ot lots o garbage now I was so excited to speak about WAVX !!!!
oh well...
racer-x-trixie - I just had a childhood da ja vu of Speed Racer... where does Utimaco's solution fit into this diagram in your opinion? I sent them an email to see what tpm's they work with. I noticed the "secure wake on lan" feature which may imply Broadcom too.... if nothing else it is worth walking down that road in order to understand the differences for my own education. Wavx has the distinct advantage in my opinion of incorporating ANYONE's TCG compliant offering into their ESC. Did Utimaco mention backup and recovery? For sure there is not attestation regarding system state in their bag of tricks imho. Okay.. back to work for me..

ot thank Taxi vader eom
racer trixie I need your help.
What in the world does this have to do with TPM's?
Are you saying Utimaco has something to do with managing keys relative to the trusted platform module? I have been away from the board for what seems like forever so perhaps you already posted the link to TPM's
TIA

Hi barge I have not forgotten I have pledged to watch you imbibe heavily in Vegas one day at my expense! I would settle for a vacationhouse Ka Boom pr any day now!
Regardless of where this winding road ends the folks here have touched me deeply and some have blessed me with unabashed gut wrenching humor. Thank you for that!
p.s.
Your DD is outstanding.. perhaps just a tad early but clearly outstanding!

barge - real world - please visit the following:
http://www.vengine.com/index.html
and
http://www.trusttoolbar.com/
if you can tell me that this in combination with your dell tpm enabled pim managed notebook has no real world advantage.. I will be simply amazed.
This does not require 1.2
The home consumer can lol.. oh my gawd... just not getting through I feel... for me personally.. I like knowing the web site I am on is really that web site including pop up boxes... I like my private information out of reach from everyone I want it out of reach from... my financial backups safe inside a vault et cetera using document manager.. Wave was smart enough to make this EASY to do!
Why do you feel these are not real world? It is not complicated to implement. The verification engine does the work for you and can give you a nice green outline around your legit web pages... very cool... very easy.. very necessary...
I have to leave for the weekend within the hour...
Have a great one everyone!

barge - others just to clarify..
I'm not saying Comodo handles third party device attestation... in fact.. not speaking about device attestation at all... that day will come and things will be even better. But you can enjoy being protected today.. this is huge and should get pushed hard... perhaps it will..
Regards,
C2
barge LOL... this is what I am saying:
The information is in the Private Information Manager. When a site requests any sensitive data your ultra intelligent PIM will supply the data with your okay i.e. NO KEYSTROKES required! Pretty cool really... and not a bad INSTANT solution until trusted keyboards are standard.
The Comodo tools are not the result of any agreement I am aware of with Wave. The tools can be used on any PC Today.. TPM or no tpm. However - the combination of a tpm enabled device with PIM and Comodo's free and easy to use tools gives you a POWERFUL solution RIGHT NOW! So simple to implement and use. I chose to roll it out as a standard with the tpm enabled devices here ( a natural and powerful combination )... others will come up with other way cool solutions I'm sure... when they do - please share!
My information comes from my manic obsession with trust and scouring the ends of the earth for it... perhaps you have heard of this disorder
Regards,
C2
Hi Doma! Deal! I'm still waiting for my 620 as well! Microsoft has a 64bit XP Pro version but I do not believe they have 64 bit .net yet... wonder how that will effect me... I believe the ESC will come with Optiplex but the ETS will not. I have received licensing keys from two different vendors now servicing Wave.. not sure why some from one and some from the other lol... I'm all for encrypted emails... this will be another cool test. I just need the public key from your digitally signed email (PIECE OF CAKE)and you need mine!
Regards,
C2
R2, not to do a spoof on a star wars thing here between R2 and C2 lol.. but you are a pioneer as well! You have a dell latitude and use PIM and document manager. Using comodo's third party trusted and FREE products you can eliminate the threats of phising and pharming... not too shabby for 19.00 bucks huh ? By the way... I'm sure there are MANY MANY other practical applications of the already existing models... but it is new.. this board is the tip of the consumer spear as well perhaps... anyone else here yet have the dell tpm enabled products? You really should...
Regards,
C2
Hi wavxmaster. Who knows what solution Citigroup is or was looking at. I know in general encrypting files using third party software is cumbersome and causes a great deal of over head... typically has to spool out to a temp file and the keys are sitting in memory (good grief.. slow... costly.. unsafe... ugh).
Files encrypted using the document manager with keys already provided on the tpm is fast, easy and very inexpensive, and most secure. My feeling is that if they don't get it.. they soon will... this is by far and away the best solution for secure files on any backup media...

