IMO...If this rally continues, it looks like Friday's peg of IDCC at $42 could end up being very expensive to unwind. Costlier than the money made by the peg. IMO.
olddog or anyone, Does IDCC still have the same 10b5-1 plan in effect for stock repurchase? For years they have been under the rules where they give their broker discretion to repurchase stock at any time with certain parameters. There is another alternative within 10b5-1 where the Company can dictate on an ongoing basis, how many shares and at what price. Under this scenario they have to be mindful of when they can buy vis-a-vis certain restrictions like not buying between a quarter's end and the report of earnings, but it does give them more control. Just curious if the same plan is in effect. TIA.
scooby...Is this the first time you have noticed IDCC trading out of sync with the market??
Yes. I am intrigued by these new technologies and believe they most likely will be deployed at the carrier level. Just have no idea how close we might be and what configuration revenues would take.
I hope you are right, my friend. No, question this is not your father's IDCC!
Best to you.
AMC....I understand your hopefulness. Unfortunately many here, including myself have, over the years, connected dots that make a lot of sense but, in reality have not yet evolved into actual dots. I share your enthusiasm but I have, for many years now, garnered a lot of useful information (in fact have relied on the contributions) from several learned posters on this board. No offense, but your post does not fit into this category. JMO.
AMC...Do you have any corroborative reasons for your prediction of IDCC's "direct involvement", or is it just a hope (or guess)? TIA.
Believe what you will. EOM.
All of this thread concerning Mr. Jayson and the "hypothetical" manipulation of equities in general and IDCC in particular underscores my relentless assertion that THE GAME IS RIGGED. It is no longer a zero-sum game and hasn't been for a number of years now. Can we now put to rest the perspective that there is a reason, every day, that a stock does what it does?? I.e., it was oversold or overbought or whatever?? The REASON is big money is doing their thing: scalping the honest, well-meaning, trusting investor every single day. IMO.
Curious..RE: Seth. Has anyone look at whether there is a common theme of large short positions in the companies he has tried to dis?
Looks like our buddy Seth is doing a little CYA:

MPJ..Actually it is not baffling at all. It is either manipulators or foolish retail investors who absolutely have to buy or sell and can't wait for the regular session. In either case, there is little to be gained by paying any attention to it. IMO.
Data...what a bunch of hogwash. Days Sales Outstanding and Acct.s Rec. I'll say it doesn't fit the model! Liars figuring, I guess. IMO.
poch......I was a young man when I bought my first shares of IDCC. Now I'm retired and still am waiting for IDCC to reach its real value. There have been numerous people who used to populate this board who have passed on. But for the criminal, lying, cheating manipulators on WS, perhaps they would have seen the achievement of that value. IMO.
wsatit(still).....Could not agree with you more re: WS crooks. eom.
Every day, I continue to be incredulous of the fact that people still explain stock price movements in the context of a free-market, zero-sum paradigm. It no longer exists, folks; and it hasn't for years now. Wake up!
marchma...I picked the 20% from your post #314780. I know that my post was not entirely accurate. I was just trying to point out that, when all is said and done, what is currently happening vis-a-vis IDCC's recent additions to its licensee base, the potential lost revenues due to the Japan crisis will be more than offset. There are so many moving parts at this time that it is a meaningless exercise to assume that Japan's difficulties will result in a negative for IDCC. My main point was intended to underscore the fact that, with IDCC's new initiatives in bandwidth management, etc., and its publicly stated numerous business opportunities, any potential shortfall is specious at this point. Certainly, IDCC is not obligated to amend its projections for Q1. Thanks for your (always) to-the-point input.
Whatever the ultimate impact on our Japanese licensees' sales, it will have no impact on IDCC's Q1 as Q1's receipts are for Q4 sales. Similarly, with regard to Q2, sales reported from Q1 will include almost the entire quarter. I.e., assuming the roughly $80M now forecast for Q1, $16M would be the Japanese contribution less approximately $2M+(sales lost in the final 18 days of the quarter). I believe our recent licensees, who are paying per-unit royalties, will more than make up for this $2M or so. JMO.
OT..poch...True, but often it seems that some of our members are! lol
Jim...I agree 100%. Many of these purchase and sale posts are BS. Even if they weren't, who cares? I also think that posts of pre-market activity and bids and offers are a waste of board space. I doubt if there is anyone, who is actually tuned into the board at any given time, doesn't have access to a quote service. JMO.
Sloane...OT...Then I guess it's safe to say you didn't take 15 minutes to read the link I posted yesterday on this matter.
Sloane...Don't know if these particular trades are manipulations but, just out of curiosity, who besides MMs and hedge funds, manipulate??
RE: short selling, Reg SHO, SEC, etc. I thought this might be of interest.

