DooWop...God...it's been a long time since those days on Silicon Investor ...I recently had the opportunity to attend the Data at rest seminar. There was a recurrent slogan mentioned by various people in the industry.....Companies do not want to have another CNN Moment. What is a CNN Moment...glad someone asked....It's when the CEO has to go infront of the news media and announce to the world that due to the loss of one of their laptops...confidential data for millions of individuals may have been compromised. With the new Seagate FDE drive in conjunction with Waves software....companies will NOT be required to inform the news media of the lost personal data. THIS WILL BE A HUGE MOTIVATING FACTOR....not for the security implications as much as the COVER YOUR ASS MENTALITY...(LIMIT POTENTIAL LEGAL LIABILITY)
Sincerely,
Jas
khillo....NICE WORK!!! Got to admit....I wasn't expecting Dell to come on board until April/May at the earliest....
Sincerely,
Jas
CM...I know that you and AWK are aware of this...but obviously...I had not thought much about the following until today. "FDE protects against disk and computer theft and supports RAPID ERASE of a disk drive for re-purposing and end of life." The rapid erase function... I learned... is a very good selling feature of this new drive....in addition to limiting the liability following a laptop theft.
Sincerely,
Jas
re Hitachi....Jorge Campello presented in the first session in the morning. The topic was Storage Device Encryption. The pannelists included Michael Willett (Seagate though he represented TCG for this session) Dave Anderson (Seagate) Jorge Campello (Hitachi) Ron LaPedis (Sandisk) and Lynn Saxton (Los Alamos National Laboratory).
I asked Mr. Campello when Hitachi would be bringing an FDE hard drive to the market...."2nd quarter" Without even asking him...he said that they were working with Wave and Secude software companies....FWIW
Sincerely,
Jas
Wavxmaster...re pr...I would love to see some mention of the VA debaucle and how that lost laptop would have been irrelevant had it been equipped with this new Seagate hard drive.
Sincerely,
Jas
Re Computerworld article....Does anyone else find it interesting that the FIRST person quoted in the article about Seagate's NEWEST product is Lark Allen???
Sincerely,
Jas
Thanks for the heads up...

re 60 minutes...for those of us on the other coast...could you tell us what the segment was about?

re the article....It's probably the best we could have hoped for comming from Danny. Although there were a few comments from Wavoids that make us look like a bunch of investing neophytes...there were comments from a couple of heavy hitters that should open up a few eyes. Hopefully this will add to the degree of institutional ownership we have seen over the past few months.
Sincerely,
Jas
Good morning Awk,
ALthough I admire your knowledge about the technology a great deal....I will have to agree with CM regarding Danny. I find his timing of this article to be interesting to say the least.(A few weeks from the offical launch of what could be the MOST IMPORTANT product launch of 2007...Seagates FDE drive) We all had dinner together after the last SHM and Danny was invited. I had a bad taste when I met him back in ~1999 and that had not changed by 2006. His knowledge about the company and its role in froming the TCG was pathetic to say the least. These were my opinions of Danny last summer...and based on the podcast...my opinions have not changed. Having said all this....let me make a few additional observations.
1) The article will bring our company's name to the forefront of one of the nations most important newspapers. What is that saying on the street...."PAST PERFORMANCE IS NO GUARANTEE OF THE FUTURE..." or something like that.
2) If the article does infact talk a little about the area that the company is involved in as well as the other MAJOR companies it has relationships with....people may actually BUY our shares thinking that we are truly on the spear head of a revolution(pc/Laptop SECURITY) whose time has come.
3) Share price....I seriously doubt this article will have a negative impact on our shareprice from this time forward. I think that this article had some negative impact on the share price over the past week.....but I doubt it will have any further negative impact.
4) In the end....the WAVOIDS will be vindicated....IMHO
Sincerely,
Jas
xxx...thanks for posting another reminder of how much these security analysts need to be educated on the topic of Trusted Computing and the TCG.

