Domini Maddox (new phychologist) article:
http://deanofstudents.utexas.edu/doscentral/spot_domini.php
Domini Maddox had always been a good student. She earned a 3.95 GPA at Northwest Vista College in San Antonio before she transferred to The University of Texas at Austin to study biochemistry. Then she learned that she was expecting.
As her due date approached, Maddox took the semester off at the university but kept three part-time jobs right up until she gave birth, believing that she could count on her husband for support. When Maddox went back to school the next semester, the couple began to quarrel. "He just wanted to go party. We had a kid and I didn't think it was right to do that all the time," said Maddox. They attended counseling to try to fix their marriage, but the fighting got worse. One day he left. "He pulled everything out of the bank," Maddox said. "He took all of my savings. I had nothing." Her father gave her enough money to pay the childcare bill and some local churches helped with the first month's rent, but Maddox struggled to craft a resume and cover letters, care for the baby and complete her biochemistry courses. The rent was due again before Maddox could find a job.
Maddox said that's when Heather Davies in Counseling and Mental Health Services suggested that she visit the Office of the Dean of Students for Student Emergency Services, (SES). "It was easy to talk to La Toya Hill. She was very understanding," said Maddox. "It was apparent that the situation was having an emotional strain on her," said Dr. Hill, Assistant Dean of Students in charge of SES at The University of Texas at Austin. "In spite of everything that she was dealing with, she managed to make good grades," said Hill. Student Emergency Services and Voices Against Violence helped Maddox pay for one month of rent, provided her with gift cards to HEB and Target courtesy of Student Emergency Services grant funds from the Texas Parents Association, and connected her with other resources on campus and in the Austin community. One of the most important things Dr. Hill did was to contact the dean of Maddox's department for assistance in communicating with professors. "It helped me get caught back up in school because I had gotten so far behind. My son was still sick a lot and it was causing me to miss so many days of class," said Maddox. Dr. Hill said that she doesn't want to take too much credit for what Student Emergency Services does. "That takes away from the students' power and their own resiliency, but I do think that we play a part in helping them back up on their feet and in encouraging them to finish school," said Hill.
Although financial aid paid for tuition and some living expenses, finances got tight again when Maddox had to hire an attorney for the divorce settlement. She went back to visit Dr. Hill to get help paying for diapers. "As of now it's not so bad," said Maddox, "but when my son was younger, we were going through 15 diapers a day and that's expensive." Maddox finally became self-sufficient when she landed two part-time jobs through Hire a Longhorn. Her first job was at Mad Science, a company that sends her to elementary schools where she performs fun experiments that inspire children to get excited about science. Maddox's second job was as a laboratory research assistant at UTEX on campus, where she grows and maintains algae cultures, conducts DNA extraction, and prepares samples for sequencing, among a host of other duties.
When asked what it is like to balance motherhood with academic study and two jobs, Maddox said, "Being a parent is a lot of hard work, but it's rewarding. You make three nutritious meals plus two or three snacks every day. Plus you've got to remember to teach them how to brush their teeth, and potty train them and change their clothes." She also said that it's nearly impossible to attend evening discussion groups if she wants to push harder to improve her grades. "I have to find a babysitter and that's not always easy," said Maddox. "Sometimes [the discussions last] two hours and $20 per meeting is a lot for me right now, especially if I need to go to discussion groups for four different classes. If you think about it, that's $80 per week and that's not including daycare."
The Office of the Dean of Students established Student Emergency Services to help Longhorns in times of crisis. Dr. Hill said that in the 2007-2008 academic year SES helped 42 students and disbursed $6,700 in funding, mostly generated through donations from Party on the Plaza, grant funds from Texas Parents Association, and the Hearts of Texas Campaign. Christa Sandelier, a coordinator who works with Dr. Hill said, "Each year, as word spreads about Student Emergency Services, we serve more. Unfortunately, we are serving more with less because of a large increase in financial need coupled with lower levels of philanthropic giving." Sandelier blames the troubled economy and Hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Ike for putting more families who support college students at financial risk.
In spite of limited resources, Maddox was surprised that The University of Texas at Austin gave her so much help. "I never would have expected it, and it got me through a lot," she said. Asked what her life would have been like if she had dropped out, Maddox said, "I probably would have lived like my mother did-working at some hotel or being a waitress, hardly seeing my son and having a really rough life. I don't want that for my son. I want him to know that I'll be there every night."
On May 23, 2009, Domini Maddox donned her cap and gown for commencement and walked across the stage in the College of Natural Sciences ceremony at the Frank Erwin Center. When asked to reflect on her work with Maddox through Student Emergency Services, Dr. Hill said, "I think that completing the degree will not only inspire her to continue reaching her goals but is now setting a precedent for her child. Despite all the circumstances that have been thrown Domini's way, she continued, forged ahead and completed her degree."

0016x2 BID, 0017x3 ASK hit it one timeee
if public wouldnt the shareholders have to be transitioned over, much like any of the previous merger talks. If private, I don't even know. Can a company go from public to private? How would they handle the shareholders etc.
The news almost tempts me to think the company is on the right track, but I think we need more info and specific details.

it's funny how we can say this stuff now but we all were in the behls flawless-this-koolaid-tastes-great mode at some time along the way. We even argued with each other haha but one by one we were turned aka just looked at the reality. It's def a big lesson, and it cost me at least 25g's of profit, but since then I, and I think all of us really, have been better about holding on too long or getting caught up in the fluff. So, here's to the future
CJ posted about behl and that she was there subpenny when it launched. I responded of course but got insta-deleted. Wish she didnt show up there today :/