To all...For all of us who know how our markets work today, those of us who suspect something isn't right and those who who continue to believe in "the system" (in other words, everyone on this board), please, please take the time to read this. Your (our) future depends on having this knowledge. IMO.

nic... without dramatically affecting the share price-exactly! Good strategy. IMO.
nicmar...Re: stock splits: the best job of managing stock-splits I have ever seen was done by a company named Cheyenne Software. They had 10 M shares out and traded at $6 when I first got involved (they were heavily shorted, primarily by the Fishbeck brothers). The universal adoption of their back-up software accelerated the stock price. Every time it got to $40, they did a 3 for 2 split. The stock would then adjust to around $26 but within months would be back to $40. They did this 4 times and ended up being bought by CA for $40 per share (50 M shares= $2B.)
What I would like to see from IDCC is a 3 for 2 split AND a continued $.10 per share divvie on the split shares. JMO.
After reading the ACTG report, I am encouraged. As far as I know this is the first recommendation from a major house of a patent aggregator/NPE. If JPM likes ACTG, they would have to love IDCC. Maybe they do. Maybe they were going to initiate IDCC, but it got away from them. Maybe they are assisting in "managing" the sp into a more favorable range for a recommendation. Yes, just idle musings.
However, giving legitimacy to patent aggregation and the commensurate value as an asset, IMO, is very positive for IDCC going forward.
OT..... These are very interesting times in IDCC land. From what I see, we have:
Short term posters who are very geared to the short term and are destined to lose,
Long term posters who are throwing in the towel and probably won't lose but will leave a lot on the table,
Messiah-types who are scared to death about margin calls,
And the rest of us who continue to believe.
AIMO.
iQ..OT..But I do like the way your mind works!
infinite_q...Not many people are as cynical and suspicious as I. But even I would have to say that these scenarios are very improbable (but not out of the realm of possibility). JMO.
amcsatx..(OT), I suppose. That is because the SEC, the regulators, the press and the government are all captured. Unfortunately, I believe it will take another melt-down of some sort before the masses say enough is enough.
amcsatx...Be careful......This type of article (that exposes the everyday fleecing of everyone who is not part of game) could be interpreted as "political" and therefore deleted. JMO.
triangle....OT...My experience is that those who have made big bets, using margin, are usually so sickened by their fate that they can't speak. I have been, in the now distant past, one of them. Perhaps you have not.
triangle....all those who gave us the publicity when the stock was in the 50's have, now that we are in the 40's, lost their voice.
IMO, a few of the loudest are close to, or are now experiencing, margin calls.
Imagine how bad it would be if FINRA hadn't enacted those new rules changes! TIC.
OT...Thanks Dozer. I understand. No worries. eom.
DR....One LAST comment about the thread last night. I agree with havana. My original post on a follow-up to Taibbi's article was not, in the least, political. If you deem that subsequent replies to my post were political, so be it. But, as I have stated, I am apolitical and am only interested in the restoration of our free and fair markets. If this is not germane to investing in IDCC or any stock, I don't know what is.
Jiff.. Thank you, but i don't trade. eom.
Like I said: it's too obvious. eom.
Thanks, Rox. EOM.
