Anyone have a response to the post by Shad on the RB board (#209866) basically saying, if I read it correctly, that a gte office in Germany is not really an office at all? He has been in this stock a long time and I find this disconcerting to say the least.
Myself and perhaps others are referring to self disclosed things gte said were in the works, on the horizon, near completion etc. Call it what you will enough of these have been unfulfilled to cause some investors to question gte and its' management. If it is due to external forces beyond their control then gte needs to allow for these possible delays in throwing out timelines etc. Like Danielle said, the proof is in signed contracts and completion of deals promised etc. I have a substantial amount of money riding on the outcome and am so far a bit disillusioned but hanging in there.
I'm not sure having a reason always excuses failing to do something. Every undone homework assignment I ever got from a student had a "reason" associated with it. Very few were real excuses for not doing the work. Some of GTE's missed deadlines etc. might be understandable but I'm not certain that has always been the case. (O.T. nerd: I sent you an email fwiw)
nerd: sage advice to greg with an almost zen-like quality about it. I seem to recall you saying that success in golf has escaped you. It's hard to believe with such insight that this great game hasn't captured your imagination and become an endeavor that you do well. It does take a good deal of time practicing, however, and is not for everyone. At any rate it's been a good day for gte longs, hopefully we'll see more of the same. I always enjoy your slant on things and your civility in presenting it.
justfrank: I like the baseball analogy r.e. gte. I'm not sure they have even left the on-deck circle, as yet, however. Almost like the guy who keeps telling us what a great hitter he is and how far he can hit the ball but hasn't stepped up to the plate and taken any cuts against live pitching. Maybe gte will be like the second coming of AAron or Ruth or Bonds but the world now needs to see it to believe it. Until then it's talk. I hope gte hits for the cycle and soon because the fans (myself included) are getting restless.
I'm with ya on this one nerd. Sibylle was quick to talk about the progress being made in Colombia during a phone conversation I had with her back in late Dec. of last year (during a GTE price meltdown). I have expected significant news on projects in that country and/or S. Amer. ever since.....nada. Now would be a good time!
griff100: If I may jump in on the DHB delisting. I held that company for several years and watched it go from 3.28 to 22.00 and back down. Many of DHB's problems seemed to stem from the arrogance of the namesake David H. Brooks, who just stepped aside. IMO and from what was alleged some time ago, he used the company money as if it were his own, spending it on lavish trips etc. Even had a $10 million batmitzvah (sp?) for his 13 year old daughter last year. Eventually they had some failures with one of their products, which mainly were bullet-proof protective vests used by the military. As for the actual cause of the delisting, I guess I can't really say for sure. Not much help in answering your original question....Many bad memories for me on that stock due to my own inability to not sell when I had a huge profit (kind of like another company I'm invested in, lol)
Vern, truth be told, do you honestly wish good things for gte or do you hope they fall flat on their face? I have my suspicions but would like to hear it from you.
The best thing about the delay has been the scantilly clad brunettee who keeps popping up on my computer screen, advertising some singles club. Anyone else getting this tantalizing pop-up? I'm thinking of making her my screen saver but the mrs. might not like it (lol).
irishace: Good advice! Already done both. I used to practice more than I do now which has been know to help (lol).
This stock has given me the "Investment Yips". Which has cost me more than the golf "Yips" ever did (lol).
Agreed. There definitely ought to be an audio tape available for those who didn't attend the SHM. We shall see.
You're probably correct about the CIC thing being a joke. Not sure that helps the cause but it does help pass the time, I suppose. Thanks griff100.
Interesting reading. Has anyone ever heard of the Central Intelligence Center (CIC)? I did a quick Google search to no avail.
P.S. This is not meant to question Grapes but rather the source of this listing.
After listening to Tim's Cowen presentation I was duly impressed with what he had to say and with his vision for GTE. My concern is, how many of what he seemed to speak of as already up and running projects are, in fact, yet to be implemented? It seems to me as though the lines between reality and the vision are sometimes blurred. If you were to ask me for specifics I'm not sure I could give examples, but it seems we know so little about the actual working products, cards, and services being offered by GTE, and the revenues they are generating, as so much attention is paid to what may someday be (i.e. the Strat., etc.) I think sometimes Tim speaks of them as one in the same.
I know the company is evolving and has the potential to do great things, but after 1 1/2 years I'm still not sure I can differentiate between what is real and what is proposed or envisioned for the future. I hope the next few weeks can clear some of this up.
Thanks housedad, I figured as much. Sorry if I seemed to be over-reacting or confrontational, that was not my intent. The part about valuing your posts very much still stands. GLTAL
msturgeo: If no proxy statements have been printed, much less distributed, I would say someone was not being truthful. Sounds pretty cut and dried to me. While I have paid particular attention to housedads' posts believing him to have some valuable insights on several fronts, this would clearly taint his reputation and, I feel, calls for a response or clarification of some kind from him IMHO.
R.e. Raphael: FWIW he also claims to run a business dealing in music boxes (www.musicaltreasuresofmiami.com) He could possibly be contacted thirough his website. His other posts do suggest he has been a fairly longterm investor and does drop by GTE office fairly regularly. Hope this helps. Go GTE!
I posed a question in another (now deleted) post wondering why there wasn't any mention of Colombia in Mr. Bleckman's email. The reason I find this curious is because Sibylle specifically mentioned the progress being made there during a call I placed to her in late Dec. Anyone know what has come of gte's efforts in that part of the world? I usually, tho infrequently, post on the RB board but didn't want to invite a lot of bashing r.e. this but I am very curious, if anyone knows. tia
Nice post, thank you for taking the time to put it together. I couldn't agree more that we need to step back and look at the big picture and be patient as this story plays out. Unfortunately, in the meantime the extremists/alarmist/shorts/get-rich-quick guys on both sides of the aisle will rant on in an effort to move the stock price to their advantage. Your comments, and Huff's for that matter, sound like you both are realists who are used to dealing with real problems getting solved in the real world while avoiding any serious hiccups. We would all have liked it if gtel unveiled a fully completed product ready for immediate transfer to Edwards and with an FAA good-to-go approval to do so. Unfortunately things don't usually work that way. Hopefully, when it does happen it will have been well worth the wait... I for one believe it will be.
Bravo, and again thanks.
