My sentiments exactly Ricnat. The stock market hates doubt, and an overhanging debt can stifle a stock's performance until the situation is rectified. The stock placement removed the chains that were holding our share price down.
Yesterday afternoon's buying spree was extremely strong. It is obvious that being 12 cents away from the recent $1.22 peak puts us very close to another major breakout. I suspect that we are in for a very strong rally beyond the $1.22 mark, and could close off the week close to $1.50 (I give this a 50-50 chance).
Happy Thanksgiving to those celebrating it today, but remember to sneak onto the computer and take a peak at PTQ's trading (TSX) once in a while!
GLTA,

What might the following statement from the press release suggest?
"The full amount of the proceeds of the private placement in combination with available capital will be used to redeem 100% of the Company's remaining secured notes balance."
Is it too early to assume that "the available capital" comes from company profits, as in PTQ is actually making money? Where else could it come from? The gold loan netted PTQ about $41M, and now $30M (less fees) is enough to retire the balance of the notes. I thought their debt obligations plus the costs of drilling plus the prep for mine expansion would have exceeded $71M by quite a margin.
Does anyone know how much money PTQ owed plus the amount of money contributed to exploration and expansion at the time of the DB gold loan?
I would also be curious to know who the non-brokered participants are and what they know that enticed them to pony up with $1 per share? In May, the company could barely scrounge up enough interest to do a $2M placement at half the price.
This press release is fantastic news, and also seems to suggest that things at the mine are going very well indeed. Judging by the buying spree we saw yesterday by the few in the know, we may have a beautiful rally over the next few days.
Cheers and GLTA,
In4Money9

Stochastics will be giving a strong buy signal if we hit $1.06/share by tomorrow. Other indicators will start to say buy buy buy over the next few days, and the stock price hasn't even left port yet. Hang on. The POG is also a nice catalyst here.
GLTA,
In4Money9
Jal, this trading pattern you took note of seems to point to quiet accumulation. At the current volume levels, the sellers should soon be exhausted. By yesterday's action, it would appear that there just remains one major seller.
Here are the three largest net sellers from yesterday's trading of PTQ. Looks like Anonymous fell asleep with his nose on the sell button again. Where do you think the share price would be if Anonymous took a holiday? It is a good thing he is dumping shares here so that our next rally will be that much stronger.

