xx,
I really didn't see any weakness for Miami. They were simply awesome.
That seems to be the general consensus. If history is a guide tho, that just means they will blow a game somewhere along the way. Sure hope so. They look to be the only team with a chance to go undefeated and I'd rather see total confusion with the BCS - some day we will see the playoffs. The sooner the better.
Gary
ksquared,
The early line has UM by 3 over the Irish & Neb. by 5.5 over PSU. I think they'll both be excellent games. Hopefully, the weather will cooperate - I hate the thought of watching a loss in the rain. Of course, after tailgating all day, I might not be aware. ;)
The back is worse now. Since we have 3 straight home games, I was trying to get as much done as I could with the free weekend. Big mistake. I guess I'll have to go a couple of days w/o tying my shoes. Isn't getting older fun? LOL!
Have a good week - where are the other 4 non-"s" teams? :)
Gary
Mornin' ksquared,
Congrats on another win for the Blue! I didn't see any of your game - had to seal the driveway and I have the backache & blisters to prove it. LOL!
I guess Miami is for real (I think we knew that) and Okla. won despite having negative rushing yards. I was disappointed also with the Purdue game. They could have won it. Oh well, it does make your game that much more important. No other real big surprises - Va. over Lou Holtz & UCLA beating CSU were minor upsets. The Top 25 will change a little. I'm sure since my Lions were idle, we'll fall out of the other poll this week as well.
6 days till the big one - Husker, are you out there? Any thoughts on what your team will throw at us? I sure don't like the idea that Neb. has played 3 games already and we've only played 1. That could be the deciding factor.
Trimming shrubs today since the Steelers don't play till tomorrow night - gotta get all this yard stuff done in between football games, ya know. <g>
Later,
Gary
ksquared,
Yes, even up would just be a straight bet. If UM wins, you win - if they lose, you lose.
OK, on to the quiz. First off, I screwed up once again. I keep forgetting about Marshall. Change that to 9. You've got 5 so far:
Fighting Illini
Fighting Irish
Orangemen
Crimson Tide
Thundering Herd
I can't give you the Minutemen since they (to my knowledge) are a 1AA team. So you need 4 more.
Have a great day!
Quiz Time:
Name the 8 1A football teams whose nickname does NOT end in an "s". For example, Nittany Lions would not be one of them.
:)
Well ksquared, I think we've gone about as far as we should go regarding the script Ohio thing but I did learn something - never realized the Buckeye "distinction", as it were. <g>
As for the bet - go for it. Just bet him even up. If he's that confident, you shouldn't have to give points. ;)
And now it's ..........
And good mornin' to you ksquared. It was a reference to the world famous script Ohio where it's a big deal to be chosen to dot the "i". Never have understood what that's all about. I guess it's a subtle form of "Buckeye envy". LOL!
Have a good one.
ksquared,
Well, it sure beats the heck out of that darn FSU war chant! You just have to find a way to "script" Michigan. ;)
Gary
Colt,
Folks up here will always have a little fun with Mr. Simms because of his "change of heart" about going to PSU. I imagine those in Tenn. feel the same way.
Truthfully, I'm completely satisfied with the QB we got in his place - Zack Mills. I hope they both have outstanding years! :)
Gary
Hi Colt,
Thanks for the welcome & welcome back to you.

Perfect 10: reasons to watch the greatest sport in the world?
Wednesday, September 04, 2002
By Dan Gigler, Post-Gazette Sports Writer
We have more meaning in our lives now. We did not get married, we did not get a puppy. We did not find religion, nor did we find Viagra. What we did is gorge on every moment of the first full Saturday of the college football season, like a starving man at the Grand Concourse buffet. Somewhere between the fun of "Animal House" and the Americana of a Norman Rockwell painting, college football offers the best of sports and life, bar none.
So ... School fight song CD? Check. Remote? Check. Pizza? Check. Couch we will spend the next 12 Saturdays imprinting our rear end on? Check.
The Perfect 10 reasons to watch the greatest sport in the world? Check.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
No. 10: Rod Rutherford
The Dan Marino/Michael Vick hybrid-enigma-savior whom Pitt fans have waited for since he was on the Perry JV team made his debut Saturday night. Will he lead the Oakland faithful back to national prominence? Stay tuned.
