Although the new administration has said only the rich will have
their taxes raised, they have talked about elimination of the
stepped up basis. Technically, this would not "raise" taxes,
but you know what it would do to the detriment of your inheritable
assets........
no
This is misinformation.
First...an irrevocable trust is a trust that cannot be changed.
There are very few instances where you would use this type of
trust.
When you create a trust and put assets into the trust, you no
longer own the assets.....they are owned by the trust (you
still control the assets and can buy them or sell them) but
basically you have transformed the nature of your assets.
It is sort of like you have created a company for which you
are the CEO. Like any "company" you also name your replacement
(Successor-Trustees) or the person/persons who will be responsible
for continuing managing the assets or distributing the assets
after you pass.
Current law says that you can keep assets in a trust for 21 years after death without distribution to heirs (handy if there is a family lawsuit
or a disgruntled spouse).....many things are possible.
Because life and laws are ever changing, 99% of trusts are revocable
and thus can be changed......

Thanks for all of your great info on this board. You are a positive
and helpful voice!
I am an estate planner and financial/investment person.
There seems to be a lot of uncertainty on this board about "Trusts".
There are many kinds of trusts which (when used properly), they
can achieve many positive things. One of the points I was making
when I posted on the subject was that the new administration has
commented that it is considering making HUGE changes to existing
laws which govern trusts. I don't know what that means. It
might lead to something or it might lead to nothing. We will
see.
There are two main reasons for a person to have a trust.
A trust (which also contains a will and last testament) is a
private document which is not subject to review by the courts....
it means your assets are private, not disclosed to the public
after death and the recipients/heirs receive their "gifts"
tax free without anyone publicly knowing the details.
The second reason is tax avoidance. There are many taxes in life.
State and federal governments change/add/take away laws each
year.....who knows what the laws will be when our time comes?
For the above reasons and many more, suffice to say, financial
planning and estate planning is a very personal matter. What
works for one individual does not work for another.
The positive for the current issue is that he appears to be a
person who plans and looks ahead......that's something!
Putting securities into a trust does not
trigger any tax. You do not escape capital gains tax.
Capital gains are realized when you sell. There is no
gift tax when you put securities into a trust. When
you are estate planning and attempting to avoid taxes
you will "fund" a trust in hopes of avoiding "Estate
Taxes".....the new administration is talking about
renewing the Federal Estate Tax, which once was 55%
at death and occurred on estates in excess of
$600,000.00........
This could be an anticipatory move...!
Can you imagine the reaction to a headline:
"A Cure for Cancer?"
And then there is this......We are constantly deluged by the
never ending negative possibilities conjured up by the usual
suspects on this board. But what would management be doing
if the results are nothing short of astonishing?
Would they rush to press?
Or would they confirm every possible detail?
Would they spend a lot of time considering the ramifications?
How would huge results affect other current treatments and BP's?
Just a little reminder.....we don't know what's going on,
that doesn't mean what's going on is bad.

Don't be talking about checking out!
Get well soon.
If the only other option is lottery tickets......

There is another reason why people risk more than
they should....and also is the reason why they
don't get out unscathed when they can.
It is because they have little or no hope that they
will ever be successful unless a "miracle" happens.
They see no hope of achieving their dreams unless
they can do something that will change the life
they see ahead.......
Sometimes HOPE gets you through hard times!
Let's HOPE the day comes when we don't have to
hope anymore!

It IS getting a little tiresome to go to this message board
each day and not see any real information on NWBO. And so,
I guess it is only natural that people will indulge in "what
if?" discussion.
Currently I believe the people who have been nursing NWBO along
for "the best years of their lives" have reached a point where
their hopes for NWBO have come true. In fact, I would not be
surprised if the results have left them nearly speechless.
What would YOU do if you realized you were in control of a vaccine
that could "change the world"......? You might take your time
to make sure you "Get it Right"....?
But,..........I am engaging in "what if?" rambling.....

