What’s InterDigital, Inc. Upside After Reaching 52-Week High?
http://www.consumereagle.com/whats-interdigital-inc-upside-after-reaching-52-week-high/136846/
DOESN'T NAME WHO PUT AN EARINGS TARGET OF 95
hrbart: Wish I could pull the trigger and sell a little also. With all the 'extraordinary' items this tax year, I am getting clobbered with taxes. Don't want to add gains to the gains I already have.
We both decided to hold off any sale of IDCC until 2017, so I hope the price holds or goes up from here. Maybe with any luck, we could have LG, ZTE, Huawei, and one or two other big companies resolved favorably.
I would love for IDCC to pay a special dividend if we put to bed some of the legal issues. I'll pay the taxes on those dividends with pleasure.
Here's hoping.

Also, going to River's today.
SO, will we break and hold above 69-oreeno today?
I think we have a good shot at it. We shall see !

Engine and transmission put in an Edsel model car. LOL

mickey: Lets see if I can answer some of your questions:
Do all the companies I mention remain unlicensed?
Yes
Do all probably owe back money?
<Maybe, depending on various litigation claims and results
You buy stock on what should happen in the future that makes the stock worth more
Currently, I rarely speculate on stocks. Rather, I buy dividend paying stocks with PROVEN earnings and REASONABLE projections of NEAR TERM revenues
Has IDCC won a court decision against ZTE?
Yes, HOWEVER, they are appealing and the jury's not out with the FINAL FINAL NO GOING BACK VERDICT
Has IDCC HAD A 3G LICENSE WITH LG Yes that expired Yes and LG lost the right to arbitrate?NO, courts found that LG did not have a fully paid up license. IDCC now has to try to license or sue.
Did not both Nokia and Microsoft declare that IDCC was asking to much for their patents? Not sure if it was lip talk or whether they declined to license at the terms proposed and perhaps do not use the patents in question or patents are invalid or rates proposed were unFRANDly; Jury not out on all claims yet.
Do you think Lenovo, Xaomi, Foxconn, to name a few owes IDCC money? Has IDCC proven that these companies use valid patents of IDCC and have they sued or tried to arbitrate a rate with them?
As to M2M, IoT, and other fvuture products, I don't count my chickens until they are hatched (or licensed); IDCC may sell of the patents and not generate any future revenues.
AAs to being optimistic or a pessimist, I'm a realist that believes what I see and not what I dream
As to being short, sold already, or sold calls 've been in IDCC since before 1999 and have sold only when necessary or forced to sell and hold what I hold in hopes that my speculation was correct back then and my kids will benefit from this home run; but if I'm wrong and it goes to aero, my loss is my original investment which is $130,000 and while it hurts, it's a big write-off of future gains
mickeybritt, if everything you dream of happens, I will be happy and my kids will be as happy as a pig in mud and like a clam in high tide (some of my deceased father-in-law's favorite sayings)!
You have expressed your opinion and now I have expressed mine.
mickey: When you are citing amounts, you need to back it up with facts, as follows:
Year for sales: Units made (subject to royalty payment) x royalty rates = amount owed.
That would then make it easier for someone to understand what the basis of your opinion is.
Wall street prices shares on KNOWN facts; Speculation of winning or losing a court case or arbitration is not part of their factors for determining share price; otherwise our selling price would be triple what it is.
REMEMBER: I'm from Missouri and I've got to be shown.
mickeybritt: You can express an 'OPINION' on any statement not requiring support or facts:
FOR EXAMPLE:
Huawei will NOT settle this year but it will settle in 2017
ZTE will not pay what they owe but will appeal their decision and lose the appeal
LG will not pay for 6 years of back owed money.
LG will take 5 years of litigation and settle for peanuts.
WHEN IT COMES TO FINANCIAL AMOUNTS: you need to show numbers for units covered and use 'your opinion' on a per unit cost and then say how much they owe.
The street has IDCC's share price at what it is given the KNOWN FACTS about sales and projections.
The street doesn't take unknowns and establish a value and add it to the stock price. FOR EXAMPLE, Huawei will sell 20 billion devices per year and we will get 41 per device and it will give us $20 billion dollars in revenues.
I think it was Tom Carpenter who did projections and excluded the unknowns of Nokia because he just didn't feel confident on a victory. I hink he might have said IF NOKIA WAS INCLUDED, IT WOULD GENERATE AN ADDITIONAL $XXX. IN REVENUES, BUT I'M NOT COUNTING IT (or something like that).
Share prices are not based on what they could bring, but more like what they could bring given past performance and short term projections, which may be adjusted because of economic or other conditions.
NOW, if you want to back up your amounts with actual facts, then put together a simple spreadsheet from their annual financials to support your amounts. For Example:
Year + Unit Sales + Per Unit Royalty = Revenues owed

magilla nnd olddog: Sounds like a deal in the making between Google and InterDigital.
Maybe now, they will make the right move and propose a business merger between the two companies.
A better deal than the Motorola deal where they bought MOT for $12.5 billion. Heck, I think the IDCC management would take half of what Mot sold for. I certainly would vote YES !
salerfreeee: You cand update the chart to a timeframe up to 10 years I believe. There is a button near the bottom of the charts.

