Disney Is Looking To Buy Even More Stables Of Characters
Kim Bhasin | Aug. 10, 2011, 2:26 PM | 47 |
Disney has made a couple huge acquisitions in the past few years under CEO Robert Iger's watch, headlined by the gigantic $8 billion deal for Pixar in 2006 and the $4 billion purchase of Marvel Entertainment in 2009.
But Iger isn't done yet. He announced on a conference call Tuesday that although he feels Disney's character lineup is unparalleled, he's still looking to "buy either new characters or businesses that are capable of creating great characters and great stories."
Disney has a few things to consider if it's going to make yet another move for already-developed characters. Pixar's characters were consistent with Disney's existing contingent when it was acquired, but consistency in branding was a big talking point for the Marvel acquisition. How would testosterone-fueled characters like The Hulk get along with the Disney princesses and that cute little mouse?
In this case, it went quite well because of how they were marketed, and Iger had even characterized the deal as "perfect." The Marvel acquisition gave Disney a broader appeal, and it benefitted in areas like video games. It kept its more adult content branded as Marvel, and occasionally meshed the two together.
So what's this next strategic move going to be for Disney? Iger hinted that he's not looking to fill any specific holes and didn't cite any specific targets. The Marvel move showed that he's willing to take risks with his brand, so it should be interesting to see which direction Disney goes with its next acquisition. Will it take a shot at a giant like DreamWorks again to try to make a big splash? Or go for a smaller, out-of-nowhere deal for a company like Dark Horse?

I find interesting that you find it hilarious that Evans in a Dodge Sponsored segment Broadcasted by Yahoo Sports on about general training and general sports nutrition and that no other products or company's that also sponsor Evans were also not mentioned but I find it hilarious that you think Muscle Pharm should have paid Dodge, Yahoo Sports and Evans extra to do so! I'm sure Dodge, Yahoo Sports and Evans would have all have appreciated it!
Glad we are all the same page and that you also think Muscle Pharm should be Paying and Sponsoring more! LOL!

Agree all the way! Nobody wants to buy an unknown product from a nobody company!
You have to get your name out there and Promote your Brand and Proudcts through Promotion! A great start is getting your name on people who other people like, respect and in many cases just want to be or atleast be like in some way. The other things include getting your Brand on things people know, like and want which also include the actual Products and often through other things they know or can associate with.
Muscle Pharm appears to be doing just that! Keep it UP!
I like many Invest in things for the Long Term, pro-rated to the greater potential amount of money I can make the longer I am willing to wait. We are all in control of our plays, good & bad and I highly dislike people who believe their needs and more so wants out-weights the greater good for the company and everyone else.
All I do know is the more people who know a product, the more likelihood they will buy it and with that the greater potential the value of the product and company will go UP! Along with the Stock!
Some of the best companys and products in history have never been seen by anyone and never will because nobody knows who and what they are!
To be known as a Sports Product company, you must Invest in the Sports, People and Things in those sports to get the attention of the buying public in those sports and sell anything. I think Muscle Pharm is doing a pretty good job of doing that and that I believe will pay big in the long term! IMO!
Go MSLP!
I have seen that one as well and most of it has been played out throughout the day but some good stuff either way.
Here is my take based on T Jay comments and other information. I think Pro have other deals in the works as well as he is concerned about "potentially damaging to future negotiations with the broadcast networks they do happen to be trying to get television deals with." I believe as many others have also previously thought he was looking to get Pro on TV potentially this year and that would make perfect sense.
When T Jay "Was asked if there were any active negotiations on the table with the CBS/Showtime team, he said “nothing at all for the very near future.”. We know this would be a larger discussion and longer negotiation as the current Deal with UFC/Strikeforce ends early in 2012. That doesn't mean there are none just nothing in the very near future and I would bet he plans on playing all the Networks against each other for the best Deal and best place to be! Great Move!!!
And picking KANOA LEAHEY - KHON2 Sports Director, Anchor/Reporter as the second man in the booth along side MMA legend, Jens Pulver, doing the color commentary for the Hawaii show! Great move in my opinion as this appears to be the big TV Station in Hawaii and he definitely appears to be a player there so great choice.

What Pro Elite has in store for us this year
Submitted by fightlinker on August 9, 2011 - 4:54pm
Little did Kendall know his ProElite contract had a small provision tucked into it that allowed them to set his hands on fire for promotional purposes.
