There's a moving average study reprinted here that may be on incidental interest:

uh, augie, my chart was in linear scale. :)
I see a lot of parallel lines like that, especially on the shorter time frames - price seems to break to the other side of a line and switch to the next channel over. Hey, it's just a big pachinko game. <g>
Larry: well, so much for that channel I drew!
augie, another "interesting" line (also shown in magenta)is the one tha connect local price mins in May & July and the top of this month's gap up:
http://stockcharts.com/def/servlet/SC.web?c=$ndx,uu[r,a]daclyyay[pb50!b200][vc60][j19192742,y]&am...
Note that price is presently sitting on that line.
Just JMO, there appears to be a wedge on the NDX 60 min. that could break to the north:
http://stockcharts.com/def/servlet/SC.web?c=$ndx,uu[r,a]eaclyyay[pb50!b200][vc60][j19189278,y]&am...
Larry, a wider channel could be in play, JMO:
http://stockcharts.com/def/servlet/SC.web?c=$ndx,uu[r,a]eaclyyay[pb50!b200][vc60][j19189278,y]&am...
syl, agree about downside but wouln't you expect NDX to tag 1440 again (for a double top) before the fall becomes serious?
Edit: now all is fine.
My 15 minute charts looked fine when I opened them this morning. I edited one - when the screen refreshed after the upload most of yesterday's data was missing. My guess is that the data received from Stockcharts was "whole" yesterday, but now has a gap in it. Hopefully this gap will get filled quickly. <g>
max, I see that the 50% retrace of the recent move is around 1320, which is close to the 38% retrace off the 1103 low as well as Justa's line in the sand.
This spring I got a deal on a Dell PC that was good in every way except memory, only 128M. I decided to use it that way for a while just to see the limitations. It had trouble with stockcharts, editing & opening windows (sound familiar). Got an extra 512M and all the problems went away.
FWIW to you and others I found I got a good deal buying memory directly from crucial.com... this is Micron's outlet for memory sales. They are a few bucks cheaper than Fry's and other places, first time users can get another 5% off (using coupon code BBUSERGROUP), they currently have free shipping for orders over $40, and in some states you don't even pay tax. I have no connection to them.
So Max, maybe you can get one your lobsterman pals to help you with the lifting needed to get your PC upgraded <gg> - would be nice to see your charts.
max, here's what I have:
http://stockcharts.com/def/servlet/SC.web?c=$ndx,uu[g,a]dacayyay[pd20,2!c13!c50!b100!b200!f][vc60][i...
hey, did you ever buy that extra memory? It makes a big difference!
Here's another point of view:

Has the Bear Market Started?
"...it might be more appropriate to consider everything that has happened over the past 5 years or so to be a giant topping process and that the bear market actually lies in the future."
Building on his nation-building success in Afghanistan and Iraq, Bush has announced formation of a transition team for Cuba:
http://www.crosswalk.com/news/1224634.html
"Third, Bush said, his administration will establish a commission to "plan for the happy day when Castro's regime is no more and democracy comes to the island." He said Secretary of State Colin Powell and Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Mel Martinez will co-chair the commission."
" "They will draw upon experts within our government to plan for Cuba's transition from Stalinist rule to a free and open society; to identify ways to hasten the arrival of that day." "
Bullarky, to these eyes the top of the channel is shy of NDX 1410 (and dropping). A break above that would suggest something else is going on, but sometimes there are headfakes...
bullarkey, I'm sorry but I don't have a "presentable" daily chart right now. I did update the 15-min, which is still available here: msg# 10716
by the way, some folks have told me that I have too many lines on my charts <ggg> - but some of them are there just to explore possibilities (and not all of these are good ideas!).
It does look like (for the moment) the ndx is trying to establish a downchannel on the 15 min.
$32.77 would be in the vicinity of NDX 1310... if it gets that far wouldn't you think it would just go for the full retrace to late September lows @1302?
BTW, great calls!
Actually the top of that channel was pierced.
Today's gap up hit the top of the channel on the 15 min:
http://stockcharts.com/def/servlet/SC.web?c=$ndx,uu[r,a]gacayyay[d10][pf][vc60][iut!ub7!li10,10!lh5,...
LG, do you mark pivot points with a red X? If not, then I can't see the graph! <ggg> Seriously, I wish you the best in getting your charts posted - I know that dealing with computers can be frustrating. -hiker
GT, here's how I port the historical data to Excel:
1. Copy data
2. Paste data into Notepad, saving as *.txt file
3. Open *.txt file with Excel (picking fixed width option)
Justa, would you care to elaborate on what warning signs you're seeing?
Presidential IQ reference:

Does seem like we may make one more small push tomorrow toward the 50% retrace mark "1850".
To these eyes it looks like the NDX stopped at a secondary resistance line (l.blue), but the (slightly higher) primary falling resistance is still below the 50% level for the move from 1406, so it's a farther stretch:
http://stockcharts.com/def/servlet/SC.web?c=$ndx,uu[r,a]gacayyay[d10][pf][vc60][iut!ub7!li10,10!lh5,...
The COMP is also stopped at resistance, reaching 1850 would require breaking thru that. To these eyes things look ready to head south.

