Turbodog-The market usually looks 6 months ahead and especially with Siri I do look at the long term possibilities. Could be because I don't trade and also bought it dirt cheap......:o}
Thank you for the realistic approach to SIRI. I think sometimes I am too subjective........;o} It is good to hear an objective view.
Being a foreigner....lol (my excuse) I wasn't quite sure, but at least a whole big part of the globe already knows about Sirius. I'll stick to the general impression......;o} They'll go there eventually.
Sirius Sat Radio does cover the world.....

The street and media has never been excited about SIRI stock, even though they can mention on the air that they love to listen to Sirius. I never could understand it.
When I first heard about SIRI it was in competition with XM and XM's stock was flying high, so they always talked good about them.
Weird all the way around. Now they can't do that.....hehe love it.
When SIRI was 900 million in the red it was a 4 dollar stock, I agree with you it should be much higher.
SIRI last year this time:

Good points!!! This is not a overnight success, there has been a lots of ups and downs and I have great respect for the founders of this company. They deserve success after all the trudging they have done....:o} Little by little they have built a huge network of companies who favor their high end product. Plus no real competition in all of their different categories of programs.
I have watched them for years and owned their stock at times. I have always liked their class act, they always stood out in a good way. I know lots of business people who subscribe to Sirius for their offices. I do believe they will become a Mega stock....;o}
Sure looks like Sirius has a finger in every pie....;o}

About worldspace 13-Sep-09 04:51 pm ....Malone has big plans Could we see gov. contracts
13-Sep-09 04:51 pm
Based in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, 1worldspace™ satellites cover two-thirds of the earth and enable the Company to offer a wide range of innovative services for consumers, enterprises and governments, including distance learning, alert delivery, data delivery, and disaster readiness and response systems. 1worldspace™ is a pioneer of satellite-based digital radio services.
Company Overview
1worldspace was founded in 1990 by Noah A. Samara, its Chairman and CEO, with a mission to provide digital satellite audio, data and multimedia services primarily to the emerging markets of Africa and Asia. A pioneer of digital satellite radio, Mr. Samara was also instrumental in the development of the satellite radio industry through his early involvement with XM Satellite Radio in the United States.
The company's mission is to provide a variety of high quality programming through a subscription-based service that uses low-cost portable satellite radios and is available in underserved markets that today lack programming choice. 1worldspace is the first and only company with rights to the world's globally allocated spectrum for digital satellite radio. Its broadcast footprint covers over 130 countries including India and China, all of Africa and the Middle East and most of Western Europe - an area that includes five billion people and more than 300 million automobiles. Its two fully operational satellites and ground infrastructure are based on proprietary and patented technology.
The Content
The company has assembled an extraordinary combination of news, sports, music, brand name content and education programming which it delivers to Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Western Europe. Currently, 1worldspace broadcasts 62 channels - 38 of which are content provided by international, national and regional third parties and 24 1worldspace-branded stations produced by or for 1worldspace. These stations represent the most popular international music formats including contemporary hits, country, classic rock and jazz.
1worldspace's program directors and radio jockeys operate from studios in Washington, DC, Bangalore, India and Nairobi, Kenya, where 18 original music and lifestyle channels are created for distribution. Four of these stations are also available in the United States, on the XM Satellite Radio network.
The Technology
The 1worldspace satellite network is comprised of two operational satellites that service three large geographic areas through three beams that are each capable of carrying up to 80 channels. These powerful L-band satellites have traveling wave tube amplifiers and on-board baseband processors that link with 1worldspace radio receivers equipped with a special micro-integrated circuit that processes the satellites' high-quality audio and data transmissions.
Broadcasters and organizations can uplink their content through a centralized hub site or an individual feeder link station. The satellite then transmits the signal received from the uplink, to any combination of the three downlink beams.

