Flyers - Really excellent - a well thought out commentary.
So the FlOpsis chips were delivered?
Spooks, If you doubt management's integrity, believe that Tom or any of the individuals would intentionally deceive shareholders, it's time for you to exit.
Just IMHO,
I rarely post, but do keep up with events (with thanks to some great individuals on this board), and thought TZ's Shareholder Letter was one of the better pieces of communication that I've ever read - from any CEO. Rarely, if ever, do you get a CEO who lays the cards on the table, and I think Tom pretty much did just that. There are individuals who just can't help being negative, and who may have reason to doubt based on the years of trying - albeit without much, if any, success from an investor's perspective - that has kept the company from realizing the breakthroughs they have been striving for, and the financial rewards everyone has hoped for. And the board has individuals who lean in the opposite direction, hoping - and trying to believe - that success is just around the corner.
Over the past few months, the dial on the Raging Optimism vs. Unrepentant Pessimism scale has had some pretty big swings, like in the past few days following release of the Letter. I believe I'm an optimist, but also a realist, understanding that despite the time it's been in existence, Lightwave is still a startup, and while I firmly think the technology is real, and can very possibly result in something akin to Edison's light bulb, I'm not expecting THE ANNOUNCEMENT tomorrow, or in the next several months.
There's recently been a lot of discussion on boards and in the news about MNKD; I did pretty well on that, but for a long time (maybe still) it was considered to be a dog by a lot of savvy investors, finally may be coming into it's own - but if all goes well, the overnight success of the company will have been years in the making.
I may have said this before, in a post long ago, but what individuals are buying when they buy shares of LWLG are non-expiring options in a company that may be the next Intel. This is not an investment, it's a straight-out bet that may fail, but may make you financially set for life. There are folks who have a small wager on this, and some who have bet the farm, and there's great information to be garnered on this board from some great posters to help us understand more fully the nature of our bet; but it's just that, a bet, maybe someday it will prove to be a great investment, but not yet.
I read some individuals saying, I've lost faith, don't believe in the company anymore, but I'm gonna stick with this to the bitter end .... are you serious?? That's an investment strategy?? That's like hitting yourself on the head with a hammer, firmly believing it's going to do you in, but you're going to stick with it come what may. Please, put down the hammer, sell the stock, and find something you believe in on which to risk your hard-earned capital.
I'm a believer in the Goo, and in the Guys trying to get this technology into the end zone, and make me rich in the process, but right now it's just a bet I've made that may - and may not - pay off bigtime.
Time will tell. And we might as well try as best we can to maintain out patience, or if we can't, sell our options and try something else. I hope we all fare well.
R.I.P BSmith
Can we now please send him to iggyland permanently?
Rick, Gates, Walter, X, et.al - Now that BS and Poop have been given a platform and garnered credibility for their BS (sorry, BS) over the past couple of days thanks to your responding to their every post, maybe you might try a different tack and just IGNORE THEM?
Stop responding, maybe they'll eventually quietly go away; keep it up with the responses, and they'll eventually take over the board.
X, I'm sorry, I didn't get the pronoun reference; is "they" LWLG or Luxtera? If LWLG, I can't find the referenced hyperlink ...
Rick, Thanks for posting the MIT article on Michael Watts work.
Rick, re: your post #9194 - could you please translate what is being said from Geekazoid into plain English???
There might be a few folks other than myself (I hope!) who may be mystified by this techno-speak!
Walter, are you at liberty to say who was the author of the reply?
I don't get it - with all the questions that have been raised on this board concerning technology, timing, potential commercialization, management, etc., there wasn't anyone other that a couple of analysts asking a few questions on the CC.
So where were all you guys who were going to put it to management and get some straight answers?? Post CC, here come the questions by the same guys, saying the CC was a disaster. You had a chance to talk directly to management and nary a peep out of any of you.
Maybe it's just more fun to complain and blame on the board than participate in a live discussion with the decision makers.
