"The Barracuda FDE (full disc encryption) hard drive is the world's first 3.5-inch desktop PC drive with native encryption to prevent unauthorized access to data on lost or stolen hard drives or systems. Using AES encryption, a government-grade security protocol and the strongest that is commercially available, The Barracuda FDE hard drive delivers endpoint security for powered-down systems. Logging back on requires a pre-boot user password that can be buttressed with other layers of authentication such as smart cards and biometrics."

Wave to Demonstrate How Applications for Trusted Platform Modules will be an Integral Part of the Enterprise IT Roadmap
Tuesday September 4, 10:26 am ET
Network World's IT Roadmap Conference Demonstrations will Show How Wave's Software Can Harness Industry Standard Security Chips for Strong Authentication, Network Access Control and Data Protection
LEE, Mass. & DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Wave Systems Corp. (NASDAQ: WAVX; www.wave.com) today announced it will be conducting demonstrations using its EMBASSY® software to manage security functions for the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) security chips found on many enterprise-class desktop and notebook PCs shipping today. Organizations can immediately address the critical problems of data protection, strong authentication and threats to their existing Network Access Control solutions using Wave's software in conjunction with the TPM.
"Today you'll find TPM technology on a growing number of PCs within any given organization--and on the PCs of many of that organization's customers, vendors and suppliers. As trusted platforms become commercially available, we believe that putting them to work should be a critical component of any forward-thinking organization's IT roadmap," said Brian Berger, executive vice president of marketing and sales for Wave. "We're looking forward to educating the decision makers who visit our booth on how they can use the embedded security they already have to address some of the most critical security problems facing their organization today."
The Trusted Platform Module chip is a specialized microcontroller that generates keys to encrypt the contents of a hard drive and can store sensitive data such as passwords and security keys. Analysts estimate that tens of millions of PCs with embedded TPMs have shipped through 2007. Wave has designed its security applications to work with commercially available TPMs.
The Network World IT Roadmap Dallas Conference & Expo 2007 takes place Thursday, September 6 at the Adam's Mark Hotel in Dallas, Texas. Visit Wave Systems in booth #407.

Alea, weby, awk........I followed the AB discussion and let me add something over here.
It´s not about who´s right or wrong and not about the past or the future, it´s about STRONG characters trying to make their opinions clear. While I think all those characters are not that far away from each other, I´m sure that while arguing most forget to read the posts carefully.
Dependent on education and preferences every CEO has his Pros and Cons. SKS has made too optimistic statements in the past about economy progress of Wave, but he´s learned a lot from the past. I guess he´s coming from the technical side and I´m happy that he´s looking at the BIG picture. The CEO HAS to be supported by his officers like LA, Feeney and Brian Berger in their different areas! I´m sure SKS could have developed a niche where Wave would have become BE much earlier, but thats not why we all are around here. He tries to make Wave the LEADER in Trusted Computing software!
NOW it´s time to see if he´s successfull, so I keep looking forward and not backwards....
Good to see your board on topic again Alea and thanx for invitation!
Have a good day all

I´m out of posts for this day, nite all!

Barge.....only Wave provides Server and Client sided features! Absolutely right!!!!!
The HP7700 series contain an IFX TPM and Symantec software. It would be great when the new HP 7700 series would have a BRCM chip.
I guess at least the AntiVirus software can be changed without hurting the VPro environment.
BR

Countryboy.......thanx for this!Great DD, I guess this says all about the timeframe...
Kay estimates that most companies are now hitting the 20 percent mark and with the addition of vPro technology in the Centrino platform, he suspects that more companies will now begin deploying the full range of vPro features.
BR

Barge, Scorpio....sure there are things (mostly hard- and firmware), much more difficult than I wrote in my previous post (it was just a thought on the BEGINNING of the CAPABILITY), but I´m sure McAfee is NOT required to enable Vpro, same for ETS. All these components fit together to establish to most comprehensive security solution the world has ever seen...

The price!LOL, sorry couldn´t resist...
BR
ISPRO
X-Point.......I know revenues are in our position a VERY important factor, but for me it´s more important to see technology leader like Intel sticking to our software in the most important security arena of the future!
Perhaps we have to look back a few years and search for the beginning of the capability to implement environments like iAMT3.0.
For me the first step was the introduction of the ATX cases and power supplies. From this moment on the power on/off didn´t cut the power supply, it had a LOGIC and sends commands. The machine had a permanent power supply, which resulted in the invention (feature) of "WakeUpOnLan". While these features were first developed to access data on sleeping or hibernating machines, the IT industry realised, that this was an important innovation, to maintain and upgrade machines, while the person on the machine is asleep. So this is ONE part of the new security paradigm to have control over machines while they are NOT in use!
Now we have to look on several different machine conditions and where the security threat is probable and dangerous.
The TPM can be accessed and used in all states of the machine from different developers.
1. Offline/Shut down
This is the state of the machine where nearby NOTHING can happen from outside.
2. Hibernate
Similar to 1, since both are in preboot status
3. Boot sequence
This is a status where BIOS manufacturer, Wave/STX preboot, HP preboot protection.....
THIS is all the INTEL/Symantec PR was about. They WANT to develop security BEFORE the OS boots, similar to the Wave/FDE.2 solution, just a bit more complex!LOL
4. Running machine
This is the status where WAVEs software is used by Intel and for good reason. The machine could be attacked from all sides, you´ll need a bullet proof security system! While running, the security solution has to adress MANY different and very complex issues. It wouldn´t be easy to pull a rabbit out of your hat and say "hey, now lets change our TPM management software provider".
The MOST important thing of todays PR IS that Wave CANNOT be subsumed by ANYBODY in this stage of the market, NOBODY can do it!
There will be many companies dancing AROUND, but they´ll NOT be invited to the TPM party!LOL
Revenues will follow, be sure, but first we have to adress the hole market and make Wave undefeatable.....

BR

Cosign...don´t think so. IMO gov purchases will sure be influenced by FDE.2 decisions. Those who offer hardware based encryption might be the winners in the long run...
BR
ISPRO
Doma...normally the tech of the acquired company disappears, but since Acer has no real tech on the TPM side, except offering the IFX TPM drivers on their download section, I hope this acquisition leads us to the new OEM. GTW uses STM (NTRU)and a few BRCM (NTRU/IFX) TPM...

Monymgr....absolutely correct! Software encryption keys are normally stored on the disc, smartcard, token, usb. Didn´t know that SafeBoot stores the key in the BIOS, since they´d have to customize their software to different BIOS versions and manufacturers. Anyway the BIOS is not the best place to store a key, same for the HDD...
BR
ISPRO
NewWave...you got me wrong re: preboot. In this stage the Safeboot software doesn´t know anything. It´s a HP BIOS feature, which exists since months.
The password is set in the BIOS and stored in the TPM or the BIOS. NOTHING with Safeboot. IMO the encryption password of Safeboot is stored in the TPM, NOT the preboot, since SafeBoot has no preboot authentication as far I know, BICBW..
BR
ISPRO
Ramsey.....I meant SONY and I wouldn´t qualify this as a deal. It´s a TryandBuy preinstall. I don´t know what is installed on the current HP notes, since I haven´t bought one after the Safeboot thingy. So I´ll have to wait for a customer, who orders a HP note...
BR
ISPRO
Ramsey....I guess it´s a TRYandBuy bundling arrangement, same as with Sony and Utimaco.