SIRIUS XM Announces SIRIUS FM-5 Satellite has Been Placed Into Service
New satellite increases broadcast power and delivers improved reception to SIRIUS subscribers
NEW YORK, Sept 09, 2009 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX News Network/ -- SIRIUS XM Radio (Nasdaq: SIRI) announced today that SIRIUS FM-5, the newest addition to the SIRIUS XM satellite fleet, was recently placed into service on the SIRIUS network. The new satellite, which was manufactured by Space Systems/Loral, provides improved signal penetration and reception to millions of SIRIUS subscribers nationwide.
(Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20080819/NYTU044LOGO )
FM-5 is now fully operational and broadcasting SIRIUS XM programming and data services to SIRIUS radios in North America. The satellite launched June 30, was guided to its final orbit position, and has successfully completed all post-launch testing.
SIRIUS FM-5 is one of the world's most powerful communications satellites and is the first geostationary SIRIUS satellite, complementing the SIRIUS fleet of three non-geostationary satellites. SIRIUS FM-5's addition to the current SIRIUS fleet significantly increases the broadcast power of the total SIRIUS network. SIRIUS FM-5 is designed to provide more focused power in areas of peak population, such as metropolitan areas on the east and west coast, as well as significantly improving reception when driving under heavy foliage. Its location in a geostationary orbit position over North America (approximately above Texas, at 96 degrees west longitude) assures that home receivers can aim at a fixed point in the southern sky to receive a signal on a constant basis.
"For our SIRIUS subscribers, FM-5 brings significantly improved performance to their cars as well as their homes and offices, or wherever they use their SIRIUS radios," said Terry Smith, Chief Engineering Officer of SIRIUS XM Radio. "We expect FM-5 to provide exceptional service for many years to come, while improving the overall performance, reliability and longevity of our satellite fleet. We congratulate our engineering team on a successful launch and implementation."
The satellite was launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan aboard an International Launch Services (ILS) Proton.

Satwaves reports that satellite radio company Sirius XM will be releasing a dock connector accessory receiver for the iPhone and iPod touch at a media event next Wednesday, allowing access full Sirius XM service via their devices.
Quote:
Sources familiar with the situation are now confirming that Sirius XM will be unveiling the iPhone/iPod Touch accessory docks that I speculated about three months ago this Wednesday, August 26th. Sirius XM will be hosting a special invitation only media event in New York that day to show off their new products to be available this holiday season. The invitation reads: "View the new lineup of radios and accessories from Sirius XM for the home, office, vehicle and beyond."
Satwaves points to a posting at XMFan showing a diagram of the accessory, which will reportedly be called the "XM SkyDock".
Quote:
The XM SkyDock is a docking station for your iPod Touch or iPhone that turns it into a SATELLITE XM Radio receiver! Included is an XM antenna, power cord (also featuring the new transmitter technology), and docking station that turns your iPod/iPhone into an actual XM Satellite Radio receiver using the SiriusXM app. This may be the biggest breakthrough in satellite radio technology to date, and could possibly bring in millions of additional subscribers. This SKYDock kit is expected to sell for less than $100.
I have Scottrade, didn't get anything from them.
One more prediction to add to your list
A message to their mobility customers has appeared on the AT&T website that reveals new info regarding MSS for the iPhone... "We know many of our iPhone customers are eager for an update on our rollout schedule for Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS). We’ve been working for the past several months to prepare our systems and network to ensure the best possible experience with MMS when it launches — and that launch date is: September 25 for iPhone 3G and 3GS customers. MMS will be enabled through a software update on that day. We know that iPhone users will embrace MMS. The unique capabilities and high usage of the iPhone’s multimedia capabilities required us to work on our network MMS architecture to carry the expected record volumes of MMS traffic and ensure an excellent experience from Day One. We appreciate your patience as we work toward that end.

You need nerves of steel with SIRI, it has always been a rollercoaster stock. One time only can I remember it was stationary for awhile. Been in it couple of times (off and on) since 2001.
Apple to Hold Media Event Sept 9th, the tagline “It’s only rock and roll, but we like it”.
Officially confirmed, Apple will hold its media event next Wednesday, September 9th in San Francisco. According to the email invitations sent out which featured the tagline “It’s only rock and roll, but we like it”, the focus of the event will be the iPod music players.
Although Apple declined to comment further on the specifics of the press event, it is generally believed that they will add a digital camera to their iPod touch and nano media players with rumors of the touch potentially receiving a video camera as well.
This event has been held every year since 2005, last year being the year that they announced their latest iPod nano and the second-generation iPod touch.
Analysts are keen to find out if this will also be the venue that the organization will use to announce their Apple tablet computer which industry insiders believe is in the works.