Six, Many thanks for your persistence and for posting Steve's / Tom's reply to your email. I've emailed and received replies from Steve in the past, all of which were carefully worded - some might say evasive (not me)- but this reply appears to be as straightforward as I've ever read from anyone representing a publicly traded company. I hope this calms the fears and belays some of the uncertainties about the company and management that fudsters like BSmith are trying to infuse in the minds of investors. Thanks again.
OK; spoke with Tom, the modulators will be on sale beginning December 1st on aisle 6 at your local Kmart. $49.95 or 2 for $75.00
Happy now?
Rick, Wise, and Terry -
that was one of the most interesting and stimulating exchanges I've read on this or any other board in a long, long, time.
Thank You.
Proto, The amount of due diligence the average investor performs before and after investing could be summarized on the back of a matchbook cover, and that's for a company that makes pickaxes, not a company developing 3rd generation organic chromophore nonlinear optical devices (or something to that effect ...). Same is true for the analysts, most of whom have no idea how to read and interpret balance sheets, P&L's, and cash flow statements.
X is correct when he says this company is on the radar of some giants, and sooner rather than later is going to be bought up - hopefully for a price that will make us all thankful for being patient and steadfast.
X - The epistemological BS that's now dominating the current dialogue is to be expected; after all, as you have noted, we haven't had our daily (or preferably) hourly updates on the state of affairs at LWLG - maybe someone could contact Fred and ask him if management could release daily updates on what senior management is ordering for lunch??
(Edited) Hi Terry,
Well, we're in agreement about X - I guess that's a start. I'll try not to clutter the board with more banter. Back to lurking.
Hope you have a great weekend -
Edit:
PS: I'm also in complete agreement with you re: the last sentence of your post to Gates.
Thanks Buzz.
Hi Terry,
Discussion about all-optical computing and reporting factual events surrounding LWLG is of great interest and is much appreciated. Endless speculation about the why's and wherefor's of the living locations of LWLG's officers, carping about their compensation or why they don't keep us informed on a daily, minute-by-minute basis about company operations, and threads of a similar nature reduces what can be a valuable discussion board to an internet chatroom.
I value the information that's shared by members here, it's just getting a little frustrating and time consuming to sift through the chaff to get a few kernels of factual information.
Thanks - have a great day.
Possibly - but IPNav is privately owned vs. MARA's public status. Right now he can do things at IPNav without having to answer to regulators and outside shareholders, and still continue to build his position in MARA. It may be that right now he has the best of both worlds.
Reading yesterday's scintillating dialogue on the board, one has to wonder if any of you guys have real jobs? Maybe you're all rich, retired and posting mindless drivel is something to fill the empty hours - or maybe the average age is 25? A few guys (X, Rick, Wise, Gates, occasionally Buzz) actually have interesting and informative factual information to share; I'm just curious about why the rest of you guys, chatting about the gastronomic glories of Delaware vs Utica vs eastern Oregon or Colorado are here? If there's nothing new to report w/regards to developments, why not find something constructive do something with your time?
Sorry, but sifting through the sh*t to find a few kernels of valuable information and insight is getting to be a job in and of itself.
X - Thanks for your posts.
I, and I assume others who often lurk but don't have valuable info to contribute appreciate your insights and the information you kindly (and patiently) share. Boards all seem to follow the same pattern; guys who share factual information and insight succumb after a while to the endless (as you so aptly put it) "are we there yet" mindset of investors who grow weary of waiting and want results NOW, and when success doesn't meet their timeframes, grow increasingly frustrated, skeptical, and negative.
Then, those who have real info to share disappear, leaving the boards to those whose only contributions are more and more negativity.
Two weeks ago this board was universally upbeat - but two weeks without a new breathtaking development which catapults the SP into the stratosphere is definitely too long to sustain optimism over what was (and is) significantly positive news.
I understand why you might disappear for awhile - but hope you don't.
You beat me to it, but I concur ...
