This logistic is easily overcome. They could be handed out as passengers enter the plane off a handtruck. They are supposed to be lighter than the bigger IFE systems currently used and much cheaper.
If they did have a cable to each player, the digEplayer could handle, satellite TV, satellite radio, and the new HDTV networks, etc. Let's say they were passed out upon entering the plane; the passenger takes then to his seat; and then he slides it into a sleeve or harness. Next, he plugs in a wire to the back of the seat, much the same as the head phones are pluged in to the side of the arm rest. The sky is the limit on this little jewel!
I know the digEplay is portable, but is there any reason it couldn't be secured on a seat back by slinding into a sleeve of some kind?
Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
COLD & WET this morning, kind of a post holiday hangover morning where you REALLY don't want to get up and go to work! Since I am not employed outside of my home and I don't drink, I have no reason NOT to stay in bed; therefore, I want to get up and get this stock market open. It's so neat living on the left coast because the market opens at 6:30 am, but here on the right coast, it takes forever! I need to join a health club and go workout, early, before the market opens. ORY
Good morning Diggers! Add wet to cold and now you've got the picture of the So. Carolina coast this morning. My sister in the Portland area in Oregon was able to work in her yard yesterday---I sure wish I could. It's 45 degrees and raining. Richard and I saw 17 brown pelicans down by the docks in Calabash this week; we eat breakfast at a little hole-in-the-wall cafe where the fishermen come in from sea. Last week I was busy spending my money (in my dreams) from my EDIG stock, but this week ..... We got through Friday without our PPS falling badly. If we are to get a couple of announcements per month, we might expect one in 2 weeks. Meanwhile, it's back to the BIG WAIT.
Morning, Diggers! Or should I say, "Mourning Diggers!" I couldn't get any of the umpteen computers in our house to work with sound, so I had to wait to read Parker's fast report of the Webcast last night. RP has used the term "home runs" to describe the potential of the deals EDIG is making these days; so, no one here will mind if I bring up a short story I remember from high school back in the 1950s. There's this place called Mudville, if I remember right, which it all excited about its baseball team. A number of details about the weather, the team, the town and the record of the team's best batter are given. The play of the game starts, and we get already for the BIG Hit. The excitement is in the air; everyone is expecting a home run. Casey has one last chance with 3 balls and 2 strikes against him. Casey strikes out!____________ Everyone here is a little let down, except for our resident bashers, who are having a field day; and, except for the guys who will pick up additional shares during our "dead money days" coming up. The news wasn't so bad, but we didn't expect the F-10 to be put on hold, and we hoped for new news on our IFE. The news that a million TGE players with our tech in them will be out there this summer---later---soon, doesn't satisfy us much either. Not even a 1/2 million dollars in deferred sales makes us happy. What we wanted was positive news on all fronts! We got what we got, which probably won't pop our price per share; we'll do a little Monday morning quarter-backing; pick ourselves up, and start all over again! LOL...........I don't know about what the temperature is in Mudville, but it's cold, almost freezing in Myrtle Beach, So. Carolina, on the Intracoastal Waterway this morning. ORY
Morning Diggers, Cold and wet in So. Carolina; a front moved in from Georgia for our webcast day. We are all hoping our revenue numbers for last quarter aren't so bad that the price goes back to .42 or lower. When our stock price jumped from .42 to .62 (almost a 50% gain) while I was in Las Vegas for the CES, it sure felt good! Maybe, just maybe, we'll get a really BIG announcement of new business today. I'm surprised the stock price has not reflected this anticipation the last couple of days. It's a wait and see deal. Ory
Yes, it's time to start writing and saying it correctly. Honest to God, I thought it was inter, not intra. Just shows how little I know. We just got back from breakfast on the Intracoastal at Little River at the fishing marina. We saw 17 brown pelicans in the marsh along with a kazillion Snowy Egrets and twenty-five kazillion gulls. Thanks captb for the correction! Ory
Good Morning Diggers! Not quite so cold on the South Carolina coast this morning---at least no ice. One day Tasha and I were able to walk on the beach this week and not get blown off. The City of North Myrtle Beach has strange beach laws which allow dogs (on leash) on the beach in the Winter any time, then between 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 6 P.M. and 10 P.M. the rest of the year. We built a new house on the Intercoastal Waterway and we are getting a permit for a dock. I'm going to have to find out if Tasha can swim or she'll have to have doggie lifesaver gear. Did anyone see the dogs on CNBC at the Westminster Dog Show in NYC that's being held in NYC?