4. "Better start making stuff up for the State of the Union Address"

http://ask.yahoo.com/ask/20031001.html
Dear Yahoo!:
How many vacation days has George W. Bush taken to date as president? How does that compare with Clinton?
Vince
West Hollywood, California
Dear Vince:
While the president of the United States is never completely on vacation, most commanders-in-chief manage to enjoy a respite from the daily grind during their stay the White House. George W. Bush seems to have taken this to the extreme early in his tenure as president. A humorous, fake resume for Bush suggests that he set the record for most days on vacation by any president in U.S. history -- a bit of an exaggeration, but still cause for some teasing.
According to an August 2003 article in the Washington Post, President Bush has spent all or part of 166 days during his presidency at his Crawford, Texas, ranch or en route. Add the time spent at or en route to the presidential retreat of Camp David and at the Bush family estate in Kennebunkport, Maine, and Bush has taken 250 days off as of August 2003. That's 27% of his presidency spent on vacation. Although to be fair, much of this time is classified as a "working vacation."
Bush isn't the first president to get away from his work. George Bush Sr. took all or part of 543 vacation days at Camp David and in Kennebunkport. Ronald Reagan spent 335 days at or en route to his Santa Barbara, California, ranch during his eight years in office. Of recent presidents, Jimmy Carter took the least days off -- only 79 days, which he usually spent at his home in Georgia. That's less than three weeks a year, which is closer to the average American's paid time off of 13 days per year.
What about Clinton? As of December 1999, President Bill Clinton had spent only 152 days on holiday during his two terms, according to CBS News. A former staffer noted Clinton was such a workaholic that "it almost killed Clinton to take one-week vacations during August." In 2000, Clinton cut his summer vacation short to just three days, so he and his wife could concentrate on her Senate race and fundraising for Democrats. While we couldn't find the exact tally for Clinton's last year in office, it's reasonable to expect he didn't increase his vacation rate. And in barely three years in office, George W. Bush has already taken more vacation than Clinton did in seven years.
The 15-min. NDX appears to be in a downward channel whose bottom is presently around 1280 and change:

Re: Stand up and straighten out your pants. :)
Pants? I thought this thread was clothing optional!
aj, that makes sense - no kids in my household and we each have our own computers so it's easier to control what each computer sees. There seems to be more and more software these days that is basically insidious, inserting itself into toolbars, taking over as the default app in areas where I don't want it, installing spyware, etc. While some of this software has desirable uses, I also find it to have a high nusisance factor.
Re: Adaware
I've used the free version of Adaware for years and still do once in a while. But my system is relatively clean of spyware, data miners and the like and what I've found that the only place I get objectionable files of the kind that Adaware picks up is in the cookie folder. Since I started regularly deleting cookies that I don't recognize, I don't use Adaware very often.
OK, well I never know with stockcharts!
Here's a daily NDX chart that (I think) shows the features that aj & syl are referring to.
http://stockcharts.com/def/servlet/SC.web?c=$ndx,uu[r,a]dacayyay[pd20,2!c13!c50!b100!b200!f][vc60][i...
The light red solid and the blue dashed are my own lines, just ignore them.
You must be a stockcharts extra subscriber to see these, apologies to everyone else.
I would like to second Rich1's comments. The interchange here is instructive & instructive, without a lot of noise. Back to lurk mode. -hiker
Are you perhaps thinking of this (equal wt. S&P) ?

A NEW AND DIFFERENT EXCHANGE TRADED FUND (ETF)
On April 30, 2003 the new Rydex SP Equal Weight ETF (RSP) began trading. It is based on the S&P EWI (Equal Weighted Index), an index composed of the S&P 500 stocks but calculated in a way to give each stock an equal weighting.

Yes, I am Larry.
The truth finally comes out! <g>
Well, the text of the UL doesn't really say that's it totally false (like some of the things they debunk). Personally, I thought the story was cute.
Now all we need is an article that says that Fib series are based on specs for a line of Roman chariot models! <ggg>
Urban legends' comments on the horse - space shuttle article:

Personally I didn't find the msg to be too much but rather on the point. It's nice to see a thread where folks cooperate & constructively diasgree. It's seems difficult not to slip into personal attacks on the net but this thread manages to avoid that.
Well, I hope that wasn't so much positive for you that you delete my msg too! <ggg> If so, perhaps you should rename the thread "AJTJs thoughts - no syrup". <ggg>
Just touched the bottom of the channel defined by % deviation from 15dma:

That channel has held throughout the run since March.
