Ed, Definitely a surprise, and IMHO definitely premature and not the best use of capital. Less than 12 months ago, MARA was struggling, the company's financial condition was cratering, and many on this board were wondering if the company was going to fold. Now, they have a couple of nickels to rub together, and those should be used to build the business (i.e., refill the pipeline) and execute the business plan, not buyback shares at this point in time.
I assume that neither Spangenberg's or any officer or director shares will not be subject to any share repurchase or buyback?
It's a nice repost, but what's the point Gates?? We're all waiting for announcements, but there's only a couple more things left to announce - final working device(s), partnership, sale. Until then, what's the company going to communicate - purchase of a new cappuccino machine in Denver?? I enjoy occasionally reading the posts - there's some interesting and pretty smart guys on this board, but it's like trying to unearth the mysteries of the Priory of Scion - when (and if) the science comes to fruition, we'll all be made aware when it's time. Until then, we wait - and spend (waste) valuable time posting on message boards. I've got a lot invested in this, so I'm hoping for all of us that the team succeeds. I honestly don't care when; if we win, I'll be a happy guy.
With good reason; without gas in the tank, the car goes nowhere.
The day would not be complete without hearing Wise asking "...are we home yet daddy? Daddy, WHEN will we be home???"
Never fails. As predictable as Trump whining " ... they aren't being nice to me! "
Aww, c'mon guys, my day wouldn't be complete without hearing Six whine and cry about how badly he's suffered at the hands of others .... it's become an amusing daily ritual .....
Off to iggy land ....
OK Wise, you want to stick around - fine; but cease the childish bellyaching. Man up or go back to mommy and cry in her lap. Enough already.
Agreed. Especially if, as pointed out by Ed in Doug's comments, that future revenues will be shifting to one-time settlements with less opportunities for a recurring revenue stream. I was hoping that a recurring revenue stream would reduce the ongoing pressure on the company to continuously engage in new litigation, with the attendant costs and uncertain outcomes. If this is what the future holds, MARA will have to be swinging for the fences; the litigation expense and risk makes it impossible for MARA to do otherwise - and makes revenue and profit/loss estimates almost impossible to forecast.
Wise, Every long on this board is struggling to be patient, and now, after receiving word of the test results, our impatience grows even more acute, when (IMHO) we logically should be celebrating the success of the tests and looking ahead to the next positive development(s).
We ARE moving in a positive direction, but human nature being what it is, the wait is causing all of us heartburn, including yours truly. I wish the offers would be announced tomorrow, but I have confidence it will happen.
If you build it, they will come ..... great movie, and while I know there are no guarantees, I believe it will happen for us
Flyers,
Thanks for the excellent question regarding recharging the pipeline, as that's largely where MARA's future lies.
Doug also indicated that by mid-Dec. additional details might be available to be released on the new portfolio acquisitions and ongoing litigation developments that he was unable to give more detail on today.
Overall, am very pleased with what I heard today.
Gates, Pumpkin's post this AM sounds similar to Trump's rant this morning. There's worry in both camps that things are not going as they would like.
Can anyone hazard an estimate of what this might be worth in terms of ongoing royalties or 1 time settlement??
You're correct that we're presently in a wait-and-see period, but it's wierd not to see even 1 post since the 17th.
BTW, whatever happened to Hispeedsoul?? I think that's his moniker, but memory fades with time....
Did everyone here sell? Been pretty quiet this week ....
We may be getting a little ahead of ourselves here. The merger is not final, won't be till year end at earliest, and tomorrow's conference will hopefully answer many questions and concerns.
Doug is no fool nor a babe in the woods, Flyers will be on the call tomorrow, and his and Postyle's evaluation of the proposed deal will be worth more than any "professional" analyst opinions, most of which are practically worthless.
Nice. As Postyle says, just keep those singles and doubles coming. Execute the business plan. Good work guys.
By that logic Cap, when I owned Apple at $90 when Jobs illness had cratered the SP, it was according to your thinking a shit investment and I should have dumped the stock then??
He can't move on Steve. He's like a high school sophmore who's been summarily dumped by his first girlfriend; he's hurt and angry, but he just can't let her go. Oh well, maybe he just needs more time to heal.
