Heres a copy of an email I got back from Investor Relations
Page 34 of Wachovia Corp.'s 2002 Annual Report includes verbiage that says
"In connection with the Wachovia merger, we issued 97 million shares of
Dividend Equalization Preferred Shares (DEPs)...". That is the security
referenced by the WAVAP ticker symbol.
Briefly, in connection with the First Union / Wachovia merger, legacy
Wachovia shareholders were given the choice between receiving a 1-time cash
payment of $0.48 per share or 2 DEPs of the new Wachovia. The DEP security
was intended to insure that a holder receives at least $0.30 in dividends
per quarter in respect of each common share of the new Wachovia.
This can get confusing - if you'd like to talk through it, please call me
at 704.374.2645. Of course, Wachovia's common stock trades under the
symbol "WB", which is currently trading around $46.00.
Thank you,
Kim Zweier
I think some might be looking for a possible dividend payment in Dec. but according to this release there will be no div.in Dec. and future div. rights will cease. http://finance.lycos.com/qc/news/story.aspx?symbols=NYSE:WB&story=200310211741_PRN__CHTU024
As the fourth quarter common stock dividend of 35 cents per share will exceed the 30 cents per equivalent share historical dividend of legacy Wachovia, there will be no quarterly cash dividend declared on the Dividend Equalization Preferred Shares (DEPS). Upon payment of the fourth quarter dividend, the future dividend rights of the DEPS will cease because Wachovia's total dividends paid to common stockholders for four consecutive quarters will have equaled at least $1.20 per common share. The DEPS were issued in connection with the merger between First Union Corporation and the former Wachovia Corporation on Sept. 1, 2001. Any body following HNNS? took a dive Fri. 3.6 mil. DNAP NEWS DNA Witness Used to Guide the Investigation in Trail Side Murder Case in Concord, California
Jump to first matched term
SARASOTA, Fla., Oct. 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- DNAPrint genomics (OTC Bulletin Board: DNAP) today confirmed that DNA Witness, a DNA test that determines an individual's ancestral proportions, was strategically employed in the investigation of the Trail Side Murder Case in Concord, CA. Detectives used the DNA Witness test to obtain physical information about the suspect. This allowed detectives to focus on high value leads related to the suspect.
On September 26, Concord police announced the arrest of a suspect in the May 13, 2003 slaying of Kathleen Aiello Loreck. The DNA Witness analysis was completed in mid-August. According to detectives, using DNA Witness allowed them to narrow their investigation and re-weigh the value of certain leads based on the information provided by the test, revealing the suspect's ancestry.
"DNA Witness provided significant information about the suspect that we used to focus our investigation. DNA Witness is a great new tool in criminal investigations. It helped us in this case, and saved us time and money," said Sergeant Michael Finney of the Concord Police Department.
The suspect's arrest was achieved through outstanding detective work on the part of the Concord Police Department. Standard DNA testing provided a unique identifier from the crime scene DNA, but the crime scene DNA did not match any of the profiles in the FBI's CODIS database. The genetic heritage of an individual cannot be accurately inferred from standard DNA tests, but detectives continued their quest to learn about the suspect from his DNA. This search led investigators to DNAPrint genomics for a new type of DNA analysis, DNA Witness.
DNA Witness is the world's first forensic test to measure the ancestry of an individual from his DNA. DNA is commonly left at crime scenes, but until DNAPrint developed DNA Witness, no physical information could be reliably read from that DNA other than gender. Forensic validation studies of DNA Witness were performed by the San Diego Police Department Crime Lab, the National Center for Forensic Science and the Broward County, Florida Crime Lab. In July, a report in the Journal of Forensic Science provided the scientific rationale and results of studies related to DNA Witness. DNAPrint genomics has successfully determined the ancestral background of over 5,000 individuals.
"We are working with detectives, like Sgt. Finney, on cases that have gone cold or are at a standstill," said Richard Gabriel, CEO and President of DNAPrint genomics, Inc. "We encourage law enforcement officers to contact us. In this case, as in others when DNA Witness has been used, the scope of the investigation was narrowed and resources were more efficiently deployed in a multi-state manhunt. DNA Witness is proving to save time and resources by contributing valuable information about the suspect's ancestry. If there is a crime scene sample of DNA, DNA Witness could help re-direct or focus the investigation."

