Yeah, I gotta cut out of here myself. most likely won't be back till Monday morning. Before I go let me sell you on VI.
There is a place called Magen's Bay on St. Thomas Island. Commonly listed among the ten best beaches in the world. It's not extremely big but the best description I can give is to imagine swimming in a giant salt water aquarium, yellow tangs gliding at your feet and sea turtles breaking the surface a couple of arm lengths in front of you. At the top of the mountain behind you is Drake's Seat, where Sir Francis Drake would watch for passing ships. When he spotted a target he would race down the mountain to his pirate fleet moored in the Bay. His victims spent years trying to find where he hid his ships.
And that is just one of the stories these islands have to tell.

Yes, the house I grew up in is only a couple of miles from my home now. I have been fortunate enough to travel to "other places" though and have actually found one I like better. It is my intention to retire there. US Virgin Islands as a base and the rest of the Carribbean for stomping grounds.
I am sure that Mr. Mark will get you rolling. Though if you can't reach him and I am available I'll do what I can.
The Bird of Prey
Nice work!
How about returning us to the profile page when we is through editing? In fact there are a couple of times that we do things and end up in strange locations on IHUB. It would be nice if when we edited our profile, used the person mark or added a board mark, if we could return to the page we were on before we executed that operation. Maybe? Please?
Also, It is great fun watching as people rise and fall on the top members list, good work.
The Bird of Prey
No, it got down into the teens a couple of times during the 80's. We actually had snow fall in '77! It turned to rain about waist high though.
Mighty pretty country up there in autumn and when there is snow on the ground. You should pop a picture in the Ibox.
The Bird of Prey
Personally I don't recommend LOTR for younger children. Some of the stuff in the books is a little too "grown up" for the preteen set. However, a fellow by the name of Brian Jacques (pronounced Jakes) wrote a series of books that are an excellent introduction to fantasy as well as medieval culture. The first book and the series is called "Redwall". Good reading for 8 and up.
The Bird of Prey
Please!
We are not freaks! No more than those who can recite the batting order for game 3 of the 1953 world series or describe in detail what Van Gogh was thinking when he painted Starry Night or can tell every detail of the lives of all four Beatles...
It's just what some of us choose to do with our time. Some people cook, some clean, some collect things, some watch pro wrestling. We immerse ourselves in a place that doesn't have the stresses and problems of our "normal" lives.
That is one of the things I like about going to the movies. For a couple of hours I can watch someone else's world. If I'm lucky things will work out for them and I'll "feel good" when I leave the theatre.
BTW, you'd have real trouble sneaking that sandwich in down here in Florida most of the time...coats look real suspicous in July and August. Though it was 28 this morning. I guess the Bills are bringing some weather to help in their game in Miami Sunday.
The Bird of Prey
Glad to see your still around Frank. Any comments on the 10Q? or AVBC in general. I really haven't been following this too closely over the last few months. Anything going on?
The Bird of Prey
Poet,
Glad to hear your going to LOTR this weekend. I would love to hear your take on Monday. BTW, My parents( both in their late 60's) are taking the grandkids (early teens) to see it this weekend too. I'm expecting them to be impressed as well.
The Bird of Prey
You beat me to the punch Poet! That article makes a lot of assumptions with very little fact to back them up. I guess that kind of thing can happen to anyone. ;0
The Bird of Prey
I have a question...
What "exactly" is Joe being punished for? TOU violation? or just for being stupid?
I noticed he was dismissed after an altercation with MMMARY, during which I think he bragged that he could "get around" any sanctions Matt put in place to stop him. Which is certainly good enough reason for the banishment, IMHO.
BUT, do we have a double standard here? The only real difference, as I see it, between Joemoney and MMMARY is that he is a promoter while she bashes.
So here is Joe banished until he learns...???? while MMMARY continues to challenge Matt, IHUB and all comers In much the same style as Joemoney. In fact if you alter NW's most excellent commentary by exchanging words like rich and wealth for truth and being right, it would apply to MMMARY with great accuracy.
There is no doubt that both Joe and Mary could use a copious dose of humility. It is equally clear that Joe is getting treatment. Surely we have enough to vaccinate two people don't we?
The Bird of Prey
Here we go again!
Just when you think you're out...they pull you back in!
Not again with the abusive moderators issue!
You are correct, after the last go round your changes actually improved things tremendously. I don't agree with the "duh" in reference to OTCBB boards being the most trouble, unless you mean that since OTCBB boards are by far more numerous and more active than NYSE and NAZ related boards. You don't have any other group large enough to officially rate a sample.
For those that have forgotten...
MATT, is the only one with the authority to delete a post, moderators may recommend posts to be deleted but Matt reveiws them all and has the final say. Once a post has been reviewed and restored or 24 hours have passed it stays. PERIOD.
I haven't seen a public whine about deletions since you instituted those rules until today. I guess some folks just can't accept the idea that moderators can be a good thing.
It ain't broke folks...quit trying to "fix" it!
The Bird of Prey
First, I do understand that you must keep the demands on the server as small as possible for some of the things we are talking about when rating members. And I couldn't agree more strongly with keeping "expenses" to a minimum!
Might it be simpler to have the field tag the board rather than the post? That way Matt could decide what makes a board a stock board or a non-stock board. Less overhead too (I think). No chance of abuse and fewer management issues for Matt.
Rarely do you see stock related posts on the Q&A board and OT posts on Stock related boards *should* get deleted (providing a double whammy for the potential abuser!).
I agree with the idea of having a rating system. Just trying to help find a way to keep the list more relevant to the new users needs.
Any chance of luring Shadkin here to IH?
The Bird of Prey
She has already shown us what she is made of...repeatedly.
1. Freely admits posting personal private information about anyone she choses. Threatens opponents with this when her argument fails to hold up to review.
2. Presents ancient (10 or more years old) news as "current" and as support for her "argument".
3. Her opening shot is Namecalling. Either a company officer or her opponent is a liar, con artist, cheat, etc.
While I agree that a negative side must be allowed to be presented, as you have said yourself there are better ways to do it. Even a cursory review of her postings here at IHUB shows she staunchly refuses to alter her tactics. Throw in her exploits at RB and Yahoo, the pattern is clear. She hammers away at the boards of a couple of securities at most. When they reach sub.20 range she moves to another security. Her current focus is NPCT. Watch, if NPCT gets down around .10 she'll be bashing something else. I don't know anything about NPCT. It may be a bad company. But the pattern she shows is clear. She comes in blazing away after the stock has dropped significantly. As I've said before, Where was the great savior of the small investor when ASTN was at $15, or $10, or $5, or $2? It would have been much more relevant to post some of what she had to say before the stock dropped 90%. Same goes for any other company she has bashed. It is easy to kick a dog that is almost dead.
She offers nothing constructive, little that is relevant and generally makes folks feel bad just reading her ranting. Kind of like a certain someone that was booted recently. Ironically, it was right after a fight with her that he got canned.
Surely under the new business structure, the Business Plan she hacked from the site no longer holds any value if she should release it publically as retribution for her being terminated?
That is the only reason you let her get away with all of this isn't it?
Pretty bad when you have to blackmail a message board to keep your posting privileges.