One good up day next week will trigger buy signals on some technical indicators, and we should retest the $1.22 mark soon after. If gold has a bad week, we may have to wait longer.
Patience,
In4Money9
I am somewhat bemused by the negative bias some of the posters have assumed in the absence of news and apparently by the duration of this consolidation in the stock price.
For what its worth, here is my synopsis.
After taking a long look at PTQ's 3 month chart, I see nothing unusual in the trading pattern that would suggest that this recent trading activity has been anything but a normal price correction, and a shallow one at that!
1) Our last trend slope up is much steeper than our slope down from the $1.22 peak. This is a classic pattern of bulls.
2) PTQ punched through 98 cents with enough momentum to take the price to $1.22 with ease.
3) The support at 90 cents has been consistent and unthwarted.
4) The predominant source of the selling over the past month has been Anonymous, with Canaccord running 2nd. Here are the biggest 4 net sellers over the past 4 weeks.
14 ITG -257,941
80 National Bank -333,100
33 Canaccord -2,121,338
1 Anonymous -3,649,000
Had the selling been broader based I would have cause for concern.
5. Most mining stocks have taken corrections over the past weeks, and PTQ's performance is likely more closely linked with the sector than its own performance.
6. PTQ is a producing gold mine with 2M ounces in reserves. Remember SGR below $1? JIN below a $1? VEN below a $1? EAS below $1? Sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride - it's PTQ's turn.
GLTA,
In4Money9
I could not agree more FarViewHill. PTQ closed at the same price it opened at, and that is after enduring a very bad day on the TSX. These 1M plus share days (on the TSX alone) are exhausting the sellers, and a few more days will see the technical indicators giving fresh buy signals. We can expect the next rally to be quite explosive because of the amount of turnover that has taken place at this level.
GLTA,
In4Money9
Still here Jal. Been way too busy this week to post much, but I have been keeping an eye on PTQ's technicals.
Since the share price set sail from the 30 cent range, PTQ's performance has met or exceeded every one of my own technical price targets and within shorter time frames than I had expected.
The most recent outperformance involved PTQ's punch through the 98 cent threshold and upward to $1.22 before backing off. The consolidation, price swings and volume levels we are experiencing now are all harbingers of much much higher prices in the very near future.
Should the trading action maintain its existing strength, we may clear $2.00/share by mid January - $2.35 is my target for the next major peak.
I don't plan to sell any of my shares for another year or two, as PTQ is working to increase both production and reserves while decreasing its costs.
One thing that I keep thinking (dreaming) about is the ongoing drilling that is taking place on PTQ's property. If we manage to hit some high interval core with a good showing of gold ...... bingo!
Don't expect too much early this week, but we should be inching back to $1.22 by Friday or early the following week - so much depends on what gold does.
GLTA,
In4Money9
I like the leveraged gains - If PTQ's mining costs are $600 ounce, each 5% increase in the price of gold in the $1400 area represent about a 9% gain in profits for PTQ.
I can't wait for PTQ to eat through the shares in this $1 area. But with a few million shares per day and gold increasing, it shouldn't be too much longer - then watch out!
GLTA,
In4Money9
WOW! Look at GOLD. Just blew past $1400!
Here comes the high volume reversal - if the price holds to the end of the day. Ideally we close at the day high to leave no doubts about where this thing is going near-term.
GLTA,
In4Money9
Deex, what about Friday too, where it seems obvious that the price was walked down to $1.05 to accomodate the 5M share cross. Seen it too many times over the years. Now I just see these takedowns as opportunities to buy more.
Cheers,
In4Money9
Consider that a 10% price swing when we were at 30 cents was a few pennies. Now 10% is a dime. At $3 the same % swing will be 30 cents, enough change in portfolio value to buy me a nice car or two! May drive myself down to Panama!
Just noticed the depth is continuing to improve. Hoping for a full high volume reversal today.
Cheers,
In4Money9
This will be very good for the chartsters. I am still holding every share, not flipping this one. Been left out in the cold and got burned in the past on some other plays! Waiting for MUCH higher prices.
Cheers,
In4Money9
We just had a hammer down spike to 86 on high volume and right back to the mid 90's. I think we just saw the lows of the day - and possibly for a lot longer than that! Big volume bids just showed up at 90 and 91 cents on the depth. Good buying opportunity.
GLTA
In4Money9
I can't see us dipping all the way to 82, just saying it is a possibility basd on technicals. It may get close though - time will tell. We went up to over $1.20 so quickly that we need more consolidation, and that is something I would like to see.
Cheers,
In4Money9
PTQ should find buying support at 98 cents. If not, we may dip back to as low as 82 cents briefly.
Cheers,
In4Money9

A small bit of up volume on the TSX this week may be due to some short covering. The October 31st short count had risen from October 15th's report, and we all know what the share price has done over the 1st days of November. Interesting.

Fundamentals trumping technicals. Very low resistance so far from technical selling. Very nice.
We may still pull back, but no worries now that we punched through the 98 cent mark. Wow!
GLTA,
In4Money9
Jitney and Cormark together made up about one third of the shares on the buy side today on the TSX. I too would like to know who the big buyers are at 88 cents. Sure feels as if PTQ will be breaking into the dollar region very shortly.
GLTA,
In4Money9
Someone wants in. More than 500,000 shares have been sitting on the bid at 88 cents all afternoon on PTQ. Very bullish.
GLTA,
In4Money9
I am surprised and encouraged by how low the volume is considering we went as high as 95 cents on the TSX. I was expecting a few 2M share days to get to 98, and we almost got there on just over 1M.
A move to 98 cents is likely within days, and we may just punch through as there does not seem to be as much resistance as there should be. I would not be short at this time! For the chartists, PTQ need only touch this price on the TSX to attract a whole bunch of new buyers.
Can't predict anything beyond this until we see the trading action near and at 98 cents.
GLTA,
In4Money9
This press release could not be more timely. Throw in some good October production numbers and we will be above a dollar in a heartbeat. Company does seem to be promoting itself much better.
PTQ heading for a bullish open - 98 cents is getting very close.
GLTA,
In4Money9
Bids are continuing to improve as you pointed out earlier. I think if we break 82 this morning, we may see 98 cents a lot sooner than later. Momentum may carry us into the low 1's, but there should be some kind of correction if there is no fresh news.
My suspicion is that there is a news leak. Time will tell. A good closing price on a Friday is always nice for potential investors to digest over the weekend - let's hope we get it.

