louismsg: I sold all my AAPL also - twice - both times due to concern about the options backdating exposure. Both times I bought back, missing a little but not much of the upward movement.
I am still concerned about the options backdating issue. I am not sure how I will proceed. Gotta a bunch of cash left but did buy a little AAPL a while back and loaded up this morning. Not sure how long I will hold those load up shares.
Sucks being an investor, sometimes.
Bought some back @ 73.68 this morning, having sold at 74.something last week. Apparently the market is not as nervous as I am about the options thing. This is about 1/4 of the previous position and will hold it through earnings.

Wall Street Journal says Fed prosecutors looking at Apple' options backdating - per report on CNBC.
AAPL, options backdating news
I sold some at 74.45, some at 74.42 this morning.
My money, think I'll keep it - if it means leaving some on the table, you less risk averse folks can have it :).
The options thing is big news, I suppose
But I am hoping that the political news continues to roll and the Repubs lose the House and hopefully the Senate as well.
That would be good for the ole USA
Indeed it would

Wide range of MacBook estimates for the quarter just passed:
Citibank: Analysts for Citgroup on Monday said they expect Apple Computer to sell as many as 18.8 million iPods during the December quarter, but cut their rating on shares of the company to "Hold" from "Buy" due to a lack of potential revenue upside in the near term.
"The sum of a week’s worth of Asian data points suggests little potential for upside to consensus revenue estimates for either the September or December quarters," analyst Richard Gardner told clients in a research note on Monday."While we are modestly raising our September and December quarter revenue estimates, our new estimates are not meaningfully above current consensus."
For the third calendar quarter ending September, the analyst increased his revenue estimate from $4.63B to $4.68B to reflects stronger-than-expected MacBook sales. He said MacBook sales for the quarter are now tracking close to 575,000 units compared to his previous estimate of 540,000 units. He is also modeling for sales of 9 million iPods during the quarter, including 5 million iPod nanos and 1 million iPod shuffles.

CSFB: Credit Suisse analyst Robert Semple on Monday cited MacBook sales strength as he raised his estimates for Apple's current quarter, which is the fourth of its 2006 fiscal year, as well as for the company's next fiscal year, which begins Oct. 1. He expects Apple to sell at least 775,000 of the new laptops this quarter, well over the 580,000 units he initially estimated. As a result, he's adding US$215 million to his original $4.6 billion revenue estimate for this quarter.

Downgrade by Citi
based on no new video iPods for holiday quarter, from the short I read.
Bought AKAM after a downgrade a couple of weeks ago - that has worked pretty well :).
Options backdating investigation
What are the odds of not good news (the backdating thing) being released around the same time as good news (earnings)?
What do you'se people think?
My impression is that these differences in core duo, core2duo etc....
Are not as important to the average consumer as they are to so-called "computer sophisticate" consumers. Any recommendation that included the ability to run Windows without the ability to run OS X would be a non-starter.
For those paying attention to really important parts of computer life - such as the ability to bask in the security (real or perceived) of OS X vs. Windows - these may be a lot more important than marginally more horsepower that is not at all needed for the computer tasks for which they will use their purchase.
All of the above and more
Mostly, in my opinion, it is going to be a Macintosh units this quarter and next quarter, with other lines playing supportive roles.
I think Macs are starting to gain traction and the growth in units sold will accelerate for an undetermined length of time.
AAPL, ADBE, AKAM
Go with the A's :).
<Why was Linda banned?>
I noticed it earlier this weekend. Clicked on the Bans link and then clicked on the number of the person who banned her. It was Matt. I suggest you ask him. I suspect anyone here who knows why probably won't post the reason.
I don't why and I do not care to engage in public speculation.
Hidden Dimensions - Apple's Magic Sauce for Home Theater
This is a pretty good read. I highly recommend it. If it has already been posted, it is worth being posted twice.

