NEW e LONG, exposure to a major OEM via Hewlett-Packard could just put EDIG on the map...again, but this time with major label branding and money to back up the relationship.
Bodes well for EDIG investors.
And from the EDIG PR regarding Softeq & Hewlett-Packard...
Research into possible new products is already underway."
No. But I will let you read this. See if you can figure out where part of their business model is headed.
Live From CeBit - HP to Release the iPAQ h4000 Series and More
submitted by Brian Thursday, June 19, 2003
Reports are coming in that HP is going to release a new iPAQ during late fall to winter time frame. The iPAQ h4000 series will be on the high-end of the scale and will feature a built in QWERTY keyboard.
The h4000 series will be roughly the eighth PDA released by HP, coming close to Sony's record set last year. It will certainly feature integrated wireless of some sort, most likely WiFi and/or Bluetooth. There is an outside possibility that it will integrate some sort of GPRS connectivity to compete with other "always-on" devices.
At the CES earlier this year, HP told us they were working on an integrated unit with QWERTY keyboard. The h4000 does not appear to be this unit, but may be a serious step in that direction.
The HP iPaq 4000 series will have much the same features as the 5000 series currently such as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth but instead of having the normal look at the bottom of the iPaq we'll see a thumbpad style keyboard. It seems more and more of the device makers are moving in this direction and there is much less emphasis on Graffiti. Indeed, Handspring said today they will not be supporting Graffiiti in the Treo 600.
Some other nuggets of information we received about upcoming HP iPaq devices for next year (2004) is that with the release of Pocket PC 2004 scheduled for Spring 2004 we will see a huge upgrade to both devices and what the OS will support. HP told us that the PDA will essentially become much more like a laptop in its features and abilities. For instance, HP will supply a crade (with future iPaq devices running Pocket PC 2004) called a "Super Cradle" that will allow output from the PDA to a projector or SVGA screen without any special wires, cables or software. The rumored HP SmartPhone flipphone that we heard about in January will not see the light of day this year, but HP does intend to release a phone during the first half of 2004 but they are much less gung-ho about the SmartPhone market now and feel that they can do better and offer more in the handheld market -- marked by the fact we'll see 7 devices released in the next 3 months!

LOL, Semantics cass, that's all this is about. Trying to save face ? Pathetic display, IMO.
Your desperation is a joy to watch though.
There is a direct line and connection between the EDIG-Softeq partnership and Hewlett-Packard in the EDIG-Softeq-Hewlett-Packard business channel, the way I read it, and since they coexist and are related directly to the new business at hand, I don't understand why you get off on ignoring the black and white print from the OFFICIAL company PR.
2 months left and counting...
You apparently don't understand Hewlett-Packard's business model.
RO, so technically, according to some here, Hewlett-Packard
is a mere subcontractor to a major OEM...lol
Oh the SEMANTICS...too too funny.
Thanks for the clarity !
All good things.
cass, please post your DD which verifies your claim that EDIG is a only a subcontractor and nothing more in this relationship with Softeq and Hewlett Packard.
I thought there was a partnership formed and a customer relationship as well, but apparently you have insider information or information I have yet to see.
Can't wait for my DD to be updated.
cass, ignore all offical company PRs and make up your own version.
Bottom line, business is getting done.

Someone having trouble understanding this ?
An early customer of the partnership is Hewlett-Packard, who is working with the companies to explore opportunities for future digital audio products.
"This partnership is an example of HP’s strategy of working with innovative partners," said Robert Corbett, director for Retail Industry Solutions at HP.
Until we hear differently, this is what investors have to go by.
Somebody have something to the contrary to disclose ?

EDIG and Softeq have agreed to form a partnership. An early customer of the PARTNERSHIP is Hewlett-Packard.
Some like to play games and make issues about little subtleties in language but most understand the big picture.
From the official PR:
(SAN DIEGO, CA - February 19, 2003) - e.Digital Corporation (OTC: EDIG) and independent systems integrator Softeq Development Corporation have entered into an agreement to partner on the development of new products for the digital audio market.
The agreement paves the way for the companies to collaborate on the development of products using e.Digital's patented MicroOSTM technology and applying its expertise in portable product design
An early customer of the partnership is Hewlett-Packard, who is working with the companies to explore opportunities for future digital audio products.
No, Hewlett-Packard is EDIG's customer on a project due to be released this month. That article reinforced the fact that HP is stepping up new products for this summer, 7, in fact.
Curious that you don't see the connection. But the cheap shot was expected. Carry on.