No. 9: New coaches
Ty Willingham takes over a Notre Dame squad that needs more rebuilding than the Catholic Church, but so far so good for the Irish. Meanwhile, Ron Zook takes over for Dr. Evil down in the Swamp. He used to coach dem Stiller special teams, which are el sucko lately. If Zook can assume the reins at one of the most scrutinized programs in the country, why'd we ever let him go?
No. 8: SEC cheerleaders
A Perfect 10 in and of themselves. The farmer's daughters in the 'Girls of the Big 12' issue of a certain rabbit-eared magazine -- purchased for the articles -- aren't too shabby either.
No. 7: Chris Simms
How easy (and fun) is it to hate this blond brat? His dad was a Super Bowl-winning QB. He got to hang with LT when he was a kid. He's had everything handed to him. He's from New Jersey. He screwed Major Applewhite out of a job and has choked more than the Hillside Stranglers in big games.
No. 6: I Tappa Kegga
Wheat-, barley- and hops-based beverages will be consumed in ridiculous quantities after the game. So, if State Tech U. loses, you know you'll still have an absolute blast back at the house playing beer pong all night, getting dissed by a Tri-Delt sister, and you'll end up screaming the lyrics to "Paradise City" at the top of your lungs at 5 a.m. with your other unlucky brothers.
No. 5: Black College Bands
Forget that annoying "Go Blue" song Michigan's slice-of-whitebread ensemble trots out a hundred times a game. At tiny places like Grambling and Southern, John Phillip Sousa meets James Brown in the most funkalicious halftime shows around. Not to mention that black schools have turned out gridiron warriors such as Walter Payton, Jerry Rice, Mel Blount and Art Shell, to name just a few.
No. 4: BCS
More plot lines than "Days of Our Lives," more shady dealings than an Arthur Andersen board meeting. But, we cracked the fuzzy math formula: BCS -- the "C" = how a very pedestrian Nebraska team plays for last year's title. In other words, Total BS. See also: Trophy, Heisman; which, like the Oscars, rarely ends up in the hands of the person who deserves it.
No. 3: Tailgating
Reason number 582 why Pitt will always be inferior to Penn State: A convoy of RVs stretching from the IM building to the cow pastures, and 106,000 strong playing touch football, blasting fight songs, grilling kabobs and brats, roasting pigs, and sucking down Rolling Rocks. Pitt tailgaters have a Giant Eagle hoagie ring and have to fend off the crackheads who live under the Veterans Bridge.
No. 2: Pure hatred
What does the "N" on Nebraska's helmet stand for? "Knowledge" ... How do you get a Florida State alum off of your porch? Pay him for the pizza ... My two favorite teams are Virginia Tech and whoever's playing UVA ... If you put all the attendees at an Auburn reunion together, what do you get? A full set of teeth.
No. 1: Tradition
The 12th man. Blue shirts, white pants, no helmet logo, no names. Touchdown Jesus. Boomer Sooner! The Civil War. Hail to Pitt! Beano. Running the option. Script Ohio. Drum major flip. Rubbing the rock in Death Valley. Ralphie the Buffalo. Roll Tide Roll! Uga. Division III kids playing their hearts out. Army-Navy. Lehigh-Lafayette. The Little Brown Jug. Big uglies ...
will probably be on NBC... I think they own Notre Dame... or is it the other way around?
LOL! Good point. Of course, that's our 12th school ya know. They(ND) just haven't figured it out yet. ;) Speaking of that, it will be interesting to see how they separate the 2 divisions when the 12th is added - do you keep both UM & OSU in the same division or separate them for the championship thingy? Something to think about.
I'll expect a full report by Thur. <g>
shao,
Nice to see another Eastern school represented. I miss the old rivalry. I hope they can renew it from time to time in the future.