It's been a busy month for resurrected promotion ProElite en route to their genesis show on August 27th. There's been a bunch of stories floating around regarding their future so MMA Fighting took some time to interview apparent promotion head honcho T Jay Thompson on what's really going down:
* Thompson vehemently denied a Cage Potato report that the organization was close to signing a TV deal with Viacom to broadcast its events on CBS and Showtime in the near future.
"There is absolutely no truth to the report that we are close to a deal with CBS and Showtime," he said.
Thompson said they are talking to "everyone" in the TV world but stopped short at saying who was the frontrunner. The organization's Aug. 27 show will stream live on Sherdog.com, but Thompson hopes he will have a TV deal in place by the promotion's second show.
* Speaking of its second show, Thompson said "early November" in Atlantic City, N.J., is when ProElite's sophomore event will take place. No specific date or location has been finalized yet.
* One of the main attractions scheduled for the event will be the start of a heavyweight grand prix. But before you roll your eyes at the idea of another heavyweight GP, Thompson says this one will feature mostly "unknown" big men from around the world. Andrei Arlovski and Mark Ellis, who are scheduled to fight in different bouts in Hawaii, could be a part of it if they win their debut fights.
Lest you be uninterested in their Heavyweight Grand Prix, let ProElite reassure you that it will be full of unknowns! And maybe Andre Arlovski if he can get past 5-2 light heavyweight Ray Lopez. Okay, okay, we get what they're probably trying to say: the tournament will feature a bunch of heavyweights prospects - the Grand Prix of tomorrow! If this thing happens and we find the next generation of Eastern European killers that were never discovered after PRIDE's death, I will be very happy indeed.
What a change the world of MMA has gone through over the past five years. Back in the day, you'd snort and roll your eyes every time you heard a non-UFC promoter talking about the possibility of a TV deal. Now TJ Thompson can not only be taken seriously when he says he hopes to have a deal in place by show numero 2 , but he has to deny a mega-deal is already in place. And some MMA sites won't believe the denial!
After the jump, the ProElite promo video for their upcoming show, which is where we got Kendal Flame Fist Grove from.
ProElite Pursuing Veteran Manager and Promoter Monte Cox as Consultant
By Ariel Helwani
Video Reporter and Writer
001
Veteran MMA manager and promoter Monte Cox is in talks with ProElite to become a consultant for the upstart organization.
Both ProElite's Vice President of Operations T. Jay Thompson and Cox confirmed with MMA Fighting that talks are ongoing but no deal has been struck just yet.
"I'm excited about the prospect of working with T. Jay and ProElite," Cox wrote via text message. "We've been friends for a long, long time and think we work well together. It would be fun to get in on the ground floor and help build something."
Cox has managed some of the biggest names in MMA, including Rich Franklin and Tim Sylvia. He entered the sport in 1995 and has also promoted close to 600 local shows.
The role being offered to Cox is simply that of a consultant. Should he accept, he would not have to quit his manager or promoter jobs and would not be involved in ProElite's matchmaking process.
"Monte and I have worked together on many projects through the years," Thompson said. "I would love to have him on board. He would be an incredible asset to the company
"He'll be in Hawaii for the ProElite show and maybe after taking his money on the golf course, if he's not too grumpy, we'll come to an agreement."
Cox was famously named CEO of M-1 Global in 2007 but left the organization in 2008.
ProElite: Arlovski vs. Lopez is scheduled for Aug. 27 in Hawaii.

Not at all in my view! The current Reviews provided are not by the site they are provided as USER(s)scoring of the Product!
Actually thousands of Users at this point and averaged to provide the Score shown!
It would also be like saying that Gary Bettman Commissioner of the NHL( National Hockey League ) being born and raised in New York and that New York now has some sort of advantage over the rest of NHL. Well the New York Rangers finished 18th overall and the New York Islanders finished 27th out of 30 Teams, so I would say that doesn't appear to be so. Maybe Gary's been to, eaten and stayed in Vancouver, Washington and Boston and that is why Vancouver and Washington finished Number 1 and 2 and why Boston( Who finished 7th overall in the regular season ) Won the Cup. I think not!
I think the association means nothing other than he has a good understanding of the products and very good understanding of the Industry.
Jeremy sounds like the kind of guy you definitely want on your team for a variety of reasons including knowing the Industry.

I agree with you as well! People are sick of them and most who even do even like them in any way do so only to some degree and have more of a "Love" the Sport and its participants and not the company by any measure!
There is a growing heavy public dislike of Dana who has attempted to make the company and even more so himself whom he looks at in his own view which is as the egotistical maniac as he is as the company as being bigger than the sport, industry and all it's actual players and participants.
Big mistake as the industry, participants and fans must be respected and he really respects none of them.