Congressman LaHood's Staff Backs Homeland Security's Funding Trident's ProMag
LAS VEGAS, Aug 6, 2003 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- The Peoria-based staff of Congressman
Ray LaHood (R-Ill), Chairman of the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence
and the Subcommittee On Terrorism and Homeland Security has presented Trident's
ProMag rare-earth permanent magnet-powered quick sealing system to the
Department of Homeland Security for potential funding in order to enable the
nation's 31,000-plus fire departments to purchase ProMag systems as part of the
regular equipment package carried on fire engines and trucks. The systems, which
have received enthusiastic endorsements from the Los Angeles Fire Department and
the Chicago Fire Department, would give to the fire departments of the nation
the ability to quickly and inexpensively seal leaks and ruptures in storage
tanks and pipelines (among many applications) caused by terrorist activity. The
ProMag system employs super powerful magnets to affix leak and rupture sealing
patches, even when the leak or rupture involves hazardous or corrosive
materials. ProMag's value to the safety of the public and the environment is
considerable. No other device or product available today can equal ProMag's
performance.
Arland Dunn, Chairman and CEO of 21st Century Technologies, Inc. (OTCBB: TFCT)
said, "The average fire department in this country operates 2 (and a fraction)
fire trucks/engines per department. Trident, our wholly-owned subsidiary, will
equip them with ProMags, greatly increasing their effectiveness as
anti-terrorism tools, working to protect the citizens and security interests of
this country. The only problem has been the general lack of money. The
availability of federal funding to the individual fire departments to purchase
ProMags will be a wise investment in our future. Tank farms, pipelines, railroad
tank cars are all easy and prime targets for terrorist activities. The ready
availability of ProMag through our fire departments enhances our well-being as a
nation. We are ready to respond to the call of the Bravest of our country to
provide to them our terrorist-blunting ProMags."
Commenting further on Congressman LaHood's Peoria-based staff's interest in
ProMag, Chairman Dunn said, "They saw quickly the value of providing federal
funding to our fire departments to enable the acquisition of ProMags. Our
business will benefit, obviously. And so will our Nation's guard against
terrorist actions on our soil."
21st Century's Trident Technologies Inc. manufactures two versions of its
magnet-powered sealing devices; ProMag, designed for land-based applications,
and SeaPatch, designed for marine applications. Trident's powerful magnetic seal
systems are becoming established in the marketplace. Among its users are some of
the world's largest corporations, such as Exxon-Mobil (NYSE:XOM), CSX
(NYSE:CSX), Conoco (NYSE:COP), Dow Chemical (NYSE:DOW) and the Union Pacific
Railroad (NYSE:SP).
Trident's rare-earth magnets have been acquired for custom applications by the
United States Navy's Naval Sea Systems Command's (NAVSEA) Emergency Ship Salvage
Material (ESSM) http://www.essmnavy.net. The ESSM system is a mixture of bases
and other facilities that provide ship salvage, pollution control and
engineering equipment on an emergency basis. Additionally, the Canadian Military
Authority has acquired custom-designed Trident rare-earth magnets on an ongoing
basis for confidential applications.
"The assistance of Congressman LaHood's good offices to ProMag will be of great
help in our efforts to bring these products to the place in the market which
they deserve," said Mr. Dunn. "Trident and 21st Century are entering into an
exciting period of beneficial growth, ignited by the Department of Homeland
Security and our nation's need for enhanced security."

designed and will manufacture and deliver to the Canadian Military authority 10

releasable; however, the Canadians provide specifications for such custom work,
which is then engineered and built by Trident. Once prototypes are ready, they
are returned to Canada for field trials. Following the field trials, some

Trident's SeaPatch and ProMag leak-sealing devices. The Company is advised that
an additional order for custom magnets to Canadian specification will placed
with Trident during the month of September 2003.
In addition to the pending September 2003 order, the Canadian Military authority

current order brings the number of Trident-supplied special design applications
to the Canadian Military authority to 52.
"Our relationship with the Canadian Military continues to be most satisfying,"
said Arland D. Dunn, President and CEO of 21st Century, and President of Trident

penetration within the United States military establishment as well. We already
have some specialized U. S. Navy applications."
Trident current provides its patented permanent rare-earth magnets to the Naval
Sea Systems Command's (NAVSEA) Emergency Ship Salvage Material (ESSM). The ESSM
system is a mixture of bases and other facilities that provide ship salvage,
pollution control and engineering equipment on an emergency basis.

startling. Our expectations that custom work will become a substantial part of
our business are being fulfilled."
