This guy's suggestion seems to make sense, but I'm curious about what people who are more familiar with the issue think of it.
An excerpt. . .
The idea is to assemble a force of at least 20 million American citizens who are trained and licensed to carry concealed weapons, have received and successfully completed very high-level training in the safe use of these weapons (safe for everyone but the crooks, of course), have passed very thorough background checks, and upon completion of all this, are able to carry their weapons pretty much everywhere at all times.

That's what I do. Since only devices that are not present are shown, they're the ones I want to get rid of. The devices your system is using will not appear in the "Not Present" list.

This looks like classic "Ghost" behaviour.
Ghosts are devices that are no longer available, but still show up in Device Manager.
Device Cleanup Tool is a tiny (Portable) utility that removes ghosts.
Device Cleanup Tool
I've seen systems with hundreds of ghosts. It's nice to get rid of them all at once. Otherwise, one would need to use Windows Device Manager to delete them one at a time.
Cheers, PW.
P.S. To check your system for ghosts, you must enable the viewing of devices that are not present. Doing this takes a couple of steps. . .
Enable viewing by setting the environment variable:
SET DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES=1
In Device Manager, click View and select "Show Hidden Devices"
P.P.S. Two ways of setting Environment variables. . .
Open a Command Prompt window using Run as Administrator and type the command SET DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES=1 will set the variable and it will remain until your system is shut down.
To set it permanently, use
Control Panel, System, Advanced system settings, Advanced tab.
Click "Environment Variables..." button (near the bottom)
Under System variables, click the "New..." button.
In the "Variable name:" box, enter DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES
In the "Variable value:" box, enter 1
Click "OK" buttons to close the windows.

I have one small quibble with Trump's Immigration plan. . .
He mentioned sending people who are in his country illegally back home. That's a good idea, but it needs one small refinement: Don't just deliver them to the other side of the border -- drop them off on the far side of their home country. This has a couple of benefits: it's a much longer walk to re-enter, and during this journey, their home country will experience their lawlessness, thus elevating the likelihood that local authorities will deal with them.

Copied from the Joke Thread on SI. . .
A U.S. Navy destroyer stops four Mexicans rowing towards Texas.
The Captain gets on the megaphone and shouts, “Ahoy, small craft. Where are you headed?”
One of the Mexicans puts down his oar, stands up, and shouts, “Gringo, we are invading the United States of America to reclaim the territory taken by the USA during the 1800's.”
The entire crew on the destroyer doubles over in laughter. The Captain finally catches his breath, gets back on the megaphone and asks, “Just the four of you?”
The same Mexican stands up again and shouts, “No senor, we are the last four. The other 21 million are already there.”

My favourite anecdote. . .
The guy was making some "adjustments" to his finances, and decided to give his wife a considerable share of his money. When he came into the room, she was busy clipping store discount coupons from the newspaper. Currently, we've been hearing quite a bit about "Income Inequality" and how bad it is. What we never hear is that reductions in "Income Equality" always bring reductions in "Overall Income" too. Apparently, those who are able to generate the most wealth become less motivated when the fruits of their efforts fail to elevate them above their less capable contemporaries.

Just to be accurate, that was a map of South America
You spoiled all the fun!
I think that was the whole point of the image. Many of the people who are outraged by Cecil's death are so profoundly clueless that they wouldn't know a map of Africa from a map of South America.
I assumed that most participants on this thread have learned sufficient geography to recognize maps of Africa and South America and would enjoy a chuckle at the expense of the uninformed "Fans of Cecil."

