I understand your position? I don't think I have ever read a positive post from you? So either you love AVXL like the guy who heckled wild thing in the movie major league or your just hear to spread FUD...which one is it? I appreciate DD and different perspectives but what exact is yours and why do you continue to hang around AVXL if your so critical when we aren't even in P3 yet?
Don't worry, thinking s are happening, it is obvious, just happening slower than most want because there are many layers to this onion...the big investors have been increasing there positions from 2% to over 25% institutional ownership and growing...you have Dr.M confirming the pills are ready for the trials. Respected Alzheimer's journal is clearly impressed with the efficacy of a small trial not even really designed to show efficacy. You have care givers and patients wanting to continue the use of the drug (obviously they think it's helping). A well respected CEO and BOD....we have backing from major charity like MJ Fox, etc. there is a big talk scheduled in sept. To cover CNS partnering and or path to come...Along with multiple trials to start and every other company around us failing miserably...what else do you want besides trial confirmation to start here shortly...use common sense, it will get you farther in life than book knowledge most of the time, even though book knowledge is important.
With all due respect, I think your focusing to much on the minor details in the situation a little to much...In many circumstances it is important, but in some circumstances it keeps you from seeing the bigger picture I believe and we all are victim of it at times....even if you assume worst case scenario in regards to the drop outs, you can't over look that in a study designed to confirm safety and individuals on varying doses...there is a clear positive efficacy response in the remainder of patients...and the likelihood of all of them being misdiagnosed is very unlikely. You have to remember no drug has ever stabilized this horrible disease for more than 6 months and usually we are still seeing cognitive decline....even the head of Alzheimer's journal said the same thing...just my two cents, but there is something real in AVXL and P3 will confirm IMO
If it is true he is going to the Wimbledon I find it interesting...why is he in London? Most likely not just to watch tennis only, I would be interested to see who is sitting in the seat next to him...any way we can find that out? Haha
Isn't there a huge tax incentive/benefit also if we tackle Rhett's first?I want to say there were special rules for the rare disease stuff in regards to tax law... I could be mistaken though
Flying albatross, sorry to bug ya, but was that the exact verbiage used or a summary of feed back from the phone call you had? Just curious...have a good one
The Emerging Picture of Early Alzheimer’s Disease: Interactive Case Discussion and Implications for Clinical Practice
Tuesday, July 18 | 6 – 9 p.m.
Grange St Paul’s Hotel, Wren & Shakespeare Room, 10 Godliman Street, London
This symposium centers on a patient case to illustrate how the current understanding of early Alzheimer’s disease (AD) translates into clinical practice. You will be invited to interact with the faculty on key topics, such as cognitive assessment, diagnostic biomarker tools, and clinical management of early AD.
Sponsored by: Biogen
Looks like Biogen will be presenting...what do you guys make of this title, potential for name dropping?
Sorry to hear, In regards to the pills being produced and ready to go? Thanks
Basparks, thanks for the update, when/where did you hear this info...? Sounds like we are real close to a start...and it's an indication to me it's going to happen like we all have been talking about. Exciting stuff!
I have been on the board a relatively short time but I have followed all of your posts for quite sometime...for the past year I have come to look forward to new insight from posters like Falconer, Jimmy, and Tom... I also like hearing the contraian point of view from time to time; but I feel with this particular stock it is much different. You have to view its development through the eyes of the new FDA. You have to apply old approaches loosely.
Is the science confirmed yet ? No that is for phase 3 which is being set up; however, when you see that the receptors are the same and the mechanism has stayed so consistent through out mammalians...and the nervous systems of mice and men are so similar....then you test it in humans and find there are no major safety issues and in fact we are seeing it show efficacy despite being on non optimal dosing; you have to be excited to see what's next right? This is were the educated man puts together the dots and decides this is a calculated risk which highly favors a good outcome....so if you wait until every conclusive study is ran and it's confirmed then you will miss out on the train ride....there is always a leap of faith in all decisions you make, but if you don't ever take one, you will never really experience the ride....
