Zen....NO, I don´t think Wave will get its chance in this right now. Trust me I want our SP to rise in the near future more than many others here! But I´m sure that the future of security is ALL about hardware security. Who will win this race on the software management side. I don´t know, but I bet on Wave. BTW, don´t be surprised to see TPMs in cars in the near future....
TC and TPMs have ALREADY WON the race, now we have to look who will win the software race.

Zen88...sorry, but WRONG
"'TPMs still need to be centrally managed', well, not really, unless it's in an enterprise network."
Corporate network! In THIS case machines have to be authenticated to a WORLDWIDE network to KNOW WHO is ALLOWED to do WHAT and WHEN! Can you talk DRM and surveillance?

HP laptops get full disk encryption
By Tim Greene, Network World
HP is shipping laptops that include full disk-encryption (FDE) software from SafeBoot to prevent data falling into the wrong hands when laptops are lost or stolen.
The software installed on the devices inserts itself in the boot process, so users must authenticate themselves to the software before the operating system kicks in.
If the device is lost or stolen, SafeBoot device encryption prevents anyone without the proper authentication - which can include two-factor authentication - from accessing the machine.
The software on the laptops is intended for small and mid-size businesses that don't necessarily have the resources to buy and manage enterprise-sized disk encryption, said HP.
The version of SafeBoot software on the HP laptops was custom made for HP. The company says it plans to upgrade it over time to include other authentication technology.
HP is rolling out the SafeBoot-equipped laptops now as it delivers its 2007 models, a spokesperson says.

Doma.....in this case, it´s not about encryption methods. It´s about centralized TPM management in mixed environments. Since HP has mixed environment trought it´s offerings itself and NO server management tools, I think (hope) they´ll soon come aboard. FDEs will be a driver for Wave, there is no doubt, but unilke many others here, I think that FDEs will NOT be the reason for HUGE bundling arrangements. FDEs may be the reason, WHY upgrades sales will accelerate, IMO.
BR
ISPRO
Doma.....I´d like to see them on board too, but IMO since Lenovo and Dell are enemies, I think they won´t go with us. FWIW, I prefer Dell and I´ll wait and see how the Lenovo sales keep plunging in the states....
I would concentrate my efforts on HP, Acer, Sony....not Lenovo, they´ve cooked their own soup in the past.

Slate.....encryption....
You can´t turn off the encryption of the FDE. It´s an automatic prozess in the controller of the drive. What you CAN turn off is the authentification for the drive. The drive will act like a normal drive except the onthefly encryption. With turned off preboot authentification its nearby worthless since data could be accessed and downloaded on an usb device. That was the problem with the sleep mode. The drive is NOT shut down in sleep mode (only in hibernate) and windows is still running. So you can easily access the data. This issue was fixed by Wave.

Slate...I was kidding, of course the FDEs are important as stand alones too and lost UNACCESSABLE data is a really good thing. But EVERY enterprise will get problems if they don´t have the ability to manage the key on a central server.
BR
ISPRO
AWK...thanx, one question.
Am I right in my assumption, that with ESC only, the ERAS can access the drive or TPM (and no communication the other way around) but WITHOUT centralised Key management you´ll have to set up a LOCAL Administrator. IF the local Administrator changes the password the ERAS has NO more access to the drive and NO chance to restore the password setting.
I got the impression, that one of the biggest benefits of Key management in conjunction with ERAS is, that you don´t need to have a LOCAL Administrator to manage your drives passwords and profiles..
TIA and BR
ISPRO
Slate....in general you are right, but
HOW often have you used the "forgotten password" link in the web?
KEY management is MOST important, since the data is LOST if the user is LOST!LOL

