"Willing to negotiate...IN PRINCIPLE. Like, let's negotiate the 3g deal and get on with it already.
Excellent post. Still waiting to see the Virgin revenues come pouring in!
Still waiting on resolution of Scan-Buy legal actions.
songioan, if NOK appeals the order, where would the infringement come from? They would simply be pursuing legal remedies. There would not be infringement until all those were exhausted.
OR???
badgerkid, not trying to slam you or 'set you up' for a slam. Simply interested in others strategies and tactics on the investment.
Since I have made so many mistakes in the past, I simply seek to learn a lesson or two every now and again.
Sometimes it takes a while for it to sink in tho...
Why would they throw in the towel? Too profitable to delay - with a gamble for more.
badgerkid, are you playing the DEC and or the JAN calls?
If so, what strikes are you playing?
TIA
AMS,
ANOTHER BUYING OP !!
LOL.
You go ALL IN
Still here. Have not had a chance to scan all the posts. Price sucks. Where are we? What's going on summary?
I thought you sold?

Well, my 20K long just went Bye-Bye at $19+. I have never heard such a weak CC and mishy mouth explanations of the settlement with LU. The bit about working with LU is nothing but BS. You either have an agreement or not. Don't talk to me about the possibility of talking about an agreement. I am now convinced that this is one stock that is not worth any more than a traders bump now and then.
I also have a bit of MOBL. Another 2 quarters to see if there is any steak with the 'sizzle'.
Still here. Waiting to see some significant revenues. What is going on?
thx for reply. Should have said nobody is paying ME any rent.
DannyDetail, By somewhat keeping a previous thread alive, I need some info about shorting and impact on dividends and voting and the like. Can you/anyone give me a reference for a good place/author to start?
Also seems to me that if ‘nobody’ knows what the short interest is at any particular moment, the longs are getting screwed to the extent in that the market is otherwise flooded with our own shares with a total in excess of that authorized for the period of time the ‘short interest’ exists.
We also get screwed in that nobody is paying to ‘rent’ shares so they can short them.
Just another dirty little Wall Street secret?
DannyDetail, Reason I asked is that there generally seems to be a lot of stray 'anti-short' type stuff floating around on the www and such, etc.
seems to me that with the rise in internet trading, where I have to mark my trade as long, short, margin, etc., and with options buy to open, sell to close, etc., it doesn't seem to be too difficult a task to start getting some more current numbers.
I am certain it would spark objections - primarily from those that potentially benefit. Like I said, if they can get the data for a month, they certainly can get it daily. I seriously doubt 'they' do not have this process automated by now. Theoretically, what stops someone from selling more than the number of outstanding shares in a company over a month time frame? By the time anyone notices, it could be "too late" and I do remember reading that this type thing has happened in the past. Not necessarily just this stock, but for stocks in general. Unless there is some sort of monitoring going on.
Thanx for your replies.
Question for some of our market savvy types:
Why can we NOT get daily Short Interest data? If it can be gathered for the month, it surely can be gathered and publicized for each day.
Is it too difficult of cumbersome to get or is something else at play?
TIA
Quartz/DaveDavis, And even if there was one that fit these bills, why would they sell out for so little? IDCC is a billion dollar co and barely making money now, let alone $50 Millions. This is a dream only.
But very nice.
OT; In all seriousness, all you guys anywhere in Rita's path just get the hell out of there. Take a risk with your stocks, not your life.
We can bash about this later.
Monterey200, reasonable hypothesis. Actually I hope this is correct and all will come signing and paying.
Great - if you sold early and bought back after the close. Sure, the market tanked on Rita news. But this has been in takeoff mode for what, 5 years or more? It has been on the launch pad [and it even launched in 99] [since 2000] so long that it may be running out of fuel. Yes, this is the news all longs have been waiting for. When NOK was signed in 99, it was the new all longs were waiting for. When ERICY came in it was the news all longs were waiting for. When Hop-on came in it was the news all longs were waiting for. I could swear that there is a pattern developing here. Maybe the chart guys can do something with this?
When LU comes in, will it be the news all longs are waiting for? When NOK / SAM comes in, will it be the news all longs are waiting for? I hope so.
If you have followed my posts, you will see that I cannot be properly classified as a "new" management basher as I have made similar comments in the past. For me this is absolutely frustrating. Mostly because I BELIEVE in the future of this company STILL. But I maintain my right to "bash" that which I see, perceive, analyze, etc., as antithetical to my investment.
