What, did you watch gangs of new york on tv, and now youre an expert historian regarding the lincoln era???

Couldn't agree with you more. eom
Bush has spent 4 trillion dollars to kill a few thousand towel heads, and it's a lot more fucked up in the middle east now than before we went into iraq. He's never even caught osama.
That 4 trillion could have been used to subsidize a rapid renewable energy program, or even just knock off all gas taxes etc on the consumer. That would have kept oil prices much much lower.
Without the insane energy costs and their backlash on food prices, the economomy would be much stronger. Bush was also behind the idiots that allowed the housing market to run like crazy much higher than it ever should have, which is what really started the mess with the financials.

The redemption concerns are related to hedge funds/mutual funds. They don't let you take your money out.

You must be kidding. You aren't old enough to remember the Carter years. Some of the messes he inherited. Many of the issues he just wasn't savy enough or smart enough to deal with. But the damage was relatively easy and quick to repair. Even the big issues were really quite small compared to what we're facing today.
Bush has left a mess of the economy, middle east, and energy issues that will take years, if not decades, to fix.

Let's face it. Humans have fubar'ed this planet. Like the dinosaurs, we will soon outlive our usefulness here.

You know what really drives me crazy? I've seen moments of one day "fear", but no real panic selling taking over with a big capitulation day. The brief rallies we've seen over the past few months are typical snap back bear market rallies, but the move down has just been a grind. That opens the possibility for some real fear to finally set in, and capitulation to the 9,800 - 10,200 level. Not a high probability yet, but possible. I watch the S&P a lot more closely than the dow, and 1050 isn't out of the realm of possibility, which would put the dow around 10k.
All of that said, I think it's more likely we see an impact low of 10,8 to 10,6, then a rally back to the 12K area.

I may get my dow 11K a lot sooner than july. eom
What are Curly and Larry doing????
All I said was dow will hit 11,000 by the end of July. Makes no difference to me whether intraday or closing.
I still think we go lower, but we'll probably get a rally off the 11,000. It was a biggie, so I can't see it breaking right away here.

We're not even done with Friday yet, lol. eom
I don't think we'll see a meaningful rally until we see how earnings/guidance comes out. 2nd half economic recovery looking less and less likely.

EOQ on Monday. Short funds will hold through that, no reason to cover, and long funds probably dumping a lot of losers yesterday through Monday. While I think we'll have a snapback on monday to flush out a few shorts, there's always the potential for a real dump. 1250 s and p is the real key.
The interesting thing to me is tht the nas has been holding the s and p up. While the dow is below the march lows, the nas is 100 pts over, and s and p 20 over. If the nas plays catch up to the dow, then we have a real scenario for a "black" day in the next week or so. Light volume next week on july 4th holiday week may protect from that, however.

Hogs, I'm flat at the end of every day and only trade ES. The majority of my trades are less than 3 minutes in duration.

Yaaawwwwwn. Have you seen the Universal Studios Simpson's advert? Very annoying, and they may only show it in SoCal. Bart and Lisa saying repeatedly "are we there yet, are we there yet, are we there yet".
That's how I feel about my prediction several months ago of Dow 11K by end of July. 453 to go, 4 weeks to get there. Impact low might be 10,600.

Good call. Did a light bulb just go off in the market's head? Hey, oil at 130.00 a barrel isn't going to be good for the economy.
I am sticking by dow 11K by July 29th.

I agree with you. The airline industry needs a complete and total revamping, and this means the business model itself. I don't know what the answer is, but I do know that the current business models don't work.
Airline travel in this country had turned into a nightmare. It's a combination of post 9/11 issues, high fuel prices, and an outdated airline business model.
I used to travel to NY from LA all the time on business. It was no big deal. I could take a flight out of Burbank airport, 20 minutes from my house, arrive 45 minutes before the flight, valet park for 11.00 a day, and be in my hotel in NY 8 hours after I left my house. I could do it out of LAX but added an hour for time to LAX and parking. The last time I went to NY, last summer, on the return, I spent 3 hours on a runway after an hour to get through security at JFK, then we returned to the gate. 4 hours later we had a new plane. By the time I got home, it was 24 hours door to door. I can drive to the bay area now in less time than it takes to fly, and for about half the cost. And I find that just about every airline employee is rude, doesn't have a clue what customer service is, and act like it's my "priveledge" to be on their crappy airline.
A major overhaul is needed, and until someone figures out what that business model is, I'd stay away.

I liked ron paul telling bernanke to quit trying to control the economy and let capitalism take care of itself. He all but quoted thomas jefferson when he said "we're not letting the republic operate freely"
