$SPY Made a quick 18% trade on a Call. A 1/2 hour trade while I wait for my SPY Puts to take shape:)
Dang! Some investors got WAC'd on that stock:) ... couldn't resist.
SLV Anybody else trading it? I have a May call
Yeah that's what I mean by "running his mouth." He would essentially attack other users that had contrary views. And would not back up his talk. Like everybody else here, I am a busy professional guy who does not have time to waste. That's why I still follow this board ... Lots of CLASS ACTS here! Ok ... Stepping down from soapbox now:)
WOW! That sasi guy is the reason I don't follow AAPL board anymore. I now only follow Option Millionaires. That dude ran his mouth non-stop and didn't know what the heck he was talking about. I feel he has a humbling period coming soon:) Sorry that happened to you Max.
SPY $152.83
Hey retiredMM. I'm with you on SLV. Picked up SLV May 18 $28C last week.
That sounds good to me $tockefeller. I'm holding $148 April 20 puts because I thought market should have started correcting a couple weeks ago. Oh well. At least my stocks are green ... Although I'd rather see money made on this put since its short term.
SPY - Hedged my put option hedge of my longterm stocks ... :) ... with a call option today for a 64% profit in first hour of trade. This contrarian investor is learning the lesson that its sometimes ok to follow the herd ... I guess
AAPL - Yeah, something will probably have to give if they keep making money like they do. Analysts/etc... get so hung up on the devices themselves and how Apple needs to make a bigger screen, cheaper iPhone, etc. All the while, Apple keeps making the ecosystem better and better, giving us a great user experience. They, IMHO, are building a nice future. Many of my friends who were very pro Droid/anti Apple, are switching to the iPhone, all with the comment "it just works." It's the very reason I switched ... and I'm very much a tech guy and tweaker. As for me, I keep adding as Apple drops. Next purchase will be $400, which it will probably hit soon. I honestly don't know after that where the price will keep going. FWIW
SPY - Hedged my SPY April put hedge by buying SPY 152w call. Made a quick $50. Nothing spectacular ... Am quite pleased with myself tho:)
I'm wondering if $440 won't hold simply because the market overall may decline for a little while.
NFLX - Just bought 20 contracts 185 calls for .02. Probably pointless and stupid but what the heck:)
Hmmm ... excellent point about using this method as protection. So, I would consider using this with my MPC position which is +50% as opposed to my INTC position which is -15%. That makes total sense. If MPC gets called away I made 50% plus premium. I'm really digging this idea. Thanks again Lee.
Thanks Lee for your time and wisdom. I'm definitely going to learn more about this avenue. Have a great evening!
So, I own shares of Intel (yes I'm red with them:) I add to my position whenever I can. Looking at selling calls when I have enough shares. My question is, lets say I accumulate 500 shares of INTC. I could sell 5 contracts of March 16 $21Calls for $14 per contract which would be $70 minus $8 trans fee, right? Or is there a per contract fee as well? Pardon my elementary questions ...
I don't mean to bombard you or the board, but do you have to pay a fee to sell calls like any other trade? Thank you very much for your insight. I really appreciate it.
Awesome! I have a Kindle book on my iPad called "Understanding Options." I read some of it last year but haven't read the part about selling calls. So far it's a good book. How far out do you sell options typically?
Hey leemalone. That's my goal someday. Right now I don't have enough shares of a company to do that. I'm still a small time investor. Do you sell calls? I wouldn't mind getting some advice/wisdom on that subject. My goal is to maximize profit while minimizing risk ... And maybe play an occasional weekly to keep things exciting:)
Thanks for your reassuring words jimmybob. You and so many people on this board are so helpful and kind. This board is the ONLY reason I still check my iHub account. This strategy is still new to me, but one thing I am going to take away from it is I need to make sure my puts are out further than a week. I guess there is still tomorrow. I see many on here playing the weeklies very well ... I'm just not that good:) Wish I was though. Haha.
Hey jimmybob. Well, it was a smart trade until the end of the day. I was up 100%+ until the market went up from its low around 1:30 CDT. Should have sold but I didn't:/
Hey MWM. Are you thinking more downside tomorrow? I bought SPY puts yesterday.
SPY - I am very much a long term investor in stocks. Love investing in good companies. But, instead of being a "permabull", as some would deem, I decided yesterday to buy puts in a couple of my long stocks, as well as a put in SPY when I saw that the market seems to have a more bearish sentiment. What do you guys think of this strategy? Has it worked for anybody else?
NFLX I'm thinking the same thing James. I may hold off until it approaches $200. Could be a psychological barrier??? Could be a psychological catalyst as well I guess.
Ah ha. You caused the spike in aapl didn't you?;) nice trade
Yeah what's up with aapl??? That happened quickly. Major news imminent?
Dude ... Derek ... As a long of AAPL I hope so! I would love to add to my position at $400! I really enjoy buying great companies for a great price. To me, going against all the bandwagon bears growling and puffing their chests, Apple is still a great company.
I bought a $80 LNKD put for April. I know I'm kinda going against the majority seemingly, I just think it's time for them to drop quite a bit. If they beat and continue to move up I'll prob continue to buy out of the money puts. Just my humble thoughts.
Yes, I think it's being unfairly punished. I do not own CHK ... Yet ... I think the gains could be huge when natural gas turns around. Been watching for a while now. Waiting.
Haha:) ... Nice. If I had a Delorean, I would go back to December 12, 1980 and buy this budding tech company called Apple:)
Dude! Call me a recording nerd, but I love the references to Emagic Logic:)
Honest analyst? Is there really such a thing??? ... ;)
Please don't post pennystock junk on here. AAPL only. Thanks!
Please don't post about penny stocks on here. Not interested. This discussion board is about AAPL. Thanks.
Haha!!! Cramer ... yeah, he has no agenda. Or any analyst for that matter. I'll trust my own brain. I am much better off when I do.
Just meant in general. I wasn't implying that you were trading GERS. Happy investing!;)
Thanks for your reply buddy. I agree. I am surprised it has climbed this high since March. With this move I actually have some hope again. Already counted it as a loss, so it would be like found money if I get anything for it. Happy trading!
Haha! I'm doing quite well on my AAPL calls:) Made another 70% today. By the way, people have been "calling the top" since $500. As much as I liked Steve Jobs he wasnt the all-in-all for Apple. It takes a collection of inspired people to make a company like Apple. Do I think Apple will continue this crazy pace forever? Of course not. Do I think it's going to slowdown anytime soon? I actually don't think so. One-trick pony? No. But a well-oiled moneymaker ... That is true. Happy trading. I respect your opinion but disagree.
100% agree SL! Happy trading.
One-trick pony? Explain. Not seeing it there buddy. Happy trading.
