al44: When the inflation gets out of control, they might make up. No, scratch that!
NYBob: I am sending the link to my friends and friendemies! Thank you.
al44: Good find, al. The U.S. cannot continue to dump money into that war, while giving a Social Security cost-of-living increase that does not keep lace with inflation and raising Medicare premiums. "People have had enough. They aren't going to take this anymore. They have had a stomach full." (With an apology to Steven K. Bannon, the hardest-working person in the news media, bar none.)
Here is a positive, even fun, article on my #2 pick for President, Vivek Ramaswamy.
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12470247/Vivek-Ramaswamy-backhand-tennis-broke-wrist.html
al44: Thanks for a good laugh. Something not so funny, is that Nov. oil futures rose to $86 a barrel today.
Unless and until the U.S. has a fossil-fuel friendly administration, the U.S. economy is doomed.
lj: Could U be more specific?
fuagf: Sorry to inform you that DeSantis and Biden had a telcon in which what I said occurred.
U can fact-check all day and night, not to mention that Google will make it very hard to find the truth in this matter.
What was said was made public, end of discussion.
We're done. You don't have the facts.
al44: You nailed it.
al44: Our biggest problem is Kevin McCarthy. He has rolled on the deficit and he actually said on Fox News that pursuing impeachment at this time could hurt negotiations on the budget. Someone should tell the fool that the Republicans have the majority in the House. He needs to be replaced--soon. l recommend Burchett of Texas or Rosendale of Montana. I am partial to Rosendale because he is a former Baltimoron!
lj: You nailed it. As I was driving to the store in the heat, today, I saw the lowest price for gasoline in this area--$3.47. Given the recent rise in the price of oil, my thought was that wholesalers are lousy with the stuff. As I drove down the highway, I wondered whether I should sell VLO calls tomorrow. My track record with selling covered calls is far from impressive. Think NVDA January $350.
VLO will stay in my portfolio unless the crack spread doesn't improve.
Trump had the U.S.-Mexican border under control. Trump put trade tariffs on China. Trump kept North Korea and Russia in line. Trump got rid of ridiculous regulations. He forced Europe to pay a fair share for their defense. And he did those things and a lot more while under constant attack, which resulted in two ridiculous impeachments. Trump's energy policies kept inflation low. Oh, yes, he took out ISIS. Remember that Boy Scout group? Trump is a salty; Biden is a worm.
TRUMP 2024!
fuagf: I'll give U that one. DeSantis has made a BIG mistake by not welcoming Biden, though Biden did threaten to cut off Florida's vaccine supply in 2021, to which DeSantis replied, "Go f*** yourself". But, was that the real Joe Biden. if it was, he was wearing a shoulder-length mask. His skin was shiny and flawless. Regardless of who he is, he is going to prison for a long stretch after influence-peddling gate comes to a head. It won't happen under corrupt, maybe clinically insane, Merrick Garland.
fuagf: Your response to the reality of Biden being away from the W.H. an incredible amount of time is to make ridiculous allegations about Trump. People who cannot handle the sad reality of the Biden Administration attack Trump. It is called projection.
al44 Duke Energy is spending a fortune on alternative energy sources (wind, solar) over the next 10 years, at the expense of traditional energy sources. When they get to the point where they are unable to generate enough electricity in 5 years or so, the "s" will hit the fan, but the people in their service area will be the "victims" of this nonsense.
If U want to own a utility stock, my advice would be to do your research and find a company that generates at least 50 percent of its electricity using nuclear power.
Of course, if mug-shot man wins the Presidental election next year, things might reverse course and sanity would be restored.
Typical liberals. Yahoo! homepage's lead story (3:00 p.m. EDT) is that former N.M. Governor Bill Richardson dies at 75. He was a popular progressive in the Democratric Party. May he RIP.
But the big story is way down on the list of headline stories--Jimmy Buffet dying. He passed away yesterday, so that might be the reason. Regardless, they give minimal coverage to the death of people conservatives like. There was hardly any coverage of country superstar Kenny Rogers' a few years back.
Gmenfan: I was thinking the same thing--teenagers manage to do the dirty!
r59: NVDA
Interesting. I didn't consider the current proceeds from selling the $350 call. Being on the wrong side of the transaction, I try not to think about the bid on the January $350 call!
jtomm: NVDA
That was an eye-opener for sure. I have said on this board that I find it peculiar that a January 2024 $350 call I sold has not been exercised. Granted there are 5 months until the expiration date, but my guess is that there are some savvy traders out there whose algos indicate NVDA could drop to $350 or below before then.
lj: By the way, I did not know until this morning that the OCT. WTI contract is $84. VTLE is riding the wave.
To get the stock moving, I sold a Sept. 8 $65 call. The higher oil price should be bad news for VLO, but my observation is that the stock moves in tandem with oil. I guess if they keep raising prices at the pump, the crack spread stays the same.