Ms. Roni was in the air Tuesday when the season premiere of NCIS was broadcast. Being Luddites, we don't have no steenken DVR and I did not record the broadcast in any way. Ms. Roni, however, really likes NCIS - a weakness, I know, but I do love her.
So, yesterday evening I bought the episode for US$1.99 and she got to watch it on the 20" iMac. The experience was plenty good, and no commercials :).
OT: Are you still headed south this winter?
Yes we are headed south in December, to the Yucatan Peninsula this time - Merida, Isla de Mujeres and Playa del Carmen. Michoacan is pretty safe if you stay outta dives and don't hang out with narco-police - heard the NPR story yesterday.
bootz and ljk
Please take your tawdry little affair off-list :)
thanks
Ron
<Bush then would be impeached.>
One can hope.
re: AKAM
I bought yesterday @ 44.62, So far so good.
OT: AKAM
Thoughts on whether this mornings downgrade and subsequent drop in share price consitutes a good buying opportunity - on fundamentals and/or technicals??
thanks in advance
Ron
OT Woo-Hoo ADBE. EOM.
I counter with Gibson, Boyer, Groat, White, Flood, Javier, McCarver :).
Options backdating issue
This issue hanging over AAPL - has it affected your investments in APPL. If so, how?
I'm fine with the reports of today's media event. It was saved by the sneak preview, IMO.
Any speculation on effect on 2007
<So far the announcements are actually better than I expected,>
Kinda of reminds me of the President's claim when he said he was a master of low expectations *grin*
If that's all there is my friends
then lets keep dancing
lets break out the booze :)
Took profits on shares of AAPL bought at 68.21 and 68.69 - sold for 72.17 and 72.16. Still holding about 55% of pre-sale position.
Thinksecret says major studios sit out announcement.
Sell on news? Anyone planning to sell before the news?
Anyone got buy orders in for a dip?
Whazzup out there :)?
In all the anticipation and expectations (hype?) surronding today's event, I sure hope that Steve says something about this quarter's Mac sales.
Short - Yes, or short. eom
<A whole lot of bubbles are popping>
Good time to be heavy cash :).
Fidelity Cash Reserves at 4.97% yield now.
What a difference a year makes.
Added to our AAPL positions last week.
Standing pat for now.
Oh, FWIW, sold almost all of my PM stocks last week - Thursday and Friday - sold two of three remaining positions early this morning. About 50% cash now.
The point is this
The Republicans under Bush-Cheney has lied their asses off about everything connected to foreign policy and terrorism since 9-11. Now ABC appears ready to join them in their dastardly lies.
The former Repub Gov of NJ is the only member of the 9-11 commission who advised on the movie, and he was paid to, I believe. ABC is becoming a co-conspirator with the lying Republicans who have been steering our country towards ruination.
And that is the Gospel Truth :).
AAPL sure is entertaining :)
As the gentle readers may recall, I sold all our AAPL back in August when the options thing was getting bigger in the news. Cost basis was 59.90, average selling price was 67.09, so I felt ok about that.
Started buying a bit back, as reported here. Now have a position that is about 45% of the size of the one I sold earlier, and the cost basis is 69.50. Last buy was today at 72.74. Holy Cow of Calcutta.
Iffen a phone or multipurpose hand-held gizmo comes out and/or iffen a home media hubba-bubba come along with it, then I am suspecting Apple will go up and up and up some more between now and January 2008 - as long, of course, as people have enough equity left in their homes to buy all this neat gee-whiz technology.
I'd like me one of them 24" iMacs, but not at this time - will probably buy again right before early retirement, assuming that is still something that happens in my lifetime.
roni, where are ye laddie? I'm assuming Oaxaca isn't on your upcoming itinerary?
I am here - was out to Missouri and Illinois over the holiday weekend. Enjoying today a whole lot - we're at 13% AAPL, a bit of ADBE, a dash of AKAM and truckloads of miner' stocks - and some DPTR
Time to make some money, apparently.
Apple recalling 1.1 million laptop batteries. eom.
fi, don't equivocate - tell us how you really feel *laugh* eom.
What does one do under such circumstances? My solution is to own enough gold stocks so that I would be happy to see the gold price rally, but also have enough cash so that I would be equally happy to see the gold price fall, since then I could add to my positions at more attractive prices. It's a win-win position and it sure beats sleepless nights worrying about what the market is going to do next week.
That is pretty much were I am with PM stocks
Risk to Jobs or Apple
There are obviously unknowns. I have re-opened a position in AAPL, but it is small, 10% of the one I sold at a $7 a share gain at $67.
We'll see what happens. I think Apple will be a large growth story going forward - a big chunk of that is based on growth in Mac sales. Without that piece, I am way wrong :). The options thing - it is risk I still do not care for, hence the small position. Absent that risk, I would hold a large position. As it is, I'll wait for and hope for dips. My thought at this point is that I will increase the position some before this quarter's earnings are released.
Nope, have not been to Uxmal. May go, but I remember spoiling more vacations by doing too much than by not doing enough - and we have Celestun and a day or two exploring the Gulf coast in those parts penciled in.
Uxmal has been on our list - but what we don't get to today, there is always tomorrow