BTW, thank you for Curt Warner. <g>
Thanks husker. I always thought highly of Tom Osborne also. I was sorry he hung it up so early - I'd feel much better with someone like Tom passing JoPa than I will when Bobby B. does it.....and he will. :(
husker,
Uh oh, now it'll get really interesting - 11 days & counting. ;)
Nebraska's last visit to Happy Valley was on Sept. 25, 1982, as the No. 8 Nittany Lions captured a dramatic, last second 27-24 win over the No. 2 'Huskers in one of the most thrilling games in Beaver Stadium history. Nebraska quarterback Turner Gill scored with 1:18 to play to give the visitors a 24-21 lead. The Nittany Lions took over on their own 35-yard line and quarterback Todd Blackledge engineered the dramatic game-winning drive. His 15-yard completion to tight end Mike McCloskey just inside the sideline took the ball to the NU two. Blackledge then rifled a low throw to tight end Kirk Bowman, who cradled the ball for the winning score with just four seconds to play sending most of the then-record crowd of 85,304 into delirium.
Will history repeat? I expect a record crowd of over 109,000 this time - I'm sure I'll be hoarse by game's end no matter what the outcome.
Best of luck! :)
Gary
Well, I guess the pollsters were impressed with your game to the same degree that they were unimpressed with ours. You moved up 6 places & we disappeared completely. Rodney Dangerfield, where are you? LOL!

Yes, I have season tickets - my buddy(who also lives in your fair state) and I have 6 together, 4 in his name & 2 in mine. We split the cost. With 8 home games this year & the "required donation" to the Nittany Lion Club for the privilege of buying them, I had to take out a home equity loan to pay for them! ;) Oh well, if the money had gone into stocks, it would still be gone & I wouldn't have all the fun of these mini vacations every other week.
Later,
Gary
ksquared,
I had the chance to see the end of your game today - wow, now I understand why you were so nervous! LOL! I wasn't aware of all that led up to the final FG. That was a classic. I imagine ABC was thrilled. ;)
Nebraska is home for us. It's a night game on ABC also @ 8:00 on the 14th. I'll be at that one for sure even tho I understand someone was selling tickets on Ebay for $600 a pop! Chances are I may regret that decision around 11:00 that night but you never know. As they say, that's why they play the game.
Gary
Hi Ksquared,
I guess we both should be smiling today. Since I was at our game Sat., I didn't get to see any of yours but I was keeping close tabs on the score. I was glad they pulled it out. It sounds like your kicking game made it much more exciting - depending on your point of view, I reckon. ;)
Our guys looked good at times & bad at times but I saw a lot of promise on both sides of the ball. It was the first game so I tend to discount the bad stuff. I think as per usual JoePa got a little too conservative towards the end letting UCF score 2 TD's in the last 8 min. making the final much closer than it was. Our secondary is the weak link anyway(he used 2 freshman on Sat.) and UCF is a passing team so they moved the ball very effectively all day. I'd like to see a little more pressure up front and they have the horses to do it so I hope Joe will oblige until the secondary can gel.
I also think we will be a high scoring team. Not only do we have a very good QB in Mills, but it looks like we have the makings of a good running game too. I'm not so optimistic to predict a conference championship but we'll go bowling this year and after the last couple of years, that in itself will be a huge success. BTW, thanks for the article on Mills. I enjoyed it.
Well, we're both undefeated at this point - I'm satisfied, and you? <g>
WE ARE ......
.......PENN STATE! LOL!
Gary
ksquared,
OSU looked good yesterday - particularly the freshman RB. It appears they've finally found the head coach they've been searching for. Hopefully, he can refrain from cold cocking any opposing DB's. <g>
I watched some of the Nebraska game last night too. Lee Corso doesn't think they've got the horses they normally have but they'll get better & better with each game - they always do. Corso's an ass anyway. The Howard Cosell of college football, IMO.
my weekday rise and shine time is 4:00 a.m. (love that typical jersey commute)
I had to chuckle over your comment. You probably don't want to hear this but my morning drive time is 2 min. - 3 if I happen to hit THE light. However, I usually give myself 5 min. just in case traffic is bad. LOL!
I'll check out the "rant" thread when I get the chance - bitchin' & a fellow Nit. It don't get any better than that! <g>
k2,
I caught the end of the Badger game last night - glad they were able to hold on to a slim victory especially after Va. lost Thurs. night in a close one to Col. State.(also a future opponent of PSU).