Weby...re hardware vs software FDE....You're absolutely correct!.....One of the intersting aspects of the recent debate has been the building consensus that hardware based FDE are far superior to sofware FDEs...at least that is my take on the debate. Given the fact that the DOD is very interested in TPMs....HARDWARE...it seems logical that they would proceed with hardware based FDE It will be interesting to say the least how this unfolds.
Sincerely,
Jas
Re Seagate Data Protection Summit taking place in March is an interesting meeting to say the least. There is a file available at their website http://www.dataprotectionsummit.com that has the following comment..."To address the issue of data leaks from stolen or missing lap tops the US government is planning to use FDE on all government owned computers." This statement is located on Page 6 of the above mentioned file...FWIW
Sincerely,
Jas
Geez BNE...You have ANY idea why we're 16 cents HIGHER than we were on friday??? Curious minds want to know...... yeagh right!
Sincerely or not,
Jas
Good evening Weby,
Re Seagate....He also said something like Seagate will be making a great deal of noise regarding their upcoming release and that Wave will be part of that(noise). I've got to go back and listen to that portion again...but I think that's what he mentioned.
Sincererly,
Jas
Jazz....re Seagate...In his very first remarks about revenue ramp...he said something like...our customers include Dell Intel/SEAGATE/ Gateway/ ST micro etc...
FWIW....
Sincerely,
Jas
KeV...you do realize that the company was "authorized" to issue up to 150 million shares prior to the RS but STILL was required to seek approval for the shelf. This occured eventhough th total number of outstanding shares was less than the authorized number....If I'm wrong...I'm willing to stand corrected.
Sincerely,
Jas
re selling 50K
Don't you find it strange that anyone would place a sell order near the 200 day moving average? That's where I would have placed a BUY order...oh well...I guess I've got a lot to learn
Sincerely,
Jas
re price action....It's amazing that some people still don't understand charts. A few days ago...we crossed under the 50 day moving average and are currently testing the 100 day moving average. Given the very low volumes prior to a few days ago it was very easy for someone to drive the price through the 50 day moving average....fwiw
Sincerely,
Jas
Maynard...re institutional ownership
Although Waves shares owned by institutions may not be as high as the list you compiled....the important point is what the TREND has been over the past few quarters. We have always said that PRIOR to Wave taking off....we would see an increase in Institutional ownership. I believe that over the next few quarters...we will CONTINUE to see the trend of Institutional ownership increasing...IMHO
Sincerely,
Jas
Vader....You've just asked THE question. Look at the reasons why RSA was purchased....now re-read the last transcript and remind yourself that RSA was purchased for over 2 billion dollars and we have a market cap of slightly north of 100 million dollars.
Sincerely,
Jas
Good evening everyone,
I haven't been paying a great deal of attention the last few weeks regarding the posts on I-hub...work seems to have gotten in the way Anyhow...I'm sure that someone has pointed this out...but WE ALL NEED TO READ THE LAST ANSWER THAT SKS POROVIDED IN THE POST I'M REPLYING TO.....FWIW
Sincerely,
Jas
Barge....re Apple...You may want to listen to a recent speach given by Jobs. A friend of mine at work told me that there is an interesting mention in his speech. (I have not personally had a chance to listen...it's about 1.5 hours in length)
The speech is available on Apples web site.

Sincerely,
Jas
CM...NO!!!! Don't say that 2007 will ONLY generate TRIVIAL revenues from the consumer segment. I think I want a second opinion....hummm....I wonder what SKS has said about the consumer segments contribution to our BOTTOM line in 2007? )))) 2008/2009...the CONSUMER segment will begin to get interesting...IMNSHO I'm not saying that there will not be interesting developments with WaveXpress this year....just the amount of revenues generated will be trivial in relation to the total revenues generated by Wave Systems Enterprise sales.
Sincerely,
Jas
Yukon....Thanks for taking the time and sharing your DD! It's greatly appreciated by the wavoid community.