Music Merger Talks May Resume
AOL Time Warner and Bertelsmann are expected to renew negotiations.
By Jeff Leeds, Times Staff Writer
Bertelsmann and AOL Time Warner Inc. could return to the bargaining table as early as next week to push toward a potential merger of their recorded-music operations, sources said Thursday.
Senior executives at the two conglomerates are holding internal strategy sessions in anticipation of renewed negotiations, sources at both companies said. Talks to assemble a joint venture chilled earlier this month after Bertelsmann executives said the German media giant wouldn't pursue a purchase of AOL's book-publishing unit.
AOL Time Warner Chairman Dick Parsons, who has been described as "furious" over the book deal's collapse, decided to continue with the music talks after overtures from Bertelsmann Chief Gunter Thielen, according to people close to the discussions. Jeffrey Bewkes, who heads AOL's entertainment group, and Warner Music Group Chairman Roger Ames also pushed to keep pursuing a deal, the sources said.
Both sides have reason to resume talks: the industry's underlying problems — bloated costs and surging piracy — remain. Although Warner and Bertelsmann's Bertelsmann Music Group have enjoyed hot streaks on the pop chart in the last several weeks, U.S. album sales continue to sink after an unprecedented 11% decline last year.
The talks have focused on a deal that would give each parent company a stake in the joint operation.
Sources say consolidating Warner's three major labels with Bertelsmann's three labels would lead to cost cuts totaling hundreds of millions of dollars. A merger also would create a giant with an estimated one-third share of U.S. album sales, rivaling the industry leader, Vivendi's Universal Music Group.
Still, crucial obstacles remain, including issues related to each company's valuation and the management structure of the combined entity. Any deal would have to be approved by antitrust regulators, who in the last three years have frowned on two separate music-label mergers that would have reduced the number of global competitors from five to four. For AOL, the talks come as the company is under pressure to reduce its $20-billion-plus debt load. Apart from the talks with Bertelsmann, AOL is seeking to sell its CD and DVD manufacturing unit for about $1 billion.
Leading Indicators Rise, Lifting Rebound Hopes
Conference Board's index jumps 1% in May, but another report shows manufacturing didn't gain as expected.
By Daryl Strickland, Times Staff Writer
After months of uncertainty, a key indicator of economic expectations surged in May, raising hopes that the economy could be headed for a rebound, the Conference Board reported Thursday.
But another report showed a smaller-than-expected increase in manufacturing activity in the mid-Atlantic region.
And the government said the nation's trade deficit widened to a record level in the first quarter.
The Conference Board said its index of leading economic indicators jumped 1% in May, after a 0.1% rise in April.
The findings were bolstered by the Labor Department, which said that new claims for unemployment benefits fell last week by a seasonally adjusted pace of 13,000 to 421,000 claims, a five-week low.
"This tells us some positive developments are beginning to take shape," Ataman Ozyildirim, an economist at the Conference Board, said of his organization's index. "After two months of increases, there is some hope that economic activity might be picking up later in the year."
The index includes changes in stock prices, manufacturing activity and unemployment. In May, eight of the 10 elements of the index rose.
Still, given many employers' continued lack of confidence in hiring and investment, "It's still too early to tell" whether the U.S. economy has gained significant momentum, Ozyildirim said.
Some analysts were disappointed by the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia's report Thursday of manufacturing activity in the mid-Atlantic area.
Though the bank's index for June rose to 4.0 from negative 4.8 in May — indicating the first month of increased production since February — some economists hoped to see a bigger jump to confirm a strong showing reported earlier in the week for an index of manufacturing activity in New York state.
Analysts also warned that it was too early to say that the latest jobless claims data indicated a turn in the labor market.
"While this is an encouraging development, the latest reading is still high by historical standards, and the pace of unemployment insurance applications will need to decline further in order to signal a stabilization in labor market conditions," Jade Zelnik, economist at RBS Greenwich Capital, said in a report.
Separately, the government said the current account gap, the broadest measure of the nation's trade deficit because it includes investment flows as well as goods and services, totaled a record $136.1 billion in the first quarter, up 6% from the fourth quarter.
The increase was below expectations, but was a reminder of the nation's dependence on foreign capital, analysts said.
The deficit rose in part because of higher prices for imported oil in the quarter, the Commerce Department said.
24601,
the big picture remains that he now has a greater stake in the company and had to use his own funds in order to exercise his options.
He could have let the options expire at no cost to himself since he already has a large position and given us some rationalization but instead he committed more of his own dollars to this investment and in doing so the company instantly raised $50K.
Let's hope he has huge capital gains to pay for the 2003-04 taxable years.
Long term holds will be taxed at 15% under the new tax code, I believe.
Robert Putnam, EDIG's Senior VP, has been with EDIG since '88, just after its inception. I seriously doubt he has any plans to "day trade" out of his recently enhanced position in the 20 cent range, considering the company's current prospects.
EDIG has its proprietary technology in the market under OEM labeling as well as selling its own branded products utilizing the proprietary technology. Next week we should hear more on the Hewlett-Packard deal with IFE and ECLIPSE right around the corner.
The product line has never been more diverse. The name e.Digital is a far better known name today than at any time previous in company history and revenues are projected to continue to increase this quarter and next.
Putnam sells high, not low. He buys low.