Hog,
I just peoplemarked you and added ten points to your score. You are off the bubble now and Bob won't be knocking you off the list.
BTW, care to name your "select few"?
The Bird of Prey
Don't feel bad about not making it through "The Hobbit"...The author was still living when that was made. You should see some of the letters he wrote to the producers! He was very displeased with what they did.
"A Beatiful Mind" is also on my list of movies to see.
As for the critics choices. As a former DJ and Jazz musician, I still try to keep up with what is going on musically. I had only heard a couple on the list, but if it is typical of most critics...it's crap. They seem to only like things created in the fifth circle of hell.
The Bird of Prey
Bob,
Hot list looks pretty sweet. I also like your idea for making one's own score and it's component parts available to an individual member.
I still would like to see a system for rating individual posts and have that included in your formula. Also factoring in the number of posts deleted would give a better idea of an individual's "quality of contribution".
Every system is open to abuse. Under this system a group of 5 to 10 posters could bookmark each other and post back and forth on a lot of non-stock boards to inflate their postition. We do want people taliking about stocks right?
The Bird of Prey
Several women were in the group. Including my wife and stepdaughter who are not fans of fantasy in general. One young lady who hadn't read the books liked it so much she went out and bought a set just to get the rest of the story. My stepdaughter has been back to see it a second time and my wife said she would go again, but we have to see "ALI" first! Considering how much my wife actually dislikes this genre, that is about as strong an endorsment as you'll ever get.
Although there is a significant amount of swordplay and "guystuff", there is a great deal of real drama going on that will keep the ladies interested too. Also, if you like really good cinematography this is a gorgeous film. I may have to go to New Zealand, it looks fantastic.
Peter Jackson did a very good job of telling the story so that first timers can keep up, yet he didn't alter things so drastically as to anger longtime fans of the books.
IMHO, this is the "Gone with the Wind" of the fantasy genre both in print and on screen.
Try it you'll like it.
The Bird of Prey
Truth be told I am seeking to avoid nastiness and politics wherever I go. My holidays were indeed joyful, a solid reminder that family are the backbone of happiness. At least in my case. ;)
In keeping with friendly banter...
Anyone been to the movies lately? I went to Lord of the Rings with a group of friends, some of whom hadn't even read the books yet, and everyone gave it two thumbs up. One of the best movies in recent memory. It has everything you could want, a good story, beautiful scenery filmed beautifully and several excellent performances. Even if you think you aren't a fan of this kind of story you should see this, it might change your mind about the whole fantasy genre.
The Bird of Prey
Poet,
Glad to see you back here at IHUB. I am hoping your stay will be longer and more pleasant this time. Will you be active on the Options Box thread? Last time we were starting to get into some interesting stuff and I do hope we can continue. Hope you had a great holiday season and may this year be good to you as well.
The Bird of Prey
Excel and friends...
I want to thank you all for being such an inspiration on this thread for the past few months. These have been trying times for us all and the messages here have provided much joy and enlightenment...often when they were needed the most! Keep up the spirit!

