Sky already fell, moon is coming now...
Not at all, very solid financials, probably helped by others folding... at the right price I am buying. Fire sale price, that is, lol
Aside from SCOTUS in June (and I am unsure they provide retrospective relief), other court dates are in 2021, unless Judge Atlas appears from long term cryogenic storage, finally
The inaction is concerning. Does Treasury screw Paulsen etc. by putting them in receivership?
Yeah, that is worrying...
Bankrupted it twice...
Donot, I learned from 2008, all about whether a company can stand 3-4 months of tough times and the timeline on the debt load is manageable... A lot of energy companies going bankrupt, but the best pipleines, and companies, are not going anywhere. Same for the top-line malls and companies... (You also need to know about corporate governance, I am not investing with Kinder or Simon - complete a-holes imho...)
Donot, could not agree more with all of your points, and policy suggestions
But they are focused on what is good for the country, but the administration focuses on what is good for re-election -- and that is coming very starkly into focus. They just keep digging that hole for themselves...
Going to be a huge down day today, and tomorrow is Friday which is usually worse...
Guido, you are strictly right, but Calabria controls factors that will determine shareholder profits (or lack thereof) -- terms of capital rule, SPSA amendments...
Now seeing why acting when you can, rather than leaving things to the last moment, is always a good strategy - Treasury has royally screwed this up imho
Hi donot, I have a wish list of well capitalized, profitable companies in hard hit areas (pipeline MLPs, mall reits), so I use that in times like these. The general market was so crazily over-valued I stayed away, still think it is over-valued...
Easing into a position in pipeline MLP's, waiting on Mall REITS and solid European banks. But easing into position is a good idea, completely agree. Who knows where we trade, so that is what I have been doing.
I *hope* by the Fall that areas with panic selling will have made up a large part of the dip, that is my strategy.
All my professional conferences are cancelling left and right. We are just seeing the spread in the midwest start -- Indiana Universities shutting campuses now, cases appearing across the state. Probably the same across all the midwest states now catching-up to WA and NY given the failure of the Federal government to act...
Get the money back that you can on your flights, cos bad idea to travel...
Futures down the max at 5%... going to be rough again
Trump is inspiring no confidence, Politico says he is scared of declaring an Emergency cos might spook the stock market or hurt tourism and airlines
LOL -- the stock market is MORE spooked by someone incapable of DOING THE RIGHT THING FOR THE COUNTRY, rather then his re-election
Tourism?!!! Can you make this up? lol
Donot, if the virus continues to ramp, THEN we see hospitals overwhelmed, everyone staying at home and economy tanking -- today or tomorrow is not the day to buy in...
Give it 3-4-6 weeks, since we will see much deeper lows in all likliehood
One stock I watch is Macy's, M, they are well capitalized, have decent earnings -- now a 15% yield. And the retail earnings collapse from stay-at-home not even started...
I think we go quite a bit lower sadly
Take a look at the Dow and think again...
Set your target lower, think we will see $1.50 or even $1, though I won't be buying common
If those $50 pref's get to $9, I am in...
Golf, the virus will take off in next 2-3 weeks like Italy and China, only question is just how bad the infections will be. If everyone stays home, could be a lot better... but then a lot of businesses go tits up...
My view is that the panic gets worse over the next few weeks, THEN we get some buying opportunities. That is the way I am playing it, so 50% to cash now and put it to work as opportunities come along. FnF is a risky investment, so I figure it goes down too
I am pretty sure they are not announcing a settlement during a pandemic... and our Federal Judges will be self-isolating in a shot given how work-shy they are...
...and Liverpool lost in the Champions League
No NBA, no decent soccer... self-isolating with no sport! Only the demon drink left
Time to go to cash...
From "no big deal" to "no travel" -- the latter a pointless gesture all for show, since the viral horse has long since bolted all the way through WA, CA, OR and god knows where else
Yeah, "it is just the flu"... how many times do you have to be played before you wake up?
Skeptic, read some of the commentary, Treasury's appeal was EXCEPTIONAL in part because no ruling has yet been given prior to their appeal -- Judge Atlas has not ruled.
So, no, there has been no ruling that NWS is illegal. En banc gave strong direction. But one of our brethren with life-time job on the Federal bench can STILL give some swivel-eyed ruling nonetheless we should all be well aware OR maybe the Judge just chooses never to rule... such are the prerogatives of Federal JudgesI now know to my cost... "lol", scare quotes cos it ain't funnny
Donot, remember the guy who gave us the whoo-haa about "may" etc.? Think it was the district court in Collins that got dumped on by en banc appeal - but I forget with somany cases, lol
Navy, what?
