And best of luck to all here too. I will be @ the game again this weekend - sure sounds like a great weather forecast. I did see that parking will be a problem tho because of the heavy rain this past week - the ground is just saturated & most of the stadium parking is unpaved.
Enjoy the games everyone!
Yep, you sure have an advantage there. Maybe that's why the Steelers don't have cheerleaders either. I think they're the last hold-out. The Rooney's are very conservative. <g>
Hi Colt,
Let me know if you got it. I was in State College last weekend & we stopped @ a grocery store to get a few things for the tailgate. They had a whole wall of Wheaties for sale as you come in the door! LOL!
I also received a spam-mail from a group called "Stock Radar". The highlight stock is VPER. It won't let me copy & paste tho.

CLSI - interesting stock. Not only are they showing profit & have virtually no debt but they actually have a book value too. The surprising thing is they've got to this point w/o diluting either. I went back to '96 & the O/S were 336.8 million vs. 365.1 million as of 8/14/03 - an increase of 23.3 million in 7 years. That's a little over 1%/yr.(no R/S that I could see). Also, the CEO made $48,000/yr in '96 & $60,000 in '02 - heck, I think my cleaning lady makes that much! lol.
Nice little company - I like it.
Dallas,
EXUS - Fwiw, ORBITEL ONE INC is a company owned by Sutton, himself.
Mornin' ksquared,
Yes, it was a bit wet thru Noon but it cleared up nicely by gametime. It was a typical 1st game performance - some possibilities but also some disappointments. Joe surprised many by actually playing the freshman phenom RB, Austin Scott. The kid looks like he could be a great one. Both lines need some work tho. We'll know more this weekend vs. B.C. and next week on the road against Neb.
Congrats on the Mich. win - I see we're all in the Top 25 again!
Here's a Top 10 poll I can live with. <g>

Tailgating is fun at every school, but some have become famous for elevating food and fun to a higher level."There should be one competition for schools in the South and another for all the rest," said Chris Fowler ESPN's "College GameDay."
"The South is in a different class. It's major league vs. Triple A."
Based on input and experiences of Fowler, Ken Davis of The Courant and Joe Cahn, the Commissioner of Tailgating (tailgating.com), we offer our tailgating top 10.
1. LSU: Gumbo, jambalaya and etouffee. This is serious tailgating with serious food and Cahn's choice for No. 1. "Cajuns instinctively know how to tailgate," Fowler says. "The food is phenomenal."
2. Penn State: The RVs start pulling in on Wednesday and Thursday. What an impressive sight on the grassy hills near Beaver Stadium. Happy Valley gets happier with the smell of great pregame food.
3. Tennessee: Vols fans come by land and by water. To avoid traffic problems, some arrive as early as Thursday. Others come by boat along the Tennessee River, forming the Volunteer Navy.
4. Auburn: The party starts Friday night and there's something for everyone. There are tents for alumni, motor homes with satellite TVs, interactive fun for kids and aromatic delights everywhere.
5. Ole Miss: Welcome to The Grove, where partying is done on 10 grassy acres shaded by dozens of oak trees in the middle of campus. This is high class - women in dresses and men in starched shirts.
6. Georgia: Southern hospitality and hundreds of bulldogs. "Dogs might even outnumber the tailgaters," Cahn writes on his website. "A place where they're not afraid to serve fried chicken and grits for breakfast."
7. Michigan: Cahn says Wolverine fans are clean, which gets them invited to the adjoining golf course for tailgating fun. For details of this season's first theme (a luau), log on at theme@umtailgate.com.
8. Rutgers: The team may be losers but not their tailgaters. Cahn calls Rutgers Stadium the "most family-friendly tailgating spot." These fans are totally organized and steeped in tradition. Check out the tailgate page, complete with map of tailgating areas, at Rutgersfan.com.
9. Texas: This is Austin, folks. Lot of meat. Smokers and other sophisticated grilling equipment serve up the best recipes to satisfy a Texas-sized appetite.
10. Florida: Everything from catered meals with tablecloths and candles to chips and 12-packs. This is an orange-and-blue festival complete with decorated cars and people in Gator costumes.
Special mention: The Florida-Georgia game, played in Jacksonville, is known as the World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party. The party starts early and keeps going after the game. Fowler says the character of the party has been changed by the move to Jacksonville's pro football stadium. The environment around the game Saturday is not as wild, but Friday night the action in downtown Jacksonville is anything but tame.