Interesting: Underwater music player wins award
Underwater music could make swimming more fun
An underwater digital music player and a hi-tech baby gate are among inventions on show at Brunel University this week.
Showcasing the work of Brunel's final year design and technology students, the inventions promise a wide range of solutions to both practical and social problems.
Students at Brunel's department of Information Systems and Computing have come up with a computer package designed to combat the growing problem of child obesity.
The computer program tests children on their awareness of sensible eating habits and rewards them with computer games if they reach high scores on the test.
Making a difference
This year has some fantastic projects, many of which could make a real difference to our lives
Tim Cribbin, Brunel University
Student Tasneen Sattar has been looking at ways of improving web usability for dyslexic surfers by designing improvements such as colour coded indexes, site maps on the homepage and a browsing history of where a person has visited recently.
And an automated hacker that searches for weak spots in a website and produces a full diagnosis of security problems could prove invaluable for busy firms worried about viruses.
"As in previous years, the show this year has some fantastic projects, many of which could make a real difference to our lives and the way we use IT," said Tim Cribbin, a lecturer at Brunel University and show organiser.
There were also some fun gadgets on show, such as a digital music player that can work underwater.
Improving existing objects
The ultimate in style and comfort? Collapsible stiletto
Student Sam James came up with the idea during his work placement when he was visiting the local swimming pool a lot.
"I got quite bored just swimming up and down," he said.
The music player is integrated into swimming goggles and uses bone conduction to vibrate music direct to the skull.
The sound quality is actually better than in a normal environment because there is no background noise.
Mr James picked up an innovation award from sponsors AOL and a cheque for £1000.
Research firm Newland Scientific has shown an interest in developing the gadget commercially.
"As well as recreational uses it has all kinds of applications, such as a communication device for swimmers or deep-sea divers," said Mr James.
For parents, an automated baby gate that keeps children safely behind bars while letting parents pass could prove a useful addition to the house.
Inventor Liz Lelliott explained that her designs are inspired by existing items that need improvement.
"Parents told me that conventional gates have a dangerous bottom bar that they can easily trip on," she said.
Her design eliminates this and height-sensitive sensors allow adults to pass without having to fiddle with the gate itself.
Even adventurous toddlers will not be able to set off the sensors as they are specifically designed for only adults to pass.
And women the world over will be thanking Ella Kilgour, for her simple yet effective invention.
She has come up with the ultimate in fashion and comfort - the collapsible stiletto heel.
Gateway plans new handhelds, server
Will release first in a series of devices on Monday
By Tom Krazit, IDG News Service June 19, 2003
More details about Gateway's forthcoming PDA (personal digital assistant) and a new server to be released in August were revealed by executives Tuesday in a phone interview at CeBIT America in New York.
The Gateway 100X will be Gateway's first handheld when it is released on Monday with the launch of Microsoft's Pocket PC 2003 operating system, said Mike Stinson, vice president and general manager of mobile products for Gateway. The company considers its PDA a high-end product that it will sell for between $300 and $350, he said.
The Poway, Calif., company will include both a Compact Flash and a SD (secure digital) slot in the PDA, Stinson said. It will come with 32MB of RAM and 32MB of ROM, he said. Information about how much RAM would be user accessible was not immediately available.
Gateway will use a 3.5-inch reflective TFT (thin film transistor) display on the Gateway 100X, with a screen resolution of 320 pixels by 240 pixels, Stinson said. The PDA will also come with a 400MHz XScale processor from Intel, he said.
The 100X is only the first in a series of PDAs and smartphones, Stinson said. Gateway will roll out other models over the coming months, at different price points and with different features, he said.
Also among the 50 new products Gateway plans to release this year will be a four-way, rack-mounted server based on Xeon MP processors in late August, said Scott Weinbrandt, general manager for the systems and networking group. The company will also "investigate" the possibility of releasing a server based on Intel's Itanium processor, he said.
Gateway will also add two storage products to its lineup by the end of the year, one in the third quarter and the other toward the end of the year, Weinbrandt said. The company plans to focus on direct-attached storage products, he said.