Hope this helps

Will we surge past the $69-0reeno and take a stab at the $70-oreeno mark?
Any positive news on any of the litigation fronts will push us into these levels.
Lets hope this still has long legs to continue its journey into tougher levels to achieve.
BLTA
Will there be a $68-oreeno today?
How about a $69-oreeno?
Here's hoping!
la-idcc-fan, not to split hairs but:
on 12-30-1999 the intra day high was $82.00 and the closing high on 12-31-1999 was $75.00
On 7-21-2011 the intra day high was $82.50 and the closing price was $74.27.
Coincidence that both Intra-day highs were arround $82 and Closing price was in the $74-$75 range?
These two periods were as Alan Greenspan coined the phrase "irrational exuberance", a time of speculative fervor. This was evidenced by the run up and subsequent fall back of the stock price to more realistic levels.
IMO, there was more "irrational exuberance", in 2011 when InterDigital put itself up for 'sale'. People had visions of sugar plums dancing in their heads, and stock prices pegged by some at $200; $300, and $392 per share in a buyout. All was spurred by the sale of the Nortel patents.
Today, the climate is different. The street has been cautious in assigning a valuation per share to a company with many litigation matters before it. Only now is it beginning to move to a realistic valuation based on what has happened, ala ZTE, Huawei, Sharp, and perhaps others that will soon follow.
As tehse things come to a resolution (hopefully in favor of InterDigital), the share price will continue to move up in proportion to the risk / reward. In the near term, we WILL NOT SEE $200 like mickeybritt thinks, but who knows. In the near term, the $70's and $80's can be achieved as issues are resolved.

WOW! Am I seeling things? I left my computer on and went out for 2 hours. Came back and see that the message board is different.
For one, the print is bigger and easier to read. I-hub must know that IDCC investors are much older now and have difficulty reading the posts.
And the buttons have changed between next and previous post as well as post a message or reply.
Great job. Someone is finally thinking of us 'OLD TIMERS' !
tHAT'S THE GAMBLER IN US GUYS.
mY WIFE DOESN'T WANT TO BUY ANY STOCKS, SO IF WE SELL, SHE WANTS THE CASH IN A BANK.
we have OnLine Savings Accounts at 2 banks paying 1.00% and 1.05% interest. We transfer dividends directly to the banks when paid.
Beats the Chicago bank rates. I used to have savings at Chase, but now they pay 0.01 to 0.03% interest. Even their CD rates suck.
SO, my deal is if we sell any IDCC, we buy an equal amount of stocks with dividends, which will go to the bank when paid. I'm starting off with 1000 shares of IDCC to see if she bites. She's thinking about that right now.
I think we need to go to either the Texas Fast-track courts OR seek binding arbitration on the basis of continual use of patents after the expiration of the original license which had no provisions for a fully paid up license at expiration.
But first, we need to meet with them and say what we want versus what they are willing to pay and then go from there. We could start with where the license terms expred at those same terms, and scale them down year by year based on useage. We can even offer a percentage discount IF they come to terms within 30 days.
We could also give them a forward-looking license based on their current useage, and include 4-G and more if they choose, for a 3-year term. That would bring their license to expire around 2019 - 2020, when 5-G kicks in.
They would also get some benefit from all the newer bells nd whistles (m2m, IoT,, and the other things in the pipelines.
The main thing is to strike while the iron is hot (ala Huawei).

mickeybritt: IF the price approaches $80, I am sure many longs will be selling, some, if not all, of their shares.
I may decide to begin an orderly selloff of my tax free shares, unless we have some licenses IN HAND, with indications of more to come.
As to my taxable side of the portfolio, I just don't know if I want to sell some also or like I did in the past, hold on for a much higher price.
I'm afraid to discuss it with my wife; I know what she will say -- SELL; SELL; SELL That has been her 'Screaming message" since 1999 and the othr run-ups.
dws (and DataRox): Time to bait the hooks and put a $75 sell limit order to see if the 'big boys' bite.
It may spark a bit of a run-up beyond the normal activity.