He has outgrown any value he might have had and continues to hinder further growth even in his own company( which he did not create ), in a sport that existed long before him and in an industry that will exist long after!
Go ProElite!
I am with you there for sure! I think everybody really really wants us to Win! Lots of News, Industry and Fan Support everywhere!
There is big change in Winds! ProElite is the right company, in the right place at the right time doing all the right things! Winning combination! IMO it is going to happen! It is only matter of time and that time is very near! IMO.
Go ProElite!
Reference Articles to the original also being show on the UG, MMANews and others, everybody is saying the same thing.
As taken from one of them: "Thompson said there is “no imminent deal” with Showtime/CBS, he didn’t say there was “no deal” with Showtime/CBS leaving us to speculate that both could very well be in some level of talks to bring ProElite to the airwaves for next year."
Which we all knew and had been said by T Jay himself that the intent was to get ProElite a Broadcast Deal very soon and I am sure they are in touch with everyone but one deal makes an awful lot of sense for alot of reasons.
I am sure at this point we can probably all agree a final Deal is not done by T Jay's own word and would expect he will go publicly to state that because a Deal is not a Deal until it's done, but in my opinion we we will hear something in the very near future on some sort of a Deal with someone.
Go ProElite!
Very interesting! And not surprising at all as I had previously stated Cage Potato is pretty reliable source. I personally don't belive they would release that information unless there was some basis for the story.
Either way we know Pro is and was very close to a TV and Broadcast Deal that they figured would be in place by the Second Show, which was previously stated by T Jay himself! Hmmm...!
Go ProElite!
I thought exactly that as well!
Go ProElite!
Very true! It does put added pressure on both sides when this type of thing happens and to be honest as much I would want to know I would rather have heard the official word! When that happens then watch things explode!
ProElite has been very sure footed in it's Launch to date keeping everything very hush hush until it's official! And it has been T Jay himself releasing the Official Word on behalf of the company.
He is probably not happy about something like this happening either way.
I'm sure this is not good for whatever relationship is left between Strikeforce and CBS/ShowTime!
Go ProElite!
Cage Potato is a pretty reliable source most of the time and not discounting what T Jay said at all, but I think that just means a Deal is not complete! I would imagine negotiations of this kind are a huge undertaking and until a Deal is complete Pro will want to keep their options open! I'm sure the only things we will hear from him will be Official and nothing less!
Go ProElite!
That makes sense as they just completed at 2 year Deal with Fox in Latin America which has already closed. You can bet any deal done will likely be the just the stuff they are airing already on Spike and maybe whatever is left of Strikeforce, which won't be much.
No Future Likely for UFC and Strikeforce on CBS and Showtime, ProElite Close to Deal
Many MMA fans have taken Zuffa's repetition of Strikeforce being "business as usual" since the purchase to mean "just a matter of time." There has been much speculation that Strikeforce would be shut down in 2012 when their deal with Showtime and CBS comes to a close. Cage Potato is now reporting that the resurrected ProElite is close to signing a deal with the networks which should represent the final nail in Strikeforce's coffin:
Sources close to the promotion that was recently brought back from the verge of death by Stratus Media Group, who acquired a 95 percent ownership stake of the company in June, have informed CagePotato.com that ProElite is in the final stages of negotiations for a multi-year television deal with Viacom that will see its events broadcast on both Showtime and CBS starting in the first quarter of 2012.
Viacom owns 20 percent, or approximately 11,991,172 of the 59,955,862 outstanding shares of ProElite (PELE) which are currently trading at 48 cents each after sitting at a penny for the past three years since EliteXC folded. At the height of EliteXC's popularity, the ProElite's shares routinely traded at $15. A resurgence of the company aided by a deal with Viacom, would mean that for every dollar they can raise the stock purchase price by, the media conglomerate could stand to earn close to $12 million U.S.
Zuffa isn't likely to give up air time in any of their deals to put Strikeforce on TV, and they're not going to look for new deals for the smaller promotion when they're still trying to better the UFC's broadcast situation. One can only assume that Strikeforce is going to make it through 2011 and that will be it.
But today is the day to be upset that you didn't buy a ton of $0.01 shares of ProElite as the shares are going to see yet another huge bump after the deal is completed and officially announced.

ProElite On the Verge of a New Broadcast Deal With CBS and Showtime
(It will be interesting to see how Viacom’s vested interest in the company will translate into its promotion of ProElite)
It looks like the proclamation UFC president Dana White made a few months ago that CBS will likely go head-to-head with his promotion again in the near future was right on the money.