oknpv (thanx) et all re: bundling, functionalities, requirements, types of modules....
I´ll try to explain Waves modules, functionalities and bundling combinations with their requirements as I see it. I hope I´m not too far off, but I´m sure (and hope) our techies will correct me.
Waves software client sided:
- ESC/CSP
- ETDM (NOT stand alone a plugin into ESC)
- ETSL (same functionality as ETS but without CLIENT Key Transfer Manager and only 1 vault available regardless if local or on a mapped drive.
- ETS full functionality (except ETDM if NOT integrated in ESC)
Bundlings client sided:
- ESC/CSP: chip vendors to device manufacturers (mobos, drives...) OR PC OEMs on demand
- ETDM: drive manufacturers OR PC OEM depending on a distribution agreement
- ETSL: PC OEMs, mobo manufacturers and even chip manufacturers
- ETS. NO!!! bundling
OK lets begin at the lowest level of the supply chain the chip manufacturers:
They are bundling ESC and deliver it with the TPM to the mobo manufacturers or directly to the PC OEMs. Thats the 10centg deal. As an example ST delivered a bunch of TPMs to Dell, Intel and GTW, as the ship to (at least for us) unknown OEMs and whiteboxers. As we know ST still delivers to GTW and Intel, but they were kicked off Dell. To my surprise the ST revenues remained constant at least. Obviously ST has developed a new market in Asia, where ST has to deliver MORE = ETSL.
The TPM makers won´t ship anything if they aren´t ask to do so. Thats why we haven´t see much from Broadcom (HP) and Atmel, Winbond (Lenovo). ST and Winbond decided to enhance their offering and if I had to guess, I would say they were asked by customers to do it. ESC and ETSL is all about managing and using the TPM. Since TPMs become more and more visible the OEMs need to manage them, thats why we´ll see more and more new bundlings or amendments from exsisting partners.
IMO a chip maker will NEVER bundle ETDM.
The device maker (mobos) are the main the first main target for Wave for the ETSL bundle. Mobos are spread around the globe in EVERY single PC and other devices. All the big PC OEMs are using the same mobos from these manufacturers (of course there are lot of different mobos).
PC OEMs get ESC from the chip makers and add ETSL to our bottom line, but only if the PC OEM want the ESC. (Unfortunately not HP)
Wave will never get paid twice, but the more bundlings in the supply chain the better our saturation of the TPM market. For example imagine
- a small OEM with ST TPM and an Asus mobo. ST will deliver ETSL
- ST shipping to Intel: ESC, Intel ETSL
- BRCM to HP: NADA
- BRCM to DELL: ESC
......
ETDM:
It´s a plugin to ESC and for the client side you NEVER need ETSL or ETS if you look on the client ONLY.
Only drive makers and PC OEMs will bundle ESC/ETDM. Why should a chip maker or mobo manufacturer do so?
Functionalities and requirements:
ESC: TPM management client sided WITH client sided key management
ESC/ETDM: including preboot authentication of FDEs (even on machines without TPMs)
ETSL: including PIM, Vault etc....
ETS: including KEY TRANSFER MANAGER and multiple vaults.
Do we need ETS to be able to setup an FDE drive remotely with ERAS?
NO!!!!! We only need ESC/ETDM
Do we need ETS to be able to erase a drive remotely via ERAS?
NO!
Do we need ETS to restore the password if the user has forgotten his password? YES!!!
...and IMO it´s all about KEY management, storage and backup. With or without FDEs, ETS is needed IF you want to cetralize manage KEYs! (NOT FDEs, but their KEYs)
...IMO ERAS is scanning the network for ESC machines. ERAS is communicating with ESC to set up TPMs and with ETDM for the FDEs. I believe you can remotely do everything with ERAS until the user knows and changes the admin password. Then the FDE or TPM is out of control without ETS and EKTM on the server side.
So it wouldn´t make sense for ANY enterprise to buy FDEs or TPM machines WITHOUT server sided management tools!
And thats what we all are hoping for....
Hopefully you´ve made it down to this line and if so you´ve earned a BEST REGARDS!LOL

Methinks.....in the latest discussions, we obviously all forgot, that we had 30% more revenues in Q1 than in the hole year of 2005. Each other stock would rise in an exponential manner! Since we all followed Wave patiently over the years, we lost our patience and want things to take place in the next weeks.
We forgot, that we´re heading in the right direction, nobody of our partners dropped us, they amended their offerings of Wave software.
WHY.....
....is STM bundling our ETSlite: STM ships to many Whiteboxers and smaller OEMs. Perhaps they were requested to do so
....did we see Winbond amending their bundling, just before the launch of Lenovo FDE equipped notebooks: Don´t want to speculate on this.
....has STX chosen Wave to manage their FDE drives and not companies like Utimaco, they HAD a relationship in the past: No idea
....is Intel expanding their Wave equipped MOBO line: Hmmmm
....is GTW shipping 18 models with PREINSTALLED ETSL, instead of the optin: perhaps their consumers told them to do so
....replaces Dell old models (D520) without TPMs with new TPM and Wave equipped models: guess TPM won´t make their way!LOL
What would you all think IF Broadcom would do the same as STM and Winbond did, regarding the HP/BRCM machines?
As I stated in a post days ago!
We shouldn´t forget where we are and where we have been a few months ago!

Ramsey...the BIOS is in a sepcial way similar to the TPM. These chips are OS independent and can´t be administrated remotely. Modern tools can access the BIOS via OS (same for TPM LOL).
The ONLY reason WHY TPMs are activated in the systems delivered with VISTA is the fact that Vista has all TPM driver within the OS. Thats good for us, since the driver is all for us, but NOTHING for the user.
Since Dell is able to customize the machine in the factory most TPMs will be turned on, IMO

Fear and greed........that´s all investing is about!
Fear and greed are the reasons why
....investors make money
....investors lose money
....companies survive
....companies die
....friends are fighting agains each other
....couples are divorced
....
The proxy showed us all, who and where we are. We all missinterpreted the proxy in a way we´re feeling. Both the pros and the cons made their decision cause fear or greed. Some, me included were afraid to earn less money they awaited, others were afraid to lose all by voting against management. Both, fear and greed driven decisions are well founded and coherent.
We all thought, management made their decision driven by greed in an unrespectable manner, forgetting about the shareholders, who supported Wave for a decade. We were wrong, obviously management has a really deep vision, trying hard to bring this baby up and while doing so, they forgot Waves operational circumstances.
Thats good news, REALLY HUGE news, since SKS seemed to lose credibility. For this time he has earned everything back he lost, he realized it´s time to act instead of speak. Thats what CEOs are about. While management is discussing the CEO has to lead the company to the promised land.
When SKS told Snackman, all investors who don´t feel comfortable with the proxy, should vote against it, I tended to think, it´s just another.....
I was proved WRONG!
Thank God, we´ve invested in a REAL company, with an ubiquitous product and hard working SKS (BOD).
Thanx again for the proof of the obvious, since folks like me have lost the focus (big picture) due to fear and/or greed!
