AAPL ACTION
Some pullback happening 78.29. Insider Selling: Tim Cook VP - 250000 Shares. Looking to double my stake on AAPL at 77 a share.
BR, Altaire4
AAPL Speculation
I'm expecting a small pull back to between 77 - 78 dollars a share before the big push into the 80's.
BR, Altaire4
AAPL approaching 77.00 a share.eom
OT: MicroSloth
ACE at least Linda knows what a True Innovative Company Is (AAPL, ....). Your too focused on MSFT's past glory.
What happened to the stock price ? Based on your chart After 2000 the stock price fell off a cliff.
Do you think its under-valued and unloved ?
The legal profession would disagree with you.
You should either pump up that stock price with all the profits you've made on MicroCrap ..... or get over it and back companies with real innovative ideas on the way up rather than a Tech dinosuar like MicroSloth.
br, Altaire4 ...... Too much Redmond Kool-Aid kills the senses.
OT: LongTard gonna be late: 2007
ACE, If you think Microsoft is under valued then your hanging around the wrong investment board. This is an Apple investment board you should spend more time on MSFT investment boards sipping Redmond Kool-aid. If MSFT breaks below 23 dollars a share you should buy every share you can afford after all its going to end up in MSFT's Coffers after you buy those LongHorn and Office(Tard)Horn ...ShoeHorn.... licenses.

Optimizing Mac OS X on a G4 Mac Mini
1. Re-Format a Mac Mini with at least Two Partitions
2. Install Mac OS X Panther on the first or Primary partition and remove the Foreign Language localizations you don't use.
3. Use a Software called Swap Cop to have the swap file save to a partition other than the primary one with the Mac Operating System.
4. Use either Cocktail or Onyx to tweak or disable the various setting that you don't need.
5. Download and install an Optimized G4 build of FireFox.
6. Run only Mac OS X native applications .... when possible. Carbon and Classic applications bogs the system down.
The end result will be a wicked fast and stable system that will outperform a stock Mac Mini by 10 - 15 percent. The secret ingredient is saving the swap file to another partition.
This will work on any G4 system running system 10.2 or higher with 512 MB of Ram or higher.

Thanks Steve Jobs !!!
This BTO price cut is a Big Win for those who have been contemplating purchasing a Mac Mini but are not DIY types.
Apple can afford to gamble on a bigger share of the PC market now that iPod and Music revenues are on a tear. The timing of this strategic Apple move is perfect.
For nearly a decade .... their has been a malaise and misconception. No one could compete against Microsoft and Intel and Win; said the pundits.
Apple is doing just that.
I hope this proves to many industry pundits that innovative products and services with a winning strategy can get results in this market place.
As consumers we all benefit from this kind of competition.
Thanks Steve Jobs and the entire staff of Apple Inc. for changing the Personal Computing lanscape once again.
Just as Apple transformed the Personal Computer with the Macintosh 21 years ago the iPod, Mac OS X and the Mac Mini are transforming it again.

Ram Disk Trade-Off
Linda the contents of any Ram disk should be backed up on a regular basis. The speed and performance increases are astounding and well worth the trade of for some applications.
Br, Altaire4
Hot Tip: Ram Disk on a Mac Mini
Setting up a Ram Disk can vastly improve that situation on a Mac Mini.
Ram Disk Creator 1.0.1
What's a Ram Disk?
Refers to RAM that has been configured to simulate a disk drive. You can access files on a RAM disk as you would access files on a real disk. RAM disks, however, are approximately a thousand times faster than hard disk drives. They are particularly useful, therefore, for applications that require frequent disk accesses.

MacMini ..... margins
Apple is a business .... protecting its margins. Its more profitable for AAPL to encourage users to get an Apple Authorized upgrade.
2) If there is demand, Apple will probably do it.

iPod Shuffle Stampede
New iPods sellout in an hour
Consumers on stampede to get hands on the Shuffle
By Candice Choi
Staff Writer
The first crop of Apple's elusive iPod Shuffle is being plucked off shelves as quickly as they appear in stores across the Valley this week.
The first 100 Shuffles that arrived at the Apple Store in the Glendale Galleria on Monday sold out within an hour and the Northridge store was wiped out in three hours, said employee Rob Lamog.
Did anyone have any doubts about the newest iPod ?