At the height of EliteXC’s popularity, the ProElite’s shares routinely traded at $15. A resurgence of the company aided by a deal with Viacom, would mean that for every dollar they can raise the stock purchase price by, the media conglomerate could stand to earn close to $12 million U.S.
In September 2008 Showtime Networks filed a public notice with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) that stated their intention to enter into discussions to purchase ProElite to try to save the company from bankruptcy, but the deal never came to fruition. The company’s CEO at the time, Chuck Champion instead chose to sell off select limited assets, including fighter contracts and its extensive video catalogue to Strikeforce in an effort to bring the books back into the black, which he did with the transaction. Since then, the company, whose other assets include major stakes in the UK’s Cage Rage and Korea’s SpiritMC promotions, remained dormant until the Stratus Media acquisition brought it back from the ashes.
Showtime’s current deals with Strikeforce and M-1 will soon be over, effectively clearing the way for ProElite’s shows to be broadcast on its networks, which will in turn mean bigger name fighters signing with the promotion whose roster includes former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski, The Ultimate Fighter season 3 winner Kendall Grove and UFC veteran Joe Riggs.
M-1 has two events remaining on its current deal and it is rumored that it will feature recently released Strikeforce heavyweight and former PRIDE champion Fedor Emelianenko on at least one of them. Strikeforce’s three-year contract expires in February 2012, but according to a source we spoke to, it could end sooner if Showtime deems the quality of events the UFC sister promotion is putting on is less than expected.
ProElite 2.0's first event under its new ownership and the leadership of former ICON Sport T. Jay Thompson and Strikeforce matchmaker Richard Chou will take place August 27 at the Blaisdell Arena in Waikiki, Hawaii. Although Thompson has stated that the promotion is not looking to compete with the UFC, the deal with CBS and Showtime will position ProElite to do just that in the near future.
We will have more on the situation as it develops.
http://www.cagepotato.com/exclusive-proelite-on-the-verge-of-a-new-deal-with-cbs-and-showtime/
Are you kidding? Muscle Pharm was everywhere including on the Star of the Main Event Rashad Evans during his big Win at the most recent UFC Event as well as during the weight-in's and I am not aware of any such agreements with Strikeforce.
The UFC is planning on shutting Strikeforce down as we know it and/or turning into a heavily scaled down tier2 Event!
So why would Muscle Pharm be there unless it has a Fighter it Sponsors there as well. Then maybe we will see them, otherwise does anybody really believe that the UFC is going to let one of it's prime sponsor go to it's second class Event! I'm not thinking so and can't blame for them for that if that the case!
Extended Promo - ProElite Hawaii August 27th - Arlovski, Grove, Penn
I think Brock is more than highly over rated and nobody who should have ever been considered for a Title Shot no matter the situation.
I would argue that they were lots of other Fights that should have been considered including maybe giving Randy an appropriate come back fight with somebody who eared their way there and Brock had not!
When Brock fought Frank Mir, Mir had lost 2 of his 4 previous fights so could well be considered as not at the top of his game by any measure.
When Brock fought Randy, again Randy had not fought in almost a year and half!
When Randy fought Tim Silvia, Randy would have been almost 2 year younger at the time which is huge at that age.
Tim Syliva is 1 year and 3 months older than Brock, making it a significant 3 year difference age for the better for Randy at the time.
Much less again fighting at the top level every year especially at 40 and beyond is substantial to say the least so Randy being 2 years older would be like 4 years for fighter 1 year at 30.
So in my view there is really no comparison.
I would consider Brock winning 66% of fights in the UFC poor to very poor and yes maybe even extremely poor and to be still be considered as part the "Best fighters In World" as Dana had said in no way accurate.
Generally would have no issue with his record if not for that and the significate "Hype".
Brock beat a poorly conditioned poor cardio Shane Carwin, who was also destroying Brock unitl he ran out of steam!
The minute Brock came across in shape capable Fighter in the likes of Cain Velasquez also in his prime he was devastated without question.
I think pictures speak for themselves!
Brock Lesnar is afraid of getting hit for "Real" and not a top level fighter by any means with grappling skill whatsoever.
He would fair no better against likes many other including Junior dos Santos, an in shape Shane Carwin along with others.
Agree entirely! ProElite is big on Big D’s little brain! LOL!
Let's talk about the UFC and specifically Dana White's record in as he says how the UFC operates "What do you do is you put the best fighters in the world against the best fighters in the world" and he interestingly enough he points out the many questions people had about Brock Lesnar so let’s talk about Brock, the UFC and the Best Fighters in the world as well as some of the fighters he mentions specifically.
