You nailed that one, perfect timing. Good to see IHub back. Nice to see the text rolling bye on the Pristine trial, even though there's no audio except for alerts. Big changes to the interface, much better.
PSA has met the prior top frm end of August within 5 cents.
Came down for past 3 days, but is meeting the 50ma. For the
past 6 months or so has found support at the 50 each time.
Down for today so far, but I'm watching and then I just saw
this on Yahoo. The last earnings date I have is Aug. 9.
I'll look around for better info for current one.

RESEARCH ALERT-Public Storage, Weingarten raised

Hi Lee, what I really need is one of those good old low-tech things, eye glasses. So I can tell the difference between carts and cards :)
IBM nice today. I was looking for a bit of a turn back up this afternoon, but we just broke lows in indexes. So many news stories today, takes time to catch up.
I'm watching PSA it's been nice and steady uptrend, slow mover, lower volume sometimes. It's near a prior alltime high here. Overbought, may be a double top situation.
I had a small browser font earlier and saw "card" instead of "cart," anyway, here's a bit more from xilinx
from: http://www.xilinx.com/esp/bluetooth/applications/pc_peripherals/smart_card.htm
Why is the smart card replacing the magnetic strip card?
The main reason is that the smart card can hold up to a 100 times more information than a traditional magnetic strip card. The smart card is classed as an integrated circuit (IC) card. There are actually two types of IC cards:memory cards and smart cards. Memory cards contain a memory device that allows the card to store various types of data. However, they do not have the ability to manipulate this data. A typical application for memory type cards is a prepaid telephone card. These cards hold typically between 1 Kb and 4 KB of data. A memory card becomes a smart card with the addition of a microprocessor. The key advantage of smart cards is that they are easy to use, convenient and can be used in several applications. They provide benefits to both consumers and merchants in many different industries by making data portable, secure, and convenient to access.
I bet you won't find those carts in the parking lot!
Seriously though, how cost effective could it be to place
that much technology in decentralized locations that are
mobile and prone to bumping and exiting stores. There
has to be a large number of them and would they need
reparing, updating, network connections, cleaning the
lenses, power connections, recharging batteries?
Has anyone seen them?
Funny how we're not talking about this thing :)

ot: smart cards. smart cards are like your computer on the internet. It isn't told to you how every single move you make is tracked. Cookies are one way. Do you want to be tracked by your smart card? every time it's used don't you think data is taken from the card about where it was used each time before? That's really vaulable "marketing" information. It's no longer just a little magnetic strip, but a large memory area for data storage. Can you tell what's in it? Do you have any control over it? Smart cards are used in every satellite tv receiver. We can't mess with those at all. No idea what's in it, or how it works. It's all encrypted. You may say the credit card company has all of your purchases, yes, but that information is for you. And the Credit card company or bank. However, the smart card can make that informaion portable and available to a reader located where? Can it be read by merchants at point of sale termainal? Why can't people use ATM cards or credit cards just as conveniently? Will anyone tell us the answers to these questions?
ET wow, how is it all of the sudden that E*trade makes a profit? Someone knew, look at it's rise from 52 week low set a couple of weeks ago at $4.07 to yesterday's close about $6.25 and today $7.85 also around resistance. A play soon?
p.s. insane volume
MCAF nice. At resistance now, a play later?
So for a few days i've been eyeing AMD, maybe the bad news is factored in and INTC's news would help. So i watched and I remembered the last 2 times I missed AMD at about $15. Once before the split and once after. So it was coming up from nearing the 52 week low by about 40 cents or so, not exactly a higher high :) So perhaps a intermediate or longer term double bottom? Well, the difference betweewn now and the last 2 times AMD was at 15 was the market. before the split it was nuts bullish. The last time, it was a hopefull turnaround with at least retail and apparel as the last hope and rising. Now is a different story, so why would I be the one to be testing a theoretical double bottom support level? Give me an uptrend in something with a better outlook, guidance...maybe shoes, who cares what the sector. Every CPU I or anyone I know for the past year has been an AMD but that's a small sample. So I stayed away and here's some new 52 week lows in place. I'll wait for PSA - Public Storage to bounce ff it's 50 ma in that nice uptrend it's in and wait for AMD to be in an uptrend someday, no rush. Just some recent thoughts.