Quartz Rendering or Display Hardware Quality ?
The quartz rendering engine in Mac OS X is part of what makes Apple displays so sought after. How much is the display quality of the hardware and how much of it is the quartz rendering engine ?

Clear with the latest product announcements and the blowout earnings its safe to say I'm in it for the long term. The iPod Shuffle and the affordable Mac Mini is going to drive earnings into the stratosphere. Apple did a great Job of differentiating its products and those that pass on the Mac Mini may go for the G5 iMac or PowerMacs. I do believe that we will see some price reductions on the PowerMacs as the new G5 processor begins to ramp up this year.
BR, Altaire4 ..... Go AAPL !!!!
Mac Mini and the G4 Processor
The Mac Mini is a great system for someone wanting to run Mac OS X on a budget. You can upgrade the Monitor, Keyboard and mouse as your budget allows. That kind of flexibility has been missing from Apple's system line-up for a long time. This is also good news for those manufacturers that have been making peripherals for Apple systems.
Is the G4 Obsolete ?
Not by a long shot. Freescale is developing Dual-Core G4's so the G4 processor still has a very long life ahead of it. The low power consumption of the G4 makes it ideal for a Mac Mini enclosure.
For those who want the absolute best performance Apple can deliver you need to consider an Apple system with a much faster bus speed than a Mac Mini. The iMac G5 or dual Power Mac G5's will fit the bill when only the highest performance is needed.
Apple now has a Mac for every users needs. The Mac mini fits the bill for the average user at a cost that will not bust the piggy bank.
BR, Altaire4
Software Optimized for the G4
The G4 in some ways is a better processor today than the G5. Most Mac applications now take full advantage of the G4 Altivec instruction set. The IBM G5 has many additional instruction sets that developers have not coded their apps for. The future is the G5 with 64 bit processing but its still only a promise. Many developers even after 10.4 Tiger arrives will be slow to re-code their apps to take full advantage of what the G5 is capable of.

Mac Mini interest
The introduction of the Mac Mini has renewed discussions of switching in the organization I support. I've already heard of three users that have already ordered one. The chief reasons sited for the purchases is the price and protection from Viruses and Malware. I downplay the last reason because although that is currently true ... its only a matter time before hackers turn their eyes to my favorite platform Mac OS X, that said, Mac OS X will always be a much a safer platform to use when compared to the Glass Pane Microsoft produces.