Welcome to the NWBO board and thanks for your warnings
For twenty-five years I have been a licensed stock broker
I always chide myself for the moment in time when I should
have taken a chance but did not......but it was a company
that did not look very solid financially. It had a product that
was new and novel.....the stock was selling for 1.36 a share.
The stock was Apple and it was 2005
the rest is history. $700.00 + and a seven to one split....$400.00+ a share and a four to one split.
Yes. Anything is possible when you have a stock that could
"change the world"
GoodGuy!
I was not trying to project any point of view with regard to
what should have been done to deal with Covid. Hindsight is just that.......hindsight.
If one studies the "Great Influenza" of 1918 (and I have), some
frightening realities become apparent. In 1918 the world's population
was 1.8 billion. International non-military air travel was basically
non-existent. Even so, over the course of the 4 years that the virus
and it's mutations were present it is estimated that as many as 150 million people DIED worldwide. The initial wave of the virus only struck young people! The second wave was the most destructive and effected all demographics.
Today we have 8 billion people worldwide and the death rate has been less than 1%. Millions of people travel internationally ever day.
Maybe (this is my point), we should collectively treat this as a message and be guided accordingly. Virus's will spread regardless of our attempts to prevent it.....this is what virus's do.....the question is how do we deal with this natural phenomenon?
The next virus might be ten times more deadly.....or we might have fairly mild virus's for twenty years.
Going forward, should we shut down our global economy every flu season and wait to see if "this years" flu is deadly? Should people stop living, stay in their homes, order all their needs on the internet, wait for their government check..........?
Maybe (without hysteria) we should begin to face Covid for what it is.....a naturally occurring event that is likely to occur again.
We have chosen to trust the health care industry to take care of us.
Why were they SO ill prepared to handle something as historically common and predictable as a virus pandemic?
When doing financial and retirement planning, bear in mind that
"lawmakers" have a way of changing the rules when they need to....
A ROTH seems like a great investment vehicle in todays world....but
five years from now? Ten years.....?
If NWBO does what we think it will do, does income tax matter

Again...no offense to the poster, but this conversation
seems VERY UNLIKELY. NWBO has been almost pathologically
quiet in communications with retail. That being the case,
how real does the reported "conversation" sound?

DR.....in addition to your comment, isn't it highly
probable that the good doctor has kept in contact with
some of the trial participants? Even without seeing
the final result tabulations, would she not be interested
enough to keep up on whether or not then participants
were still alive?
G50
I was wondering about this as well.
I went back and read the interim progress report from 2018.
NWBO is focusing on the test......not the stock price.
The final results of 13 years of data gathering cannot
be hurried in order to make a conference date. The warrants
have been frozen (I believe) because NWBO is additionally
involved in "buy out" or "partnership" talks with a major
pharm....look for an announcement. Why would NWBO want to
handcuff warrant holders?.....because something is going on
that would cause warrant holders to exercise their warrants.
Hang on everyone......could it be any plainer than this?
NWBO knows that the stock price is going up....why else
freeze the warrants?

I think you have hit it on the head.
Dyk sounds too eager/anxious and the other two judges
don't need to hear anything more.
As far as the other attorneys....the judges did not need to hear anything from them because they had already made up their minds.

The problem is that there IS no clarity.
This DU-lusional ruling has created a situation where you have to wonder if the proclamations of the FDA and the Patent Office mean anything.
The FDA demand for the R-T study was initiated because AMRN was led to believe that doing the study would move the benefits of Vascepa from the world of the dubious(non-obvious)...to the world of certain and verified(obvious)….in a "clear and convincing" manner.
The US Patent Office issued patents.
A single person in a robe has more to say about life and death in
the world than the FDA and the US Patent Office.
We need a lot of clarity on a number of subjects!

Settlement requires compromise and wisdom from all who are a party to the settlement. Unfortunately for AMRN shareholders, one of the parties to this situation is the 9th District Federal Court. If the verdict is overturned, rationality returns and life can go on...but until then everyone is just looking at each other and saying...…"WHT THE F*** IS GOING ON?"
G50

Your comments and observations are always on the mark. The problem for AMRN shareholders unfortunately, is that the stupid
"judge" who was from the Berkeley School of Jurisprudence didn't think any further than "generic good....brand name bad!"
No wisdom here!
There is no settlement because there were no winners in this ruling. Only losers! AMRN can't sell itself, generics can't produce the product they are trying to steal, American people want medicines produced in America, AMRN can't market a product that will be sold by a generic, generic can't sell a product that isn't being marketed by AMRN.....what's to settle?
Thanks Judge DU!
Can the Court of Appeals kindly step forward and convince the American people that there is SOME justice in America? What BP wants to buy AMRN when the future of the drug is SO uncertain.
The only certainty right now is that AMRN's future is in the courtroom.
I will remain a shareholder because I believe in the medicine, but I think AMRN should shut down in America and work on the rest of the world.
Maybe they can find a country where a medicine that can save hundreds of thousands of lives each year has some interest!