Hey Lee, It has been a while. I've also been
spending more time on my creative side. I was
also even for the week - no trades. It's been
that way for a while. Been trying to make some
in order to trade it, but with 150 resumes coming
in for one tech job, competition is harder than
setting a limit on the ask and having to cancel
and place the buy again, over and over, and
having it slip away on a tech stock with an
upgrade, a former IPO, in 1999. And with Datek...
I'm kinda stuck so why not let the arts flourish.
Hard times are good for inspiration. Searching for
long trades is like searching for Bobby Fischer except,
that when he shows up, he might actually loose.
How many ways can we say it? Here's an example:
WASHINGTON (CBS.MW) - Like your long-lost, deadbeat cousin, this economic slump has moved in for a long and very unpleasant stay.
on a brighter note: PSA - still holding on
-John.
after vacation there's a lot of catching up to do, a lot has happened in 2 weeks or so. She's probably up all night falling asleep over charts, finding the best, most beaten down, yet financially sound companies that have earnings and may surprise, just for us, or she decided to stay away an extra week or 2, and spend the euros she's horded for so many years of trading. Or she found a large box of baseball cards in a basement and is evaluating their trading potential with Japaneese candlestick charts. Or took off to become the next Boston Beer celebrity since Affleck had too much.
Look at PSA
WCOM so profits were poor, but the reverse of sell the
news since this time, the news was poor and the trend
was down so I guess the same thing but other direction?
+6% at the moment Buy the bad news? Not for me.
I wouldn't short either since it's so low.
CLINTON, Miss., July 26 (Reuters) - WorldCom Group (NasdaqNM:WCOM - news), the data and Internet business of WorldCom Inc., on Thursday posted an 85 percent drop in second-quarter profits, while its long-distance affiliate, MCI Group, had a net loss on softer revenues due to low calling rates and increased competition in the traditional telephone services market.
Anyone know why WCOM has been hit so badly for so long?
pe 10.88 earnings 1.24 39billion cap 26million avg volume
data from Yahoo quote
or is it just because of this:
NEW YORK, June 29 (Reuters) - Telecommunications company WorldCom Inc. (NasdaqNM:WCOM - news) said that one of its employees caused the computer glitch that felled Nasdaq's trading systems on Friday.
Was your ALLY play purely technical in at breakout at 30 yesterday?
WTU Williams Coal nice 200 DMA bounce to the 100, I missed it, just found it, but maybe shortable here. I don't see news.
Jenna Takes Vacation; Gaming Goes Too
PRX and FLWS are nice today, good swings.
Natural dip, vacations, economic woes, or setup for next bull run with support at naz 2000 and positive earnings? I'll wait for next week to take a side.
TARO pullback looks nice, will watch
also the day before July 4, and early close. They could have shut it down for the week....
Nice posts with charts and text. Big improvement, very cool.
LIZ looked good for a day or two up off the 100 ma, but ran into resistance at the 20 ma. Good earnings though. Will retail hold up?
Did I miss bad news? TICK.NQ falling hard here.
True, I have no idea how to interpret the news and economy, but only the market's reaction to it. I liked AMD the other day over 30, then i missed entry, still nice.
BBY Did nice, was it on your list?
sounds good, but I'll let you know when I go long, that'll be time to short....
We all know it's not a double top, but what we also know is that she means that it's a higher high that's been surpassed to the up side. And it had the potential to set up as a double top. When Grandma calls your SUV a van, you know what she means, but we cut her some slack.
can you believe ONIS, it had a shareholder meeting, I guess it went well.
AMD too late, or good over 30?
Wow, accurate BEAS calls... after fed, tick.nq volatile...
BEAS got stung by interest Raid. (sorry)
Very nice move this morning. Was the BRCD chart for subscribers or is it a re-post? Just wondering if I missed that one on thread. Or is BRCD and PXD both swing trades from here?