P.S. Gotta run. I'm there's an excellent recital by the Vienna Boys Choir from Australia on the TV and I'd like to record it.
P.P.S. We've had some severe thunderstorms overnight. Kinda reminds me of when I was a youth we'd see a lightening strike and begin to count the seconds. For every five, the strike was about a mile away.
Now, I still count seconds, but after the thunder. When a particularly loud clap of thunder occurs, I often say "That was loud -- I wonder if there's lightening too!" Rarely do I get to count five seconds before someone "Shares" the fact that lightening precedes all thunder. Often, I don't get past one! What's amazing is how frequently I catch the same people -- they never learn that I'm just having fun.
Putting Windows 10 on an XP machine. . .
I don't see a problem doing this since I'm using an old XP machine.
The challenge is Activation.
Microsoft has offered a free copy of Windows 10 for anyone currently using Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1, but are overlooking people using XP and Vista.
But there may be a "back door?"
I installed July 29 Windows 10 while using a Technical Preview copy of Windows 10, build 10130. To my surprise, my new system was activated permanently. During the installation, I wasn't asked for a Product Key. The installer took what it needed from my WinTen 10130!
Since Technical Preview versions of Windows 10 are still available, one could download a copy, install it, and then use it to initiate the installation of the "REAL" Windows 10 system and get an activated Windows 10.
Note: This is NOT supposed to work, but it did for me -- and I don't know why.
Why I downloaded an .ISO file. . .
.ISO files can be burned to a DVD. This gives you a Windows 10 DVD just like you'd get if you bought a boxed package of software.
However, Windows 10 (And this includes the Technical Preview versions too) supports mounting .ISO files. Right-click on the file and select MOUNT. The file will then appear in Explorer as another drive on your system.
After you do this, you can use Explorer to search the .ISO and execute the Setup.EXE program easily. When you're done with it, Right-Click on the drive created by the .ISO and select EJECT to remove it. (Just the virtual drive is removed, not the .ISO file.)
If I want to install Windows from a USB Flash device, I can easily make one. I simply create a Primary partition, set it as Active, install the boot code, and copy the contents of the .ISO file. (Many utilities are available to automate this.)
In my opinion, it's far easier to make a Flash drive from an .ISO file than it is to make an .ISO file from a Flash drive, so I download the hard part and plan to do the easy part myself.
Cheers, PW.
P.S.
For those who do NOT have a system with built-in support for mounting an .ISO file, a small utility, Virtual Clone Drive, is available. Get it here. . .
Virtual Clone Drive
(Or you can simply burn a DVD!)
If you wish to be certain that you get Windows 10, you could download the installation file but not run it until later.
To do this, visit this site and select the downloading tool for the version of Windows 10 you want.
Download tool(s)
When you execute the Download Tool, you'll be asked what you want to do: Upgrade this PC now, or Create Installation Media For Another PC.
You'll want to select Create Installation Media For Another PC.
Next, you'll be asked to select Language, Edition, and Architecture.
And finally, you'll need to pick between creating a USB Flash Drive or an ISO File.
Once the process begins, the Download Tool window will display the progress. Since the download is between 2 and 3 gigabytes, it could take a while.
When the download is completed, save the file. You'll no longer need the Download Tool.
Cheers, PW.
P.S. For anyone with more than one computer to upgrade, selecting Create Installation Media For Another PC will enable them to download the file only once and use it for all their systems.
P.P.S. If anyone is curious, I selected U.S. English, Windows 10 Pro, 32-Bit, for Language, Edition, and Architecture. For Media, I chose to Create .ISO File.

There's a job opening, and the position must be filled. The hiring decision is yours. What do you do?
Perhaps a good first step would be to define what the job entails. Likely, it will require an assortment of diverse skills, personality traits, and alignment of personal goals with those of your organization. You'll need to prioritize: What's critically important, essential, nice to have, or "icing on the cake?"
Maybe it would be a good idea to get the word out so that anyone interested in taking the job would learn about it and apply. With luck, you'll get quite a few applicants, and probably too many. You'll need to sift through them to eliminate those obviously unqualified. Your goal will be to create a list of manageable size.
Some things to consider: Who has confronted similar challenges and emerged successful? Who has the shown the necessary flexibility confronting unforeseen circumstances and has made sound decisions that ultimately proved beneficial? Who has the vision needed to guide others toward desirable outcomes and disaster avoidance?
Now comes the tricky part -- determining who would do the job well versus who has mastered the art of getting hired. We all know that doing the job is more important than getting the job, but to make a wise hiring decision, we must force ourselves to overcome our inclination to hire the superb salesman when we're looking for a manager. The last thing we want to do is to base our hiring on the outcome of a popularity contest.
Most of us never face this challenge at work. We're more often on the applicants' side of the desk than the interviewer. Seeing the situation from the opposite perspective is unfamiliar territory. But just because it's seldom needed doesn't make it a useless skill. In fact, when it's needed, it's profoundly important.
And it's needed at election time.
In reality, voting boils down to individuals expressing their opinion about who to hire for an important job. The candidate chosen will have a huge impact on everyone.
Unfortunately, many people treat their selections from a lunch menu or deciding what film to watch far more seriously than they consider their choices at the polls. It's no wonder we make such poor choices.
But to be fair, for most people, they must pick from a limited and unappealing list of candidates. I know I've "held my nose while voting" more than I'd like. If confronted by a ballot with only two names, Trump and Clinton, I'd have no hesitation in making my selection.