Hi Weby. I think it is more just a matter of timing and resources. Dell is going to be a great push for Wave imho. Product is truly only just becoming available.. case studies are being done so that the folks at Dell can see the every day real value in using this as a differentiator. Dell Brand managers DO get it imho and they supply the details right down the line to the sales folks. To us trusted computing should be a strapping young teenager but in reality it's head is just cresting. Soon it will be born and when it is it shall seem as though it was always here. You wont be able to remember a time without it or even want to try... my feeling is we are at the wall (marathon speak)... I'm always conflicted because my Dad is brilliant with finances.. and he doesn't like waves... but he has no understanding of the technology or how wave has single-handedly ushered in trusted computing.. my own personal belief is that they alone truly have the deep knowledge... my belief is that they are not idle waiting for things to develop... while others try and figure out how the heck wave does what it does wave is off merrily working on the next pieces already.. my own personal belief is that every day wave separates itself from any potential competitor a little more... every day someone new like a Seagate goes to wave to ask how do I get my products to incorporate trust and be protected from disaster... every day someone who wants to advance their products goes to the single authority... every day someone goes back and forth with wave providing feedback and samples and tests (no hidden competitors because they go to wave for feedback not anyone else imho)... everyday... but truly truly truly.. it is only just beginning.. my personal feeling is we may continue to slog a little bit.. but truly it may only be a little bit... since I have no clue what goes on behind the scenes I have no real idea... all I know is I use the dell tpm devices today with ets del edition and I know things are much more secure... way cool stuff!
Kindest Regards,
C2
Hi wavxmaster - thank you for the kind words! The problem with this investment always goes back to something barge said. It truly is the longest strip tease in all investment history lol... it's coming.. we all know it coming... the gorillas know it's coming.. just when is the real question as usual...
"Looks as though many here will have to buy new shoes before the real dancing begins because our shoes will be out of style by the time the music starts"
The funny thing is.. things can literally change on a dime... and BAMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM... take-off!
In the meantime consumers can enjoy the benefits today... Dell will get it if they haven't already... I strongly suspect you'll see some case studies to go along with the commercials... TPM 1.2 are only JUST now available.
My own belief is that it is happening.. it is real.. it will be meaningful on many levels... TCG TNC has proofed out software side only probably in order to get things moving RIGHT NOW imho... new products coming soon I would think. Cisco really needs to get a clue or get left behind... whatever.. it is all interesting if nothing else...
In the meantime I am a lot safer and so is my sensitive corporate and personal data - I don't have to wait any longer for that to happen!
p.s.
I strongly suspect Dell is well aware what happened to Citi group is something that can and should be avoided. There is a super easy and ultimately most cost effective solution available to implement today for peanuts… so simple…
Regards,
C2
Hi barge - YES!
Sorry for late reply - just got freed up..
Key loggers and trojans want your sensitive information! Your passwords, credit card info, name, email address, everything that will assist them to steal your identity! ALL of this is keep in your Personal Information Manager. There are no keystrokes to use and no way to access the information for a trojan and key logger - stopped dead in their tracks!
Phishing and Pharming try and get you to supply personal information by spoofing websites and or forms (popups) looking for sensitive information. Using Comodo to handle (free) third party trust and verification you are sure the NO ONE can take you to a false Best Buy or Amazon web site!!!!!!!! They cannot launch a false or spoofed popup box! Heck you can even tell if the site is recognized by Visa MasterCard et cetera instead of just SAYING they are in order to look important. You can tell if the SSL is a high level or low level secure connection. In this way consumers do not need to wait for Wave to push out millions of KTMAD servers all over the globe for third party trust or wait for direct anonymous authentication (it will happen imho and be MUCH more secure but you do not need to wait today to be safe).
You do not need the 1.2 for this either but if you have it you will be able to lots of cool stuff coming to a theater near you imho...
Regards,
C2
Hi barge! I didn't even touch on device authentication in my post All those items I mentioned are available and enjoyed today without any latency while keys are checked in and out of your tpm. My point is that RIGHT NOW anyone not using a tpm to protect themselves is simply relying on their own "best practices" and good luck! Well.. why rely on good luck when you can make your own
I'm not talking about device attested vpn's to corporate or trusted peer to peer. All that is there and all that is being addressed by pushing keys out to attesting servers close to the users in my humble opinion.
My take on what's going on here and I know it will be hugely unpopular..... folks here are too damn smart! Things are happening but the expectations here are WAY TOO UNREALISTIC near term. How long does it take some to understand trusted computing? How long would it take someone to learn it well enough to sell it???????????????????????????????????? In my opinion the folks at wave are SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO busy flying out to meet clients then turning around THAT DAY and jumping on planes to fly to Texas for more training seminars that run quite late into the evening (AMHO)
Folks here are so early to the dance that they were standing where the ground breaking ceremony was conducted and watched the walls go up around them... trusted computing is coming but holy cow... at any second wave could get sucked up into a hockey stick style investment or continue to slog while it brings awareness to big business (wave does the tcg marketing don't forget). IMHO Wave is heavily involved with all aspects of TCG. So how to make money while TCG becomes a reality? Certainly when it is a reality you and every other Wave investor will be ridiculously happy IMHO. My Dad on the other hand always tells me - son, nice little company, nice technology, but they aint gonna make it I'm afraid.. someone may buy their technology but it wont be them that brings it to market.... Oh Dad.. dream a little dream...
barge buy a dell and ets... be safe