Nice charts, Jenna. Do you have a link explaining the vertical line on the right side?
I saw that there too, but didn't take it, good trade
Hey, I almost got worried that you were "calling a bottom" with your, "...WE MIGHT HAVE BOTTOMED COMPLETELY!!..." but then I see the "...MIGHT..." and I felt reassured that you are still our same steady leader.
Seriously though, I still find it a little easier to trade the long side for some reason. Also, I never short the amounts of shares I long. It's always fewer. So if the trend suggests a long I'm fine with that.
Hey Jenna, things change so quickly, don't they? And with all the hype that goes along with each direction, you'd think there never was any prior direction. Everybody loves the markets, hates, loves. Infatuation to dispare back to passion again. Meanwhile we still profit from shorts. The indecision period sure was quick.
Interesting article in Stocks & Commodities Magazine on trading the QQQ long and short in the first half hour. They used a one minute chart and stochastics for entry based on the over sold/bought levels. Close to what I have been doing, but I've been using 5 minute charts and Pristine's reversal periods, and trades over/under prior bar's limits, trend lines, moving averages, gaps, 5 and 30 rules. Now if I can only stick to it.... That's the psych part. Getting better at that. As I look back at my charts, it's not the method that isn't as profitable as I'd like it, it's me. I'm the problem, but hey, at least I am changing that, slowly but surely. I've had to create an entire "system" just to change my own bad habits....
nice shorts on QQQ, ONIS, MSFT all around 1:30 reversal, lower high on second double top for Qs lower high for MSFT, ONIS finally gives in and for a sweet 3 points!
(bad timing for me to have to run and not play these, there will be more for sure)
wow, nice call on the CCMP short. Nice chart too.
MSFT intraday, nice double top there. I watched how it was a short opportunity there as the 5 min bar traded lower than the one before at 5 to 11am. that top bar had tails, and was right up there at the prior high at 10 am bar and 10:05 am bar. Some considerations for me were 1. the market is strong today, 2. i'd rather not short on a strong day and the 20 ma on the 5 is right under my short area so possible support 3. for me, i was already ahead, so why take more risk in the opposite direction. so then the next down bar is narrow at the potential support of the 20 ma there at 11:05, maybe setting up for continued upside going into reversal period? but then breaks down thru it and also down past prior lows between 10 and 11 am. another short opportunity. But also, MSFT has been hot, another thing holding me from kinda high risk short. but surprisingly, you get a full point down, and what's nice if you were short there, no bars even traded at or near prior bar's range! then you have a really nice doji at the bottom with bottom tails and you get one bar trading over that and there's your cover. at about 11:30 am.
The other choice, that I have been taking lately is if MSfT is breaking in a particular direction see if QQQ is still in synch with it. MSFT is 10% of QQQ and often leads it around like a dog on a leash. I usually also look at INTC CSCO ORCL and QCOM together with MSFT is up to 26.94 % of the QQQ so if they also begin to move like MSFT and you have a setup on QQQ too, decent indication. and more importantly for a learner like me, less volatile than any one component or other stock.
Am I upset that I didn't do it? No, not at all. But I am sure interested in it. It's fun to watch especially after being up for the day. also, it was lunch time, a little less predictable. Anyone like to add to this? am i mising some important points? Analysis from anyone is welcome.
Awesome. It used to take me 2 weeks to make that much. I'll be good with 1/3 of that a day. MSFT took a dip there and pulled QQQ with it, and now both are back. I see ONIS didn't even move out of it's intraday uptrend. I stayed out, and might even just stay out to remain positive for they day, for my own mental health. I have to go somewhere early anyway.
Great forum here thanks Jenna and IHub folks.
COG XTO very nice intraday, remind me of ONIS, but ONIS has more volume, seems smoother on the cart. I need this kind of "forgiving to the beginner" type stock. That's why I'm practicing/training w/ QQQ. Has ONIS been this way for a long time? As far as super nice, smooth intraday moves? As I get better trading w/ QQQ I'm starting to branch out and look at your selections, Jenna.