Well, with the FUD that has been re-stimulated by BSmith's innocent comments and queries, it's possible that more than a few longs who are board lurkers may have decided to opt out. Not specifically saying that Smitty is a FUDster, but agree with Gates and X that some of the comments appear to be attached to a personal agenda.
47,000 @1.84 after hours/EOM
Correct; but VirnetX also has a $400M+ judgement against Apple for past infringement, and annual royalties of 1%+ to be assessed by Judge Leonard Davis in the next few weeks for Apple's ongoing infringement that will add hundreds of millions to that annual revenue number.
Agreed; this is akin to gambling. But if you can't maintain your cool, you've got too much skin in the game and need to reduce the size of your bet commensurate with your comfort level.
My daddy taught me that's the first rule of gambling as well as investing.
Wise,
What you say makes perfect sense. There's a cadre of folks on this board who wanted to hear that Santa had finally delivered the pony under the Christmas tree, and when that didn't happen, their world fell apart, and they decided to go in the corner and sulk.
Folks like X, Rick, Gates, yourself, and others may be disappointed, but they remain - if not overly optimistic - at least objective.
Rick, Thanks for the very informative posts. Excellent info.
I'm not a technical sort, so a lot of this is over my head, but I'm continuing to learn and become more conversant with and understanding of the technology, thanks to you.
If you're looking to protect accumulated wealth - Diversify.
If you're looking to accumulate wealth - Concentrate.
Neum2sam,
I'm with you on this one. I've been listening to the refrain "holding management accountable" ad nauseum - why haven't the long term shareholders held management accountable for the last who knows how many years? All of a sudden (it seems from the posts) NOW everyone wants answers?
This is starting to sound like a bunch of old ladies sitting around complaining about why their husbands ignore them. If you have no confidence in the present management, or seriously doubt that Perk in any of it's possible forms is commercially viable, sell your shares. The fact that you've held for years and have suffered is irrelevant.
I watch this board for factual information; I haven't held this stock for years like others on the board; I took my time, did my DD, and am in now. There are people who post genuinely good information from which we can all learn and base our investing decisions, but without trying to offend everyone, this bellyaching is getting a little old.
PatentInvestor,
Would you (or any board member) care to hazard a guess for the 500K share increase? Attempt to block the merger??
Have been reading posts for the last 2 weeks which have been growing increasingly negative and cynical. Following management's announcement on April 2, there was a tidalwave of optimism by posters here; now, less than 2 months later, a tidalwave of the opposite sentiment. It appears that LT investors are simply burned out after seemingly interminable waiting for developments to materialize that will have positive impact on the share price NOW.
Does anyone have any factual information to indicate that investors are being deliberately misled by management? Have any members of the board attempted any communications with management in the past 60 days which might shed light with regards to any of the many questions and negative assumptions that are being raised on the board daily?
It was (is) my probably naïve understanding that the initial Perk test results with the technology partner were positive, and that further testing and refinement was being done to meet specific technical requirements and specs for certain devices. Is is reasonable to assume that this can be accomplished within a 2 month timeframe??
My apologies. Did not mean to offend anyone - and I certainly didn't mean to suggest that if you're frustrated and feel a need to vent on this board that you should get out - by all means, vent if you feel a need to do so. Nevertheless, I stand by my statement; if an individual doesn't believe in the tech or management, why stay in?
Had a back-an-forth with cordovano yesterday, trying to get direct answers to specific questions. Nothing concrete coming back, it's like trying to read tea leaves from the reaponses. FWIW, I had the impression that it's a case of can't say, rather than intentional stonewalling, but that's just IMO.
I can feel the frustration and impatience of board members, but this is a microcap developmental company, not IBM or INTEL. I understand that LWLG's been at it for some time and has had missteps that have resulted in setbacks and personnel changes. In IMO this is pretty typical.
At a buck a share, this is a call option for technology that may change global communications and make investors rich. You either believe in the technology and trust management's ability to execute, or you get out.
A quick question:
Did LWLG specifically state that they are only pursuing one path (with EMP) at this time or is it possible that they in fact are pursuing other paths simultaneously?