mbarr tell them the truth
Some very powerful reasons for consumer ets are:
They will no longer have to worry about key loggers or other malicious trojans anymore!
Ultra convenient and ultra safe web visits with self populating information manager and any combination of trust tool bar and or verify engines.
They will no longer have to worry about phishing or pharming attacks anymore!
The big collection of pictures they have of their kids (some in the tub and other usual warm fuzzy pics) are forever safe from prying eyes if your laptop is ever stolen!
How many people created notepad or other documents with their various passwords and account numbers (bank, broker,) wire transfer numbers everything so that they do not forget? Would you ever want that stolen? Keep it safely and conveniently accessible in any document manager vault you created.
They can easily communicate with tpm protected cryptographically sealed email messages if they want - who cares how many servers your private email sits on now!
Will your friend backup his data? Worried about the theft of the media on which his information is stored? He will never have to worry again because his data appears as "blobs" which is of no use to anyone without the keys.
Just off the top of my head and what I use it for as a consumer initially.
mbarr - this is an easy sell! Do you have anything on your desktop or notebook you'd rather keep to yourself.... anything ? How about your quicken (turbo tax, medical expense, rental property, 401K, bank )database backups How about your Microsoft Money backups???? I store them in my vault... why on earth would ANYONE store them anywhere else..

OT Zen - just emailed them with the link to make them aware.. I'm interested in their response...

Hi Zen - sounds reasonable but it would be nice to know it was intentional instead of a website hack! The webmaster of that site should be made aware of it ASAP to make sure it was intended to be there... seems as though it wouldn't have been part of the presentation and more just a hack on the sites contents... interesting to know either way.. it seems with as skittish as people are you would want to disassociate yourself from that line of thinking totally especially since the article about Intel quietly adding drm... sheesh
p.s.
Thanks for introducing me to "bragging about the objection"

ot Ramsey I think you hit the nail on the head. Fortunately for us the "time will tell" mantra doesn't seem to be so far off into the future any longer... thank goodness!

Hi Jaybeaux. He wants to put some higher level engineers in touch with us... he mentioned OpenView will manage a mixed oem tpm enabled environment but to be honest - I felt like he was making it up... like he really had absolutely no idea how they were going to manage a typical environment like ours. He didn't want to engage on the protect tools topic like it was non existent... so all in all I have NOTHING to report at all... except to say this particular person sounded unhappy to have nothing to offer... yet.. perhaps the future conversations will be more useful... sorry!

ot Interesting product. How long will it be before this is tpm enabled. Would you trust the Microsoft finger print wizard without tpm protection?

Hi Ramsey - it is all coming together quite nicely it seems. The missing piece seems to be how ETS gets deployed (bundled or purchased). I think the poster flat just let us know! Perhaps we see Dell bundle certain desirable ETS features but allows for the up sell for the highly compelling upgrade features?