Sincerely,
Jas
Vader...
re potential announcements...Has Seagate announced the oficial release of their FDE drive yet? No..If and when they do release their product and we have NOT heard from Wave..then one can start to raise an eyerow...until that time...what ifs are a non-starter. To even suggest that there maybe a problem is nuts to put it mildly.
re revenues...Wave has generated ~50% quarter over quarter growth in lic. revenues from OEMs 2 vs 3 quarter. There is no reason to believe that type of growth did not happen during Q4. The more important point to concentrate on will be the number of upgrades. My guess is between 4-8k seat upgrades during Q4. We need to see how Q1 compares to Q4/06 regarding seat upgrades. Given all that we have read...there is no reason to believe that we will not see this trend continue imho.
I guess I don't understand what your friends are talking about...especially if they have been invested in Wave for as long as you hinted at.
Sincerely,
Jas
Gokite....re Cramer....He's a BIG fan of Seagate at this moment in time. Hopefully he'll pick up on some of the Seagate/Wave news and begin to etrapolate the significance of Wave systems to the trusted computing revolution.
Sincerely,
Jas
Barge....NICE DD!!
Sincerely,
Jas
Good God almighty....some of you guys have gone over the deep end. AWK is an awsome figure in the Wavoid community...but he is a MAN. I'm sure he gets frustrated like the rest of us...it's called being HUMAN. Is he GOD?....ofcourse not....not that he ever claimed to be anything but a long who is a master at DD. The rest of you folks need to get a reality check. The company has NEVER been in a better position...and you guys are reacting like the sky is falling....truly PATHETIC!
Sincerely,
Jas
PS...Goin fishin...this post was not directed towards you in particular...FWIW
Go kite....Great post! I don't know what it's going to take to convince the don quijotes of the world that the most SIGNIFICANT source of revenues will be the Enterprise/Govt. sector in 2007. Thanks for posting.
Sincerely,
Jas
Plympton...(G ) Glad to see you again....Hopefully this long ride will have a nice finish for us all
Sincerely,
Jas
Vader...re todays action...I think there is a very good chance that what we saw today was nothing more than technical trading. Prior to making the move past 2.40..there were a ton of shares being offered up...thus providing us with resistance point. When we broke through on the way up to 3+...the 2.40 became the support point. This was borne out today. IMHO....Yes...I did have a purchase today in that range
Sincerely,
Jas
Ramsey....If there is no TPM on the laptop/desktop....does an FDE drive from Seagate require Waves software which helps provides the CHAIN of COMMUNICATION between the drive and the TPM on the machine? For some stupid reason...I would think that Seagate would be able to get a premium price for the FDE drives from the Enterprise/Gov. sector than from the consumer space. Eventually, this technology will find its way THROUGHOUT their product lines...but not in 2007. Consumer market starts to take off in the 2008/2009 timeframe...IMHO.
Sincerely,
Jas
Nick...re BE...It is truly amazing how this comment is being taken out of context. SKS said that Wave needed ~2 million in upgrades to reach BE by Q2/2007. He told a Wave investor after the call that BE could be achieved via Lic. revenues only by Q3/2007. He thought it was VERY realistic to think that Wave would have a BE quarter by Q2/2007. Furthermore, REMs info indicates that the reason why BE wont be achieved by Q2 ONLY by Lic. revenues is that the BURN rate is increasing in an attempt to increase Enterprise sales.
Sincerely,
Jas
ZZ...Not to be rude....but ...WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?? Where is the competition?? What exactly does Venafi do that convinces you that they present a potential threat to Wave?
Sincerely,
Jas
Matt...I don't know what the other individuals are saying...but as I recall...SKS's figure of 50 million was a number of units to be sold over a THREE year period. The figure of 30 million is for a period that does NOT cover the three year time frame that SKS had refrenced in the past. Personally, I believe that we will SURPASS that figure by a large amount. FWIW
Sincerely,
Jas
Good morning Snackman,
I honestly believe that a great deal of the emotions that are being demonstrated on this thread are a direct concequence of the BE quarter comment. Throughout Waves history, we as investors have experienced very few milestones that were supposedly set in concrete. Our history has been littered with events that appeared out of our control. The BE quarter being the 2nd quarter on Lic. revenues alone appeared to be one such rare event....Something that we could count on. When even that milestone seemed to become fluid....disappointment set in big time. Having said this...I have to come down on the side of those who believe that the company has NEVER been in a better position.