We will be stuck at $6 to $7 a share for at least the next quarter. The sales numbers are great and indicative of a pharma with a decent product. Because of that fact alone, the stock will hover around until something happens.
John cannot sell the company at this point. He and everyone else were totally unprepared for the lunatic liberal Judge Du and her shortsighted criminal ruling.
She will be overturned and she will have made a name for herself that will follow her for the rest of her career. After this ruling her career path is definitely on its downward path.
Selling the company at this point would be like selling a house that is on fire. You just are not going to get the best price.
The blame for all of this is not John. It is Judge Miranda.
We believed that the legal system was made to help and protect the American people......I guess not!

Your post is a confirmation of the point I was trying to make.
"Thinkers" nowadays seem to think that there are two worlds!
One world is the one they "wish" existed. This is a world where there are thirty or forty different sexes and we are heading to a glorious day when we have "one world government".
Then there is "reality".
When you live in the world of reality, you condemn racism, bigotry, and homophobia.....but you realize these things
exist. And so, because some people continue to live and behave in a world that you apparently do not, you should consider that some people continue to say things like "woman driver!".

Amrn has always gone on record as being concerned about people.
They want to save lives. They are about getting the product
out to the common folk.
Well, in American jurisprudence, this mentality is apparently naïve or childish. Price is the only consideration.
See the light AMRN.
Say goodbye to America! Sell your life giving gift to humanity
in Europe, Canada and China. Get rid of your American employees.
Send a message!
"Here is what a patent is worth in America"...."When the FDA tells you to spend millions to verify the truth of your drug" (because its value is not obvious to them)....here is what that gets you...nothing! Not only does it get you nothing....you will get to pick up the legal fees of the non-American companies that sue you!
I am hoping that the drug will some day be discovered for what it is......a miracle drug. But it does not seem that that will happen in America. Let's get to work and move back to Ireland.
Let America figure things out in its own sweet time. Maybe get
Barack, Hilary and Joe to work on it.....?
This ruling is a joke.

the USPTO and USFDA become toothless and meaningless.

Maybe it is time to look at the caliber of the judges in whom
we put our hope/laws/future in.....are they just "unethical
...all about money....don't change anything" or do they demonstrate wisdom and concern for their constituents?
BTW-I get the deal about splitting the baby. The point is
that he paused.....his wisdom guided him, not the law.

And so, does a "public servant" not owe anything to the public she supposedly serves? How does this ruling serve the cause of innovation? Allowing drugs to be produced by companies who have demonstrated time after time that their over-riding concern is money.....how does that benefit her public?
Made in India? Ingredients courtesy of China?
Basis of ruling.....56 fat middle age Aussies from Perth and
a handful of Japanese women?
Clear and convincing?
Obvious?
This ruling reminds me of the legal "professions" ultimate
fallback position....."Well, everyone deserves the right to a defense"....
Amarin should just say goodbye to America, partner with a BP in Europe, work the China marketing agreement, and continue support to the Canadian partner. In the meantime, redirect their efforts to the other numerous and apparent uses which exist for Vascepa.
Judge DU says "Screw you AMRN", "Screw you America"....
Maybe AMRN needs to take heed and return the message.

Nearly every posting I see gets me more and more
frustrated at where we find ourselves. The example
you are posting (as an example) involves issues which
can be verifiably measured. It measures things!
The Mori study and the Kuri study BOTH involve people,
not things! Dietary intake, participant reportage/honesty,
and monetary incentives which were offered to participants
are all issues which can cause results to be obviously not obvious....! Unless participants were strictly monitored
their reporting has to raise questions about statistical
reliability. Fat middle age Aussies and elderly Japanese
women cannot be measured by Angstroms.
This ***** Judge should turn in her robes.