Also, have you ever noticed how quickly Joemonkey and the MMMMASKED AVENGER can destroy a civilized conversation?

What a great idea!
Also modified that page so it won't display anyone who is suspended or terminated. I did this upon noting that an erstwhile simian was showing up in it.
Also, How about returning to the message when you membermark someone while reading a message of theirs. It can be annoying to be sent to a profile when you don't want to go there. Maybe give user an option? go to profile or return to message read?
The Bird of Prey
Congratulations!
I am actully glad to see that You and Matt were able to work out an arrangement satisfactory to both of you. It appears that you are going to exploit your strengths and eliminate your weaknesses. It is clear the IHUB needed someone with Bob's capabilities wearing a programmers hat, while keeping Matt and his superb people skills managing the public end. Congratulations on finding this solution. Here's to hoping it works as well in practice and remains stable.
The fixes and changes are all highly appreciated, I personally look forward to the coming attractions here at IHUB. I hope everyone has had a wonderful holiday season and may all have a prosperours New Year!

husker,
I will try to accurately respond to your question.
If you refer to the character from the television and movie series I will remind you that he is not a real person and therefore cannot "be" anywhere. However in the interest of thoroughness, in the series he was last seen on Romulus, aiding a group of revolutionaries in changing how Romulans deal with the rest of the universe.
If you refer to the actor Leonard Nimoy...
I am not in the habit of shadowing public figure and as such have no knowledge of his whereabouts at this time.
Have a Nice Day!
The Bird of Prey
nyc,
I'd be careful where Matt's favorite babe is concerned. Ms. Cyndi is right special to our intrepid Admin and any percieved disrespect could result in dire consequences.
as for what is posted on the swamp... that will be up to the folks posting to the swamp. As long as it is within the TOU and hopefully common decency there shouldn't be a problem.
Concerning Autotrol Water Softeners...
You have used up all of your available technical support credits. All further querys will need to be placed in writing (triplicate) and forwarded to corporate HQ with a check for $100 per question.
Have a nice day!

nyc,
If Matt doesn't mind, I think I can help you with your dilema.
You have certainly gotten full use of the original equipment. the likelyhood of failure for the existing parts is quite high as they have certainly exceeded their designed MTBF. I would recomend replacing the entire timer and hope that you see another 30 years of service before replacement, most of them don't ever see ten much less 30!
In answer to your second question...
IHUB is now a two tiered arrangement. A "free" membership wich allows posting to the public stock boards only, and a "premium" plan which provides additional access to the clubs and other benefits (some coming soon).
Hope this helps!
The Bird of Prey
nyc,
You may as well ask me not to draw breath. these words and phrases are my hallmark, my calling card if you will. Over the decades I have found this style to be most effective...especially in places like the parking lot!
Although I am a long time trekkie (not trekker, trekkie. I go that far back.), my nom de plume is a reference to my tendency to be quite successful in what are still affectionately referred to as "flame wars". I was using the handle in the late seventies to compliment my interest in eagles, falcons, owls and the rest of the raptors when a fellow poster claimed my "flaming" ablility rivaled that of the ultimate Bird of Prey, The mythical Dragon. Needless to say the name stuck. When the Klingon Bird of Prey was introduced in ST III so much the better.
Have fun stormin' the castle!
The Bird of Prey
Perhaps they will try to take it to the ultimate extreme and deliver pages without any pesky content whatsoever!
The Bird of Prey
Actually, kind poster...
a quick review of my posting history yields information that my use of this handle/alias not only predates the existence of SI, but the WWW as well.
I have not, nor would I ever consider posting on SI. I did represent for a time over on RB, but that grew tiresome rather quickly. Yahoo didn't make the cut either.
PLease refrain from including me with the group described in your post. I merely continue to lurk here at IHUB, awaiting real, sensible investment and speculative discourse. In the interim I will respond to those that I deem suitible for a response.
BTW, I do aprreciate your humorous turn on my alias. It shows some wit. Something many former post exchangers lacked.
As for what the SI Crowd is up to these days...your guess is as good as any.

