Sorry,no IPO for vroosh.I get the impression people think google must scream because there is no competition. There is plenty of competition and people will look for it when google starts serving more irrelevant answers to searches.
OT.Alternative to google.

Try getting the drivers from the Dell site and not from your CD.
goldsmith my quotetracker seems ok today.eom
thanks for that Kayaker.I guess this means IB is going to get bashed some more over at elite trader.
I am running quotetracker off IB and some things dont look right to me.
tc you are right. My device manager has two default monitors. So I will remove one of them.
tc,when I get the warning and click on it,the display settings open.Listed there is ....Rage Mobility-P-AGP,with a tab for a drop down menu selection. When I click on that,a second Rage Mobility-P-AGP is revealed.I have no clue what else to do so I clicked on the second choice even though it seems to mirror the first. The puter seemed to make an adjustment.Since then,no more warnings.
?????????????
I sure hope that is it.
Durn pukers.
tc it is an inspiron 5000 P3 600mhz 384mbRAM.
At Dell there are two choices for video drivers .P-AGP or M-AGP.My device manager says I have P-AGP.But is it just reporting whatever driver is installed? What might happen if I try the M-AGP?
Cowboy is the bios settings the ones you access at startup by way of the f2 button?
I put a new HD in my W98se laptop and had to download drivers from Dell.It worked great for a couple of weeks then I started getting warnings about my display,at startup.I couldnt find anything wrong but a few days later I got a black screen at startup and ended up reformatting the HD ad starting from scratch. Now,two weeks later,I am getting the same warning and I fear the black screen of death. The exact warning is....
"There is a problem with your display settings. The adapter type is incorrect or the current settings do not work with your hardware".
I still cannot find anything wrong with the display settings.Any ideas?
No,I am all out of warranty.
I dont have room for a mouse.I dont own one.
tc,I cant find those settings in IE.(firefox disappeared when I did system restore). You think this problem could be something to do with Java?
Its a laptop.Alps pointing device.(touchpad)
Nope, its a laptop.Already reloaded driver for alps pointing device.
My latest problem on my XP system.I have lost "right click" function.Think I lost it today or yesterday. The only significant thing I did was download Firefox and play with it.I did system restore but no fix.Anyone got any ideas.
Police officer."Got any ID?"
Drunk driver:"Bout whut?"
Punkle if you dont have the diagnostics CD you may be able to download diagnostics from the manufacturers site. Also, you could try reloading video drivers.
thanks eom
How do you configure that?Where and what are the settings?
Have you tried scanreg/restore ?
I agree,64mb RAM is far too little. If you get a new HD go for higher rpm.
Thanks tc.I never knew such a folder existed. That utility was the only thing in it and I got a shortcut installed on the desktop and used the program and my puter still works.
Win zip?
I downloaded cleanup.bat from here
http://www2.whidbey.net/djdenham/Tweekz.htm
I was able to open and use it on my XP system and,so far,it seems to be beneficial.Probably not as good as ace utilities but it is free.
So then I downloaded cleanup.bat to my W98 system which is unable to unzip it.So I downloaded win zip and unzipped it.Then I uninstalled win zip, because it is not a free program.Next thing I find cleanup.bat is no longer unzipped.
Anyone care to educate me on how winzip works?
Anyone have a no cost plan on how to proceed?
After you check the settings on your router, study the lights on the router and the modem. If they seem correct go back to the settings on your puter.Left click and right click on your networks and any wireless icons and anything else relevant.Study all the settings.Study the properties.Let windows try to reconfigure the connection.
Yes I mean your browser address bar.The address number for your router will be in the router manual. If you dont have one you should be able to get the info at the manufacturers web site. The address of my router is 192.168.2.1.The address for your router should be something similar.
Have you tried resetting the router to the factory default and then reconfiguring it?
To check the settings on my Belkin router I type its address (a bunch of numbers) in my address bar and hit enter and it opens the router menu.
W98 restore.
Do this
Start-shutdown-restart in MSDOS
When the puter restarts in DOS mode at the blinking cursor type
scanreg/restore
enter
You should then have the choice of restoring your settings to one of the previous five days.
Further to this. The people selling the software,in this instance, have a website and are so "out there" it would be easy for microsoft to go after them.I am guessing that their software is genuine and they got it at auction when some computer company went bust.
Thanks,I am not trying to start an argument, just trying to understand the situation.Seems to me this situation applies only to software?I mean,I bought an oem hard drive and I dont feel that I have done anything wrong.
So OEM software that is resold is "illegal"? I see there is a guy in California openly selling XP for $50.I bet there is a lot of it on Ebay.I dont see how it will screw up your puter unless it suddenly stops working.Anyone hear of this happening?
Wow!I just noticed the bargain software prices at the link in that post.
Basserdan do you have this one on your radar?

Ok .I have never yet done that, but I may get desperate. But I just clicked on the wireless connection icon on the XP.There was a repair button I hadnt noticed before. So far it is working, but it has only been a few minutes.
If you are talking about makeing a floppy on the XP and running it on the W98.......my XP doesnt have a floppy drive. Thanks for the idea.
Er.... dont know. They connect to the router through wireless usb adapters (speedstream ss1022).The XP automatically connects on startup. The W98 has to be manually connected each time.
OK it seems this problem does not happen when the XP puter is not on.So some how the XP is causing a problem for the W98.Any ideas?
Conflict problem.I have just begun using a new sbc/yahoo dsl connection. My XP puter seems to like it.My W98 puter is giving the following windows message."The system has detected a conflict for IP address 192.168.2.17 with the system having the harware address 00:02:DD:31:4B:5A."
This is using a wireless router which has the address 192.168.2.1.
Norton system works cannot find any problem.
Anyone got any ideas?
Yes,I am talking about laptops. This is an inspiron 5000 P3 600mhz W98se.I put a seagate ST92011a HD in it and ,for my purposes,I think the performance will be adequate for at least another year.Who knows what wonderfull new laptops will be available next year?
As I said on another thread. My broadband was out for four days.I had two laptops with zone alarm,an XP and a W98.I had two phone lines and two ISP's.I kept swapping the puters on the lines and connections.Zone alarm says the XP suffered 200 serious threats and 1000 "normal" threats.Zone alarm says the W98 suffered 40 "normal" threats.
On the W98 I have done the Sheilds Up binding thing.
XMSR,my W98se has been quite stable in recent times.I suspect a lot of the trouble I had with it was caused by scumbags who are now concentrating on XP systems.Looks like your puter has plenty of RAM.How many rpm is your HD?If it is 4200rpm a faster HD will be beneficial.