Waiting for news and the Webcast on Thursday. Guess my big fear is that the last quarter's revenues are so bad, that they take the PPS down no matter what the good news is. My other emotional anticipation is that the good news far out weighs the rev. figures and the PPS goes up. Both of these ideas reside in my gut at the same time, but the latter is just a bit stronger than the former. Hanging on and slowly adding more shares. ORY your misplaced Oregon Duck.
Thanks, again. I didn't know we could get L2 quotes right here; it's great! Ory
Thanks, Joe
Could someone give me a level 2 quote. I'm trying to buy this morning, but I'm not getting filled. AND, there sure isn't much in the way of volume this a.m. ORY
Good morning Diggers. Cold and crisp on the South Carolina coast this morning-I'm tired of the cold. It warmed up a little yesterday afternoon and I was out in shirt sleeves planting two flats of pansies. When I came in late yesterday afternoon and read the PR, I almost jumped for joy. I have two very successful children who think my investment strategy leaves a lot to be desired here. I immediately shot off Emails showing the potential that is beginning to "come of age!" I'm not sure if we are on the radar screen yet; we'll see today if the price goes through 63 cents. What is important here is not how many of these units sell, but rather what it can do for the movie industry. This is truly a big deal! I'm hoping hacks don't come up with a way to break into our diggies. Misplaced Oregonian--ORY
Level II quote?
Wrong. India, too!
MH, Why isn't it?
Fred, this was a trial deal--there may be a better way to handle the logistics. That's all I'm saying. One of the new bigger airlines will try to deal with the diggies in a different way.
I didn't say that at all. I'm talking about the logistics of reserving one and where I'd pick up the digEplayer. If it's to be used while waiting for a plane in the airport, as well as in the plane, a well thought out plan is needed. The planning of the logistics is going on now. Some how I don't see the flight attendants handing them out, but rather being picked up at the gate similar to how the DVD rentals are handled.
Anybody up and at 'em this morning?
Good morning Ediggers where ever you are. May the Nordic God Thor quit blowing his icy winds upon you and upon me! I am tired of this Winter and all the cold weather. A nice PR from eDigital could cheer me this week. According to the Agora board last night, APS is finding an airline service provider to service the digEplayers. Apparently, the logistics of checking them for cleanliness, need of repair, and of loading new programming every two or three weeks has not been worked out. If they cost $1000 each, there would also be a problem of hanging on to them--people might forget to turn them in (both intentionally and unintentionally)! Personally, I like the business model that's in place now with the little hand held portable videos that are rented at one airport and turned in at your destination. On the other hand, they aren't very convenient; when I'm running through airports to get to my gate, I don't ever have time to stop and rent a movie. Ory
3 cent spread???What gives?
I wonder who their first customer was?? More from the last site I posted. "“Ittiam’s proven expertise in creating high-performance, cutting edge digital video solutions for DSP systems makes them an excellent partner to help DivXNetworks meet the overwhelming global demand for DivX Certified CE devices,” said Shahi Ghanem, president and chief operating officer at DivXNetworks, Inc. (www.divxnetworks.com). “Millions of DivX users around the world are anxiously awaiting the release of DivX Certified devices and CE manufacturers are rushing to meet this demand in time for the holiday season. Our partnership with Ittiam will help ensure that CE manufacturers can create high-quality DivX powered solutions in the fastest possible timeframe. In fact, we already have the first customer for this partnership.”"
EDIG + Ittiam + DivX + TI = create reference designs for the future. "Software Licensing Model
Ittiam Systems (Bangalore) is well-positioned to tap this market. Started by the ex-CEO of TI India, Ittiam focuses on DSP, has licensed MPEG-4 technology to global companies and is presently collaborating with DivXNetworks to bring DVD-quality video to consumer electronics and portable devices by year end.