"While listening to Steven at the SHM last week, he mentioned that Wave software could be priced by 'features' supplied to the vendor. I took this to mean that if an OEM didn't want to pay the price for a complete software solution, certain features could be provided at a reduced price and thereby not lowering the value of the total solution package just for a sale.
Today's news confirms his statements about wanting to "be in the box". Looking forward to a great ride!"

ot Hi flat - great observation! Thank you for sharing this!

Thanks Doma/Ramsey - clarity is what these boards are all about... so it absolutely must be Intel MOBO for ETS (at this point) but the hope is that Dell bundles ETS to synergistically accompany the STM ESC CSP! Got it now.

Hi Ramsey2 - I should have said something like IMHO as I was using YOUR data points for that post - not a staement of fact lol... your previous post of esc and csp and doma's stm drivers on dells website combined with Itel MOBO's supporting tpm on dell optiplex well... perhaps all this cross referenceing and dot connecting of others dot connecting references is getting confusing LOL...

awk an odd thing happened this morning. Our systems integrator OBVIOUSLY passed along the word to HP (previously providing our infrastructure) that they were no longer in the game as all we will deploy are tpm enabled devices and our requirement to manage a mixed oem environment. My voice mail was inundated with calls from HP folks I have never heard from or previously contacted before with what can only be described as desperation in their urgency that I contact them ASAP (repeated calls over the weekend?!?!?! Sheesh). Naturally I will contact them first thing this morning. How very odd... or is it?

Thank you awk! On another note and sorry to tie this into a response to you specifically - I wish I had private reply so I could say thank you to the folks who have shown kindness and or insights via private message... my apologies to those that I can't make timely responses to (free friday (I know kinda cheesy). I'd make a public post saying something but feel that isn't appropriate as it is clear the intentions are to keep them private
Please let me reiterate my appreciate to those folks... Thank you!

Just out of a meeting so sorry this wasn't timely either..

Hi Doma - my pleasure! <eom>
Hi ootommy. I have never mentioned wave to this particular vendor... actually to any vendor at all. I do not specifically have a tendency towards "wave" at all, as hard as that may be to believe. For me.. it is all about "Dell" and what THEY have to offer vs. HP, IBM, NCR, Others. Wave is brilliant for having a "Dell" edition offering. It is an EASY sell when it is "Dells" solution. This is what Dell is offering.. if I had to introduce an unknown company it is possible to sell it here but it becomes MY reputation rather than Dells reputation. For me personally I LOVE the fact there is a "Dell" edition. That name carried weight..
Regarding your questions about how the response came about - I received information about a Toshiba tablet pc and noticed it was being targeted towards finance, healthcare, blah blah blah. I wrote the following back to this particular vendor "Dell has this notebooks same chip set from Intel. Theirs comes with a trusted platform module. Does this come with a trusted platform module? If so does it come with software to manage the trusted platform module like Dell's ETS 1.0"
From that question came several responses one of which is the one to which you refer and the others I haven't posted. For instance - that fact that Dell is approximately 12 months +/- 3 months ahead of Toshiba regarding 1.2 deployment (according to his Toshiba contact). He left me with the impression that Toshiba was a bit panicked to get their 1.2 ducks in a row. This is why he switched the attention over to HP. HP has a way to manage the client side but they have no way to manage the server side. This particular vendor did his own research into the "how do we not lose this customers business to dell research). It seemed to me that HP would neither confirm or deny they even had 1.2 product available regarding my intention to "migrate" the keys. I found that odd... is it possible HP is fudging it a little with their "1.2" ? Is it possible they have a chip capable of 1.2 but lack the NTRU core equivalent? I have NO IDEA but I found the scrambling and lack of assurance regarding HP's product rather odd. This particular vendor did however point out that Dell's server side solution was available for HP as well (according to the information he found on Wave's website - a link he found on his own) in order to reassure me that HP was still a viable option.
My impression is that Dell is about to eat everyone's lunch. They seem to be positioned well ahead of the competition with a complete offering. Vendors like this have their livelihood involved here as well. If Dell comes out with 1.2 then you will hear a noise unlike any other from vendors all over the globe DEMANDING a complete 1.2 solution (otherwise they go home empty handed)... These folks do not have the luxury of allowing Dell to have any advantage. They NEED to be able to sell HP, TOSHIBA, et cetera. My impression was that Microsoft is KEY here... Toshiba wants secure startup to be backwards compatible so they can dawdle... However, they will meet Microsoft’s schedule... what choice do they have. This particular vendor is a little scared to realize they have lost so much ground to Dell... and it hasn't even begun yet...

