Cubs claim ex-Red Sox pitcher Drake Britton off waivers.

I think the Cubs would take him if they can get him for a discount. One more great starter and one solid closer is all they really need. I believe they're at around 100 Million a year budget now, so they could still pay big bucks for a big name starter. I know I'm dreaming.
Will Bud Selig give Pete Rose the "Presidential Pardon" on his last day (Sunday)as the Commissioner? I wouldn't be surprised. He has talked a couple of times in the past about letting Rose back in but then reversed his thoughts afterward. I think he wants to but that's just my opinion.
Let's hope some of the Met's and Cub's big wigs read this board. I know a long shot for sure. I still think they plan to trade Castro before Spring Training but which club will get him?
I think that would be a great trade for both teams too. I don't think Epstein would have went for Russell if they didn't intend to trade Castro in the future.
Will Castro be with the Cubs in 2015? I don't think so. I can see them trading him for another good pitcher while letting Addison Russell take over SS.
Go Cubs!
I would like to see a couple of more trades but I think they have as good of a shot as anybody right now. They will need to be firing on all 8 cylinders all season long. They need a solid closer too in my opinion.

Starlin Castro detained in alleged connection with shooting incident, per report.
What is it with these young players going back to the Dominican Republic and getting into trouble, getting hurt or even dying?

A's fans don't have much to look forward to in the next couple seasons.
Cubs and other teams are interested in Cole Hamels now.
Well, like I said, we'll see.
I agree because they have let me down since 1984 when I first started watching the Cubs, but now I truly feel the "winds of change" are finally here. Even the 100 year old stadium is changing as we speak. By the way, I use to hear that for many years about my New Orleans Saints too.
P.S. I would like to see one more big stick, good starter and a solid reliever added before Spring.
On an unrelated note:

We'll see.
I wouldn't be surprised to see the Cubs get rid of one or two starters to make room for another big name like Lester by March 1st. No matter what the big wigs say publicly I think they want to go all the way in 2015, as well as in 2016 and 2017.
Hmm, what are the chances of Scherzer going to the Cubs? I know probably slim and none but that would almost gaurantee a trip to the World Series if everyone is helthy and having a great season. Would the Cubs be crazy enough to spend even more for another great pitcher? I'm thinking something is in the works for another big name for the Cubs and Scherzer could be it?
In my opinion, I'd rather see Chapman (Reds) in the Closing role for the Cubs because at this point we need a closer rather another starter.
Andrew Heaney thanks Dodgers for memorable five-hour tenure:

I saw Pete Rose in a new commercial tonight. I don't know who the commercial was for because I caught the tail end and was in the other room and couldn't see it that well. Anyway, I thought it was good to see him back out there in the public eye.
Maybe he'll get a full-time shot soon.
It is hard to replace Kemp but maybe since the Dodgers spent all that money last year and didn't go into the World series they're trying to reduce their payroll a little.
You know Don Mattingly had been throwing back "Tums" worrying and watching Kemp and Puig everyday and hoping they don't get hurt. Puig has settled down a little bit, not going full speed towards the walls as much, while Kemp can get hurt in the strangest of ways.
Peterson didn't do as well as I would have liked in 2014 but now that he will have a full season he can get settled in and focus.
I know Kemp is a good player but I'm thinking a lot of clubs are worried about him being injury prone. The Dodgers are probably wanting to give Joc Peterson a solid year of playing anyway.
"Cubs beat Miami in the Word Series". I know The Marlins are a National League team like the Cubs and impossible but it's funny how both teams are shelling out big bucks all of a sudden for 2015
Wouldn't that be something? The owners are pouring out money like never before, so at this point it wouldn't surprise me if they dug even deeper to get more big names on the roster. They certainly seem to be going for it in 2015 and not two or three years down the road like they have for years and years now.
Now all we need is the hoverboards and flying cars. I was hoping they would do another Back to the Future in 2015 but I don't think they are. They could have based it on Marty's Son with an appearance or two from Fox Himself.