Colt,
I found the Wheaties box on Ebay but for some reason Ihub won't let me link it. They're selling there for something like $7.95 if you're interested - and that's probably w/o the cereal. ;)

Ron Bracken / 'Adequate' likely will sum up Penn State this season
By Ron Bracken
rbracken@centredaily.com
The scenario is pretty much unchanged from year to year, much like Joe Paterno's hairstyle.
He'll be asked to analyze his team, give the media some insight into what kind of season to expect and he'll use one of two stock replies.
If he has a veteran team, one well-stocked with talent, he'll downplay it, choosing to keep egos in check and expectations low.
If he has a young, relatively untested group, he'll be more upbeat, not wanting to destroy their already fragile confidence.
But this year has been a little different. It's the first time in memory I've heard him say his team has a chance to be adequate and even that might take until next year.
Adequate has never been a word associated with Penn State football since those Dark Ages of the early 1930s when financial aid was abolished and the program, under Bob Higgins, took a huge hit from which it didn't recover until 1940 or so.
In those days, adequate was acceptable because the whole country was trying to crawl out of the Depression and adequate meant just enough to eat, just enough coal to feed the furnace, just enough money to buy one pair of shoes.
But since the veterans came home from World War II and resumed their football careers where they had left off, Penn State football has rarely fallen to adequate levels.
So when Paterno chose that word to describe his team's hope for the season, it sent a red flag up the pole.
The question now is to believe him or not, to swallow that minnow with the hook inside it or reject it?
For once, I'll take the bait.
Because this year, this team may very well be adequate at best when judged by Penn State standards.
There are huge holes to fill in critical areas but Penn State fans already know that.
They know that you don't lose three-fourths of the defensive line to the NFL and expect that there be no dropoff.
They know that you don't lose a 2,000-yard tailback and just cycle the next phenom into the backfield.
They know that when you're breaking in a new, untested offensive line, the running game will suffer and the quarterback will go down under a blanket of foreign-colored jerseys.
What keeps them going is the belief that there is enough talent on the roster to pick up the pieces and cobble together into another winning team like the Lions once did when they had 105 grants-in-aid to give and the schedule was tailored to isolate the three or four key games among the poor, the tired and the downtrodden.
The Big Ten has changed that. Now there's no breathing room in the conference. And even the front end of the schedule has a couple of landmines.
Nittany Lion apologists and those who are in line waiting to buy their first box of Penn State Crunch believe that there is enough talent on this team to match or even surpass last year's 9-4 record.
I'll buy that but not the Crunch. There is plenty of talent on hand but it's greener than week-old meat loaf.
With inexperience comes mistakes, which means losses. Rookies do rookie things like faircatching kickoffs on the one-yard line (that really happened at Tennessee in 1971) and with an unforgiving schedule those kinds of screwups are usually fatal.
Considering that there will be a number of rookies in the lineup this year at critical spots, doesn't it follow that there will be a proportionate number of mistakes?
Having said that, having scanned the schedule and having listened closely to what the corn flakes are telling me, the Nittany Lions will finish 7-6.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
O.T.
The Chiefs huh. How's L.J. lookin' so far? I hope he's able to help you guys out. Truthfully tho, I was surprised he went so high in the draft.
Best of luck this season!

Paterno to be featured on Wheaties box
From CDT staff reports
UNIVERSITY PARK -- Penn State coach Joe Paterno will join the legions of sports heroes who have been honored with one of the sports world's most recognized awards -- the front of the Wheaties cereal box.
Paterno, the all-time leader in career wins by a major college football coach, will be featured on a special edition box to be distributed in Pennsylvania and surrounding states starting Thursday.
The breakfast cereal has honored college coaches as far back as 1937, when a series of boxes honored coaches including Minnesota's Bernie Bierman and Fordham's Jim Crowley. Nebraska's Tom Osborne appeared on the box in 1997.
"Joe Paterno obviously is a true icon among coaches," said Brian Kittelson, Wheaties' marketing manager. "Honoring Coach Paterno is especially significant in that it takes Wheaties back to its roots in the 1930s and '40s, when college coaches made regular appearances on the package."
gary,
FWIW, O/S as of 8/6/03 were still 21,348,191. That's been consistent for about 2 years now. WINR/P
WINR/P - I have some of this. Don't understand the movement the last few weeks. To my knowledge, it's just a shell. Is there a market for non-reporting shells? Anyone ever see a reverse merger with a pinkie?
