Bootz, holding hands in front of eyes and grimacing.
Who decided turquoise and orange look good in the same room? Even though I see that every time I am in the SF store it never looked so dreadful. Maybe it's akin to a saying my grandmother used when a daughter complained about the fit of a piece of clothing...it will never be noticed on a galloping horse.
For those scratching their heads it means flaws are hard to see in motion, perhaps colors too. Sure hope so. Bring back black.
Annie
tomm, big cats alive.
How hard would it be to donate $1.00 of every computer, iPhone, or iPod to protecting these big cats Steve seems so enamored of? Works for me.
Annie
Anyone here with .mac accounts...
able to send mail? Haven't been able to here for many hours.
Annie
dilleet.
Yesterday dilly's family boarded a salmon fishing boat, went out on Monterey Bay and scattered his ashes.
I've sent links to some of the comments made here by his friends to his sister Kathleen. She is thankful to all of you for caring.
Annie
OK, that is a much better cat. eom
What a pretty cat! EOM
MParness, hmmm.......
You joined iHub today, you have posted only once and it was to this board. Any particular reason you chose to dump on AAPL while promoting/advertising yourself?
iAnnie
tomm...oh groan.
Thank you for pointing that out. I will never be able to get that out of my head. Does this mean I have to sell my car?
Annie
JisJ.....definitely Austin Powers.
I hate it. I was really hoping that was a wrong guess. I wasn't embarrassed to admit to being a .Mac member but MobileMe? Ick.
Annie
roni, certainly down here. eom
Way OT and not up to Bootz quality but......
When I go out into the garden early enough in the AM I can catch the bees still "in bed". I guess they have to warm up before they go to work.
Doesn't look like this worked but I'll post it anyway just in case.
Annie
tomm, oooops, sorry.
I thought I had seen it in your post. My bad as they say.
Annie
tomm re: music tribute.
Who yanked your playlist? It may not have been on topic but good grief, we lost a dear friend.
I'm forwarding posts to his sister and I wanted to include that one.
Come on iHub! Have a heart!
Annie
You've done it again Bootz. EOM
One on one sessions.
If anyone out there is considering the one on ones try to do it at a store that offers before opening sessions. It's heaven without the racket of customers.
Looked at the new iMacs, played with one, couldn't tell a difference. They didn't have any 3.06 GHz models out. The ones I looked at were 2.8s.
I'm becoming a Pages whiz next week Numbers
Annie
Bootz, Turkish? I have no idea but......
That last image is just strange. My first thought was cockroach and I don't think that's what the artist was aiming for.
Annie
Bootz,
I want to know how to pronounce the developer's last name.
Annie
dilly, are you still with us? eom
Bootz, I think you show up best in the small bubble above the bottom leaf.
I sure can't make out a white shirt though.
So which in you collection of cameras did you use for that one?
Annie
Tex, $99 training,
To start you get 1 hour of undivided attention from someone knowledgeable in whatever it is you're interested in learning about. You make an appointment and choose a subject from a list or make up your own and are then paired with a personal trainer that specializes in that area. You can choose anything Apple. In my case Photoshop has been included even though it isn't "Apple". They have a little latitude there.
I won't embarrass myself by revealing some of the tiny tricks that I've learned because I'm sure everyone here already knows them but I will tell you that Pages has become a whole lot easier to use and understand. Photoshop is becoming a bit clearer as well though that one has miles to go before I could be comfortable in it.
What I have been working on for the last 3 sessions is a business card so I had to learn how to manipulate all the parts required in that tiny part of Pages. I also had to learn how to obtain, alter and apply a bit of graphic stuff, hence the Photoshop foray.
Next week we start on a website. After that who knows? There is so much I don't know that I may just buy another year after I use up this one.
Annie
Plenty of iPhones at the SF Apple Store.
I just got back from my 3rd personal training session and while I was there I perused the iPhone stock. I have no idea how many were in the back but there were lots on the tables.
I know most of you are Mac whizzes but I'm not. The $99.00 I paid for the personal training deal was the best $99.00 I ever spent. The first 2 sessions were worth that amount. Now it's all free as far as I'm concerned. Apple can't be making any money on this, I sure hope it's helping to sell computers.
Annie
roni, I did.
I noticed that my Japanese maples are about to spring open and that it's time to pick green garlic. Was there something else of import that I missed?
Annie
Wow Bootz! What a beauty! eom
love the Air in the clouds tomm. EOM
lango, sigh.........
I'm not trying to suggest that Apple is immune just that the enormous difference in store patronage in downtown San Francisco at lunchtime was remarkable.