Listen to the Noble presentation again if you haven't already, Dr. M clearly states sigma 1 receptors have stayed unchanged in all mammalian species....this to me means the preclinical info. And the small group study Results are much more significant/predictive then one might intitally think based on an overview of the science...I.e. If this receptor has stayed unchanged then there is a high probability you would expect to see the same response In a human as you would a mouse...(less variation=out come more predictable) IMO... hope all is well, have a good one.
Extremely bullish zig would you be so kinda as to extrapolate on post 111115 I think it is...about the plus patent...? Thanks
AVXL is ran by sound leaders, who are as driven and passionate about this new direction in science as many of us. The company's financial foundation is solid...As far as I'm aware no major sell offs of shares by any of these leaders is occurring right? If this is to be true, then the silence is golden. I.E. if the ship was sinking and they new it, wouldn't they be the first to the life boat? A company doesn't hire big names with specific niche abilities if they are about to shrink; rather, they do this typically in preparation for expansion. As far as I know, most expansion is not negative....Most likely, the government is involved on some level as this is fairly obvious due to recent hires and trial design aligning with FDA agenda...so as it is with anything the government might be associated with, it will take longer, and will most likely wait until it will have maximum effect. I.E. if we have the best cookie in the jar then many hands will attempt to get in that jar. Dr. is known to be a class act and as such we should presume his decisions are as well; until he gives me reason to believe otherwise, then I can only conclude his silence is golden.
Try a thought experiment....as if you were Dr. M...and then piece together the info. We already know about the company and drug....and the answer in my opinion leads us to why we are silent, in a positive way. You have a drug which we know is rock solid for Insomnia most likely...why wouldn't you pursue it?
Jimmy, thanks for your kind words posted a few days prior....I feel compelled to give you my opinion as to why I am a believer in Anavex...even though you know what they say about opinions...I was drawn to Anavex because of 4 primary things...1.) the man leading our company fits the likeness of a George Washington and the men who surround him as well, in their belief systems, passion and drive 2.) AVXL is financially responsible as a company, even though some might debate me on this point in regards to PR stuff but I tend to believe the opposite 3.) the tutes and larger charities are also involved which tells more than words... 4.) when you see the faces of the individuals in the trial look as happy as they looked, "placebo" or whatever, we are on to something big...This company has a bright future and I feel like the year is 1777 and things are just about to blossom. Happy fourth all.
It appears you guys are comparing apples to oranges...day trading is far different than long term trading...because if you were a long term trader you would have made excillent returns on AVXL relative to investing in blue chip stocks...especially in the arena of biotech were money is lost all the time. Two different trading styles so unless you specify what camp your in, then making a sweeping comment has no merit. I.E. what's dead money to you in the short term has been amazing returns for others in the long term. Ps life is poker and generally speaking weak is strong and strong is weak...and I would rather be betting on Dr. M's cards because he isn't overplaying his hand; which means, he has a great hand and is now figuring out how to suck out as many chips as possible from the other plays on the table.
I am new to this board but I have been following you all for a long time now; and what I have come to notice is regardless of being long or short, no one ever questions Dr. M's character. It is a small detail, yet speaks volumes about the man and his direction as a leader. This tells me with the exception of some wild scenario you can take the good Dr. at face value....I.e. If he makes a Statement then at the very least he believes what he is telling us right (after all we are all human)? This being the case, a noble man would not intentionally mislead people because a noble man cares about his reputation and honor amongst his peers; and needs to beable to look himself in the mirror each and everyday. So if we all agree he is a man of character and science, then by default he would not continue on a set course if he knew the end point wasn't defined by noble parameters. This tells me, silent or not, his continued journey and overall intentions to P3 trials must be validated both scientifically and ethically within his scope of logic and reasoning because of the character of the man making the decision. Thus, if his heart is pure like everyone seems to believe, then his interpretations at this juncture must also be pure. This means get on the train until there is a valid reason to get off, or we reach our destination.