FYI regarding filing deadline & Northeast power failure:
http://www.sec.gov/info/edgar/ednews/powerout081503.htm
Notice for EDGAR Filers re:
Northeast Power Outage Filing Problems
Many companies were required to file reports or other filings, including those under Sections 13 or 16 of the Exchange Act, on August 14, 2003 or August 15, 2003. We recognize that due to the power outage in the northeast United States and portions of Canada, many filers were unable to submit their filings to us. As power is restored, companies should file or furnish their reports as promptly as possible — which we assume will be today, Friday August 15, or by the latest, Monday, August 18, 2003.
The electronic filing rules provide that the staff may adjust the filing date for an electronic filing if the filing was delayed for technical difficulties beyond the filer's control. While a date adjustment is not automatically granted, we will honor requests from companies affected by the power outage in the northeast United States and the affected areas of Canada to adjust filing dates if they were unable to file because of the power outage.
To submit a filing date adjustment, a company or its counsel may send a facsimile to (202) 942-9542. Investment companies and institutional investment managers may send a facsimile to (202) 628-9002. Please provide the following information:
the name of the company, the CIK, and the form type of the filing;
the accession number for the accepted late filing;
the reason the date adjustment is required (e.g. power outage in LOCATION); and
the name and telephone number of the person we should contact regarding the request.
We will attempt to advise companies by phone within 2 business days whether the request is granted or if we need further information. When a date adjustment is granted, the correction to the EDGAR system will be made as soon as possible, but may take up to one week or longer.
Mornin' Colt,
Add Wilson and highly-regarded incoming freshmen Austin Scott, Tony Hunt and Rodney Kinlaw to the equation and it becomes a very crowded backfield.
There's the ticket, IMO. Hopefully, Joe will let him play - he hates using freshman! LOL!
2 weeks! :)
Big Ten to experiment with instant replay
JOSH DUBOW, AP Football Writer Thursday, August 14, 2003
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(08-14) 12:54 PDT (AP) --
The Big Ten has taken a step toward using instant replay in football games, implementing a pilot program to determine whether to use it for real in the future.
Commissioner Jim Delany said Thursday the conference would use a test program for a handful of games this season to determine the effects of replay.
It will be based on the NFL's system of limited challenges and won't disrupt play on the field. An independent person hired by the conference will decide which plays should be challenged based on game situations. The plays will be reviewed based on the television feed.
"I can see the case for and against replay," Delany said. "Reasonable people can differ. I've seen video used in college basketball and the NBA in a reasonable way. I question to some extent the amount it is used in the NFL. I can see how it has an effect that's negative. I can see the positives as well."
The coaches voted unanimously in favor of using replay in games, while athletic directors were split. A study by Big Ten head of officiating Dave Perry determined that about 15-to-20 calls would have been overturned in 76 games last year if the conference had the NFL system.
In the NFL last year, 294 plays were reviewed and 94 calls were overturned in 256 regular season games.
In order to use replay in games, the Big Ten would need a waiver from the NCAA. Delany said before that happens he would seek approval from university presidents because of the multimillion-dollar cost of replay and would hope to get other conferences on board.
The NFL spent about $10 million to implement its program and several million a year to run it. Delany said the Big Ten could use a less expensive system.
"It changes the nature of the game," Delany said. "It is expensive. I don't want to do it in a second-rate way. We don't need to spend what the NFL spends, but we don't want to do it with an antenna on a coat hanger. It could be a modified system. When you introduce something like this, less is more. The NFL rightly concluded that less is more. They really restricted the kind of plays that can be challenged."
The study of officiating came in response to a request last year from Penn State athletic director Tim Curley after several high-profile controversial calls last season.
The Big Ten estimated that there were about 4.1 "flaws" per game last season by officials, which is more than double what the NFL has but in line with other college conferences and past years in the Big Ten, Delany said.
The conference also agreed to allow officials to work at spring practice and games and fall camp to increase training opportunities.
In January, the conference denied Penn State's request to prevent officials from calling games in the areas they live.
Delany also enacted crowd control initiatives to try to limit postgame rioting and over-the-top heckling of players.
Home teams must provide adequate security and protection for the visiting team and game officials. They also will be responsible for school-sponsored student sections that attack or single out players.
Also, replays of controversial calls will be prohibited from being shown on stadium video boards.
"The boundary seems to be blurred a bit between the field and the stands," Delany said. "We've seen in the college game, especially basketball, fans directing venom at other teams' student athletes. We think that's excessive and wrong. We saw some things the last few years where passion stepped over the line."
After an initial warning, Delany said schools would be called out publicly for fan misbehavior and possibly disciplined if the behavior continues.
He also said he would consider targeting alcohol use at tailgate parties before games if there is not improvement in fan behavior.