The company is following the software licensing model for H.264, and customizes standard profiles to specific product requirements. Its initial strategy is to create a solution with competitive MIPS, memory and level of integration as a system (e.g. H.264 + AAC playback from file formats, streaming client etc) both on the decoding and encoding sides.
Ittiam has an internally developed H.264 baseline profile and mainline profile decoder. The mainline decoder has been ported to TI's C64x processor. According to Sriram Sethuraman, senior technologist, the final target processor will be TI's DM642, which integrates many peripherals in addition to the C64x core while lowering chip cost to about US$45."
More from the Ittiam site: "According to Rohit Bhuva, Vice President Business Development, Ittiam Systems, "The goal of Ittiam's 802.11 offering, a 20-plus man-year, multi-million dollar investment, is to shrink our customer's time-to-market by more than a year. It's tailor-made for semiconductor companies that are getting into the wireless LAN chip-set market and for companies that are embedding wireless LAN technology or its proprietary variants into their larger systems. Spectrum's implementation falls into the latter category," he added.
Spectrum Signal Processing's choice of Ittiam's technology in the face of multiple solutions currently available worldwide is a significant recognition of the singular focus and of the rapid progress made by Ittiam Systems since its inception three years ago.
About Ittiam
Ittiam Systems Private Limited, headquartered in Bangalore, is a technology product company singularly focussed on digital signal processing systems in media and communication. The company operates through its network of offices and representatives around the world. Ittiam's customers include Fortune 100 companies and are distributed across U.S., Europe, Japan and Asia. For more details, visit www.ittiam.com."
Go to Ittiam's web site and see the picture. Here's the site http://www.ittiam.com
Let's look at Ittiam. Our technoloy is already in this company's product, according to Walter at the CES.
"Ittiam sets sights on becoming India's DSP leader
http://www.eet.com/story/OEG20030527S0045
BANGALORE, India When Ittiam Systems was started in 2001 by
half-a-dozen top executives from Texas Instruments (India), it was
one of the first, companies here to focus exclusively on DSPs. A few
companies like Encore Systems, Dacs Software and Wipro Ltd. have
worked on DSP technology while spending most ot their time writing
application software.
Hence, Ittiam stands out in India's technology landscape, and the
startup found itself getting boost when its first product, an MPEG4
video decoder, was licensed to Sony Semiconductor in Europe. The
decoder has since been widely licensed and forms the basis of larger
system-level offerings from Ittiam such as video-over-wireless, media
players, digital recorders and digital video cameras.
Unlike other companies here, Ittiam does not offer pure-play
services, focusing instead on custom products. Here, the
specification-level intellectual property is owned by the customer
instead of being licensed to them, and Ittiam's IP comes in at
implementation stage. A wireless communication application for Kromos
Communications Inc. (Fremont, Calif.) was Ittiam's first custom
product design.
Ittiam's focus is on DSP systems for media processing and
communication, including digital video, wireless LANs and voice-over-
IP. It will add two more products soon. Based on customer feedback,
Srini Rajam, Ittiam's chairman and chief executive and former head of
TI's Indian operations. claimed the it is among the top five
companies in each of the three product areas.
Unlike global DSP companies with development centers in India and
whose focus is on developing core products and tools, Ittiam focuses
on systems and applications. Its product line covers software on DSP
and co-processor in DSP systems, reference designs for DSP-based
systems and other components and soft cores for signal processing IP
and products. Applications focused on communication (wireline and
wireless) and multimedia (video imaging and audio speech). "We find
that there is more interest in system designs and core designs,"
Rajam said.
Ittiam has garnered crucial design wins in wireless, video, speech
and audio both at component and system level in Europe, Asia and the
U.S. Its current customer list includes more than 20 OEM and
semiconductor companies including Fortune 500 companies. Ittiam
declined to identify its customers.
Ittiam has about 28 products, including a WLAN product line (802.11
b/a/g) and the VOIP signal processing suite that offer the highest
revenue potential. Long term, its digital video line would yield the
most cumulative revenues through royalties.
