Apple offering a jacket with an iPod pocket and controls on the sleeve ? Think I saw that this AM on CNBC...skiware I think.
Think they'll splurge for VoiceNAV down the road now that PortalPlayer has a new partner that can integrate it ?
A possibility ???
On Thursday, Intel's (INTC: news, chart) Craig Barrett is expected to show off a personal video player that Intel is developing with Sonic Blue -- unless the companies slip on delivering a prototype. The player is expected to weigh only a few ounces, and it has a tiny LCD screen that lets you store and watch TV shows, home movies, and even DVD content. It's expected to be available in the third quarter for less than $1,000.
Any insights as to whether or not Equator Technologies' BSP-15 video centric system-on-a-chip video processor with e.Digital's technology is part of the IFE product line or is this strictly for home and portable products ?
jam, the ENTIRE market would like to see SUCCESS this year, including President George W Bush. EDIG investors do not exist alone.
If you consider success as more products and new market opportunities, not to mention multiple product designs based on proprietary technology, then this has been a successful year.
If you consider success strictly as a PPS move up, then 2000 provided you with plenty of that, but this year has been anything but a success.
This long term investor is looking for an increase in PPS accompanied by growing markets/products for a sustained growth curve.
The markets are catching up on the technology. Apple has done a great job this past year educating the consumer on how cool a HDD MP3 jukebox is and now EDIG has their answer, as the Odyssey 1000 launches tomorrow.
Both Eclipse and IFE are targeted for this quarter.
This is moving forward, IMO. We do have to realize we are an otcbb trying to break in to markets at a particularly difficult time in our economy, but that is changing as TAX CUTS are on the table, inflation is nonexistent, interest rates are at record LOW levels and the bar has been lowered.
Time for a break out with the right news.
re: think positive, add to that the IFE unit this quarter...and who know what else is lurking.
"The agreement between APS, and the major U.S. airline calls for e.Digital to manufacture and sell the units through APS, a certified airline service and equipment provider. e.Digital has already received its first payment under the contract, and will receive revenue from non- recurring and recurring service fees plus licensing fees and royalties on each unit. Completion of the device is anticipated in the first quarter of 2003. This contract represents e.Digital’s first venture into the In-Flight Entertainment industry; the companies are in discussions with other airlines to implement the system."
wrong jimee, potential is still very much part of the equation for anticipated revenues...but it will be necessary to demonstrate done deals with end users coupled with that potential...
which I have confidence is coming.
sweet find rstring:"Microsoft's second surprise is the unveiling of high definition set-top technology based on single-chip architecture from Equator Technologies. The device on demonstration is firmware, rather than silicon, but it squashes the idea that Microsoft is talking up technologies it can't deliver.
Poole revealed: "You'll see announcements about releases from Equator, Texas Instruments, Broadcom and a number of others who will be offering single-chip decoding capabilities for video and audio in standard and hi def formats."
jimee, you adjust your business model to respond to market conditions....something you don't get. That's why EDIG is still here interfacing on some very cutting edge projects/products.
back to your cubicle/some things never change
Sentinel, where you see a problem, I see an entire new group of products utilizing a multi-codec solution for multiple mediums...
makes EDIG that much more versatile to design and integrate product solutions into mulitple applications...hence the airline opportunity moving forward----what next ?

more importantly than shipping this initial order to the consumer is getting it into the hands of reviewers and potential partners...that should be the thrust from this CES launch, IMO, especially if their new business model is to get some running room...
Although, I do want my Odyssey 1000 NOW !
Seaquestor...love seeing the PATENTED TECHNOLOGY continue to find market applications...this time in a truly multi-codec platform for video.
Meanwhile, the Odyssey 1000 will officially launch tomorrow, hopefully into the hands of reviewers and future partners.
Lots going on to get excited about. Those tainted by the bear market and bitter about the realities of these tough markets will be replaced by investors looking for new investment opportunities as we move into an improving environment.
And for those who continue to stay focused on the opportunities in the near term and long term...