WorldSpace Lays Foundation for Satellite Radio in China and India (WRSP 2Q05 Conf Call Quotes)
by: Ezra Marbach September 12, 2005
about: SIRI
Despite concerns over both the company's business model and management integrity (see here) satellite radio provider WorldSpace Corporation (ticker: WRSP) is moving forward with expansion plans in China and India. The latest on China from Chairman and CEO Noah A. Samara:
....WorldSpace is the only broadcaster, foreign or domestic, with the complete national coverage ability to broadcast directly to consumers in the PRC. China is a very attractive market opportunity. There is a large demand for subscription services, with over 330 million wireless mobile phone subscribers, over 100 million cable subscribers and approximately 72 million Internet subscribers.
We have an established partner on the ground, namely, ChinaSat, which has received a license from the Ministry of Information and Industries to use the WorldSpace frequency and satellite. The next step we are working on is to get the approval of the government to put up content on the satellite that can be broadcast to consumers in China.
Our strategy on this front has been to assist the government in developing content that is both compelling and acceptable for broadcast in China. To this end we have signed MOUs in April of ’05 with China National Radio and China Radio International, the two national radio operators….
Additionally, we have started providing a very limited subscription stock data service….
Once the decision happens (Editor: Chinese government approval)…..this is something would normally take something in the 24 month-plus type of timeframe to make that happen.

We used to dial in from Helsinki across the Baltic to Tallin in Estonia on Saturdays at 1 PM just to hear American music for one hour.........sounds desperate. Europe and you know it true is BIG on status/class etc.
Funny Scottrade shows .90 on the ask.......good too....lol
Finland, Sweden and England....;o]
Grew up in Finland, parents moved to Sweden and visited many times and had a lot of friends in England that I had contact with and visited. We always were trying to dial in Radio Luxemburg that played American music there was also Free Europe on International waters who played them also......:o]

WorldSpace Satellite Radio - for Europe, China, India, South Africa...
From the WorldSpace website: "WorldSpace was the company that first brought the concept of Satellite Radio to the world. WorldSpace created the initial proprietary technology and programming infrastructure that both WorldSpace Satellite Radio and XM Satellite Radio are built on...with WorldSpace Satellite Radio, you choose what you want to hear in the language that suits you best."

And this:
On 13 May 2009, the Commission selected two operators, Inmarsat Ventures Limited and Solaris Mobile Limited, to provide mobile satellite services across Europe. The Commission Decision also identifies the specific radio frequencies to be used by each selected operator across Europe.

SIRI actually started in the end of the last housing slump. That was around 1989-1995. I know lost half the value of our house. then the next slump came with the Internet bubble. Watch China bubble burst at some point. We'll get back to spending.....lol
This is an European view of SIRI and spending in USA compared to Europe.
Europeans LOVE American Music, Radio, artists and concerts. I don't think Howard Stearn would be as popular there as here (sex isn't shocking nor bound to religion).
US music in particular is a status symbol. I am not sure how many countries Europe consists of, but the uniting language is definitely English, so Siri would fit that category. My final point is Europeans don't mind to spend on a premium product and especially if it has some artistic value.

Wonder who the Non-US resident is and if they did it. Can't tell from the writing. Lots of rumblings about Media from India and Arab countries. Whoops second thought the Arab culture wouldn't be able to stomach Stearn...lol
Jim Cramer say Mobile media Tsunami still no mention of Siri
Jim Cramer's latest line is the mobile media tsunami, and he is right about that.
Everything is going to the cell phone as they become walking computers.
Yet, Jim Cramer still refuses to mention Sirius XM Radio, which will be in not only all these phones, but in all new cars being built now.