Dana White “Let’s talk about Brock Lesnar, okay? The guy comes in with one fight… then he fights Frank Mir, former world champion Frank Mir. He fights Heath Herring, he fights Randy Couture, he fights Cain Velasquez. I mean, look at the guys that he’s fought in his short career. And people want to, you know, talk shit about Brock and laugh. At least Brock has fought real guys and came in and fought the best in the world.”
Brock came into the UFC as an MMA fighter with only 1 fight under his belt and fought a former UFC Champion in Frank Mir only to lose 1:30 of the first round.
In his second fight Brock fights Heath Herring although a colorful character and capable fighter is considered a mid-level fighter with his previous 4 fights in and with UFC all going to decision and the Record of the time of 2 Wins and 2 Losses in the UFC at that point.
In Brock’s third MMA fight he is given a Title Shot with a 3 - 1 Record!
Did Dana consider Brock “The Best in the world”.
But don’t think that Dana did not put any thought into this fight, lets take a “Professional WWE Wrestler” for market value and bring in somebody who hasn’t’ fought in the last year and half and make it the Main Event.
So at the age of 31 the 280 lb Lesnar fought and an aging 46 year old, very light 205Lb Randy Couture who had not fought for the last year and half as well as only had a total of 3 fights since 2006 going into the fight!
Aside from the great 15 year age difference Brock had an immense speed and size advantage over Randy with size alone somewhere in about 50lb and probably closer to 65lbs separating them at fight time.
So you can bet Dana knew this was Win Win for the UFC, with a fight that Brock could Win!
If and when he Win's use Brock’s popularity from the WWE to hype that and future Events within the UFC as well as destroy Randy Couture’s value realizing that Randy had been in a Contract dispute just previous hence why he was unable fight for the year and half previous. This would also give the UFC a distinct advantage at Contract negation time with Randy and the buying public.
In his last fight with Cain Velasquez, Brock was easily dispensed and destroyed at 4:12 mark of the 1st Round.
Brock had taken down Velasquez twice with only one even making to the mat and both easily defended and Brock spent rest being the largest portion of the fight literally running from Velasquez with other attempts to rolling away from him while being attacked.
As for his work ( My guess he was giving lessons in Break Dancing! LOL! ) Brock earned top dollar from Dana for that embarrassing fiasco with a $ 450,000 paycheck translating into $ 107,042 per minute or $ 1,765.71 per second for losing on a World Wide PPV Main Event Card under the UFC and he has not fought since.
Brock's record in total now sits at very poor 5 - 2 in MMA and in the UFC alone sits at extremely poor 4 - 2 by my math! Brock lost a fight for every 2 fights he won in UFC. But way to go Dana in putting the best fighters in the world against the best fighters in the world.
As for Dana’s other Comment on booking Fedor: “It’s like having your promotion carried by Kimbo Slice”.
We all know where he was going with this comment but interesting enough I have one comment for Dana!
No it’s actually like have Kimbo Slice booked to carry the UFC’s Ultimate Fighter Season 10 “largely built around the internet sensation Kimbo Slice.” after you said the guy can’t fight, having him bring in the Highest Ratings in the History of the Show.
These Ratings were over twice of that of 8 of the 9 previous seasons and over 150% of the next highest season being Season 3 that happened to be 7 seasons before.
It also interesting to note that it is almost twice any Season since that one including the one with Brock Lesnar who’s Season 13 was tied or beat by no less than 7 other Seasons including Kimbo’s Season 10.
Let talk about Dana’s another comment and clam which I have heard him make numerous times that as Dana’s says “The guys like I always said that fight in this organization and fight the best in the world three times a year, deserve those accolades”
I have heard him talk about Anderson Silva as his prime example and so lets talk about the facts.
Anderson Silva has fought a total 5 times in 3 years with only 1 fight in 2011 so far, only 2 fights in each of the years 2009 and 2010.
So much for fighting 3 times a year!
It’s also a good way to ensure your Champion stays Champion!
Anderson would have to fight 4 more times this year alone just to meet Dana’s claim and defend the Championship in all of those 4 remaining bouts or you can do what Dana does and just not have him fight. He will go on to say how many years Anderson has fought in the UFC and not lost but I wonder why?
Great talk by Dana but he can he back any of it up! I think not as it is what its and just that just talk.
But people are getting tired of it.
It’s all good though for ProElite! I think the public is looking for an experienced Promotion with New look and a great history overall to come to the table and I am sure they will find what they are looking for very soon if they have not already with a start time for the general public being Aug 27 / 2011 in Hawaii!