announced that the launch of its Odyssey(TM) 1000 portable digital audio player
will take place at the 2003 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las
Vegas January 9-12.
The company will feature its lineup of flash-based and hard drive-based digital
audio players including the Treo 15, MXP 100, Odyssey 100, Odyssey 200, Odyssey
300, and the much-anticipated new Odyssey 1000 digital audio player.
The Odyssey 1000 is e.Digital's sophisticated new portable jukebox, with a 20 GB
hard drive, USB 2.0 for high-speed downloading, and e.Digital's unique
VoiceNav(TM) technology, which will recognize the spoken name of an artist or
track -- without training -- letting consumers just "Say It to Play It." It also
has an easy-to-use scroll wheel for effortless manual navigation.
The Odyssey 1000 has a download speed of up to 8 megabytes per second using USB
2.0. It is recognized by PCs as a mass storage device and acts as a portable
hard drive for storing and transporting movies, spreadsheets, pictures, and
more. Even large stored files can be played or run directly from the Odyssey
1000's hard drive when connected to a PC via the provided USB 2.0 cable.
Developed with SRS Labs' WOW(TM) audio enhancement technology for a 3-D
listening experience and rich bass, the Odyssey 1000 delivers superb audio
quality whether you are playing music through the included collapsible stereo
headphones, or connected to your home stereo system (home stereo adaptor cable
also included).
Based on e.Digital's MicroOS(TM) technology, the Odyssey 1000 plays both MP3 and
Windows Media(TM) audio files and features an FM tuner and a digital voice
recorder with built-in microphone. A built-in rechargeable Li-Ion battery
delivers up to 12 hours of playback time and charges in under 4 hours with the
included power cable. Built for use on the go, a carrying case with belt clip
rounds out the accessories for the Odyssey 1000. The Odyssey 1000 is scheduled
to begin shipping to consumers February 5, with a suggested retail price of
$349.
The Treo 15 portable digital jukebox is a hard drive-based MP3 and Windows
Media(TM) audio player, with 15 GB of music and data storage capacity built in.
Treo puts a lifetime of music in your pocket and acts as a portable hard drive
where you can store and transport pictures, spreadsheets, games, or any other
type of data files. Standard accessories for Treo 15 include a rechargeable
battery, carrying case with belt clip, stereo earbuds, and a home stereo adaptor
cable. The Treo 15, also based on e.Digital's MicroOS technology, sells for
$189.
The MXP 100 digital audio player uses removable CompactFlash(TM) or IBM
Microdrive(TM) as its storage media. It features e.Digital's unique VoiceNav(TM)
technology, which will, without training, recognize the spoken name of an artist
or track, letting consumers just "Say It to Play It." The MXP 100, based on
e.Digital's MicroOS technology, plays MP3 and Windows Media(TM) audio files and
features a digital voice recorder with built-in microphone. With its variable
storage capacity up to 1 GB, the MXP 100 retails from $99 to $229.
The 64 MB flash-based Odyssey 100 features battery life of up to 30 hours from a
single AA alkaline battery. The Odyssey 200 features 128 MB of embedded flash
memory and a built-in FM tuner and digital voice recorder. The Odyssey 300
features 128 MB of embedded flash memory, a built-in FM tuner and recorder, a
digital voice recorder, and direct MP3 encoding from virtually any audio source.
The flash-based Odyssey MP3 players all include a SmartMedia(TM) Card expansion
slot and are PC and Mac compatible. Retail prices range from $99 to $229
depending on features and accessories.
Also on display will be the Silhouette MP3 CD player. Like the Odyssey 1000, the
Silhouette also features SRS Labs' WOW audio enhancement technology, and plays
MP3 and Windows Media(TM) audio files from CDs that consumers burn themselves at
home.
All of e.Digital's audio players include a free subscription to WeDigMusic.com,