August 21, 2009 Worth Reading: The Short Selling of the American Dream
Here is an article by Richard Keane, the Narrator for the movie Stock Shock directed by Sandra Mohr. Stock Shock is a movie that was made in June of 2009, just as the full blown recession of 2008 was coming.
Stock Shock. The Short Selling of the American Dream
August 16th, 2009
Excerptions:
"The recession was caused by the manipulation of stock prices on Wall Street through naked short selling, flash trading, high frequency trading, secret software, super fast computers and what I feel was the main cause of this corruption, " Decimal Place Trading".
"Wall Street regulation changes helped cause the problems with the first being the removal of fractions in stock pricing. On January 29th, 2001 the NYSE went to 4 decimal place trading. On March 12th, 2001 the NASDAQ followed suit. This new rule had great intention as we headed toward the computer and digital world, but over time was manipulated and companies like Goldman Sachs figured out how to take advantage of the new system. ... Well How did they do it ? There has been no report of this by any of the news media. How can this be? This corruption is 100 times the Bernie Madoff story. No coverage by CNBC or Bloomberg news. Why?"
"Stock Shock is about the technology of the future with Sirius XM Radio. The news media is fearful of the success of this company as future technology expands to the cell phones. Basically since Apple came out with the i‐phone in July 2008 Sirius XM Radio and XM Radio merged companies also in July 2008. It was the start of the walking computers via cell phones that will only get better and better in time as they upgrade and bring the news to the people instantly via these walking computers. As I write this letter it hits me. The FCC delayed the merger of Sirius and XM for 18 months so that would be 6 months prior to Uptick Rule elimination which would be January of 2007. Was the abolishment of the uptick rule established ( July 2007 ) because of these new technologies merging that would eventual create the new news media years down the road as people use these cell phones to video tape news, link there videos to You Tube and also link their photo’s and taped recordings thru these i‐phones that have all this media capabilities. Could this be the main reason why all of a sudden the up‐tick rule was abolished and what followed right after that the most shorted stock on Wall Street was Sirius XM Radio. Not only was Goldman Sachs using their advantages to take investors money away slowly like Las Vegas poker dealers, Goldman Sachs was also paying millions to CNBC."

Sirius XM Radio Receives Stealth Upgrades
22-Aug-09 07:44 am
By Brandon Matthews
As the bullish catapult formation confirms itself today, my attention has again turned to analyst recommendations. It has struck me as odd that no recent equity upgrades have been announced, despite the fact that Standard & Poors last week upgraded Sirius XM Radio’s debt rating. As it turns out, last week Reuters upgraded shares of SIRI from neutral to outperform based mostly on technical factors. Schwab likewise upgraded the equity to outperform on the 14th. I had been expecting an upgrade from S&P’s Tuna Amobi following the Satellite Radio provider’s outstanding second quarter results, which have now resulted in Sirius XM shares annihilating the analyst’s .50 price target as the stock is currently trading above .61 with no signs of slowing down.
Today, Jaywalk updated its report on Sirius XM Radio. The report is a summarized consensus based on multiple research analysts. The report reveals that as of July 31,2009 that there were 7 sell ratings out of 18 analysts that provided research on Sirius XM Radio. As of today, that number has dropped to just 3, as 4 of the research providers have upgraded Sirius XM Radio to Hold from Sell and Strong Sell ratings. 2 of the most bearish analyst’s which had strong sell ratings on the equity upgraded Sirius XM shares 2 notches to Hold in just the last three weeks.
As institutions continue to acquire more and more shares, it is likely that more rating increases will be forthcoming.
The Jaywalk Consensus (SM) metrics service provides an average of all of the independent research providers’ ratings on the given security. By averaging these ratings, investors are given insight into the independent research community’s perspective on individual securities. The research providers who participate in the Jaywalk Consensus (SM) are professional firms that attest to having no investment banking or other potential conflicts that might impact the integrity of their research.
They just mentioned on Market Watch (CNBC) Sirius one of the stocks that are on the move up. Awesome that they even mentioned it, because right now it still is a penny stock, and CNBC usually doesn't bother with them. This is not going to be a penny stock for long.
Sirius XM iPhone Dock Could Turn Every Phone Into A Satellite Radio

Sirius XM (SIRI) will announce an iPhone dock accessory at an event in New York next Wednesday that can turn any Apple (AAPL) iPhone and iPod touch into a satellite radio, Sirius watcher Satwaves reports, citing "sources familiar."
Sirius already has an iPhone app, but that only permits streaming of a limited channel lineup, and requires an Internet connection. If Sirius were to use its own satellite signals -- and the iPhone as a display/power source -- it could send all the channels it wanted, and would not require an Internet connection.
This could be an easy way to solve the problem that the iPhone app
doesn't include the Howard Stern channel.
This is just one of many interesting ways that companies can leverage the new hardware accessory features that Apple has included in its iPhone 3.0 software. For example, Qualcomm has said it plans to offer its Flo TV mobile TV service via an iPhone dock accessory, too.