Cocktails: Saffire Bombay Gin, Tonic Water with a twist of Green APPLE schnapps. Yummm
Altaire4 ... Go AAPL !!!
G5 Powerbook .....
In a more general way this means that IBM has made a breakthrough in producing Low Power High Performance chips. If you believe that energy prices are going to go through the roof then you might consider this a big advantage.
It makes the prospects of a G5 Powerbook a shoe-in.
naahhh Roni just doin the Apple Shuffle.eom
Doing the Apple Shuffle
Hi Linda ... Congrats on your AAPL position.
I have a small position in AAPL remaining which I've left to go long again. I really under-estimated Apple this time around. I could have made alot more money from APPLE .... but I'm holding on to some other long positions that will pay off in 2 -5 years from now.
I've learned a very valuable lesson about not shorting a Stock you know is a winner. I'm going to buy a few more shares in dips below 70.
I'll post my experiences with the iPod Shuffle after a couple days when it arrives.
BR, Altaire4
Now that sounds like a perfect use for the Mini.
Post pictures of the setup when your done.
BR, Altaire4
iPod Nation ?
I just Purchased a 1 GB iPod Shuffle with and an armband accessory. I never considered purchasing an iPod before because I store most of my music on a mobile Powerbook and an iMac. Now I can work out at the GYM longer without being bored.
BR, Altaire4
ACE is just delusional
Accepting Change is a difficult process .... ACE wants to delude himself and everyone else into thinking that Apple systems are just for Artsy types when the reality is very different.
Is APPLE listening in on AAPL iHub ?
from my post # 25318
My biggest pet peeve with AAPL is its unwillingness to get aggressive on price. AAPL should introduce a headless G5 iMac at $499.00 or lower as a loss leader to woo even more switchers to the Mac OS X platform.
The Mini Mac may not be a G5 but the G4 1.2 - 1.4 Ghz with Altivec is a damn good processor for most peoples needs.
Thank you Steve Jobs !!!!
Go AAPL !!!!!
Ace are you calling people like Rush Limbaugh ..... Artist's, (Con Artists maybe) but Artists jonesing for an iPod Shuffle.
HOPING that maybe you might not be a total dullard & understand that Apple's ONLY stronghold (if you wish to call it that) is with "artsy types" like musicians. You stay oblivious to how yor Fischer Price toy works.
Surely you must be Joking.
Kudos to all iHub AAPL longs !!!!
Blow Out quarter confirmed with the After Hour Volume .... to the Moon Alice ... Too the Moon
This board has done an excellent job of analyzing AAPL both Pro an Con over the last year. For many our optimism has been rewarded with some excellent returns.
For those who watched Steve Jobs presentation:
The head of Sony took center stage and Jobs seems to be courting them for some bigger things relating to computers. Anybody have a sense of what Jobs is up too ?
The question is Where does AAPL go from here ?
ACE Just doesn't get it !!!
Blue, Ace doesn't want to understand that most people who use computers are oblivious to how they work.
You and I know that the vast majority uses computers to just communicate and surf the internet and are totally uninterested in *arting around with hardware and software issues. Ace, wants to be content in a world where everyone has to contend with these issues because it makes him feel self important and needed. Technology should empower people not make them feel inadequate. The Mini Mac is going to do great things for Apple and detractors like ACE will never be satisfied they deserve having their wallets picked by the aging WinTel monopoly.
BR, Altaire4
Mac Mini a good Value ?
The Cube did not sell because of its price. The Mac Mini is a good value at the 499.00 - 599.00 price.
The Impressive Value of the Mac mini
Dan Knight 2005.01.11
Apple really outdid themselves this time - they've build a whole Macintosh into a 6.5" square case that's just 2" high. And it looks stylish. And it's just US$499.
Honestly, I wasn't expecting anything this stylish in an entry-level headless Mac. I can hardly comprehend how they managed to squeeze a Combo drive, a hard drive, a motherboard, and even a tiny speaker into such a compact space. The Mac mini is a lot smaller than those "zero footprint" SCSI drives we used back in the Mac Plus era. Those generally measured 9.6" wide, over 10" deep, and at least 3" high.
What Apple has really invented here is the hand-holdable, transportable desktop computer. It weighs less than three pounds (plus the external power supply), works with any USB mouse or keyboard, and connects to any DVI or VGA display. With a $19 adapter, you can even connect it to most modern TVs using S-video.

Go AAPL !!!
Now thats Aggressive Pricing
Finished watching the keynote and Jobs sold me on the iPod Shuffle. The Price is right and it will double as a software storage device to support systems. This aggressive pricing by AAPL is refreshing and is going to make both the iPod Shuffle and the Mac Minis a hit with mainstream consumers.
Thanks Steve Jobs !!!!!
Go AAPL !!!!
ditto
2b these new elegant affordable Mac Minis will introduce computing to a whole new generation that have had to settle for mediocre systems. This is a very historic day and a year from today we will significant marketshare for a well deserved company.
MacMini ..... Sweet !!!!
Ordering a MacMini today with the superdrive option. This is gonna be huge !!!!
Altaire4 ...... Go AAPL !!!!!!!
Headless iSomething ?
The Headless iSomething may be more of an iPod than an iMac .....the truth will be told today.
Go AAPL !!!!
Win that is just a lowend solution
Higher end solutions also exist you just have to look around. The fact is a G4 1.2 GHZ system with the right card and system bus is more than capable of generating the results your looking for.
BR, Altaire4 .... Go AAPL !!!
Looks like AAPL is consolidating for a run at 70 dollars a share ?
The question is will AAPL sell on the good news or will it catapault it into new territory ?
The Optimist in me says AAPL will go to new highs .... after they blow away the quarter.
Go AAPL !!!!

Go AAPL !!!!!
OT: Bill Gates Digital Lifestyle
is Just embarrassing ....
After chalking up over 14,000 steps yesterday on my pedometer - that's over seven miles - traipsing all over this town and the huge CES show, it's off and running again this morning.
The highlight so far: The blue screen of death that showed up during a demo as Bill Gates was outlining Microsoft's plans for the future during his keynote.
That was just one of several glitches that had the audience in stitches, primarily because the format Gates used in the keynote had him being interviewed by NBC-TV's Conan O'Brien. A remote control that Gates was using failed to show some photos not once but twice, prompting O'Brien to quip: "Who's in charge of Microsoft, anyway?"
Gates seemed to take it all in stride with a smile.