MSMC/P - Heads up. Announced last month they were changing their name to GEMZ Corp. & increasing A/S to 500 million. This morning the new name showed up on the Nevada Dept. of State website:
http://sos.state.nv.us/begin.asp
Expect a PR campaign shortly. Attempt to call in the shorts or just another opportunity to issue paper to new investors? I'm not brave enough to make that call. ;)
ksquared,
I don't hate Paterno.
I know that. Truthfully, I may bitch & moan about the last few years but in the end, he will be sorely missed by all Nits as well as college football in general. I just hope he can go out on a high note & not under circumstances that would compare to Mr. Hayes.
In the meantime, congrats on the QB catch. Of course, these verbal committments don't always hold - Mr. Simms committed to PSU, then Tenn. & finally decided on that little school in Texas. I'm sure Colt remembers that. ;)
3 weeks from today!
ksquared,
This really hurts:

QB Chad Henne selects Michigan over Penn State
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Bill Hodge
CollegeSports.com
One of the most highly sought quarterbacks in the class of 2004, Top 150 prospect Chad Henne of West Lawn-Wilson, Pa., has chosen Michigan over Penn State. Henne, who also considered Miami-Florida, Georgia and Tennessee among nearly 40 offers, passed for 2093 yards and 23 touchdowns as a junior.
Paterno is losing way too many quality players - 1 of these days the powers that be are going to realize this. Age is a factor.
Anyone have the latest "best guess" on the O/S? Is the A/S still 300MM?
Thank you Cintrix - very timely find there.
LaFem,
I also own ETCR but have not followed the discussion on RB. Has the possibility been discussed over there that the Corp. is the majority "member" of the LLC? In effect, the transferring of the rights would merely be a "legal" thing & the shareholders of the corp. would still be the owners.
Don't know this to be fact, just suggesting a possibility.
Ever notice how the roads get better when you enter Ohio? <g>
Penn State made the Top 25? Gee, things are lookin' up! <g>
Thank you, Rick. Yes, my shell has been broken, I reckon. ;)
One other thing, Cintrix - I'm extremely biased against any Nussen related Co., so please take that into consideration. ;)
Do a search on 10K Wizard for Mitchell S. Nussbaum - he's the guy (attorney) that seems to put these scams together. Also, check "Rim Capital Holdings, LLC, Rim CG, LLC & RCG, LLC" - they are the toxic CD holders for SHRN & were also the ones involved with IRAC (ITRD), a Nussen Co. that simply collapsed leaving many bagholders.
SHRN & MSMC also have the same PR person, M. Gluzman and the same connection to "Beryl Wolk". If you go to www. greedorfear.com, you will also see that both companies were profiled the same day by that site. There are others too, but I don't want to bore you.
Personally, I'd think that the CD holders would want to short from a higher level - it could go up but don't get greedy. These people are ruthless & brutal when it starts to collapse. IMO.
cintrix,
SHRN - people who have followed it's history (like myself) feel there are just too many connections to Isaac Nussen of American Jewelry fame(?).
Some excellent articles there, Colt. Thanks for all your efforts!
HOOK 'EM HORNS! :)
Hi Colt,
The only part of that article that isn't complete BS is this:
``The reason, and the only reason, is for a paycheck.''
And that's why they will eventually do it. Such hypocrites! IMO.
PENN STATE MOVING BACK TO THE BIG EAST!
Now that I got everyone's attention....... <g>
No, it stands to reason that the question would come up but it appears that any thoughts of that happening in the not to distant future are very unlikely:
Paterno advises Big East to wait (but not for Penn State)
Friday, July 25, 2003
By Ray Fittipaldo, Post-Gazette Sports Writer
CHICAGO -- Coaches in the Big East Conference approached Penn State Coach Joe Paterno about the Nittany Lions joining the league after Miami and Virginia Tech decided to move to the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Two coaches in the Big East are former Paterno pupils -- Paul Pasqualoni of Syracuse and Greg Schiano of Rutgers. Pasqualoni played for Paterno in the early 1970s and Schiano is a former assistant coach at Penn State.
"I've talked to some of the coaches who are friends of mine about whether we might have some interest, and I'm very frank with them and tell them it's not my call," Paterno said. "The only thing I think the Big East ought to do, and I say this because I love college football, is just don't panic. Don't go out and get a lot of teams you're not comfortable with. Let's see how things settle.