So, 'Why are the Management and BOD bashers out in force' when this is on the 'launch pad'? I don't know for sure [still haven't got the secret basher decoder ring yet] if that is even accurare, but some of it is simply because the management and BOD have been hugely rewarded but have yet to really produce commensurate results. 2 years ago, the stockholders revolted against the options plan offered by management for management and it basically got cut in half. Seems that ever since, they have been trying to get it all back thru circuitous means, the latest being the cash flow incentive plan. When will this stop?
Do I want to answer for 'them' [the other 'bashers'? Of course not. "They" can answer best for themselves. Are you positing for all the "loyal at all costs, longs"? God, I hope not.
Osoesq - you may be on to something there. But since I am now the resident basher [still behind CorpBuyer, DMiller and AMS probably] you should watch your step as the loyalist longs are out there just waiting to attack!
OT: Someone please e-mail me with instructions on how to get paid to be a basher [I also need the instruction manual, updated playbook and secret decoder ring]. No need to go public with that!
Spencer - THX, that was my point- you got it - who EVER was THE INDEMNIFYER???
Surely the company did not create this entity to deflect attention away from the lack of licsensing action !
And now nobody can remember what this is all about? Now they create a new bonus plan based on cash flows???
Gman, Correct. Board did say 2 but UB intimated the plural meaning could be more than 2. But 2 was the minimum and they did come thru. No big Boy yet, but as you say, the Qtr is not yet over. And yes, I truly do hope for E/SNE or better MOT to sign soon for 3g. I EXPECT that at some point because the management has ALWAYS supported the notion that we have the Engine and transmission [and they already got their bonuses for that stuff] and if that is actually the case, then EVERYONE MUST license, right?
Since they have been in econimic discussions for some time now, it would be just a little disingenuous to start basing the bonus plan on that which should probably already be in the bag, save for the nebulous "indemnifyer" out there that has been stopping everything from proceeding.
HookRider, Did I see the price action coming today? NO. Not specifically today anyway. I did EXPECT something relatively soon based on previous management comments that they are [were] in economic discussions with 'several' companies for over a year now. AND at the last CC BM said / confirmed/ whatever - 2 by end of QTR. They made good on that one.
Yes, we knew generically about the potential for laptops - way back in 1999 from some of CorpGold's posts. Hardly a revolutionary or visionary development, but if it makes you feel better that this development substantiates your vision and DD acumen, then CONGRATULATIONS!
Some of this is in the expected column and maybe some in the bonus column. Therein lies some of the rub – we really wouldn’t have a clue because we have no standard by which to measure. Some folks here are always going to go ga-ga over the next development. But lets be real, Arima Communications Corp. and Quanta Computer Inc. are among the lesser includeds. At least to me and I am guessing MANY others. Never heard of either. I hope they are the best thing since sliced bread, but we all hoped for that with some of the others too [read hop-on, et al].
And we all should thank you for reminding us that IDCC is not 'just' cellphones. Since we do not have your analytic acumen and vision, nobody here could have figured out that the deal with RIMM did not possibly have anything to do with PDA type devices and E-Mail transmissions either.
And by the price action, it doesn’t seem that my shares are in THAT huge a demand right this moment. Sure glad I didn't over-react in pre-market action!
wayhaw, probably the wrong use of the word. Meant it in context of "bootlicker" as in the bootlicking mindless faith and belief - especially with the ilk that simply says, "sell and move on"
In a [more] perfect world, the shareholders elect representatives [BOD] to surveille their interests. It is a check and balance, not simply an extension of management. We shareholders have collectively hired the BOD to protect us from bad management. They hire the management to run the company in the day-to-day, quarter-toquarter, etc. operations with an eye toward protecting and enhancing our investments. The BOD can get rid of management and we can get rid of them.
I am bitching because it is my right as an owner [albeit very small owner] to do so. Hell, it is even my duty to myself to bitch when I don't like something. My only OTHER recourse is to vote for/against the BOD to make change.
I tend to agree with Corp on many of these issues and that is not really any secret. Hardly could be called "backstabbing" as I have made this position known on this MB in the past.
I really have to ask you what you think the BOD is even there for? If not conceptually for the above reasons, why even have them?
Something better to offer? Other than the sycophant line of "sell and move on if you don't like it", I presume? Yes, I do and I have alluded to it in previous posts. ESTABLISH some BASIC expectations for the normal salary as a start. The guys signing licenses should be expected to sign x number of paying licenses each year [or other stipulated time period]. If they sign x+[n] paying licenses - BONUS TIME! The bigger the [n], the bigger the bonus.
Perhaps my example is too simplistic. Fine. But please recognize it for the CONCEPT then. Point is to develop a set of expectations or 'performance standards' and rate [give or not give bonuses] based on meeting or exceeding the standard. While this is not normally a difficult concept to grasp, it does seem to ellude some.