Where do we send the get well cards Buzz?
Ed and EM, an excellent exchange of viewpoints. Thanks for posting.
If you're young enough, you may live to see it. Nothing moves quickly in DC, unless you're bankrolled bigtime. Hopefully the pharma companies are flooding congress with their hired guns to get legislation moving at more than a glacial pace.
That's at the end of October if I remember correctly ....
Mara, since I had no intention of selling at $9 or $13, to me this is not a huge deal, except that it allows me to accunulate at what I consider a rediculously low price relative to the price at which I anticipate selling. You're a long term investor - so why not think long term?
MSL, of course winning the judgement would have been better than what happened. I want to win every case; but on what planet does that actually occur??
Excellent point Moose. If you were in this for the jury verdict, it's a disaster. If you're an investor, it's a bump in the road that will likely have zero effect long term.
Note to X
If you're not gonna splain it, next time try a stickynote on the refrigerator door ....
MSL, If it is Stryker, wouldn't an 8K be filed?
OK, I'll bite ... why not Stryker?
Thanks for staying true to form Buzz; you never disappoint ....
KC,
Just wondering about your knowledge re new investors if you have absolutely no information on them??
Anyone heard from HiSpeed in the last 2 weeks?
Knew that was coming Terry. Keep 'em coming ; that last one was dead on target and long awaited
Exactly. So because daily, weekly, monthly, or quarterly guidance may not be possible, this may not be the stock for those investing with short (<1 yr) time horizons or investing objectives.
I believe it may have been Flyers or Postyle who some time ago posted something to the effect that most investors here probably shouldn’t be in this investment; they really don’t understand this company (and IP investments in general), they focus on daily share prices and not on the business plan and how management is executing, have unrealistic timeframes, etc, etc. (If it’s not either one of them, my apologies).
I’ve been in this since pre-split, and as far as I can tell, settlements are currently happening, IPR’s are being quashed, Markman’s are generally favoring Mara, and all this while there is a very real potential for home run settlements this year that could catapult the share price to multiples of it’s present level, all from a company that began operations a scant couple of years ago … exactly what was everyone expecting – that the share price would have a continual meteoric rise without any hesitation or pullbacks? On what planet does that occur?
Am I pleased where the share price is currently? Hell no, but as far as I can tell, management has been performing extremely well, and that is what I’m most concerned about, because if Doug continues to execute as he has been, I’m confident that by the time I’m ready to cash in this investment, I’ll be more than pleased with the result.
And for those who say they never should have gotten into this investment – you can correct that situation at any time of your choosing, just please stop the whining.
You're right Snez, Terry's not trying to pick a fight, but I think he IS trying to get a few folks to open their eyes.
Ten months or ten years into the process, this is still a pre-revenue development company attempting to perfect a technology that, if sucessful, will be revolutionary. The fact that the development process is not comporting with some individuals timeframe desires or expectations is unfortunate but irrelevant. At a buck a share, you're holding an undated option which may make you screaming rich IF you're able to hold your emotions in check and let this play out
Ed, I may be mistaken, but I believe Honigs shares are also tied up as part of the Fortress deal.
Just received an LWLG robo-call concerning the upcoming ASM and shareholder voting; what's up with that? Is something going on at HQ occasioning(sp?) the Company calling shareholders directly??
Mike, I've got to side with Marasprint on this. I'm sure you know the space, but if you're a buy and hold investor, settlements, trial wins, and licensing are what drive earnings. You can trade on favorable Markman results, which MAY result in settlements or trial wins, but it is the latter that drives earnings which drives long term share prices, and that comes from management executing the business plan.
Options are a "present" only if the share price escalates Buzz.
Actually, I'm catching a vapor of B.S. wafting over the board at present, but hopefully it will blow away with the prevailing winds ....
X,
"..and ability to reproduce what is performing the magic."
Whose ability to reproduce - THEIRS or OURS? The abilities of major corporations to blatantly steal patented technologies and force a lengthy infringement fight is SOP in business today, a war of financial attrition that puts small companies at a huge disadvantage. If LWLG has the goods, that's what I see as the real risk.