An outside view of IFE-excerpt from an email I received from someone somewhat in the know, industry-wise...
"IFE is a real big thing and while US carriers are in cost problems others in the world like those in the middle east--Emirates, Qatar etc. which are going very first class are
getting into IFE big time."
fwiw...
e.Digital has already received its first payment under the contract, and will receive revenue from non- recurring and recurring service fees plus licensing fees and royalties on each unit.
"This contract represents e.Digital's first venture into the In-Flight Entertainment industry; the companies are in discussions with other airlines to implement the system."
or this~~"Beginning with a major U.S. airline, APS and e.Digital are providing the first portable IFE solution to the airline industry at a significantly reduced cost."
Bill Boyer, Jr., President of APS, said, "As a certified airline service and equipment provider, we have established key relationships with major airlines. In our business dealings with these airlines we recognized the substantial cost they would have to incur to upgrade their fleets with embedded IFE systems. Beginning with a major U.S. airline, APS and e.Digital are providing the first portable IFE solution to the airline industry at a significantly reduced cost."
Can't wait to hear more on this~According to Harvey Applebaum, Vice President, Non-Theatrical Sales; and Julian Levin, Executive Vice President, Non-Theatrical and Digital Exhibition at Twentieth Century Fox, "We have been in discussions with APS on this cutting-edge technology. It has great potential to provide a new and complementary method of delivering In-Flight Entertainment to passengers. It also has the capability to provide entertainment options for children."
yes jimee, and I find it quite interesting that Apple doesn't need to commoditize its product. Keeping their high price points leaves room for EDIG to maneuver.
Not everyone is loyal to the MAC world or can afford their price points.
That opens a space for the O-1000 with VoiceNAV.
Scroll away !
re: EDIG's TREO in The Good Guys Sunday paper Advertisement...
They are offering 3 price points:
Rio 64mb @ $129.99
Sims 128mb @ $159.99
e.Digital 15 gigs @ $179.99
and mention Sony, Philips/Nike, Panasonic, Rio, Sims Digital and e.Digital...on sale
with the side note that this sale excludes APPLE's iPod.
Interesting that the high end market success isn't yielding on its price just yet.
richardosborne,
I agree with your take on this.
What we don't know is how the market will interpret a major airline contracting with EDIG or how the market will digest that market potential...and when you multiply that by several potential airlines, the PPS will likely go one direction from here.
Fujitsu-Ten has got to be close to moving forward with their product since we are now one year from when the collaboration first was announced and all indications are that it is moving forward...and then the Odyssey 1000...OEMs ???
There is a lot of potential for the market to digest here and should news come from our high profile partners, the market will decide PPS...then it is up to the company to keep the ball rolling.
richardosborne, all those models existed when EDIG made its historical run...the market felt otherwise.
You never know when or what "event" will put a company on the map. With EDIG firmly involved in several high profile markets, utilizing their proprietary technology, things could change, as we move from the preliminary stages of development to a marketable scenario.
Few believed the otcbb EDIG could run with the big dogs when IPOs were driving the market, but it did.
I never predict price because the market is NOT an exact science...the market will set the price.
What will always be the case with the market is that it can and will reflect price based on anticipated earnings and not necessarily wait for the numbers to be delivered...especially on an emerging company entering NEW growth markets...of which the new IFE opportunity, Odyssey 1000 and auto infotainment all represent.
Sentinel, EDIG was $.20 when they had no products for the consumer markets and the microOS was not much more than a patent.
Today, with a growing MP3-jukebox market, from 128 mb flash units to 20 gig VoiceNAV units, the potential for revenue generation remains high and we have seen this demonstated during the past year or two from better capitalized companies in a tough economic environment.
Investment requires optimism combined with DD.
Throw IFE and the Eclipse product lines into the mix, and any market success will bring a substantially higher PPS.
It's just a matter of when these projects get off the ground and efforts are being made on all fronts for such to take place.

I do remember them stating you would have a delay buffer to allow downloading directly from the radio...

bashers received a contract extension out to 2007, but the terms make it a bit more difficult for them to fear monger...lol....but they will try. You can sense their desperation on RB as they continue to lose their audience.
While RB dies a slow death because the bashers/junior day traders there are allowed to scream all day long, EDIG continues to move forward.
With the Odyssey 1000 in production and being shipped, and CES 2003 about to further inform shareholders of the company's latest developments in new markets, not to mention the debt restructuring on favorable terms to EDIG, AND an improving economy maybe, finally, 2003 will likely be a better year.
It appears the focus is back on the business of the company.