The injury bug has begun for us - lost a 2 year starter @ D-back the other day for the season. Torn ligament, I believe. Depth may be a big problem. I'm hoping the youngsters mature quickly.
I'm going to State College this coming weekend for the 1st game, Central Fla. I'm not sure what to expect from either team at this point. Hopefully, PSU can gain some valuable play time in preparation for the big game on the 14th w/Nebraska. We have on off week in between. We were originally scheduled to play Va. @ home but they discovered they accidently scheduled 2 games on the same day. LOL! A football doubleheader, I guess. Kinda like playing William & Mary. ;)
Beano Cook is predicting we win 9 or 10 games this year - a bit optimistic, I think, but Beano has been a Paterno fan for years so it doesn't surprise me too much. I imagine he's basing that on the 8 game home stand & the fact that we have a very good QB - FINALLY! BTW, your story last week would have been the '94 game up in A2. That's the year we went undefeated & won the NC - too bad the pollsters have yet to realize that fact. <g>
Let the games begin,
Gary
ksquared,
is there a rule about when the conference teams can go up against each other... i.e. don't see why we can't drop some of the out of conference games to play every one... or am I just missing the math?
It's the $$$$$$$ - if they only played the other Big ten schools, it would be on a home/away schedule. Each school would have the same # of home games. By scheduling the also rans who are willing to play away for the money, they can end up with 6,7 or even 8 home games like we have this year:
08/31/02 Central Florida H 12:10 PM
09/14/02 Nebraska H 8:00 PM
09/21/02 Louisiana Tech H 12:10 PM
09/28/02 Iowa H
10/05/02 Wisconsin A
10/12/02 Michigan A
10/19/02 Northwestern H 12:10 PM
10/26/02 Ohio State A
11/02/02 Illinois H
11/09/02 Virginia H
11/16/02 Indiana A
11/23/02 Michigan State H
What low budget school wouldn't be willing to take a thrashing in front of 107,000 fans & at least regional TV for a paycheck in the millions?
BTW, that 8 game home schedule is certainly in our favor this year. Too bad 3 of the 4 away games are against you guys, OSU & Wisconsin. :(
Well, I guess you told me! ;)
Let's just say that these last 2 years have been very humbling for all Nits. Whether JoPa has enough left in him or not is yet to be seen but I'm not sure the fans are ready for JayPa or whoever may be waiting in the wings either - kinda like the, "be careful what you wish for, it might come true" thingy.
As far as the conference, you can imagine how we felt finding out we were joining a bunch of yahoos who couldn't count to eleven! LOL!
Anyway, I won't be traveling to Ann Arbor this year so I'll wish you the best now and leave you with this:
A guy is in a bar with his dog, watching the Penn State vs. Michigan game. The Lions surprisingly manage to get a field goal and the dog barks repeatedly. The bartender looks at the dog in awe. After a while the Lions score a touchdown and the dog does flips and dances across the bar. Then, the bartender looks at the guy and says, "Man, that's amazing. What does your dog do when Penn State beats Michigan?" The guy replied, "I dunno, I've only had him 5 years."
:)
Gary (PSU grad & resident, thank you)
It's good to see Texas return to the status they once had. They should have a great year if the talent is what it appears. I must say however that Mr. Simms doesn't have much of a fan club here in Pa. - I imagine the same would hold true for Tenn. also. :)
I expect my team will be much improved over the last couple of years - any worse & I will consider changing my username. The biggest plus for us is the emergence of a QB in Zack Mills (also a southpaw). If they can establish a running game to go with the solid passing game, we just may surprise some people. Hopefully, the first to be surprised will be "Big Red" on 9/14 - but realistically, I will be happy with a close competitive game at this point.
Good luck to all!!
Gary
If you have the chance, be sure to catch any of the "Doo Wop" series produced by WQED in Pittsburgh (T.J. Lubinsky) and syndicated throughout the country on all Public T.V. stations. They just recently filmed the latest titled "Red, White & Rock" (a 3 night affair) - not sure when it's scheduled to air.
They have brought back many, many of the stars from the 50's & 60's and each show has been spectacular IMO. From what I understand, these shows have had the highest Public Tele. ratings the last few years and have contributed millions to Public TV.