Good question Pots. Correct me if I am wrong, but if you buy Petaquilla stock in a currency that goes down (say by 5%) and not in the currency that went up by 5% against the 1st, then there is a 10% differential between the two scenarios. So the currency issue is definitely worth considering.

I too have been reluctant to sell at these resistance points as there is always a risk that you may not get back in, and end up chasing the stock. The last three resistance points 72, 63 and 48 saw relatively minor pullbacks of about 10% each. I have learned the hard way to not try timing the market and to just hang tight through these consolidations. The fundamentals with PTQ are very good and improving, and I want to have my PTQ shares when we break 98 cents. The swing price is a bit higher than $3/share!

I am with you Jal. There will likely be a huge selling wall at or close to 98 cents. I can see PTQ doing a million plus shares per day when we get there, as this is the price PTQ couldn't get through last winter. Momentum may take us through this time, and then it will be a whole new ball game. I am keeping every share regardless, as I feel we are headed much higher.

PTQ bids are looking good early this morning and gold is up. Should be a pleasant trading day.

Technically - PTQ on TSX breakout above 72 imminent. Should move to 82 cents on this rally.
Love the fundamentals on this play.

Selling of PTQ on the TSX has dried up at the 70 cent level. Could be another jump in price soon. Should get a bit of resistance again at 82 cents. Then onward to test the 98 cent level.

Even with no drilling results I feel that PTQ's share price is extremely undervalued by a factor of 5. Some good results would catapult us higher, and it seems that us investors as a whole are always the last to know! A positive change in bias towards PTQ coincides with their October 6th press release about the September production, and I don't really see any other recent moves aside from that indicating significant news.
I would like to know how much similarity there is between PTQ's geology, and that of Ventana's which is a few hundred miles away across the border in Colombia. Does our general proximity boost our chances of hitting something big, or are we too far away?
PTQ on the TSX - It appears that we already had a complete cup and handle formation as of August 20th, indicating a breakout to higher prices. The intraday high was 63 cents that day. It was probably that weekend that the tailings pond became an issue, and the price breakout failed. However, since then, another cup has formed (right-side up of course), and the right edge has broken upwards through the 63 cent level as of yesterday. Touching (or breaking through) this price was very important, closing above it as PTQ did Friday is extremely bullish.
Now for the bottom line - because of the extended price consolidation of the past 6 months we are technically due for an even larger rise in price on this rally than we would have witnessed in August. I won't speculate as to how much higher we go on this rally, but it should get some legs early this week. I give 90% odds that we do go up significantly from here. I will be watching Germany's trading when I wake up Monday morning.
There will be a lot of traders that will see the PTQ chart over this weekend, and I will be very surprised if PTQ does not burst out of the gates at the start of trading on Monday.
All IMHO,

Frankfurt Chart of P7Z.F reveals a classic cup and handle formation 6 months in the making. This should lead to a significant and sustained upward trend in the future stock price.
GLTA,

My chart says there will be resistance at 70, but since the selling has been so sparse at this level, I would not be surprised to see PTQ move into the mid and upper 70's over the next week or two.
In4Money9
Yes indeed. Closed at 64, a penny higher than the 63 cent resistance. Should be a follow through rally next week. Have a good weekend.
