Cannabis is a revenue generator — and therefore, a tax generator, adds Boris Jordan, executive chairman for U.S.-based Curaleaf. “One of the programs by the federal government right after the Great Depression was to focus on tax revenue generation,” Jordan tells CNBC. “They lifted prohibition on alcohol and therefore started to tax it — and it became a major revenue generator for both the federal and the local governments around the country.”

Sanofi warns Europe on Covid-19 vaccine
French pharma group has two candidates in pipeline

Sanofi would be able to deliver an effective vaccine within the next 18 months but warned that the bigger challenge would be ramping up production to meet potentially massive demand.
Sanofi Pasteur vaccine division employs about 10,000 people and has 12 factories globally. It has two Covid-19 vaccines in development: one of which is a traditional protein-based vaccine, and another known as an mRNA vaccine, which is a new type that promises to be faster to manufacture but remains as yet unproven.
Sanofi is also testing the efficacy of two of its drugs already approved for other uses against Covid-19, including the malaria drug hydroxychloroquine and Kevzara, which is usually used to treat rheumatoid arthritis.
On Friday, the company confirmed its goal for earnings per share to rise 5 per cent this year, after reporting higher first-quarter sales and profits buoyed by people stockpiling its drugs during the Covid-19 outbreak.
That first-quarter stockpiling boost will be “largely offset” by an expected slowdown in the second quarter.
Like-for-like revenue rose 6.6 per cent to €8.97bn in the quarter to March 30 driven by higher sales of over-the-counter medicines for pain and fever, and eczema drug Dupixent.
Net income rose 16.1 per cent to €2bn.

wonder will Spain and Italy legalise cannabis to help pacify their populations, and to help aid lockdown observation?
In Ireland, now with no pubs open, some are calling for off licenses to be closed because of booze fuelling a rise in domestic violence during lockdown... this violence is also rising in Europe.... (as a fella, in lockdown with his wife, said: "she seems a nice person.")

Here is a different take on cannabis....
Man experienced 12-hour erections after smoking MARIJUANA, new medical study finds in the first case of its kind
• Study appeared in this month's issue of Journal of Cannabis Research
• Experts write of case study of healthy, 32-year-old African American man
• The man went to emergency room twice complaining of long-lasting erections
• In one instance, the erection lasted 12 hours, according to researchers
• Man told doctors he frequently used cannabis, causing episodes of priapism

I think you, Kflawn, hit it on the head:
'prolly don't accept 100% accountability for the outcomes in their life.'
It's existentialism. We are free, and we are responsible for our own acts. We cannot blame anyone else: parents, family, school, community, religion or government. It is down to us.... and usually if you truly go for it, Life gives you success... because it is down to you, no one else.
When I was young I had a bleeding heart and was a socialist, but saw it created a lazyness, a lack of living on the edge to improve life, so in adulthood I realised it is down to me, no one else, and I became more conservative, taking responsibility for all my actions.
I am afraid that I too criticise the 'give-me' mentality.
Get up and get it, man, work for it.
Here in Europe there is too much dependency culture, too many with their hands out to government, looking for government to pay for their lives, and that kills innovation and destroys wealth creation (decimates creation in general: art, culture, finance, science, industry, farming.... and on and on)
Many of the 'give-me' people criticise me for investing in Canadian LPs, saying I am mad... maybe, but I accept my acts, and I accept the ups and downs of those acts... and of Aurora
Margaret Thatcher: 'The trouble with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money'?
Russian Soviets, Eastern Europe, Venezuela... all ran out of money...
Yes, steadykickin, this is excellent news.... a small company like this has just been given nearly 4% of the global THC supply... that is massive... imagine one company given 4% of the global alcohol supply ....
I am glad I am still holding, even through the recent months of downturn... future looks brighter...
That was a clever buy, Spartan.
Bernie Sanders has promised to legalise cannabis by executive order on his first day in office. In 2015 Justin Trudeau promised to legalise cannabis, and he won the Canadian general election. Bernie could also win for the same policy in 2020, and Bernie could very well be the next US president, and cannabis could be legalised in 2021 in the USA, where some 66% of the population want legalised adult recreational use, and some 90% want medical cannabis legalised. Also, Donald Trump may move to head Sanders off at the pass, by legalising or promising to legalise to attract the independent voters he, and Sanders, both need.... either way it's all to play for... Also, this just might be a recession beating stock in historical times... for if we all get home-isolated, like in China, weed is a fabulously pacifying way to past the time, yep, all to play for in the cannabis sector.