Artlicle that is classic example of Marxist attack on Christianity. Blatant.
Sick, sick people. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/jacksonville-shooter-s-hate-quietly-fueled-by-far-right-christianity-religious-leaders/ar-AA1g3tqD?ocid=msedgdhp&pc=U531&cvid=d794f539e1ae48528488bd0d03304c59&ei=10
lj: Let's see if volume picks up next week. The stock market in August has been a whole lotta nothing. We have budget negotiations on the horizon, led on the Republican side by a guy who has brain freezes.
lj: All things considered, Idalia was not as destructive as she could hvae been.
lj: And in the meantime, starting Saturday, temps in the 90's.
lj: VTLE calls
I don't like monthly expiration dates on options contracts, but
I like your thinking. It is a good way to lock in a profit.
By the way, predicted temps for Central Maryland NEXT week--in the low 90's.
AC usage will be high. Some years, you can turn off the AC in early September!
No rain in forecast for another week. Not an issue in the Carolinas and half of Florida, but that is not the time of precipitation anyone wants..
littlejohn: So we watch--Mitch McConnell freeze up again. EOM
al44: elections
The big problem Republicans face is that is is hard to get a court to hear claims of alleged election fraud. In this country, once an election is called, the decision is sacrosanct, and only an unpatriotic moron would challenge a decision.
NYBob: Thank you very much for the Steve Quayle interview. He was an occasional guest of George Noory on "Coast-to-Coast AM". Our local radio station cancelled the show, and I have not heard Steve Quayle for several years.
lj: When U can get close to 5 percent parking your money in a Government securities money market at a brokerage, why risk buying stocks when there are so many uncertainties. Oh, by the way, the Government budget chaos resumes in several weeks. The budget deadline is Sept. 30. The Trump supporters in Congress want to hold weasel Kevin McCarthy's feet to the fire.
They do not want a continuing resolution. They want Congress to address the budget NOW. I agree, If it is pushed into January, Republicans will give away the store. Why? 2024 is election year.
If the reckless spending continues, we are the next Argentina. It may be too late already.
lj: VTLE is $60 and change as of 3:30 p.m., but the volume is only about 1/3rd the average volume.
So, the move is meaningless, imo.
EGY is hovering around $4. They put out a PR saying they are doing business as usual.
If China didn't have its hooks into Africa, I would not be concerned.
I am considering selling my shares at a loss.
Will the new regime stiff Vaalco? I don't know how it works--whether or not Vaalco collects from its customers then gives Gabon its cut, or whether payments for the oil produced by Vallco go to the Government of Gabon and Vaalco gets paid from them.
Not that long ago, a junta leader in Egypt stiffed Total, the big French oil company. The leader/President was overthrown.
U don't stiff a big oil company. Vaalco is not Total.
NYBob: That could have been produced using AI.
al44: And then one election day, the printers at the polling places weren't working. Not just one printer, but many.
Kari Lake told her supporters to vote on election day. Think it was a coincidence?
lj: EGY
By the way, I tried to sell shares this a.m. and could not place an order. Trading halted. The message was "security cannot be traded at this time because the bid and the ask are out of order", or something like that. In other words, there are 50 times more sellers than buyers. And here I was thinking owning Vaalco was like owning a CD with a nice yield.
valuemind: It is big fun riding on a momo stock. However, NVDA has stalled today.
lj: FEMA has put up its workers in Maui in very expensive resort hotels, while residents are in the Island's versions of Motel 6's.
lj: Gabon
U have to wonder if China has any connection to Gabon's military! China has a BIG footprint on the continent.
If the military is run by a crook, EGY might work a better deal. Diversification into Egypt looks pretty smart right now.
I own too many shares. Thank you for alerting the board.
Hurricane: I knew instinctively that Idalia will be stronger than they were predicting last week--making landfall as a Cat 1.
What I am interested is the path after it gets back out into the Atlantic. It might head south. Ivan did!
Thanks to the full moon, flooding is going to be terrible.
I'm stating the obvious, as usual.
If U are in its path, take care.
At least the State of Florida is in competent hands to deal with the aftermath.
We watch and pray.
hweb2: NVDA
The recent high was about $502, for what it is worth. It will be interesting to see whether there is enough momentum to make a new high.
hweb2: NVDA is dominant in AI chips and it will stay that way for a while. That being said, I wouldn't touch the stock over $400, because Sept. and Oct. are notorious months for stock market tech wrecks. I could see it going as low as $370, even less.
Disclosure: I already have my full position. If I did not own any shares, I probably would not hesitate to start a position at $450.
lj:
lj: Let's hope they are right. I guess Mother Nature is getting ready to pull back her slingshot.
The Yucatan and Western Cuba have been pounded for days. That is the underreported story.
lj: The retail sector is very out of favor due to "shrinkage", the euphemism they are using for THEFT!