1) I think that the revenue number from Q3 did not match OUR expectations because we as a group had NOT counted on the 2005 cycle to still be selling. Infact...ONLY the last half of Q4 will have ONLY tpm1.2s for their Lattitude models.
2) Regarding Enterprise upgrades....SKS has REPEATEDLY said that he did not expect Enterprise upgrades to kick in until 2007. He had hoped they would kick in earlier....but always gave us 2007 as the time period in which this would happen.
3) Q4...SKS has ALREADY told us that they have ALREADY closed a couple hundred thousand dollars of upgrades during Q4. He anticipates this figure to go into the 7 figures by Q1. FOLKS.....NO MATTER HOW ONE LOOKS AT IT...THIS IS A HECK OF A STEEP GROWTH CURVE.
Sincerely,
Jas
Ambler...What can I say? You've raised some very good questions. I know that I, at least, can't argue with some of your contentions. All I can say is that the market that Wave has fought so hard for over these years is finally materializing. Is it happening as quickly as we would like...of course not....but it is happening. There are a few nagging questions that the CC left me with that you have covered. The current state of Wave as I see it would include:
1) TPMs are on their way to becomming THE standard in both enterprise and eventually in the consumer arenas.
2) The potential market size is NORTH of 200 million units/year.
3) The FDE drives are the FIRST alternate platform to take advantage of the existing TPM....there will be others. For each device that communicates with a TPM further expands the potential market size Wave is going after.
4) One million FDEs....Does anyone really believe those numbers that SKS mentioned during the recent CC regarding the number of FDE drives coming into the market in 2007? Seagate produces north of 100 million disk drives/year. Hitachi has already said that they intend to incorporate this technology across all of their lines starting in 2007. For some reason...I just can't buy into that one million figure....something just not kosher about that figure...IMHO
5) Enterprise sale upgrades....According to SKS...they have ALREADY closed on a couple hundred thousand dollars worth of upgrades this quarter. Last quarter...we had essentially nothing. If his numbers are to believed...he is talking about tens of thousands of upgrades in Q1....for each 5000 upgrades corresponds to roughly $250,000 to our top line. That is a relatively steep rate of growth...wouldn't you say?
6) The number of seats the company is now going after has gone from ~200k in Q2 to over 400k by the end of Q3/mid Q4. Therefore...the potential pipeline of upgrades is INCREASING with time.
7) All of what I have posted above is only my opinion and may simply be no more than pie in the sky dreaming on my behalf. What no one can argue with is that some rather significant companies have recently been including Wave in their PRs or their websites....WITHOUT WAVE JUMPING IN ON THE ACTION AND THROWING OUT A SIMILAR PR FROM THEIR PERSPECTIVE. What does this mean????? STMicro recently put out a pr talking about their modifications to the manufacturing of the TPMs....why did they mention Wave?? Most of the new enterprise/govt. materials being sent out by Dell now go out of their way to mention Wave??? WHY??? When Dell has their meetings around the country or around the World...they take Wave along with them to meet their clients. WHY??? Credant which has done a great deal of business with Dell realting to the enterprise/government arena has a rather glowing description of Wave on their Web site...WHY??? Does anyone here remember Wave giving us a Credant/Wave PR on this relationship??? Why not???
These points don't negate your very important points....We as a community of investors should keep your comments and points in our minds at all times....because they are important...
Sincerely,
Jas
Helpful...I think you're 100% correct. It's amazing the vermon that will crawl out of the wood works these days. BTW...nice re-cap on the cc.
Sincerely,
Jas