Treasury took an exceptional step of appealing when no ruling had, as yet, been given -- since it has been REMANDED BACK TO JUDGE ATLAS albeit with guidance on how to rule.
We should all remember Judge Ginsberg -- remember that oh-so-smart jurist who took a bunch of dots in HERA and connected them however he wanted
Judge Atlas could rule in the same way and leave us with nothing -- sure the plaintiffs would appeal back to 5th. But surely you have learned enough about federal judges to know this is not at all impossible
So, no, NWS has NOT (as yet) been ruled illegal - sorry.
Peak virus, in a month, will give you a hell of a lot better price to buy in more than likely...
5th circuit REMANDED case back to Judge Atlas for a judgement -- do we disagree about that?
Right now NWS STILL not been ruled to be illegal... sadly.
God bless all ALL FnF investors!!!!
yeah, I know, too many people here are not careful about court rulings etc
No court has yet ruled NWS illegal, we await Judge Atlas doing that under the direction of the en banc ruling
But as we now all know, federal Judges rule at their own pleasure -- though please don't anyone suggest that such behavior of Judges is close to contempt...
Skep, you mean 24 billion etc, not million, but you are correct that so far the sweep is only in abeyance till the cap is reached...
Golf, next news is JUNE?
The worry is that the Treasury waits for SCOTUS opinion on Seilia Law where the opinion comes in June.
Without news, in these times, we see the slow corrosion of prices till news.
Even worse, Treasury could just wait till after election in NOVEMBER.
TBH I moved 30% of my FnF holdings to other things yesterday (ET) and to cash. I think there will be better opportunities when we hit peak virus in a month. Then I either hold the bargains or rotate out and back into FnF nearer June...
The lack of upcoming catalysts worries me...
Vaccinate your kids
Vaccinate yourself
The armed services require it where I come from for very, very good reasons
At some point the WH has got to change its tune on the virus you would think, otherwise this is political suicide.
In a month, the USA will be like Italy, we will have a travel lockdown and the hospitals will be overwhelmed with over 70 year olds in the ICU and all the other beds.
Once people's relatives, and friends from church, start dying, you think they are going to look kindly on people who were in power and did nothing? And you think those wounds fade in a couple of months or get carried for years? Rational people stop digging themselves holes at some point... "rational" being the operative word.
Should be a mandatory vaccine, by not having it you endanger everyone else by being a reservoir for the virus to mutate in and produce another pandemic
Looks like a vaccine is coming in the next year, so hopefully that would help -- though if it mutates then you need another vaccine in many cases
I agree that the Fed and Trump throwing stimulus at the problem makes no sense and makes the underlying problem of cheap money in USA even worse
Europe is a very different matter. The Europeans never took the pain of recapping their banks, so a lot are still weak - especially in Italy. Looks like the Italian banks are being put over the edge by the virus crisis -- but lots of other European banks lent to Italy. So you have the same dominoe effect in Europe, hence the recent actions to give Italy a pre-emptory bailout... A real mess.
More like it...
Kyle Bass said in an interview yesterday he thinks peak virus is a month away, then his firm thinks the summer burns off the infection rates
I am pretty sure about the peak virus prediction, see Italy, and let us pray he is right about the summer capping the infections
I think we will all be staying home for a couple of weeks... hope the weather is good so I can get in the garden and work
Hmm, viking funerals are organic, but they are NOT climate friendly I am afraid
I am now putting together a start-up, Greener Grass which specializes in green solutions for end-of-life (and I hope the name will catch some of the interest in marijuana stocks)
Well, the loans written recently have a strong basis with much stricter requirements, and rates are going down so people are re-financing into more affordable loans...
So, I see earnings staying high and I am not worried about huge losses on recent loans
Sadly, not a joke... casket makers?
Retail and retail REITS, mall REITS, once people stay home, then they will crater -- then time to buy
Today, energy is a buy -- next month mall REITS
There is now another re-fi boom, which mean another record quarter for FnF...
Market trading is halted for 15 minutes -- circuit breakers went into effect when S&P dropped 7%
Trading restarts at 9.49am
The denial keeps coming, it is amazing you folks keep denying the obvious -- wonder what the source of that denial and misinformation is?
Bottom-line: Keep ignoring the truth and, eventually, it smacks you really hard in the head
Lot of people getting their heads stove in over coming weeks it appears
Stern, I am buying in energy too, though sticking to mid-stream MLP's. I really like ET right now, down to the $7's pre-market...
lol, I am sorry for your loss