Rajam said WLANs and the V.92 voice band modem were the toughest to
execute. "In case of WLAN, it was the sheer magnitude, complexity
and range of comptetency that were needed to put the entire IP
together. To make it even more challenging, the time available to
make the product happen was just around a year. In the case of V.92
modems, the difficulty was in the complexity of making 48 kbps data
upstream mode work robustly and in making the modem interoperate with
all commercially available V.92 modems," he said.
Products Ittiam has licensed to global companies include a VoIP
signal processing suite including telephony functions and echo
canceller to ARC International plc (Elstree, England), VoIP voice
processing codecs to Texas Instruments, software system for a
tapeless digital camcorder to Premier Image Technology Corp., a
leading elecronics OEM in Taiwan, and video and image codecs to Veo
(San Jose, Calif.).
The business climate has changed since Ittiam's launch. "The
environment today is more difficult when it comes to attracting
customers [and] business deals take longer to sign," Rajam said.
Still, the company expects to break even in the next year.
Ittiam has launched a subsidiary company. Ittiam Semiconductor, to
focus on system-on-chip designs in association with Silicon
Laboratories Inc. (Austin, Texas). Their focus will beon SOC designs,
including mixed-signal SOC designs for wireline communications."

I'm not sure you know what you're talking about!
JoJo usually lets out her PRs just after 11 am (according to another poster). Guess there'll be nothing today.
Walter was in the Texas Instrument booth showing off our technology in the Indian product. There was one available for Walter to demo.
Jet Blue is an interesting story. On the left coast we had a neat little upstart airline called Reno Air. They flew into less expensive airports (San Jose and Oakland instead of San Francisco) and passed the savings along to the passengers. I could fly from Portland to Reno or to Las Vegas for much less than on United or Alaska Air on the same routes (good prices to Pheonix, too). Reno Air got bought up by Alaska, I think; Bye, bye cheap fares. It must be a cut throat business in the air. So far I don't see a business model that will pay APS, DigitalWay and us. I understand wanting to get our DigEplayers out, but if the airlines don't pay anything, where are the advertising dollars going to come from?
I had a post about a Canadian connection in regards to a post by Danl on Agora this evening. I've gone back to try to locate it, but it's gone. Do the moderators of this board remove posts related to an important topic?
Here's the site. The word Aroon is Sanskrit for day to night, night to day.
http://www.paritech.com/education/technical/indicators/trend/aroon.asp
Is there a site that explains these kind of esoteric technicals?
What makes you think so?
Thanks, Arkie, it doesn't look significant when I look at your chart. I looked at it on my site, bigcharts.com, but didn't see anything either. Just hoping! Ory
Technical question? Won't there be a little dojii on our stock today? Ory
Note the price---$500!
Good morning from South Carolina--cold and dry here. My new house is drying out and small cracks around the molding and the walls are proliferating. Our recently planted palm trees might not make it in this weather. But then I think of Trillium where it's really cold, and I'm glad I'm in the "warm" South.
I've been thinking alot about how hard it is for companies to get a winning formula to make money. It's not just little companies, either. Apple hasn't always been the shining star it is today. If Bill Gates hadn't pumped money into it a few years ago, I'm not sure if it would have survived. Two years ago as I stood in line at the Las Vegas MGM Grand Hotel's arena for Bill Gates CES kick off address, the Apple IPod had just been introduced. A young techie and I were discussing it; he said it would be a winner. I told him about EDIG and our player. He shook his head and said small companies can't complete with the likes of Apple. Since that time companies like iRiver, had started up and picked up huge market shares proving my techie wrong. This morning I get up to read the posts and discover CNET has given us an average rating. I guess I'm a little disappointed that all the t's weren't crossed and the i's weren't dotted before the Gateway player was introduced. "We can fix it with a firmware upgrade" is the new mantra. Oh, well. I'm more focused on the newer products, but had hoped a musicplayer would help our bottom line this year. I still don't think the music players are where our real money will be made. Your displaced Oregonian, Lois
Too bad I sent this stupid Email to JoJO!
"A quick question? In the "slide show" part of the Shareholders Meeting in December, partners were listed. Have the names of our "partners" and/or "licensees" been changed or what I might call "cleaned-up-for viewing" on our web site since the SHM? Some of the old ones were dropped, but some weren't. Are all the names on our new list "current?"