When I worked around Union Square we would all scurry out to get in line somewhere to get lunch and/or try to pick up something at one of the many stores in the area, pushing our way through crowded streets.
Yesterday, it was a glorious sunny, warm day, at noon. Walking down the street was a breeze, didn't have to wait behind masses of people waiting at the corners to cross the street because they are unfamiliar with San Franciscan's habit of crossing when there is no traffic. I was the ONLY customer in sight on the first floor of Barney's, one of a hand full at NM and one of maybe 60-70 in the Apple Store a half a block away. Even Macy's had more sales people in evidence than customers.
Maybe that means nothing to you but it speaks volumes to me.
Annie
yof,et.al. One to one training.
Yesterday I had my first session at the SF store. I bought the $99 personal training thing because I am tired of feeling stupid and struggling to figure stuff out by myself and ending up no farther ahead after hours of frustration. I'm too old to afford to be proud and dumb. Anyway, I learned more in that hour than I have in days messing about alone. The store has a section where there are 16 computers set up just for the one to one program. It was full.
As I was leaving I had to practically elbow my way through a throng of foreign orthopedic sturgeons. Ooops, sorry, surgeons. It seemed like trying to fight my way through a school of fish. I knew they were orthopedic surgeons because they were all wearing tags proclaiming such. They were laden with toys. Lots of iPhones, some Airs, many software boxes and accessories. The accent was unfamiliar, but they must not have Apple stores where ever they live.
A really cute, really young guy helped me for at least 20 minutes when I first arrived (I was very early) and I had a chance to question him about sales. Air comes in and is gone in hours. Ditto Time Capsule.
After my 1 to 1 I wandered about a little through the stores I can't afford to shop at like Barney's and Neiman Marcus. They were virtually empty except for employees of whom there seemed to be an over supply. Of which? I don't know but my point is the economy may be slowing down elsewhere but not in Appleland. Some of these analysts who are taking Apple's numbers down need to visit a store. No slow down there.
Well, that's way too long a post. Thanks to all who have made it this far. You must not have a life.
Annie
What's with the new icons by our names?
Nothing like putting our business in the street. Are they trying to shame the free people into subscribing? Sheeesh!
Annie
Time capsule shipped today. eom
Bootz, ah OK. eom
Bootz, artificial meteor shower?
What are artificial meteors made of?
Caught a few glimpses of the eclipse here in SF though it was a bit cloudy. It made it look kind of ghostly. Pretty good show.
Annie
tomm, hmmm..............
how come I wasn't given that option? Are you special or is Apple just being stingy with me?
Who else got the combo version?
Annie
tomm, only 180 shows up for me.
What is it comboed with? Combod, combowed combode.................?
Annie
tomm,
I was the green apple 3rd row, 6th icon, right next to the official apple. I know because I made it myself. I was very proud at the time
Annie
dilly, you have a private message. eom
Thanks Pete,
Looks like I'll have to stick with my accountant for now.
Annie
Tex, re: business.
I make soft furnishings. You are probably sitting there scratching your head and thinking "huh?" Soft furnishings are anything for your home, or office I suppose, made of fabric. Things like drapes, shades, bedding, pillows, table coverings, etc.
I work with decorators, a few exclusive stores and private clients. Everything is custom made.
Your suggestion would probably be good if I had the time to enter all that data which I do not. I am the only employee.
Thanks,
Annie
I have a question for any of you who own your own business....
and do your own taxes. What do you use? Turbotax, pencil and eraser, abacus, what? I'm considering tackling the job myself for the first time.
Any help will be appreciated.
Annie
dilly, don't know if you are lurking but you are missed.
I think it's safe to say you are in all of our thoughts.
Annie
Bootz, I looked at that one too.
Again, really nicely made and they didn't make the usual mistake of using white stitching on black leather. Reminds me of polyester double knit leisure suits. That version comes in some nice colors and textures and looks much more expensive than it is.
I just went for the simpler sleeve because it is less bulky. Sometimes I carry a small bag and don't want something that big inside.
Annie
tomm, not a bad looking item.
I saw quite a few clear plastic cases that did look at all bad but most do not protect the screen and the ones that I saw that did require removing the cover to use the touch screen. The little kickstand is neat for watching a video or slideshow.
What I have been looking for is a sleeve. I like the tactile feel of the phone itself so the plastic shells don't really do what I want.
Most of the leather cases really miss on the aesthetic side and are really bulky. That is why I was so pleased to find this very simple, nicely made leather sleeve. If I put the phone in backwards I don't have to see the logo, it's only drawback.