The Bird of Prey
'Twas the night before Christmas...
from a long time ago, in a place too close to home...
'Twas the night before Christmas
And all through the house,
Things were real mellow...
Even Irving, the Mouse.
Our boots were hung up,
The incense was lit,
In hope that St. Nick
Would soon do his bit.
The tree was decked out;
It was really a sight,
With love beads and flowers
And a flashing strobe light.
Wearing my T-shirt
From Woodstock Nation,
I was just getting into
Some good meditation.
My chick was doing
Some yoga in bed,
Munching a fruit cake,
While propped on her head.
Then...POW!!...in the night...
...a hullabaloo!
It shook the whole waterbed
And woke up Old Blue.
I stumbled around
And tripped on my beard.
It stuck to my toes
and felt really weird.
When I got to the window,
I was really uptight,
'Cause the scene I perceived
Was a mind blowing sight!
What through my shades
Did I see through the snow,
But eight tiny mooses and a wild U.F.O.!
With this hip dude inside,
Looking kinky and groovy...
I flashed..."If this ain't Nick,
It must be the late movie."
They blew in from the cosmos
Like some far-out caboose
And this Fat Cat kept yelling
At each midget moose.
"Right on, Dasher! On, Dancer!
GET IT ON...DO YOUR THING.
Get your boots in high gear, now,
And move this machine!"
Then onto the roof
They flew with a shout,
The whole Kosmic Crew
Really freaked me me out!
They caused such a hassle
And made such a fuss,
I feared someone would call
The fuzz down on us.
But before I could say. " COOL IT!...
HOLD DOWN THAT LOUD JIVE,'
Nick zapped toward the chimney
And leaped in with a dive!
As he trucked from the fireplace,
His smile all agleam,
I thought, "IT'S UNREAL!
It must be a dream!"
Then he nodded and said,
"This isn't a bummer...
Like, I've come in peace,
To groove my Yule Number."
His duds were all fur,
trimmed in leather and such
And he came on Stone Funky...
...He was really too much.
His back pack was painted
With black-light festoon
Full of albums and posters
And a neon balloon.
His eyes, a light show!
His beard da-glo bright!
A plastic, fantastic,
Kaleidoscope sight!
He looked like a guru
This beautiful cat...
And I thought, Like wow!...
This dude knows wherre it's at!
"Don't want to sound heavy,"
He said with a grin,
"My message is simple
So dig it...tune in."
"I brought you some goodies,
But that's not the thing,
My real trip is bringing
Good vibes to this scene."
So we rapped until dawn
About Peace, Love and Truth,
Then he said, "Gotta split, now,
or I'll be late in Duluth."
And he wiggled his nose saying,
"I did my bit"
And straight up the smoke hole
That Fat Cat did split!
AS he sped from the roof
and into the air,
He shouted, "Let's get it together,
all you people down there!
Merry Christmas to All
And to All a Good Night!
And then in a flash,
He streaked out of sight!!!
(REALLY OUTTA' SIGHT!)
The Bird of Prey
I agree in part...
Anything that that has volume can be charted. There are a large number of OTCBB issues that have extremely low or almost no trading at all. While it is technically correct that trading on a regular basis establishes a pattern...if that 'regular basis' is one 10k share trade a month, little useful TA will be available. However with an issue like ASTN, trading is more frequent and therefore certainly lends itself to TA. My experience has led me to a 100-300K per day minimum volume as a "floor" for reliable TA with the better results coming at the upper end of that scale. I have reviewed ASTN's charts and concur with your findings.
Have a great day.

Your reading comprehension problem rears it's head again...
From the referenced post:
"According to http://www.nasdaq.com/about/nnm1.stm Companies must have Either $10 million in Stockholders equity OR $4 million in net tangible assets (if the company qualified prior to July 2001 as ASTN did). This is outlined in note #1 on the page referenced above.
You have pointed out yourself that ASTN has ~3.6 million in net assets. This means that in order to clear this third hurdle they would need to add ~$400,000 cash to meet that requirement. I believe the amount accessed in the most recent financing did exceed $400K by a significant amount. On 9/21/01 they drew 1.2 million from the equity line."
The "net assets" requirement exception is good until November 2002. The bid price and float exceptions are good until January 2, 2002 as of today. It is possible that NASDAQ will extend that time, though there is no guarrantee that it will extend the exemption.
A lot of things both good and bad can happen between now and January...even more between now and Novemeber. Delisting is a dead issue until NASDAQ makes a decision on what will happen in January.
If you have something that isn't 10 years old or irrelevant...by all means bring it up. Otherwise you are just making noise.