Here is what others are thinking:
hrbart: 68 would be nice but I doubt it.
I would hope to see $70's by the end of the week, BUT I think we will see a small pullback.
We've come a long way since the Huawei announcement(s) as well as the SHARP settlement.
We now need a FINAL resolution of Huawei with an all inclusive contract with rates set.
It would also be a market mover if ZTE and some of the others were put to bed in short order.
Merritt had better get his 'best in cluass licensing team (including himself) out on the road knocking on doors with licenses to be signed in hand. There are just about 4-1/2 months left in Fiscal Year 2016 to break the revenue barriers and show whether we have it or not.

YEP, JUST SAW $67.04 FLASH BY THE SCREEN.
$67 OREENO today?
olddog: Thank you.
olddog: I was thinking in terms of LG using as its defense against IDCC for not renewing their license with IDCC the possibility that LG is saying they no longer use IDCC patents and therefore do not need to re-license with us (at least for the period of time that is in dispute with Qualcomm vs LG).
olddog: We are thinking of putting our IDCC stock (and other stocks) into two living trusts. Our cost basis averages around $5 - $6 per share on IDCC.
Before we meet with attorneys and accountants, is there some 'guideline' we can review as to whether taxes would be due when we transfer the assets?
TIA
olddog: Is LG saying in settling the dispute that they do not use IDCC technology and therefore as a defense owe nothing to InterDigital?
Let's start some buyout chanting:
Intel! Intel!
Cisco! Cisco!
Qualcomm! Qualcomm!
Google! Google!
Samsung! Samsung!
How about "Hip! Hip! Huawei! (pronounced 'Who Wei') ! LOL
HRBART: I'll be going some time later this afternoon after the market closes. Gonna take some of my paper gain and put it on the reels.
I'll be at the slots near the tables with my wife. I'm the good looking guy with a mustache. LOL
pochemunyet: Somebody's pulling us to higher oreeno's.
Gotta be Ranger, up in the promised land. Thanks Ranger! Just wish you could still be with us to finally enjoy the ride up! Hope 'The Bea' is still holding some shares.
MJP: Ouch is right! could be because of the following coment:
The company said it's "prudent" to revise its full-year sales target to $190 million-$200 million vs. Wall Street expectations for $217.7 million.
"We are confident that the underlying growth fundamentals of our long-term outlook remain robust, but near-term, we expect our revenue growth will be delayed by about six months," said CFO Sidney Rosenblatt.
hrbart: I was hoping for a quick run-up to the $65 oreeno level early into the trading. Close but no cigar *as of now).
Time to spend some of those 'paper gains' at the Rivers! 'll take part of that 'virtual special dividend' and put it in some slots tonight.
Hope at the close, we are over $65.

The 64 oreeno didn't stick but maybe it will come back at closing!
Lets hope for the best!
bulldzr: You're well sheltered. 66% of our portfolios are in taxable accounts and 33% are in IRA's. The dividends from these accounts are split pretty much the same way.
One day, if I can convince my wife, we will meet with an accountant and estate planner and seek out any possibility of sheltering most of the money to avoid paying taxes, if at all possible.
Don't know if there is a way, but I would sure like to find out.
M6: When IDCC was looking at strategic alternatives (and possible sale) I started to track 40 dividend paying stocks with good yields. I have listed the month-end closing prices each month. Most of them were in the utilities arena, with a few drug, tobacco, and telecom carrier stocks.
Only 1 went bad; the others have seen good appreciation, increased dividends, and some buy-outs and/or mergers. Overall, the portfolio is up and the dividends are great.
I wish IDCC would have been bought out back thenat around the $80 level I would have taken the procceds of the buyout and bought 500 - 1000 shares of each company, collected the dividends, and been able to sleep like a baby. ( I did buy some in my list for our personal accounts, and these have done well.)
I am hoping to get one more opportunity to do this if IDCC reaches my 'whisper target price'.
bulldzr: I'm with you. I will bite the bullet and pay taxes on my gains.
Unless there were another way to shelter the gains that I am not aware of. Do you have any thoughts on how to shelter the gains?
TIA
I have Intel in my IRA portfolio; held it for years and am at a loss.
Intel is one company that IF they did a buyout, I hope it would be a cash buyout and NOT a stock swap. Their stock price sucks. I don't see any big rise in this stock over the coming years.
And now --- sixty-two O-REEN-O ! ! !
Do I hear 63 ? ? ?