Ready To Go?Don't just take our word for it, here are a few comments from others in the IFE indus-try..."AIRFAX and IFExpress are two of the `must-have' tools for doing business inIFE. Their coverage is always right on top of breaking news and the newtechnologies that impact our business."
CIRCULATION PROFILE - 6,000
Inflight is sent, on request and subscription, to 6,000 readers worldwide. This circulation is carefully controlled to ensure a high quality of readership. With this selective policy, many recipients have decisive influence as presidents, managing directors and executives with airlines, equipment suppliers, programming departments, studios and distributors.
This selective circulation policy guarantees Inflight reaches all key decision makers, making it a sharply-focused advertising medium. Exposure is enhanced by the retention of issues as a reference source, and the constant addition of new entrants in this rapidly growing market by our circulation development department. This includes airlines with suitable aircraft, who are yet to make a final decision on IFE and communications equipment.
Recognizing that business developments can change underlying fundamentals for the better is what investing in startup companies is all about for me.
"We are on track to complete and deliver on three major OEM contracts (Softeq/Hewlett Packard, Eclipse by Fujitsu Ten and APS) this summer, with the Softeq/Hewlett Packard product scheduled for completion and delivery this month," said Fred Falk, CEO of e.Digital. "We and our customers are very excited about the function and look of these three state-of-the-art electronic products. All three contracts have the potential for larger follow-on orders and further product and business opportunities."
lickily, deals here expose EDIG to an entirely new investment crowd as the IFE industry is a growing and high profile industry.
Airlines and Twentieth Century entertain a serious investment crowd.

Hot Topic: Portable VOD Player Promises To Shake Up Embedded IFE Systems!
Here it is, the worlds smallest, portable onboard Video-On-Demand system from APS and e.Digital, and is it going to cause a flap in the industry! This book size marvel from two companies most IFE insiders never heard of, will soon be making big news with regional airlines in the US and Europe. The development team of this hard drive-based product has a content deal agreement with Twentieth Century Fox and is in talks with other studios for more content the key to any successful VOD program. As we have said before, content is king with VOD systems and Early Window programming just may make the book-sized, APS product a homerun for the small Washington company.
Sporting a 7 hour L-ion battery, the unit promises a full flight day of usage and programming that includes 25 movies, a few sitcoms and a boatload of MP3s. The player ought to be an instant hit. Airline interest has been strong and we hear that one has already signed up for the program while talks progress with many others. And speaking of programs, airlines are offered 3 options that run from a revenue sharing plan to outright purchase. With a price tag of 1/10 embedded hardware products, the single-aisle, point-to-point market is growing and ripe for a new IFE paradigm shift. This may be the new wave in IFE. In our interview with APSs affable prez Bill Boyer, he told IFExpress that they will be offering a turn key program that includes repair, refurb and battery management.
We were interested in the content security aspects of the device and Mr. Boyer noted that the unit, if stolen, has been designed to be content-tamper-proof and uses a proprietary battery and power connection design. Steve Ferguson, VP at e.Digital (the maker) told us that a stray unit will only provide entertainment till the battery runs out access to the content is protected physically and heavily coded. Insiders tell us that some pretty big IFE players are sniffing around the Digi-e-player and our readers might expect to see some deals with big IFE houses as well. Stay tuned!