Personally, I don't think anyone should be getting bonuses for NOK or E or E/S actions unless they act to materially improve the revenues and profits for the company. In almost EVERY evaluation of these past actions, our management have FAILED to achieve that which otherwise 'should be' in that we got far less for these contracts than originally bargained for. Just saying it may be a 'watershed event' doesn't make it so until it ALL drops into the bottom line calculation.
Now, the guys that sign MOT to a paying 2g license - THAT gets to BONUS time quick. That is taking a failure and turning it to success. Over and above.
And yes, I did say that the time to leave was coming near. But I really do have to admire some of the "loyal longs" who seem to be able to blithely take all this without a dab of KY. Have a good day.
Nic,
Glad you own your own company. That takes some gumption, balls, talent, etc. The advantage is that YOU then have the ONLY say in how it is run, who runs it, how much the employees get, how much you get, etc. My guess is that if you do have employees, you have some kind of expectations for their productivity. You 'expect' they do their jobs and when they EXCEED your expectations, I'm sure you reward appropriately, not by juggling the books, but for something ABOVE those expectations.
If you don't, you probably wouldn't be in business much longer.
Nic, Revlis,
Good post my azz. The "trust the BOD, MGMT, etc." line is gettinmg old, old, old. We have already seen a 20+% dilution and no real profits to speak of yet.
Sorry, but Fagan gets a quarter mil + for keeping the books of a relatively SMALL company. To throw on a bonus is an insult until AFTER DEMONSTRATING SOMETHING BEYOND the call of duty.
RIP and Howard mucked it up and were rewarded going out the door.
Stupid me, I thought the BOD was supposed to be OUR inside agent keeping tabs on management for the good of the shareholders. Sadly, this only reveals my Naiveté.
Time is close to leave
What I would like to know is...
What is expected of these folks for just their regular salary? Is that spelled out anywhere? THAT, would go a long way with aligning with shareholder value.
You have to do what is expected to earn the salary...then that which is over and above the expected should be rewarded.
Most of what seems to be rewarded is that which should be included in the "expected" column. KISS. And if Fagan, or anyone else won't stay for their salary...let 'em go. Their are other CFOs and COOs and CEOs around that are just as good - or even better.
Very Cool.
But are we getting paid?
JP, I thot ASM was mid NOV
??
Zacked, 100 years from now, we will be well on our way to Star Trek with advances in Medical technology, communications, minituratization, etc.
Probably 250 years to 'beam me up, Scotty' though, but who knows and who will be around then anyway?
TS actually names NEOM in one of his latest blurbs [today]

L2V, doesn't NOK get TDD "free" by virtue of the 99 deal?
JP, I don't think we are all nay sayers. Some of us are just very surprised at this swop out of SAIC without any PR or any real reason noted. We never knew if this had any cost or revenue tied to it either.
Some of us are a tad frustrated that they did not announce the terms of the Virgin settlement and that someone has to go fishing for them via the 10Q, etc., and the terms are still vague on any amounts on a recurring basis. Some of us are also a tad nervous on the AirClick terms as well. While pleased that they [NEOM] DID announce that there would be revenues from that deal, we are still wondering about the terms - how much. Then we still have ScanBuy to deal with. Personally, I want this one to go thru court and get an actual verdict or decision. THAT really will solidify the patents.
Basically, many of us want some facts to consider, not TS ruminations of F100 deals or sketchy info on settlements, etc.
Not trying to bash, but some myopic ones will call me the 'subtle basher' and blindly chastise me and others when we ask questions or seek info. All we really want is some better communication from the company and more detailed facts. Just color me a "show me" kind of guy - especially when I have a little skin in the game.
Making plans to be in the Tampa area in mid Nov. assuming the next AGM will be held then. Hope to meet a few there.
Does anyone NOW wonder why Jim Cramer doesn't like the penny stocks?
Cramer's point also was that it is just too risky for him. He has probably seen too many penny flops in the past and it is just 'not for him'. Also, he is into 'best of breed' thinking. This stock is just not on his radar.
I know there is no revenue stream [yet!], but we do not even know the revenue model yet either. SOG thought it was "NEET.' I hope it is great, but it could be garbage or so back loaded that we wont see revenues for some time, or a host of other things, including nothing but settlement of the case. That was my only point. Sorry, I'm a show me guy on things like that. Same on Airclick. Since the company didn't say anything about revenues [except that there will be some], I want to know what they are exactly. And I get a tad nervous when they don't say what they are. Could be a dollar and that's it. I doubt that, but its not mega millions either.