ot dig space my pleasure! <eom>
Mundo - excellent warning towards the bottom. I can tell you with 100% certainty Cisco is scared quite a bit by Dell, AND THEY SHOULD BE. Cisco buys smaller companies and jams the products into their boxes... not very elegant or all that great a "solution". I received an invitation only dinner request from Cisco today to discuss their future... my impression is that they are afraid of losing customer base and wanted that warm fuzzy again over dinner. Well... Cisco is making huge blunders in my opinion and I am looking at alternatives to their products like checkpoint and juniper.
AIMHO..

Ramsey2 Great Post! <eom>
Hi orda - all I can tell you is that in order to push HP TPM enabled products "today" my vendor recommended wave systems KTM along with HP's protect tools...
Hi XXX,
"I have some interesting news for you. As I mentioned in my voicemail earlier, Dell is using software from a 3rd party company called Wave Systems. This company offers server based management software, and it works with a number of HP systems along with Dell and other manufacturers. Below I am including a few links for further information that you will find useful in evaluating vendors as you make this important directional decision.
http://www.wave.com/products/ets.html (HP, IBM, Dell, and Fujitsu all have notebooks supported by the ETS software provided by Wave Systems)
I have also included a comparative PowerPoint presentation with slide-by-slide comparisons of HP notebooks with Dell and others that I believe you may find useful as well. Naturally, it has a marketing slant towards HP and is directed towards salespeople and account managers such as myself, but there is no internal confidentiality on it so am passing it along. I have a few individuals from both XXXXX (2nd tier support engineers) and HP who have helped me compile this information for you and would be very interested in an opportunity to tout the benefits of HP vs. Dell with you should you feel so inclined. I think it would be important for you to know that HP includes HP ProtectTools with its TPM enabled notebooks which allows you to manage your keys, and Wave Systems' Enterprise Manager software (http://www.wave.com/products/ktmes.html) will work with these notebooks as well.
http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/security/ (A link to excellent information on HP's security offerings including the ProtectTools included with select TPM enabled notebooks)
Thank you for the opportunity to serve you. Should you find that the HP or other systems indicated would be a good fit for your organization I would be pleased to put together quotes for your business needs in this area.
Have a great weekend!
XXXXXXX"
HP Recommends Wave Systems!?! Is this new? A vendor trying to sell me HP products pointed out HP Protect Tools and recommended Waves Systems KTM in an email to me and included this link:
http://h200005.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c00264970/c00264970.pdf
On Page Ten you find this:
Q. Do HP clients support large scale deployment of the TPM embedded security chip?
A. Embedded Security for HP ProtectTools includes a number of configuration settings that can be managed through a Windows security policy template. Refer to the technical White Paper on
embedded security published online (ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/products/security/embedded_security_-
_implementation.pdf). Additional information can also be found in the Embedded Security for HP ProtectTools online help files.
There are also third party software solutions that can help with managing TPM embedded security chips on a large scale. Wave Systems has a solution that enables security chip key management and roaming. Infineon Technologies is another important HP partner in security. We have collaborated extensively on our Embedded Security and Credential Manager for HP ProtectTools modules. As part of Infineon’s broader portfolio of security capabilities they are in the final stages of developing a back-end security management solution that works with HP ProtectTools. It addresses TPM embedded
security chip key management and provides highly manageable enterprise single sign-on capability when used with Credential Manager for HP ProtectTools. HP business PCs and business notebooks will also support large scale deployment of TPM embedded security chips by allowing certain one time configuration processes to be scripted. This script support
is available today on business desktops today. Business notebooks that feature a TPM embedded security chip require a BIOS update that is expected to be made available by the end of 4Q04. HP has documented this support through a white paper and sample

Orda - Dell builds the pc / laptop after you order it. That is their model. The sales folks will tell you their model calls for 3-5 days to build it then they have to ship it... the 1-2 weeks is appropriate when speaking about Dell...

Doma.. I noticed it allows only DVI for your monitor.. seems this is in fact a trusted PC. Just as a side note.. did their integrated card readers always allow for a pre-paid card option? Probably.. but I just don’t remember seeing that before...