This is the guy I'd rather see in a Cubs uniform but who knows maybe both will be Cubbies in 2015? If so, and if the Cubs stay healthy, they might actually be deep in the playoffs or dare I say the World Series in 2015?
With Addison Russell, Kris Bryant, and Jorge Soler slated to be in the 2015 roster and even Baez, I think this will be a club that will be contenders for years to come. Rizzo needs to have another 2014 season and Baez needs a lot more work on his bat but he has the potential to be great if he can settle down like I said last season. Good news is they're working with him.

Susie, I suppose that's good news but I hope they have enough money to get another good starter and a closer. I would love to see the Red's Chapman in that closing role for the Cubs. I also would like to see the Cubs pick up another good hitter but alas, I think they spent all they're going to with Lester. The good news is they can trade Castro for another pitcher like Chapman.
"Reds may listen to Aroldis Chapman offers" What a great addition for the Cubs if they can land this deal. I say trade Castro for Chapman and a Minor Leaguer and it will be a win-win for both clubs.
On a side note, it looks like Lester is down to 2 clubs, Red Sox and Cubs.
Cubs get Montero from D-backs, so I guess it's official the Cubs are going to go for it in 2015. Now if they can get some more good pitching they certainly can go into the playoffs if the team is firing on all cylinders and healthy.
The only thing I can think is that the Yank's coaches know his potential and see something on video they think can help him. We'll see one year from now if the trade was a good one or not. Again, I just have a feeling they know something about his swing and they think they know how to fix it.
Ryan Dempster, 37, who did not pitch in 2014, officially announced his retirement as a player today, but he also has a new job as a special assistant to Cubs president Theo Epstein and general manager Jed Hoyer. Baseball is good to Demster. I hope he can talk Epstein out of the Lester trade now and go for 2 or 3 good pitchers, not one great pitcher who may get hurt and the Cubs lose all that money for one year.
I was hoping the Cubs would go after McCarthy but I guess they missed that train. Oh well.
Wow, that was some good news. I hope he can bring it together in 2015 and have a great season. I happen to have around 1k of his rookie cards. Here's to praying and believing.
Well, I know he's very good I mean that's obvious. The point was we can get 2 pitchers who know how to win games also for the same price as Lester. I think the Cubs will win games mainly because of their bats, not by pitching in the next 2 or 3 years. I'd rather see the Cubs get a good starter and a solid closer for the same price of a Lester. We all know the Cub's owners don't like to spend money and I don't want to see them put all their eggs in one ot two baskets. We still need a catcher and few other positions to take care of. Just my opinion and only an opinion.
Cubs bide their time while Lester mulls options
http://m.mlb.com/news/article/102963356/cubs-bide-their-time-while-jon-lester-mulls-options
Just forget Lester, Theo! We could have to decent pitchers for the price of Lester. Just one man's most humble opinion.
I wish Lester would just make up his mind so ball clubs can move on with trading pitchers. The Chicago Cubs need to move away from Lester and go after others in my opinion. Maybe I'm just ranting but I don't see the big deal about Lester. We need a pitcher who knows how to pitch the ball low in Wrigley like a Brandon McCarthy.
White Sox and Braves have been linked to Oakland righty Samardzija. I guess you can kiss off the 2015 season for the A's.
Now maybe Joc Pederson will get more playing time for the Dodgers.
I agree about Baez and pretty much in agreement about Castro but I still think there is still something the Cubs don't like about Castro, namely not giving it 100% when fielding and maybe batting too. Again, just my lowly opinion. If the Mets want to trade synderguarrd for Castro I think that would be a great deal for both clubs. Personally I would hope they traded Castro for Yelich but I'm just dreaming.
Baez could be a good hitter if he wasn't trying to blast off a shot over the wall every at bat. I hope they're working with him A LOT this Winter. One this is for sure there should be a lot of runs scored for the Cubs in 2015 with all new talent they have.