"Things happen so fast. Virginia Tech was suing Syracuse and Boston College. Now they're in. Notre Dame is sitting out there with a great big trump card, whatever way they want to go. Everybody ought to just sit back and look at the lay of the land. If you want me to say what is best, I can't. I really could not tell you what is best for the Big Ten, the Big East or what's best for Penn State right now. Calm down a little and say OK, the ACC made a move. Obviously a move that will strengthen them. How is it going to affect the Big Ten? How badly is it going to affect the Big East? I don't want it to get to a point where it's a knee-jerk reaction."
Paterno emphasized Penn State's loyalty to the Big Ten. He said for reasons other than football it would be difficult to move. Because the academic environment has changed for the better since the move to the Big Ten, he said, the faculty would have a problem with going to the Big East.
"When we wanted to get in the league, the Big Ten took us in unconditionally without really going down the line," Paterno said. "The presidents and faculty reps took it upon themselves to take us into the Big Ten. Guys like Bo [Schembechler] called me up and said, you sneaky son of a ... You never would have gotten in. ... If you said 20 years from now what's going to be good for Penn State, it would be hard for me to argue that the Big Ten is not what's best for the university. If you start talking football? That's never something I wanted to do. I never wanted to isolate football from what's good for the university. The Big Ten has been awfully good for Penn State."
A month from now Penn State will begin its 11th season in the Big Ten, and record-wise not much has changed since it gave up its football independence.
In the first 10 seasons of football competition, the Nittany Lions won one conference title and compiled a record of 89-33. In the 10 seasons before joining the league, the Lions were 85-33-2 and won a national championship in 1986.
But in the past five years, the Lions have not finished among the top three teams in the conference standings and are 22-17 against league foes.
Since Penn State joined in 1993, Ohio State has won or shared the conference title four times, Wisconsin and Northwestern three times apiece.
"I think we've been competitive," Paterno said. "We went through a few years there when we were bad and then we were 0-4. We went through some coaching changes and things like that, and a lot of it had to do with the league we were in. Since then we've been competitive in a tough, competitive league. We get a call here and a call there last year, and we were in a BCS bowl. We haven't dominated, obviously, but I don't think anyone is going to dominate in this league.
"It's tougher now than it was. Right now the coaching in this league is so good. Before we came in the league, I scouted every team, and I knew who we had to beat. If you ask me who we have to beat this year. ... People don't know how good Minnesota is going to be. They all think Iowa is dead. They're not dead. People don't know how good Purdue is defensively. There's a lot of good football teams in this league."
Paterno said there has been a big adjustment for him on and off the field.
"Obviously there's always some disappointment. But if you ask me overall, I'd say it's been a plus. ...Overall, it's been a very strong thing for us.
"You can nitpick. Personally, when we were an independent I had a lot more to say about things. I don't have that kind of prerogative anymore. The Big Ten is layered as far as structure. You say one thing, the presidents may like [it], but the faculty reps may not like it and they have a vote. It's a different environment for me."
Mornin' ksquared,
I had to reset my bookmarks last month & I accidently bookmarked the wrong thread:

LOL! I wondered why it was so quiet over here!
We play Temple on the 30th - home game @ 3:30 which is great for tailgating. I hate the Noon starts. Not enough time before the game & too much after. That game is followed by BC @ home & Nebraska away. Those 2 games will define our season, IMO. Truthfully, I'm not overly optimistic - lost half the offense & half the defense. I'll be satisfied if they are @ least competitive & have a winning season. The Big Ten looks strong again this season.
I see you guys start with Central Michigan @ home. Yawn. ;)
Take care.
Hi greg,
Welcome aboard! A Hokie, huh? As in "glad to be a Hokie from Mascogie"? Nah, that's Switzer territory, isn't it? Wish you guys would quit stealing our Pa. recruits! <g> Interesting situation there in the Big East & ACC. I'd say the BE better find some substitutes real quick. Especially if Pitt decides to bolt to the Big Ten (11) - I know ksquared really wants to see that! ;)
BTW, don't believe everything that gal tells ya - she's really a closet Paterno fan. LOL!
Nice to have the Hokies represented over here. Looking forward to the new year. Watch out for those Caviliers - a program on the move, IMO.
Hi ksquared & Colt,
Sorry I missed some action over here the last month - speaking of a month, got my tickets on Friday. The first game is 8/30. Haven't even had a summer yet & already it's football season? What's that all about?
Jay-Pa. Remember his name, ksquared. ;)
Colt,
I tend to agree. I think the pollsters are concerned because they lost 4 1st round draft choices but they will be replaced - the talent is there. It will be a good year for all of us, I'm sure. Isn't it nice to see some new names in that Top 25 tho? Virginia & NC State? Who would have thought.
Hard to believe that Pro exhibition games start in a few weeks!