Great, great stuff!
http://www.wqed.org/tv/doowop/index.html
Good thread, BTW. I look forward to reading & contributing when I can.
Gary
Princess,
this is a total of 311,191,500 AMJC which is 51.9% of 600 million or 31.1% of 1 billion or ?% of ? AMJC outstanding.
Nice sense of humor. ;)
Princess,
Many of us have filed complaints of one kind or another - I imagine they are deluged with similar mailings regarding other OTCBB stocks too. It's the nature of the beast I guess. If you're waiting for AMJC to become "normal", I think it will be a long wait.
I voted my shares - against everything, of course. Not that it means much with their 54% voting control. You may want to vote "for" at least one of the proposals. Since most everyone else will be voting against & mgmt. will be voting "for", your votes would stand out like a sore thumb. A non-vote is treated as a "no".
I don't believe I've ever disclosed my position (other than that I have one) on any stock I own. I doubt I will ever change that procedure simply because I don't like broadcasting my financial condition over the internet. I just don't feel comfortable doing that. It's not peculiar to this stock. I do realize it's a bit hypocritical considering I'm questioning you about yours but then your father decided to make that public a long time ago. ;)
Princess,
I'm still trying to find a reason why you haven't filed any forms with the SEC. If they were held in trusts & you didn't have "control", I could see where you would not be "beneficial owners" under SEC definition, altho even then I'd think someone else would.
At any rate, if you do have voting control, that is one of the criteria - I don't believe that the custodian feature under UGMA would have any bearing on this situation. I'm still baffled - either you have them & are in violation of SEC rules, you have them & there is some exclusion that I'm not aware of, or you simply don't have them. Surely you & your Father can understand why so many question your ownership?
As far as my ownership, I am still long this stock. Thanks for responding.
Leia,
Are these shares by chance held in trust accounts? If so, are the three of you beneficiaries of these trusts but not the actual trustees? Also, are they revocable or irrevocable trusts?
LOL! I think that was an episode of Seinfeld - the one where George gets into the argument with a clown about Bozo at a birthday party.
So who is it "he" thinks you are? I wasn't following that at all today. I don't think I've ever met such a hateful person.
Leia,
I think at this point I would support Bozo the Clown if nominated. BTW, I imagine your father was thrilled to learn he "was moving on in years". ;)
And it just occurred to me that you probably have no idea who "Bozo" is/was. It's a generational thing, I guess.
Hello PrincessLeia,
Thank you for that info. I will assume that WHB is your father - how come he hasn't taken advantage of posting here?
I still question his thinking on this stock but I've made enough mistakes investing to realize I may be wrong on this one.
I wish you well.
Dave,
I didn't think it was you but they really had me wondering. I have no idea who is who over there anymore! ;)
This whole story would make a good(?)TV mini series.
Mornin' Dave,
I trust they're feeding you well in RB jail. Anxiously awaiting to see what happens with the volume this week now that the "record date" has come & gone.
I've had trouble getting in here lately - this place is still a work in progress IMO.
Even tho the volume began decreasing last month, I think Mike & Horseshoer have made some excellent observations recently. Last year the volume swelled right after the ex-date for the meeting (Dec. 14th this year) and Hanukkah began yesterday and ends next Monday.
It will be interesting to see what happens the first of next week.
Hi Mike,
What's the story on how low a stock is permitted to trade? Does it make a difference whether they are on an exchange or on the pinks? Where does the OTCBB fit into all this?
I don't hink I've ever been straight on this.
Horse,
I don't know for a fact that everyone was TOS'd but I did hear from 1 individual by e-mail and I found WHB on Yahoo and he indicated that he was "prevented from posting on RB" at the present time.
Once something like that starts, it becomes extremely contagious. I'd rather hear all sides to a story even tho in this case, I'm not real sure how many sides there are to hear. ;)
$30? - Look at it this way, you could have invested in MTNA.
Say what you want but keep in mind that I am the board moderator and as such, I have the power to TOS anyone I wish! :)
Truthfully, I have no intention of tossing anyone - that's what got us here to begin with.
