your words in God's ear my friend. I'm hanging long on both. good to hear from you btw!
That's good info, thanks. I figured that would be the case.
This will go higher - lots higher - and smart money knows it.
It's just a matter of when.
Too funny :)
I got 99 problems...
but a lack of final distribution ain't one.
Go long.
...and that is why most mom and pop investors miss the boat when they pick stocks and/or control their portfolios themselves.
They jump in and out, and miss the boat when good stocks move up they way they should. It just never happens in our timeframe, so they inevitably guess wrong. And the pro's make big returns.
Holding AAL is the only move here, and buying the dips when possible.
Yeah buddy!!
Soooo jealous....
It's articles like this that remind me why I'm long on this stock, and not using it as a trading platform.
Additionally, when I see rebounds like today, I'm reminded of the wise old anecdote: "the stock market is remarkabley efficient at transferring money from the active to the patient".
Look how quickly we landed on dividends AND stock buy-backs…. remarkable. I only wish I was liquid enough to scoop up more.
I am not aware of any SEC rule, and I don't have any authority, qualifications, etc. etc here.
I have heard of this type of rule before, and it's probably more along the lines of rules for certain conservative funds. If anybody out their has input it would be helpful, but I'm really just passing along here-say at this point.
The dividend rule I am absolutely aware of, but the bankruptcy rule is a whisper of a hint of a rumor.
Either way this is the largest/newest airline in the world, which has within a year of bankruptcy and merging, declared both a dividend and a $1 billion (that's b… billion) stock buy-back.
I know where I'm parking my money.
(yes, "Parker-ing" would have been the easy pitch…)
yup….
We've got two solid things working in our favor that will add large institutional investment:
1) the eventual passing of the 1 year bankruptcy date and,
2) the recent declaration of a dividend.
That will stabilize things, but it won't be immediately forthcoming. Just gotta hang tough and keep a level head.
wish i had more to throw in. i grabbed more at 39, that was my buy in number. emphasis on was.
good luck rock,
"fortune favors the bold…"
ouch. when is Doug going to ride in and buy a billion dollars worth of this? Soon I hope...
baffling and painful.
Amen! I'm right there with yeah. And congrats on the +16k, we're neighbors :)
Fingers crossed for +50. It will come.
There was an earlier post, maybe pink, that said we're the victims of our own success. I couldn't agree more. IMO a lot of this is profit taking by a lot of lucky winners, like us.
Junkman, Ralph… where are you? We need some pep talking….
I'm not trying to make you feel bad. But that is highly unlikely, based on basic investing knowledge. No offense intended, but you need to brush up on ex-dividends, etc.
i'd hold off on that. that seems too easy. and that always scares me. :)
besides, I'm an aamrq. long is in my blood :)
agreed. picking up more.
.... make it stop.....
Oh yeah!
Long and Strong!
AAL!!!
buying and flying…
picking more up at 39+. No fear here!
wow. What a bunch of crooks.
I'd like to see what happens to any of us, if we just conveniently "lost" our tax receipts or records?

very interesting.
could be a "rising tide" event, with the overall gold bump these last few days.
Or it could be something more...
right there with you. hopefully that was our last opportunity below 40… :)
Native Corp. sold the shares Rio Tinto gave them.

Great post. Thanks for finding this.
I wish I had the capital to load up when this dipped to 39. I know I'm going to regret it when it hits 50.
We may bounce around a bit, just like we did in the 30's, but with Summer and share buy-back, this will be a $50 stock by 2015.
Good choice of words.
I've watched that after-hours stuff from time to time. It doesn't really seem to be a solid predictor in any direction as far as I can tell.
Maybe I'm a bit off here, but it seems it doesn't reliably indicate the next day's activities. I've given up paying any attention to it. Always open to an education however, if you know something I don't.
AAL, now officially know as "the comeback kid"...
There's a word that comes to mind, rhymes with...
BUY.
Oh, it is.
Just take a look at that graph (6 months, not 6 days)...
Lots of folks have made lots of money, it's only natural a certain percentage of them are going to want to cash out (the fools).
BTW although I generally loathe stinking alpo, they might actually have it right with this one:

As painful as this is to watch this morning, everybody be prepared for a rocket ride when the buy orders start to flood in.
And we will hit a price where that happens, and BOOM, to the moon! There's a ton of good earnings estimates and upward predictions out there and more coming daily.
Nice DD. Thanks for that.
Thanks :)
...and I agree, that last part was a bit class-less. But I chose to ignore it so as not to bring attention to it.
Whether we like it or not, there will be folks in Washington arguing both these perspectives . I find it useful to hear both and prepare for the outcome, and make my own investing decisions along the way.
In this case I am siding with Ackmen and Icahn, and the chips will fall where they may, regardless of my opinion.
I've really been enjoying reading the posts from you two.
I also appreciate that while you are clearly both passionate, you have kept it civil and respectful. Thanks for that.
It is unfortunate , but IMHO truthful, that you both have valid points. Both well thought out and both well stated. (disclosure-I am long, and aware it is a risky investment, but accepting of it, as any common stock investor must be).
That is the beauty of our awesome country and our awesome free market. And boards like this reflecting the ultimate in free exchanges of opinion and info. With a healthy dose of passion, debate, risk and reward.
..."If this isn't nice, what is?"
Amen brother!
Awesome. Just awesome.
I love Fridays, and AAL!!
Wowee Zoweee!
Wahoo!!!
also very well put risky. well thought out and wise as well.
thanks for the food for thought.
great posts, glad to be here.
